Timora

Without delay, he helps Timi into their vehicle, and there they go, speeding through Rhydin to Riverview. He was her priority even as she took deep breaths. All he could do was encourage her as a small whimper left her lips, her eyes closed and her palms cupping at her stomach. He would waist no time when they arrived at Riverview to get out of the vehicle and then help Timora out of the car, and into the Clinic.

Once within the clinic Timora was offered a wheel chair. A small sob left her lips while her eyes squinted shut. Her body wriggled into the wheel chair. Both of her eyes were closed and her hand was squeezing at Guill's hand.

It was Stas' last night on duty and he was in the doctor's lounge, signing charts and going over orders with one of the RN's on duty. A cup of coffee sat on a table and he took sips of it between reading and signing charts. Suddenly the door bursts open and a young intern enters the room. "Doctor Ryan, one of your patients has arrived. They're wheeling her in now, and we'll get her into L & D 2." Stas nodded at the news and tossed the chart onto the table. "I'll scrub up and be right there. You kow the drill, keep her calm." He gave the intern a smile and went to put on a pair of scrubs.

He stayed by Timi's side, his hand squeezing hers, a soft kiss to her forehead, trying to keep her as calm as is practically possible at this point.

Sweat is beading on her forehead and her eyes are clenching shut. Her hand is so tight around Guill's hand that he's going to feel it. She is actually rather calm besides the small sobs of pain and the whimpers. Her head shakes now and then while she tries to adjust this way and that on the wheel chair. When they get her to the room she shifts, doing her best to get into the gown as quickly and as carefully as possible. Once in the bed she shifts and moves until she's comfortable enough besides the pains.

At this point, the nurse straps Timi into the monitors, with long belts going around her waist. Guill smiles down at his wife. He would be looking into her eyes, if they weren't clenched shut. Meanwhile, he can hear the babies' heartbeats from the monitor.

'Is he here" Is he here" I don't want anyone but him helping. I want Dr. Ryan helping.' She had come to like their doctor quite a bit. Her small frantic pants for breaths were obvious enough. She was trying to do her breathing exersizes, but at this point she just wanted to see her doctor.

"I'm sure that Dr. Ryan will be here shortly, dear." He reaches his hand to hers, squeezing it softly.

Eventually the contraction settles for a few moments and she lowers her head back on the pillow," O....Okay." He nodded to her words and held to her hand tightly, making sure his wife is comfortable in this difficult time.

Stas pushes through the room, chart in his hand. "Well, wasn't expecting this for a couple of weeks, but hey, I'm up for it if you are." He smiled and put the chart onto the bedside table. "So, talk to me. How long has this been going on' What did the water look like" Did it smell funny?" He took a pad of paper from his smock pocket and clicked a pen, ready to write.

He looks to his wife, as he was not there when her water broke. Her head was shaking," About an hour, maybe two. For a while I just thought it was cramps until the water broke.....It was alright, clear, and....and..." Deep breath and a slow exhale," And didn't smell." Another deep breath and slow exhale.

Stas wrote down what she said and put it into his pocket. "Let me take a look and we'll see what can be done. Truthfully, with the amnion sac rupture, if the twins are big enough they're coming tonight." The heartbeats sounding squishy and rapid on the monitor gave him no concern. It was something he was accustomed to hearing. "Let me get the ultrasound machine." He pat her hand and then turned to leave the room.

"But...But....They're early.." She sobbed out a bit, a weak whimper fell from her. She was really not looking forwards to this. She panted out, gasped out, and then bumped her head back on the pillow," I thought we had another month."

"Don't worry, my dear....everything's going to be okay." He reaches for her hand to squeeze it again.

Stas pushed the door open, backwards, pulling the cart with the ultrasound machine. "Ready to get your picture taken?" He wheeled the cart up along side of the bed. "Ok, Timi, just lay back." He gently put his hand to her shoulder. "We'll talk breathing while I get the pictures, ok?"

Her head nodded softly and she closed her eyes again," Can I get some water?" She whimpered out softly, her hands rubbed at her belly. Her head shook for a moment," Do I have to get my picture taken?"

"Ice chips." he nodded towards the bowl that the nurse had set down on the table. "Can you get those for her?" He was hooking the stylus' cord into the machine.

He reached for the bowl on the table, bringing it for Timi to reach into.

She took a few and began to suckle them while she panted out. Her eyes closed and she relaxed, her toes wriggling while she lay there. It was the calm before the storm and she knew it.

Stas turned on the machine and applied the gel to her stomach. "Sorry, I know it's cold." He grinned sheepishly then put the stylus to her belly. As the gel smeared over her taught skin, he carefully measured out each twin. "Hmm, about five, four, heart's good, yeah." he spoke quietly to himself as he watched the monitor and took measurements.

"Is everything okay' Are they alright?" More deep breaths and small sobs. Her eyes clenched shut and her body wriggled again," Oh gods....oh gods..." And once again Guill's hand was being squeezed for dear life.

Guill squeezes back, knowing that about all he can do at this point is do whatever Stas tells him to, and to be there for Timi.

Stas had been watching the monitor and when the contraction hit, his eyes narrowed slightly and he nodded. The dip in the baby's heart rate was right on time. "Good, good." Then he turned and looked up at Timi. "Ok, time to learn to breathe. You get hit by a contraction, keep your eyes open. Closing them internalizes the pain and makes it worse. Find something to concentrate on and slowly breathe in and out until the contraction stops. Think you can do that?"

She nodded, both of her eyes wide, and focused on a toe. She did her best to breathe as best as she could, her fingers curling and her hands squeezing at his hand for dear life. A weak whimper left her and she asked again," Are they alright?"

His hand caught in that death-grip, awaiting the answer to Timi's question, looking down to her.

"They're fine. In fact, watch this." He moved the stylus a bit lower and pointed out a dark spot on the monitor, about the size of a pea. "Watch that. I'll come back to it. That's one of their bladders." He moved the stylus, pointing out each of their heads and bodies, ten fingers and toes, times two. Then he came back to the spot. "See, now it's almost not there. Care to venture a guess as to what just happened?"

He doesn't even want to hazard a guess, he thinks he already knows, though he's not going to vocalize it.

Her head shook from side to side as she watched. A small smile on her lips. Even through the screen, she couldn't help but resist the thought of how amazing they looked. Eventually she felt herself slightly ignoring the pain," Did they move?"

"Urinated." he chuckled and pulled the stylus from her belly. He wiped her clean with her gown and then wiped the tip of the stylus with a tissue. "Don't be grossed out, it's a good sign. Kidneys are working, lungs are fine, heart's good, brain looks perfect. They're just going to be a little white, instead of burnt." He pushed the cart away. "I have to do an exam now. Are you ready?" A nurse pulled the cart away as Stas reached for the latex gloves.

Guill gives Stas a look at that phrasing.

"What?" he chuckled and moved towards the end of the bed. "Just a saying, not in the oven too long?" He grinned and sat down on the rolling stool. "Ok, Timi, you know the position."

"Ah." He helps Timi get into position, having been used to this by now.

She nodded to him and hooked her feet on the leather straps" Her breathing is calm and at ease. A small sigh fell from her lips, her body quivered lightly. Her hand stroked at her stomach," They've been kicking me to bits. I'm not surprised one bit, they're running out of room and want to stretch their legs."

Stas didn't use the speculum this time. Instead a nurse put some gel onto his finger, and then he insterted it to feel for the cervix. His eyes narrowed, then widened. "How long did you say the pains were going on?" He pulled his fingers out and turned to the nurse. "Nine centimeters, fully effaced, plus two position." Then he turned to look at Timi. "Vomiting" When's the last time you had a bowel movement?" The stool was pushed to the side and Stas went to the cupboards to pull out a tray of instruments, draped in a blue cloth. "A few hours from now. That's when it started." She was gritting her teeth, the pain growing while she tried to focus back on her toe. The questions he asked were processed again," I didn't vomit this morning and I went to the bathroom a few minutes before my water broke to see if that would make me feel better." A small whimper fell from her lips," It hurts...It really hurts..."

He stood there, silently, his hand resting against Timi's, watching the doctor at work.

"Well." he placed the tray on the rolling table and sat back down on the stool. For now, he kept the tray covered, that was a just in case he needed it. "It won't hurt much longer." he looked at the nurse and nodded. She took her place on the opposite side of the bed from Guill. "Next contraction, lift your head, hold your breath and start to push." He put his hand on the bed, palm upright, waiting.

"O....Okaayy.." A hard breath was drawn in as she waited. Her body shivered for a moment, both eyes closing, and her hands tighting over their holds. She wouldn't have to wait long because another hard breath was drawn in, and then another, and another before she cried out lightly," Ready..." One more breath was pulled in, her head lifted, and she pushed.

The nurse took her free hand and put a hand behind Timi's shoulder to help her up a bit and indicated to Guill he should be doing the same. Stas remained stoic, watching as the crown of the head bulged forward. Streaks of dark hair, moistened to almost black. "Well, that answers that." He chuckled and gently guided his finger around the top of the head. "Relax when the contraction stops."

He helps Timi up just a bit, per doctor's orders.

Her head nodded and her eyes closed. She whimpered out, her face going red before she drew in another breath. When the contraction stopped she slumped back and panted out softly. Her eyes locked on Guill for a moment and she nodded slightly.

Now the contractions should be coming hard and fast. "Again, come on, you can do it." Stas encouraged Timi from his perch at the foot of the bed. "Push!" His eyes locked back on Timi for that moment giving her a bit of encouragement.

She whimpered out and then nodded out. When the contractions surged she pushed and tried her hardest not to scream in the process. Small little sobs of pain came from her, nails squeezing at Guill's hand to possibly the point that it was blue.

"Stop!" he had been gently massaging and pressing softly until one tiny, round head suddenly popped out. He quickly grabbed a bulb syringe and assisted in the natural turning to the side. A small wailing cry was heard in protest of the syringe suctioning out the nose. "Well hello." he smiled and gently cleaned off the scrunched up tiny face.

Timi's eyes went wide when she stopped. Her breathing was wild and she panted out weakly. Small trembles came from her and she laughed out lightly when she heard the sob of the baby," Is it alright?" One down, one to go. Heaven help her she was going to be tired.

Guill let out a slow smile, hearing the baby's cry.

"Another strong push to get the shoulders out." He cradled the tiny head in his palm as he looked up at Timi. "Don't quit on me now. Push!"

She nodded and pushed again, her eyes still open while she held her breath. She was still staring at that toe.

With a sudden pop, the shoulders came free, and Stas maneuvered his hands to guide the slippery and squalling baby. Gently placing her down, he looked up. "Relax for a few minutes." Then he and the nurse used sterile rags to wipe the cream cheese like coating from the baby's skin. But Stas didn't do that for long. Once the umbilicus stopped throbbing, he picked up two plastic clamps. One was placed an inch from the belly button, the other two inches up from that. Grabbing the scissors he held them out to Guill. "Daddy, do your duty."

Guill reached for the scissors slowly, and with his hands shaking, snips the umbilical cord between the two clamps.

She was panted out, her eyes closed and her head lulled back. She was sweating a bit and relaxing. Both of her eyes turned to lock on the infant, or try to. She bit her lip, but she relaxed until told otherwise.

With the cord cut, Stas picked up the infant and held her up. "It's a girl." He smiled and gently placed the baby into the arms of the nurse who bundled her up tightly. The nurse then went to hold the baby close to Timi's head. "You'll hold her when the work's done. That was round one. Round two is about to start and will be much easier."

She nodded to Stas as she looked at the little girl. A small sob left her lips. Her eyes closed tightly and her hand moved to wipe at her paw. She stared for a long moment at the baby before murmuring," Hey there Selene." Mommy could see it with just a look," You're so beautiful."

A smile, seeing his newborn daughter, grasping his wife's hand tightly.

"Beautiful name." He smiled and watched as the nurse took the infant over to the wall unit with it's warming lights. "Apgar, seven." he called out to her, then turned his attention. "Well, somebody's in a hurry. You ready to push again?"

Both of her eyes went wide and she drew in a sharp breath. Her body shivered and her head nodded. A deep breath was drawn in and held before she shifted and began to push.

"That's it." he nodded and twin two was delivered just that quickly. Laying the baby on the table, he and the nurse repeated their actions from just moments before. "Ready, Dad?" He grinned and held up the umbilical cord with two fingers, looking at the scissors still in Guill's hand.

He then cuts through the second umbilical cord, cutting between the two fingers, not as nervous this time.

"Good job." he grinned as the nurse took the scissors from him. The second infant was bundled, but this time, laid upon Timi's stomach and chest. "Baby girl, number two." he smiled and sat back. Gentle tugs to the umbilical cords and he waited for the placentas to slide out.

Timora looked at the little girl and sobbed out softly," Well isn't she a sight. She's just as stunning as her sister." She glanced to Guill and smiled to him softly to him," Guill, it's a house full of girls.."

He grins. "I'm sure little Althaea and little Selene will grow up to be quite the pair, love..."

As the couple spoke and the babies were being taken care of, Stas delivered placentas and began to clean up the mess. "Pretty impressive, twins without a cut or a tear. Good job." He smiled as the mess was wrapped up into sterile linens. "Do you want the placentas or the cords?"

He looks to his wife, questioningly and she looked to Stas and then to her husband. A small breath being drawn in and out as she did her best to calm down. Her head shook and she smiled to him," No, but thank you so much, for everything Doctor. Thank you."

He nodded and the linens were deposited into the waste bin. Getting up, he put his hands on Timi's now flat belly. "Now you need to get up and walk, as soon as possible." he looked at the both of them, with a no nonsense look. And you need to massage the fundus." He took Timi's hand and placed it on her lower belly. "The more you massage it, the faster your recovery. You don't want it to go soft."

Last thing Stas did was pull of the latex gloves. He smiled softly as he picked up the chart and went to the door. He took a deep breath and glanced around the room, as if wanting to seal the image into his mind forever. "Yeah, like that." he whispered and then left the room.

((I would like to say, lots of love and thanks to both Guill and Stas for such a wonderful note. I cannot say more than thank you thank you thank you. It's a beautiful scene!)
