Rhae

There was a time in the small of the afternoon where Rhae woke with a start. An arm wrapped over her face in a defensive manner and the other still wrapped tightly around Phinn. He was still there next to her and she took much solace in that fact. Nothing had come to snatch him away from her, the nightmare had shaken her so much that she had to check to see if he was still breathing. As soon as she was sure that he was she got up to immediately get dressed. As she slid out of the bed she pressed a kiss to Phinn's temple and was extra careful not to wake him. Heading into the bathroom to pull on that dress and sweater, she quickly splashed some cool water on her face. The state of the bathroom made her pale skin crawl for just a moment before she peeked out to check on him one more time. Slipping into her sneakers and digging around in her purse Rhae produced a pen and a blank business card from the beaded bag. She wrote in perfectly slanted script across the back.

"Running out to get a few things, I'll be back before you know it."

Rhae didn't sign the note card, instead she pressed a kiss to it and set it down on the pillow beside him. Cloak wrapped around herself and with a few of her long strides she was to the door and slipping out. It would have been a long walk to the Grove, but instead of walking she figured her bruise was cleared up enough by now to allow her to run. Down the stairs she jogged, checking no one was around she made her way down the street and to the inn before breaking into her brisk run.

It was nice to run without anyone following her. She had time to sit and think with her thoughts. Time to contemplate all the things that had gone on in the past few weeks, the good things, the horrible things, and the things she had once considered impossible. As she approached Maple Grove she came to a stop jogging in place before she ran up to the house. Slipping inside to avoid Gramps she peeked around every corner and ran up to Kaylee's room hoping the woman was there. A frown as she realized that Kay wasn't there. She was probably out and about with the boyfriend. Rhae hadn't barely spoken to the girl and wondered who she was dating. What a horrid friend she was! Girlfriends were supposed to know who their friends were dating. There would be plenty of time to ask her all of these questions soon she hoped. She could have asked Correy"But that would have ended in the entire family knowing about her exploits if he got pissed at her. A smile as she thought about Correy, and Lola, and of course the rest of the family. She missed them. And would have to make a point to show herself more during the day.

Rhae quickly changed and tossed her dirty clothes in the hamper. If Correy figured out she was in the same clothes from the night before there would be too many walk of shame jokes than could be mentioned. A few outfits were shoved into a duffle bag and she tossed some of her bath things into the bag. Making her bed neatly she turned and made Kaylee's too just so everything was nice. A smile as she slung the duffle over her shoulder and trotted down the stairs. When Gramps called out to her she smiled. "Don't worry. Joe the gardener is going to give me a ride to the Marketplace. I need girlie stuff.? This apparently was enough to make sure the man didn't ask any questions, just waved her away and yelled for her to be home before nightfall, or at least to check in.

Walking back out of the Grove she ran all the way to the marketplace and slipped into the general store. A bottle of bleach, some toilet paper, men's soap, a couple of towels, and an armful of assorted other goods were picked out. As a woman chatted up the man at the counter Rhae registered that this could be her very first act of anything unsavory. The woman was trying to show the young clerk a tattoo on her shoulder and was clearly distracting him to no end. The young girl used the distraction as a sign that she should slip right out through the shops side door. Hand raised to hold the shop bell, unhooking the clapper from inside of it with slender fingers she opened the door, with no sound. A smile and the clapper was slipped into her top. There was one more glance to make sure the clerk was still distracted and out she darted. In no time the young woman was sauntering out with an arm load of stuff. A brown paper sack picked up from beside the back door. It was quickly over turned, dumping the old newspapers it had been holding, she dropped all the items into the large brown paper sack and walked as if she had just paid for everything. She stopped to peek into windows of other shops and soon endlessly long legs were carrying her back to the loft. Right up the stairs and through the door, she slammed it behind her and breathed heavily. Peeking out the window she spotted no guards following her. Hell no one had even given her a sideways glance as she walked back to the apartment. She was looking the whole way too. It wasn't realized by Rhae that she had an innocent face and that people wouldn't expect that from her. Rhae dropped her duffle next to the chase lounge and then the brown bag was placed next to the duffle.

Pulling a book from the bag, she opened the tattered curtains and dropped the novel on the chase. Leaning she turned the orchid plant a quarter turn and smiled brushing fingers against the petals. That bag was lifted once more and she brought it into the bathroom. While Phinn slept Rhae cleaned, scrubbing first the shower and then every other surface in the room. After a few hours Rhae had gotten the bathroom to look like a place she would actually bath in. The towels were hung on the rack, shower items place into the shower on the shelves cut into the wall. Toilet paper slipped onto the holder. She was smiling happily to herself as she looked it over. The bathroom things in the shower had been the ones she had procured for Phinn. Hopefully Amber would appreciate the fact that Rhae had not only shown Phinn where the shower was in his flat, but had provided him with lightly scented soap and shampoo. Now it was entirely up to Phinn if he took a shower or not, Rhae wasn't the type to chase a man around to shove him in the shower. Plus she was pretty sure he could easily out maneuver her, even if she had the one up of much longer legs.

Back into the other room of the loft she walked to the window and pulled her duffle off the chase and dropped it on the floor. She had come to sit in the chase after all, she still firmly believed that flowers needed a decent amount of sun. Rhae was in running shorts, sneakers and a tank top. Looking more like she had just gotten out of the gym than someone who had just robbed a general store. The calm she displayed added to this fa?ade, Rhae didn't feel sorry for what she had done. How many times had people over paid for badly made goods because the were in need of them. How many pockets were lined with gold pried from the hands of those less fortunate. Her new outlook was clear in her mind that she thought they had it coming.

The wisp of a woman draped herself in the chair and let the sun warm her slightly, outside the cold went rushing on but the girl enjoyed the rays no less. She read from her novel for the rest of the afternoon, stopping only to steal a glance at Phinn, making sure he was alright. He had been through so much this morning, she couldn't have even dreamed of waking him. It didn't help that he made some of the most adorable faces in his sleep.
