So far she had been limiting herself to basic rounds, familiarizing herself with people and patients alike. She tended to the children's wing as if it was her territory and the children there were her charges. She was the kindly lady doctor with the silver hair and the elaborate clothing.

Every child, no matter how long there were admitted for got something special. Be it a specially embroider robe or blanket, each child was given something to help take the fear and the loneliness away. She took special care in bringing joy to the child in the terminally ill wing. One in particular touched her heart.

Little Sarah....The child was an absolute joy in spite of her illness. So for her, was a stuffed fire bird. This was one of the fire birds from her lands, with sparkling beads and embellishments to make it seem like he was throwing off sparklies. She only wished she could reverse the illness. Yet, there was somethings that were beyond even her power.

Still, there was more she could do and so she did. She started setting aside time in the day to take on patients. It made sense to pick-up where Maranya could not and see that essential services were maintained.

It was the Right thing to do.

It was at the end of a day or more rounds and trying to turn a hand where she could. She had a few minutes to work on reports and budgets. Yet her mind was elsewhere.

Not for the first time she wondered about her sons. How were they, where were they....Were they still alive. That thought grip her heart and she bowed her head into her hands. Not for the first time either she mourned the loss. Not for the first time did she berate herself for being a failure as a mother.

Perhaps this is why she focused her time in helping the children here. She was a failure and part of her needed to atone...

She looked up to the heavens as tears steamed down her cheeks, "(vq) Momma is sorry and misses you both very much."
