((The last part of the body-swapping saga!))

Midnight came and went, and with it, the spell that had caused so much mischief the day before. Sometime before dawn, Cosmo crept back into his master's bedroom, daring the wrath of his humans to crawl up onto the bed and lie across their feet, deeply relieved in his own doggie way that all was right once again. But it wasn't for another few hours that any sign of wakefulness made itself known, not until the dawn light began to stream in through the windows to warm two faces side by side on the pillow.

Sometime in the middle of the night, it seemed that Vicki had turned to face Jon, but whether that had happened before or after midnight, it was hard to say. They had remained close all night, and Jon had only been half aware of Cosmo's return to his master's bedroom when the first ray of morning slanted through the windows setting the room aglow. His eyes were slow to open, still heavy with sleep, the events of the previous day nearly forgotten in his muddled, sleepy mind.

The strain of the day before had been more on Vicki's body than Vicki's mind, keeping her more resistant to the insistence of the sun that she wake up and face the new day as herself. But she did stir, nestling a little closer in her sleep to Jon, earning herself a small whine of protest from Cosmo as the movement shifted him off her feet.

There was something comforting about waking up every morning to find the one you loved resting peacefully beside you, looking content and happy as beautiful as the first day you'd met. Jon had often thought that he'd only find her more beautiful as they grew old together, falling deeper in love with her with each passing day. So far, he'd been right. He had no regrets where Vicki was concerned, and as his eyes opened that morning, it was with a smile on his face to find himself looking on the face of his lovely wife out of his own eyes. He laid there quietly watching, not wanting to wake her or disrupt the quiet of the moment. Only when he could restrain himself no longer, did he reach over to brush a thumb against her cheek in a featherlight touch, needing to make sure she was really real and really there beside him.

She was beginning to surface as he watched her, the light touch against her cheek enough to draw her sleepily out of her slumber. Slowly, her own blue eyes opened, and she found herself looking into the eyes she had missed so much all day yesterday. A lazy smile curved her lips as she reached up to catch his hand, drawing his palm to her lips for a gentle kiss. "Hey, you. Looking handsome."

Now that they were properly themselves again, all the weirdness was gone, and he enjoyed the feel of her lips against his palm, just as he always had. They were her lips again, after all, the lips of the woman he loved. "Morning, beautiful," he told her quietly, blue eyes warm with fond affection.

She lounged there, basking in his gaze, deeply delighted to be seeing him from inside her own body once again. Until a dreadful thought occurred to her, and her eyes widened with sudden concern. "The baby!" With a startling turn of speed, given how ungainly he had been in her body yesterday, she sat bolt upright, throwing the covers back as she looked down at her rounded belly. "Aww, I missed you!" Hugging her own belly for a moment, she grinned as she felt their daughter stretching out, falling onto her back to roll over to Jon. Her hands curved to his cheeks as she drew him close for a very good morning kiss. "Missed you, too."

He chuckled - thankfully, in his own masculine tone - at her reaction to waking up in her own body, as if the baby might have disappeared into thin air overnight. "What did you think happened?" he asked, eyes dancing with amusement. "Think I gave birth in the middle of the night and forgot to tell you?" He slid his arms around her as she drew him close, having wanted nothing more but to hold her ever since they'd awoken in the wrong bodies nearly twenty-four hours before. "I missed you, too," he said drawing her close for a proper good morning greeting in the form of a kiss.

Her own laugh echoed his - her laugh, from her mouth - as he kissed her, appreciating the wrap of his arms around her so much more than she had in the past few months. It really was amazing the way he could make her feel so safe, so wanted, with just an embrace. "There was an outside chance you'd still be the pregnant one."

He chuckled and rolled his eyes. "That's all I need. To be the first pregnant man on Rhy'Din." He paused a moment in thought as he realized there might have been one already. It was Rhy'Din, after all, but it didn't really matter. "Do you know what today is?" he asked, with a smile and the touch of a kiss to the tip of her button nose.

"Um ....the fifth of February?" she hazarded a guess, drawing her fingers down over his back as her lips brushed his once more, over and again. It was almost as though she was making up for all the lost kisses yesterday. "I missed the way you smell. I prefer your smell to mine. I'm too ....fruity."

He smiled, understanding how she felt. It wasn't the same snuggling with himself, when he really wanted to be snuggling with her. "This is going to sound corny as hell, but it's the first day of the rest of our lives," he told her, kissing her back, once, twice, thrice.

She burst out laughing, sabotaging the kisses with her mirth at his wonderfully corny line, snickering wildly with amusement. "Oh, love, you do have the worst timing sometimes," she giggled, brushing the pad of her thumb over his lips lovingly. "Want some butter to go with that corn, or should I let you get it all out of your system?"

"Nothing wrong with a little corn every now and then," he replied with a cheesy grin, which only grew wider with her laughter. "I just mean that I love you and that we have the rest of our lives together. Is that too corny, Mrs. Granger?" he asked, nuzzling against her neck to leave a trail of slow, soft kisses.

She shuddered happily at the familiar trail of his lips over that particular spot, laughing a little more at the realization that Jon now knew exactly what he was doing to her when he did that. "Is there such a thing as too corny when it comes to you?" she murmured against his ear, drawing her fingers down over his arm as he teased her with those kisses.

"You tell me," he said as his lips continued to trail kisses against her neck and below her ear, his breath warm against her flesh. The hell with everyone and everything else. Today was going to be for them, and he planned on making the most of it, starting with showing his wife in no uncertain terms just how much he loved her.

"Jon ..." It was more of a moan than a whine, her voice thick with smiling desire as he relentlessly teased her, lighting that warm glow inside until it began to burn, drawing a breathless gasp from her lips as her own hands began to wander over him. "If I were the suspicious type, I'd think you were taking advantage of yesterday here."

Jon smirked, a mischievously guilty expression on his face. "Who me" The only thing I want to take advantage of is you," he added with a low growl against her neck. Cosmo poked his head up at the growl and echoed it with one of his own, tilting his head curiously at his silly master and mistress.

The echoing growl brought a louder laugh to her lips as Vicki finally placed what the weight on the end of the bed was. And as much as she liked the idea of being taken advantage of, she needed to make use of the facilities before Jon got too far. So, unfortunately for Jon, Cosmo was in the perfect place, and it was time to show her husband their dog's newest trick. "Cosmo, smooch!" With an exited bark, Cosmo leapt up and pounced on his master, proceeding to cover him in doggie kisses and exuberant licks while Vicki scrambled out of the bed, laughing uproariously.

Startled, Jon howled in surprise loud enough to wake the dead as he was pounced and knocked onto his back by the dog, who was more than eager to show his master how happy he was to have things back to normal. He laughed as the dog covered him in canine kisses, even as he tried to push him away. "All right, all right. I love you, too!" he cried, laughing happily as Vicki scrambled away. Payback was a bitch and she was going to get hers one of these days.

Tail wagging excitedly, Cosmo was the perfect cover for Vicki to get into the bathroom and get comfortable, the chaos on the bed lasting long enough for her to do what was needed and get back into the bedroom before the collie was deposited on the floor. She bent to rub the dog's head as he came to her for praise. "Such a good boy, well done! But Cosmo ....bed." She got a bark in return, and the collie charged across the room to throw himself down obediently on his own bed, tongue lolling happily.

Jon groaned as he drew a hand across his face to wipe off the doggie drool. "Nothing like doggie breath first thing in the morning," he grumbled, without any anger in his voice. In fact, if anything, he looked amused. "Now, where were we?" he asked, eying his wife with a grin, more than ready to make up for the lost day, even if it only meant spending a quiet day together. "I am yours for the day, Mrs. Granger. Whatever you want to do, let's do it."

"Hmm, what to do ..." Smiling teasingly, Vicki moved to perch on the edge of the bed beside him. She was surprised to find that she had missed all the little aches that came with being pregnant, not finding anything to complain about in them this morning. Her fingertip trailed down his chest, drumming thoughtfully against his hip. "D'you know, I think you should finish what I started yesterday."

"Oh, I see. Now that you're back in your own skin, you want to have your way with me. Is that it?" he asked, with a smirk. His body seemed to remember the frustrations of the previous day, even if it had been Vicki who'd been occupying his body at the time. "What exactly would you like me to do, my dear wife?" he asked, his body reacting to her touch, no matter how innocent it might be.

"Ooh, I think rut me like an animal covers it." There was that familiar grin lighting up her face as her red hair fell forward, marking her lean down to cover his lips with her own. One thing that would never change was Vicki's rather unique way of expressing herself; Jon had never been spared that blunt way of speaking, and never would be.

Not that he minded. One of these things he liked best about her was her blunt honesty. He never had to worry about Vicki lying to him, manipulating him, or being less than honest. And in his profession, honesty was something rare and to be cherished. Jon smiled up at her as she leaned down to meet his lips, arms sliding around her to draw her close, intending to finish what they had started the day before, what they'd been afraid to finish. Now that they were themselves again and all was right with their little world again, neither held back, giving in to the passion and love that burned between them and had nearly from the first moment they'd met. Theirs was a match made in heaven, and no matter what happened, nothing was going to tear them apart.

((This has been an insane amount of fun. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did!))
