A message arrives early Saturday morning via courier to Maple Grove, which reads as follows:

Dear Uncle,

Vicki and I have eloped to Cornwall. We're very much in love and very happy. Please let the family know and tell them we're sorry, but we just couldn't wait any longer. Will be home soon. Much love to all.

Your devoted nephew, Jonathan

The laugh that echoed through Maple Grove when Humphrey Granger read the hastily sent missive was loud and unabashed, a true declaration of his happiness at the news that his grand-nephew had taken his life well and truly in both hands. It was a shame, perhaps, that they'd been denied the big white wedding the pair had been threatening each other with for months, but an elopement suited Jon and his bright redhead far better.

Secure in the knowledge that he was an old man and no one in the family would dare tempt his ire by reacting badly to the news he now had to disseminate among them, Old Man Granger cancelled his appointments for the morning and set to the task of having Jon's telegram copied, while he himself wrote to the many younger Grangers who were close to Jon. The copied telegram was enclosed in each short note, and each were couriered through the city to the appropriate recipients, not least of which was Helena.

At least now we know why he's late home from filming, yes? Do try not to be upset about it, children - if he dithered much longer, she'd be my age before they tied the knot!
