Topic: To my daughter,

Blood Sister

((OOC Note: This is a little personal project that I plan to chip away over time.))

Leta sat hunched over her desk at one of her many 'safe' locations, her head covered by her hands as her elbows rested on the desk top. She sighed and sat back in her chair, bringing her arms down. One hand picked up a pen resting in a cup while the other steadied the paper in front of her.

It was time.

She took a deep breath and began to write.

To my daughter,

She sighed. Did she want to start out with a lie" Was it a lie" She may have not given birth to her, but she raised her....in a strange sense.

You will not know me. I went to great pains to ensure you never knew me, or your biological mother. Although she gave you birth, it was I who truly gave you life.

Who am I?

To myself, I am a master manipulator. To those who have been under my effects, I am a simple figment of imagination. To those I work with at The Company, I am an asset.

With that line, she would know. Her daughter would know that her mother worked for the same Company that she had worked for most of her life.

She might begin to wonder if her job there was as a result of her mother's doing.

It was.

She might start to worry over how much of her life her mother had a hand in.

All of it.

Leta put the pen to paper again...

I first joined The Company many years ago. Like all they entangle in their snares, they saw power in me and recruited me for their efforts. Consider it a mutually beneficial relationship, for I saw in them the potential power they, too, could develop if fostered correctly. I joined the ranks, started at the bottom and lied and cheated my way to gain the favor of those at the top.

Given my abilities to deceive and control the minds of others, it was an easy feat. I gained their trust and their esteem as a Seer. It was a simple play. After all, a Seer is exalted more and more each time her predictions become true. I soon learned that it was faulty to leave the most important events to random chance. If I had the abilities to sway events leading up to my 'predictions' in my favor, should I not?

Do not misunderstand, my child, for I can See. Just as an engineer can see and understand the inner workings of a machine, I can see the inner workings of socioeconomics and politics. Just as a sculptor can see the work of art inside a block of granite, I can see people's deepest fears and desires. I have found that, with simple tools of insight, one does not always need foresight.

It was not always about what she could see. Sometimes it was what she could hear. Voices. Voices around her. Voices inside her head. Sometimes they helped, while other times it drove her to the point of madness. It wasn't something she would admit, especially to her daughter. The Company didn't even know....That wasn't true. Solomon knew.

Leta had so much to tell her. Overwhelmed, she knew she needed to stop thinking, and keep writing. She continued...

You probably would like to know about your birth mother. My sister.

I wish we could put aside our differences one day and come together as we once were. She and I were so close. Inseparable. Now, it is like we are two sides to the same coin. We will never be able to mend our relationship until she accepts her part in what happened. What happened" That is a matter for another letter.

You should know, your birth mother and I aren't simply sisters. We are twins. Identical. Cut from the same cloth. That is why you as as much my daughter as her's. When you were born, I saw the potential you had. That was when I knew I needed to step in.

There was so much....so much she would need to fully explain to justify why she did what she did. Would she even be able to fully explain it to the young girl" This might be her only chance.

Your mother and I always seemed to have had an estranged relationship, though our paths would cross every once in a while. I guess living for centuries would allow that to happen on occasion.

One fateful day, I had the opportunity to take you and mold your life into everything I hoped that it would be. From that moment on, although I have monitored you and your progress as you have grown, I was sure to stay out of direct contact with you as often as I could. Though I've had many reasons for this, the two biggest reasons were your parents. I hoped as long as I kept you at arm's length, even if they would find me, that they would not be able to find you. Unfortunately, I believe your father found and watched over you far more than I would have preferred.

You may be wondering about your father. Before you start imagining a loving husband and father, know this: It was because of him that you were separated from your mother. It was because of him that I was able to mold your life into what it is now. It was because of him that there grew such a rift between your mother and I.

Everything is your father's fault .

After that sentence, she pushed so hard on the paper to create the period, that she pierced the pen through the parchment, inadvertently leaving a small ink stain from the pen on the page as well as the next. She would have pierced it through his heart if she could have.

Turning the page, she took a breath and begin again...

I guess it all started when your father met your mother. He was charming, kind, sweet, and that one trait that does most women in - funny. I hate funny.

Your mother probably wouldn't admit it, but I knew she had fallen in love with him instantly. Probably the first time he made her laugh. He wormed his way into her heart and she had never been able to shake him, not until....Well, we'll get to that.

So long ago, it seems like another time and place, your father said something to me that made me just snap. You do not need to know what it was, but know that it was enough to cause my sister and I to split and never be as close as we once were. I do not believe the damage will ever be fixed between us, but its of no consequence now.

In an effort to save your mother from your father's grasp, I used my abilities to alter her mind so that she would not know who your father was. In doing so, she does not know of your existence. You, or your twin.

She wouldn't know of her twin yet. Leta had done enough to make sure that Pandora's box would never open. She didn't want the same thing happening to the girl with her twin that happened between Leta and her's.

Yes. I'm sorry to say my dear girl, you have a twin.

You, like your mother, have a twin....someone to whom you have an unexplainable bond.

Should she tell her now"

Should she tell the girl of her twin and its identity'

Should she dare say it was a male"

If she did, would the girl wonder if every male she came across was her twin....even the males she was attracted to' ....what indecency....

You have met him before. Although I tried to make sure that you never crossed paths, you have. I don't know how it happened, but I suspect your father...

In truth, I am not fully aware of your twin's abilities as of yet. His powers have such a strange manifestation. They are far outside the realm of my own. They are something oddly duplicitous....like your father.

Leta wondered if the girl would even read this far if she was given this manuscript. Would she even believe a word of it?

No matter what, Leta wanted her to know the truth. She continued...
