Sometimes, Lirssa just feels like dancing. When she does, she goes to the club West Egg located in Stars End. While they tend to play swing and have a live band, they will also throw in music from the multiverse. Anyone is welcome to visit West Egg or join Lirssa there. Dance attire not necessary — clothes are.

Lirssa does not have a large wardrobe. This is what she usually wears to dancing at West Egg.

When she arrives this afternoon (the club goes on and on) the first song she dances to is:

Post cargo run to the medical ship Vesalius, Lirssa goes to West Egg. Last song of the day for her:

Ring of Fire

The approach from the table nearby in the din of busy club West Egg. "Hi, I'm Patrick."

Hand shake. "Lirssa. Nice to meet you."

"Share a dance?"

And her offered hand is taken to lead her out to the dance floor.

Afternoon for a chance to dance. The night would be full of performances including earning a little extra glim for contortion and ribbon work on the upper stage of a dance club in West End. It's a full day.

But dance first.

She needed to dance. After the late night talk and the early morning run to the orbiting space station, Lirssa needed to be other than who she was for an hour or two. Just move and listen to the music.

This song would do the trick.

Little Less Conversation

A late night. An early morning. The flight up to the passing cruiser Cordoba for only slightly shady dealings and big pay put Lirssa in a good mood. She wanted to dance, and that meant West Egg. By the afternoon, she was there, feeling at ease. Sebastian Ross and the band were indulging their need for swing and big band music.

Lirssa relaxed, feeling the tension inside her chest unwind. For all the riotous color and mass of people, she was comfortable. There was a duality played out in subtle cues. People treated each other with respect. Sensuality and flirtation played out in finely chosen words and looks. The touch of a hand meant something if coupled with the right words. It was thrilling to watch wits meet and spar just before moving to the dance floor where smiles crafted entire sentences of admiration or spite.

He was just another guy looking for a dance, and that was fine. That was what she was there for. "Hello." He smiled and offered her his hand. "My name is Tony. Care to?" A tilt of his head to the dance floor.

Resting fingertips in his palm, Lirssa stood. "Would love to, Tony. I'm Lirssa."

He led her out to the floor, "I know."

That was odd. But not odd enough for Lirssa to skip dancing to Moonlight Serenade

She had not heard back from Canaan. Until she did, well, she would keep the positive thoughts going. Everything was fine. Of course, even if it wasn't.....yeah, way to keep the thoughts positive.

There had been a lot of good that week. Some not so good. It all liked to tumble around, fighting for priority in her thoughts. The best way to give the good the advantage — West Egg and dancing.

The one thing never lacking in West Egg" A guy willing to dance with a girl.

So last week, after Lirssa picked up Taneth and Leonard on Moxie, they headed out to West Egg. It was time to get some dancing going.

Leonard invited Taneth to dance, and Lirssa was claimed by a fellow named Thomas. The song" Sway

The hour was late. West Egg Dance Hall didn't care. No one there cared the hour, the light of the moons, or the dull glow of light from the chandeliers to chase the shadows from the corners.

Fewer bodies pressed for space on the dance floor. Many or few, Lirssa was alone. She left her shoes by a table. Her hair now a mess of its braid from earlier. No flight. No appointments. Nothing but the never ending search of the streets for one more life.

Not this night. Shirking sleep, she flew to Stars End and sought the comforts of music, dance, and solitude in an ocean of others.

The band had left and kicked on the auto-conductor. So when the deep night, early morning tickled at her sweaty back and breathed against her neck, she released every emotion in a fusion of dance and penance to Shake it Out.

She needed to dance and she needed a friend. Add those up, and it equals Leonard. She could spill her concerns and know that he wasn't reading anything into them. He'd be honest with her; no angles for himself, no hedging to save her feelings.

So she took a break from her day, picked Leo up, and they went to West Egg Dance Hall.

The middle of the day, Sebastian Ross and the band hit up just the right tune, and Leonard and Lirssa danced to You Don't Know Me

It was Sunday morning. Normally she would have been training with Canaan, but he was off world, out of world, whatever he wanted to call it.

There were several other things she could do, of course, but she needed to move. Sleep was plagued by dreams of endless mazes, dead ends where she found someone desperate for help, drowning, bleeding, broken. The only solution was when she woke to keep moving.

So she went dancing, and the songs rejuvenated her pressing her out of her thoughts. This day, it was Wide Awake.

No shows. Nothing to keep her moving, and Lirssa needed to keep moving. She was long overdue for a visit to West Egg — and create new memories. Nothing there that would make her tricky mind build up images of "Did he" Were they?"

A double date, Jewell and Kalamere joined Aric and Lirssa in the dance club, where Sebastian and the band were in full 40s and swing band mood. The place where no one was without a dance partner if they wanted one.

For Lirssa, it was a wonderful, comfortable place to be — 'finding the happiness I seek' — dancing with Aric.

Cheek to Cheek

It didn't take long for Jewell and Kalamere to get into the 'swing' of things, but slow songs really showed off their natural, well matched grace.
