((This posting was done shortly after I....stepped down....as Forum Supervisor of the FFGF on AOL))

Looking over the main room from the top of the staircase, his eyes traveled casually over the few patrons in the Inn at this early hour. He wondered how many were still here after sleeping off last nights indulgences. He took a deep breath, he could smell the ale, the food, the fire, the patrons, the Inn. He could feel the Inn. It had become part of him....and to some extent he had become part of it. But it was time to go.

Stepping back into his room he took a quick glance around. He'd already moved all of his personal items from the office up to his room, and was almost surprised at how little there was. He'd been using that office for nearly two years. Course, he never was one to collect things. What he did leave here would be secure until he came back, no matter when that was.

He grabbed a few items, tossing them in his side pouch. A waterskin, some bread, cheese and a few dried fruits and meats from the kitchen downstairs. Gold. He fished around in a trunk. He'd had little need for gold since coming to work in the Red Dragon. Then there were the items he'd found stashed in the tunnels and caves in the foothills where his cave was. No, that was one thing he didn't worry much about, but now....well he'd better have some just in case. Finally he found a small pouch full of coins and put that with the rest of his things.

Slinging the bag over his shoulder, he stepped towards the window and flipped the latch. The windows swung open noiselessly and a fresh breeze drifted in. He would have time to savor it later though, lots of time. In one fluid motion he sprung out the second-story window head first. By the time he'd hit the ground he was in full panther form.

He landed with a dull thud as his large paws made contact with the soft ground. Then he stopped, his eyes closed. The changes were becoming painful. They had been for awhile, which is why he rarely bothered to switch from his hy-bred form these day.

After a few labored breaths, the pain subsided. Then, without looking back the large cat bounded away from the Inn, disappearing into the surrounding forest.

Running 1997-JUL-01

He wandered on for the better part of the day, following along a shallow stream. He moved at a fairly leisurely pace, a sort of lopping trot. He moved nearly silently, just the rustle of brushing against an occasional branch.

His senses kept him aware of what was going on about him, but his mind wandered. Leaving RhyDin wasn't easy. He didn't want to go, he had so many memories from his last few years spent there. But that's also why he had to go.

Everyone he loved was gone. Chiana, Sparrow, Khy, Kit, Siera, Mika...the kids...

He'd forced a lot of this out of the way in order to keep going. But he couldn't keep doing it. Things were bubbling just under the surface, and sometimes things were causing the feelings to erupt. Snapping at someone here, becoming overly frustrated with a situation there.

He didn't know what leaving would accomplish. Probably nothing. He was running away from problems when he came to RhyDin. He never planned on staying, but he did. He tried to convince himself he wasn't running again.

The sun was dipping low on the horizon when he finally side-tracked long enough to catch some game for dinner. He surprised a wild turkey and was able to down it very quickly. He didn't feel like stopping to build a fire so he ate the fowl raw. He hadn't eaten a fresh kill like this in a long time and he felt somewhat refreshed as he lay near the stream, chewing the meat off the bones, spitting out feathers.

After quenching his thirst in the stream, he moved on again, following it further downstream. The sun was long gone, and the moon high in the sky by the time he finally found a place to bed down. Curling up under a large pine tree on a bed of soft needles he drifted off into a fitful sleep.

Regression 1997-AUG-05

The next few weeks were a blur. All this time he remained in full panther form. Dining on fresh kill, lapping water directly from the streams and lakes.

Most days he would just find a perch in a tree, or maybe lay on a rock, letting his fur soak up the sun. He'd become a part of the forest again, at least on the outside. When he did travel it was usually at night. He avoided any signs of people. Leaving behind trails, keeping to the deeper parts of the forests. His movements took him in a generally eastern direction, into lands he'd not explored before. Having to focus on where he was, learning the landmarks, searching for food and water sources helped keep his mind off the things he was trying to forget.

As much as he tried not to think about them however, the thoughts and memories would creep back. Most often they haunted him as he slept, in his dreams. Visions of his children, of Mika seemed to push their way into his mind the most, but there were others as well. Visions of tending bar at the Dragon, working around the Inn, putting the roof on the Outback.

The more they flooded his mind, the more he wanted to fight them. The more he wanted to fight them, the further he started to run. Part of him hoped that if he could get far enough away from them, they wouldn't find him, they wouldn't haunt him.
