Hey folks,

Welcome to Reigns OOC message board.

I love how I'm listed first as moderator.

At least someone knows who truly 'reigns? here. ;)

I tease. :)

Just as a clarification, I'm only listed as a moderator so I can help Knightfall get his folder in order from an OOC perspective. Knightfall works and plays with many players, so I can only lay claim IC to the parts of his stories that are done with Fiona. The credit for the other stories in this folder goes to the extremely talented writers of those characters. As such, all are welcome to post in Reigns, play with the history and settings related to Alluvius, and expand on the ever growing list of contributors. :) Got a question' Just ask.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone, and give a general little thank you note here to everyone who's helped me with my Alluvius stuff, both in free form role play and my table top game (I run two of them concurrently with the written material, and use the site for a RP resource).

In no particular order, and using a mix of real first names and screen names (depending on if they're from site or not, and some other stuff)....Tris, Fiona, Joel, Lulu, Tyler, Miranda, Brian, Chad, Evan, Army, Eflow, Woolley, Lady Lit, Shannon, Bryant, Steve....I'm forgetting people. Apologies, its a long list.

Thanks for all the help, to those folks (both in the past and ongoing).

I could have done it without you....but it wouldn't have been near as much fun.

Ok, I really couldn't have - but I thought that would be funnier to say, even though it makes me look like an arse. :) Actually, especially because it makes me look that way. :)

After a ....semi-long absence....I'm back again.

Another harvest season finished, and just when I think I can't mislike farming any more than I already do, when I think its gotten as bad as it could possibly get....my expectations are blown away. :p

Now to stop scratching my brow at the unholy miasma of work I started right before I left, and actually get around to accomplishing some of it.

I see many characters that have been around for quite some time. I look at how many posts they have and I get lost in their stories wondering what and when and how they got to that point. It is especially hard when I can't figure out the chronological order because the vast stories are spread out over many folders. I always wish for a quick reference guide, something to read to help direct me through the threads. This is what I'm hoping to accomplish with my Following Fiona O"Neill OOC thread.

I started out describing Fiona's history of when she came to Rhydin, how she joined Bristle Crios, and how she adopted her daughters. I included summaries for "Tales of One Confused Girl" which I wrote with Nikia mun, and "They' which I wrote with Weiss mun. I recently added summaries for "Ex Memoria: From Memory' and "Heartflight by Moonlight", which I wrote with Knightfall mun. I hope to include most, if not all, of my stories. For those who I have written stories with, or make any reference to your characters, if you are unhappy with the way I described the story, the scene, or your character, please let me know and I'll be happy to edit it to your liking or remove it completely.

I hope others reading here might be inspired to do something similar to show off all your character has been through. Consider it a Cliff's Notes for the character. :) And feel free to weigh in....What do you think of this idea" Yea or nay' I've seen similar done in a few other folders and I personally loved the idea and tried to make my own version. How would yours look" If you get around to making one yourself, feel free to post the link here and show it off!

I wanted to draw extra attention to some special posts made a couple weeks ago, in case you missed them....

DevilishOne began her own summaries thread in Of Wind and Myth:OOC. She kicks off the thread with incredibly detailed information about "A GreenStone Tale" and "Elven Journal". I can't wait to see the rest of the entries for her A GreenStone Tale folder.

Claire Farron made a A Table of Contents for what seems like the whole Lux Aeterna folder, from "Duo Corda, Unum Animam: Memoriis" to "Press Statement: Dragon's Gate Orphanage". What a daunting task! But she pulled it out perfectly.

Now that my own summary thread is up to date, I should probably do the same with the Reigns folder. We'll see. :P

Kudos to both ladies! :)

I tend to put a lot of research into my characters, their interests, and their histories. Fiona is no different.

When I first created her, it took me awhile to figure out where I wanted her life to begin. As a banshee, I knew I wanted her to have her roots in Ireland, using as much as I could from Irish culture, including is deep foundations in religion. I wanted her to be in a very small knit community. I also wanted her to be in a place that was special, for whatever reason.

In beginning my research, I found out there are only two Tau crosses in Ireland. The religious symbol shaped like a T is sometimes believed to be the actual shape of the cross of which Jesus was crucified. One of which is in Tory Island, a small island to the north of Ireland. Having her grow up on a small island would create an even smaller community. I thought this would be perfect. And thus, Fiona was born on Tory Island " or at least that's what she believes...

Fiona begins reminiscing about where she grew up in my next installment of "Give Up the Ghost".

Here is some real life trivia about Tory Island that continues to inspires my work: Located 14.5 km (9 mi) off the north-west coast of County Donegal in Ireland The island is approximately 5 km (3 mi) long and 1 km (0.6 mi) wide A monastery was founded on Tory in the 6th century by Saint Columcille The population is divided among four towns - East Town, West Town, Middletown, Newtown The 2002 census recorded a population of 133 In 2010, the King of Tory confirmed that there were 96 people living on the island The "King" has no formal powers, but is a spokesperson for the island and welcomes visitors Tory has no airport, but has regular ferry connections from mainland County Donegal

Fiona grew up as a Roman Catholic because the small island where she was born is deeply rooted in Catholic history. "The islanders are all practicing Roman Catholics." The monastery there was founded by one of the three patron saints of Ireland. "The island is sacred to St. Columba and very proud of its association with the saint." Read more about Tory Island's Religious Culture.

I reference St. Columba in my latest post to "Give Up the Ghost". Fiona refers to him as Colm Cille. I did this because this is his Irish name and baptismal name, which means "church dove?. In addition to his religious foundations for Tory Island, he also has several ties to the Neill family. I explored these ties in my post. Read more about him on Wikipedia and New Advent.

St. Columba or Columkille of lona was born in 521, at Gartan, in Donegal. He belonged to the Northern Hy Neill, his father being grandson of Conall Gulban son of Niall of the Nine Hostages; but he gave up all the worldly advantages of his high birth for religion. In the year 546 he built the monastery of Derry; after which, during the next fifteen years, he founded a great number of churches and monastery all over the country, among others those of Kells Swords, Tory Island, Lambay near Dublin, and Durrow in King's county, the last of which was his chief establishment in Ireland.

In "Give Up the Ghost", Fiona discusses her ability to sing two notes at one time. This refers to the technique of polyphonic overtone singing. In my opinion, the current leading master of this is Anna-Maria Hefele. She has a few videos on youtube to explain and demonstrate this technique. The one I would like to point out is the one that features a Sound Visualization made with Overtone Analyzer so you can see, and hear, what she is doing while she sings. In the beginning of the video, she maintains a base note, or fundamental, while going up and down the scales with her overtones. I highly recommend watching the first two and a half minutes of the nine minute video to fully understand the concept.

This is how she explains the technique:

"When I sing a tone, I'm really singing many tones at once, the fundamental and the overtones. They all sound at the same time and normally you hear them as one single tone. Using frequency filters in the computer, I can listen to each overtone separately. " But I don't need the computer to filter the overtones. With overtone singing techniques, I can filter them with my mouth. My voice produces the same sound as before, but now my mouth filters out all overtones that I don't want. The one that remains is amplified and gets louder. " This is the basic idea of overtone singing. I simply make one of the overtones so loud that you can hear it as a separate tone."

Anna-Maria Hefele This will probably be my last installment of this little Behind-The-Scenes for my Fiona research for "Give Up the Ghost", though I have a lot more for her to do in the story. So, tell me" Did you enjoy any of this" Did you learn something, or should I just stick to the stories? I'd love to hear from you.

Yikes, talk about your better late than never responses!

As always, thanks for reading and @Claire specifically - glad you enjoyed it. :)

It actually started out as more of an obituary type of thing than collaboration....then just mutated, and mutated again into the Rising Son thread. Whatever the case, its been a lot of fun to do, and there's still some more to come on it which is being....slowly paced out. :)

For anyone reading here and not on the Bristle Crios thread (I can't imagine who you'd be), more High Eternals and....unclassified whatnot (villains!) from the Alluvius setting appear in the BC "Oops" related threads by Ammy Spiritor. I have the distinct feeling that the endgame of the first of those threads is going to end up spilling over into a couple different places...

Again, thanks all for reading, now that my seldom posted ooc comments are done....I shall retreat back into IC hibernation. ~.^

I wanted to share some story summaries that I added to my Of A White Lady thread. I've worked on three projects so far this year, so I thought it was about time to add them to the list. Once I develop a few more, I will probably add another post to help break up the different stories of Fiona's life in Rhydin.

The first project I began this year was in February with "Give Up the Ghost". This is a practice writing exercise for me to, in a way, begin to write out Fiona's back story. Instead of writing it out in its entirety, I thought it might be a neat concept to have Fiona reminisce about her past, during the present. It is still a work in progress, but I do chip away at it here and there when I'm inspired. Since it highlights her past, it is not as high of a concern versus my more currently relevant projects.

Also in February, I started "Through Light and Shadow" with Shea Greenstone. In the story, Fiona meets Shea in a chance meeting in the woods surrounding Bristle Crios while Shea was on her way home to Rhydin from a battle in her homeland of Ehdel Ndor. Upon first sight, Shea incorrectly recognizes Fiona as a fire mage from her past. Both women go on the alert. Read the story to find out if the scene turned into a combative situation.

In May, I began "The Hallowed Manor" with Zynisch Lucis. A wrathful set of armor named Yakumo comes to find Fiona working in her office at Eternal House at Bristle Crios not long after she felt his malicious, otherworldly presence enter the grounds. Zynisch Lusic, member of Eternal House and professor at the Academy of Bristle Crios, emerged from the armor in an incorporeal ghostly spirit form to ask for her assistance. Read the story to find out more about his request.

Hey everyone,

Generally I try not to post a lot ooc, except for explicit info dumps so....this'll be one of those, kinda.

Apologies to anyone I was involved in writing with for the past little bit, life got rather....crazier than usual, again. For the sake of all of you, I'm hoping that my experiences are unique in frequency and level of crazy involved. x.x This is just kind of a catch all, 'I'm back' to make sure I get everyone - if I break it down into individual PMs then I'll end up writing a small novella to each of you with explanations and such, so I figured I'd just forego that.

@Ammy Spiritor- mun especially, apologies; most of the others I play with I've managed to get an instant message or imessage or something to over the last couple months saying, hey, I'm still alive, etc.; we were doing something (with me on Atticus), which ....I've got a couple proposals to suggest a way to renew or redirect us if you're still interested. Seriously, many apologies, talk about crap timing - I was really looking forward to what we were doing.

@Everyone else, players, readers, friends, frenemies, etc....life's still pretty crazed, but I'm gearing up to play/write again, so I think its fair to say...

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaack...

Now, I was looking for a neat quote to end my mini-rant and I found something I really love....even though it doesn't quite make sense. Well, two somethings...

'Reality! What a concept!', and 'Reality is just a crutch for people who can't cope with drugs', both from the late, great, Robin Williams.

Hey friends, readers, and all you other folks. Just a couple things I wanted to mention while they're still germane in terms of time frame. :)

Gubernatorial Race 2016

Seems like it started fast, but that could be my own hectic schedule. Congrats to everyone who chose to participate; what a colorful bunch of characters this year for sure.

Special mention obviously to the three finalists, in no particular order, Katt Batten, Ammy Spiritor, and Francis Collins. I'm not going to throw support behind any one candidate here (I vote by determining who each of my characters would likely support, and the person that gets the most of their support gets my vote - generally), but I think the three of you would each fill the role well, in your own ways (that's to the characters, and players both).

I really don't want to single anyone out, either, but I have to mention the Humanity First movement. Very interesting approach to the Governor SL, and just in general. I was speaking with someone OOC about the HF movement, and I mentioned that they (Francis Collins et al) were a villain, and the person I was speaking with countered that they were just misunderstood. For the record, I think that's almost the hallmark of all villainy. Not -all-, but almost all. Somewhere along the line, I think, there's usually a fork in the road that a character (PC, NPC, storyline itself even) that hinges on some form of misunderstanding. On one side of the fork you have heroes, anti-heroes, and the like, while on the other side you start a progress towards villainy - though your speed on that path may vary.

Please don't take any of the above as criticism either, it's more a commentary. I find what you're doing both provocative and fitting to the times we live in - and obviously by the returns from the first ballot, you're commanding fair attention from it, which is certainly your due. While it's unlikely that my characters in their majority (none are real 'humans', even if they could pass themselves off) would vote for Collins, I'm really interested to see where this goes.

THAT being said, anyone swayed by what I just said, to vote for HF, should really check out the other two contenders. You'd be doing a disservice to yourself, and your characters by not doing so.

Lame Duck Governor

Alright. So the election is in full swing. But what about the old, new guy?

Here's looking at you, Ebon. :)

Not to sound a stalker, but although I wasn't around as much as I've wanted to be, I've kept tabs (literally, in the case of web browsers) on what?s been going on. Congrats on a great run as Gov., I think in the very least you provided a lot of much needed stability to the Governorship, and the associated SL, and were definitely the driving force in keeping it alive - and off of life support, even - so that it could still be going today.

In retrospect, the title I chose for this section was misleading. I don't know how the elections work here, if its immediate change or if there's a period where you (Ebon) are still the Gov and there's a Gov elect. At any rate, you definitely have proved yourself to be the opposite of a lame duck, I would say, during your tenure. So, without -more- fuss, again - congrats.

Happy Anniversary

Ok, last, and ....I'd say not least, but that would be unnecessarily egocentric; happy anniversary to our little folder here, those who've written in it - and also those who are reading!

I can't tell you how many WTF moments I've had upon glancing into the folder and noticing the view counts attributed to some of the threads (here's looking at you, Rising Son readers - whoever you are). Thanks for your continued support and patronage, like I said earlier in this post, I'm not around nearly as much as I'd like to be, but on the other hand I'm not disappearing either.

So, cheers to that, and to all of you.

Waves and hellos to the lovely folder you all have here. Sorry it's taken me so long to get to it and reading things. Happy to see you all doing well and belated Happy anniversary for your folder!

Seeing this is where a few people are active that I'd like to bounce a budding idea off of, I'll post it here and if I need to redirect elsewhere I will be happy to do so.

I've been sitting a lot on my hands with Ammy teaching things since, well, a lot has fallen apart in my life in the real world. Much has been put into reassembly. That said, I am enjoying having her a student but my long time rp mate mentioned that it may be time she just bites the bullet and teaches a class again. She threw an idea at me and I want to in turn, bounce it here and see if it is something that has merit.

She suggested, that Ammy, being a deity of sorts, attempt to teach a fun, open minded class that aims to discuss and explore varied deities and gods in how they are structured, how their powers may function or work, etc. As well as to show how quite a few deity 'types' can be just as normal and fallible as any mortal. A basic 101 sort of Deitology to see how various realms could consider something divine but not be focused on any religious view points of the deities themselves. What would you all think?

Knightfall

Date: 2016-11-28 22:33 EST
Salutations!

Thanks for reading, playing, and hope you're enjoying!

Before I more directly respond to your remarks about the Deitology class (Theology' Maybe not quite right. Have to think about it.) I'm just going to suggest that maybe it's a conversation better pursued in the Bristle Crios OOC Thread, but that's only on the basis that's probably where the would be students are. :) If you're reading this and not a student, but are interested in taking the classes - check it out, it's not difficult to take part.

Directly regarding your proposed class, I think it's a great - if potentially challenging and contentious idea. If I might suggest some questions that might help, and this is quite arrogant of me - at least it sounds so, to provide a foundation' What are god/gods/Gods/God" That those questions are posed doesn't really necessitate an answer, either, at least nothing definite or detailed. Maybe the way I phrased it sounds a bit 'epic', but I think that's kind of what your ideas are beating around, somewhat at least, in terms of what different realms consider divine, the fallibility of deities, etc.; there's so much material you could cover, and such a wealth of options for flavor - like which realms pantheons or what have you you'd like to look at. The only other thing I'll suggest is this: try to use examples, and try to make them as easy to identify with as possible; if your lesson plan includes something you're having a hard time providing an example for, consider refining the lesson plan.

Honestly I could go on about this for a good while. I think it's a good idea, and if you hadn't gotten to it, I would have called dibs. I know Atticus will have at least a paragraph or two about gods in his A&M Theory thread, but only as they relate to magic. I know I have more than one character who would be interested in the discussion at the very least.

So, yeah. Merit' Yeah, I'd say you're safe.

Regards, Kris

Thank you for the response. I will copy and post my original post to the BC OCC thread and if you don't mind, Knightfall, may I in include your post as an initial response as well? I think perhaps I was wondering how the A&M class was discussed enough in the early stages of thought before being offered. I think that is where I have missed a step.

Knightfall

I think you've already posted - but yes, you can always quote me (I'm sure that'll come back to bite me...).

And I might be misinterpreting but I think you're asking what kind of prep I did before doing the A&M thread" lol Or are you saying I should have warned people more aggressively before the A&M class started"

To the former, I didn't really consult other than with the Poll that was put up - which at the time I put it up, it was for a slightly different class than the one that is running right now. But in order to do the class I wanted to do, I had to make it make sense (if that makes sense). The class I wanted was more, 'how and why does it do the stuff it does"', but to get to that I had to go through 'what is it"' first. It'll make more sense, I promise. I hope.

To the latter: I didn't consult really at all, if that's what you were getting at. Which I probably should have, maybe? But again, I already knew what I wanted to do, and have confidence I can tie it all together to make it a worthwhile endeavor, and have it make sense in the end. And if that doesn't do it for you, I'm going to be like Oprah with the icons when it's finished.

In regards to the prep, though, again I didn't do a lot of consultation - which could have been a mistake - but I did do a lot of prep. I outlined the entire class from start to finish. I picked out a couple cosmologies I liked from different role play systems, that closest fit my characters for my basis; it had to make sense to my character in order for him to explain it. There's a lesson plan for every new session, all of them made before I posted the first post; I just fill in the details and flavor when I sit to write them. Of course I have no idea what kind of questions are going to come at me after each class, so each of those are on the fly - and thanks to everyone playing for that.

I hope, but have no idea if I've answered any of your questions or not - if I haven't feel free to ask again, or to ask....whatever else you want, really. :)

Regards, Kris

Friends, Writers, Forum-folk,

So, tempus fugit and all that, eh' In the process of making my return from yet another savage, metaphorical, beating. I finally find myself with the time to work on things and play again after not posting for a couple of months " several things have been in the editors docket but haven't had the time to finish them.

Expect to see a return to, and near conclusion of, Fringe Sojourn in the next few weeks, along with a finishing out of the Bloodlines FAQ. The latter is a case of knowing what I want to write, but not necessarily knowing how to say it; after looking away for a bit, it's come back " somewhat " into focus.

Obviously, for those of you reading or playing along at Bristle Crios in the A&M Theory thread, something is coming down the pipe for that as well " hopefully by this weekend. I apologize for the time it's taken me to get back to it " my inability to move it forward is one of my current great annoyances. I'll make it up to you " somehow. :)

Finally, for any of you who keep reading or re-reading Rising Son, I have to ask: what is it, the fact that you can't figure out who the son is" The reason for the continually rising view count has been a subject of some amusing discussion between myself and the co-author, and I'm here to tell you: we kind of forgot to state it explicitly, so you'll have to wait for the follow up ? also in the works.

As always, Best regards, K
