Topic: Faster Than a Speeding Bullet

The car was a red blur, speeding through the city and careening into the emergency drive. As soon as she was close enough, she laid on the horn. By the time she'd slammed it into park by the sliding glass doors, a nurse and a security guard were waiting withteh doors open and a wheelchair.

Harper was still limping as she got out and rounded the vehicle, the rip in her running pants where the shrapnel had pierce her leg flapping. Raye was unconscious, and they were trying to get her out of the car and into the wheelchair.

"She's been shot. The thing that attacked was ....I don't know, but it was mechanical and biological. Icer ripped its head off and it turned into a spider. It let some sort of green gas loose in the inn, and the body got up and started shooting again. Then it exploded." She sounded, to her own ears, perfectly reasonable and cogent

She hadn't had a chance to get to the part about the golden man and the pain rays, before the nurse barked an order to an orderly who came out to help. "Get another chair."

Then the attendant manuvered the chair to the patient and was startled. The only thing holding her in the seat was the seat belt. "Never mind the Chair, get a gurney out here stat!"

There were still gunshot wounds seeping as the orderlies rushed to the car with a stretcher. The chair was brought around for AL to rest in while a medic looked at her leg.

The two orderlies at the car moved into a team lift and one of them recognized Raye from when she had came in for decontamination. "Page Doctor Dorst, Stat. She's a mess!"

The ER came a live then as people got a bay ready for her and started bringing assorted equipment. IV was established and Vital monitoring put into place. The Clinic already had her records from the night of the party. As she was brought into the bay, her clothing was removed and the extent of the injuries from the last two days was brought to light.

Several flesh wounds which had been expertly, yet apparently self treated. Severe bruising around her throat as if something extremely strong had tried to crush her throat. The newer gunshot wounds indicated that the bullets managed to miss vital areas, but it was evident there was internal trauma, shock and blood loss to contend with.

" The first sounds she heard was the faint beeping of the heart monitor. The rhythm was steady and strong. It was hard to think straight, hard to focus. Yet somehow she did. She knew where she was as soon as the first images focused. She had been in enough of these to know immediately. A hospital room"

" she was the patient.

The events leading up to now were crystal clear. The fights, the gunshots" The unanswered call for help. The magic, the healing gone wrong"

What had happened after that was the question.

The hand without the IV went questing for the call button. She would need answers and figure out what she was looking at. How long was she looking at in terms of remaining here" What was the true damage?

All these thoughts ran through her mind as she pressed the call button.

....Another round of testing and therapy. Another set of pitying looks. Paralysis was a bitter pill to swallow but she was forced to swallow it. The lifting and shifting as well as the convulsions caused by the allergy to magical healing had caused the bullets to dig into her spinal cord...

....The damage was permanent. In most cases there was nothing to be done except adjust.

In most cases where cybernetics and nanotechnology was not an option. However, Doc was determined to make it happen, even if she didn't know the specifics yet. Even if she could afford the procedure, it would be out of her reach without a major corp or shadowrunners doing a snatch and run.

She was so deep in thought that no one noticed the living shadow in the room until the nurse left.

"Hoi, Doc. You look like hell."

"Hoi, Mystique..." She quipped, almost not surprised that the Elven Kick Artist was there. "Hells, I've seen you are your worst."

There was a musical laugh. The willowy elf in black stepped into the light with a grin on her lips. "I think I ran into the Slitch that did this to you. Want some wet work done?"

She closed her eyes and the memory of that strung out look appeared in her HUD. "No, not this time. I need a data grab more."

"Oh, from?"

There was a determined look in her eyes as they opened. "NeoNet."

Mystique just grinned and the details were hammered out.

She had to thank a very kind doctor that allowed her to sign out of the Clinic - herself. She was very grateful for Doctor Valkonan's team and the level of care they had exhibited. Yet what she needed to do was tainted by some not so....legal activities, so she needed to distance herself from the Clinic for the time being.

She had known that asking Mystique's help would net her the results she needed. She had provided the Kick Artist with the road map and her decker had the magic touch. No alarms had been triggered as of yet. She knew Neonet would be scanning the black markets for this data and would not think to look in this little Nexus Crossroads...

....If they even knew about it.

With the data and schematics in place, she went to work on the simulation and design phase of the project. This idea was for internal implants to re-route the signals from the brain to the muscles and bioware enhancements for her spinal cord. The thought had been to regrow the nerves in that region and build a bit of a bypass as well. She needed to reconnect the link between brain and legs.

She brought up her holo-display and started making adjustments based on the new data. Neonet had made significant improvements in their technology but the issue would be in fabrication...

....Then Leo's words came to mind. Was it possible" Maybe an arrangement could be made based on the data" She was already devoting her attention full-time to treating the RBF victims but she could find sometime seeing as her social calendar was non-existant.

She had already been accosted once for not accepting help. Yet, how do strangers expect a person to trust them with their health and well-being when they don't even know them outside of an established medical facilities. Hell, Riverview has been a no-brainer thanks to Rachael's endorsement. When someone you trust makes a recommendation, you tend to take them seriously. Which brought her mind back to Leo's offer...

....But how could she contact him' Should she go the most direct route or filter it' She did not want to involve Katt with this side of it given the methods by which the info was obtained.

Yeah, and they want ice water in hell, too...
