Dear Dr. Valkonan,

I am writing this letter to ask for your help in designing an urgent care clinic in the Old Market District. I know that my father, R. D. Harker, Sr. was to contact you about this project. However, I think it is important for me to contact you, too, as it was my idea. I am requesting a grant from the MacLeod Foundation to cover the cost of building and furnishing. My father and his business partner, Albert Hall, have agreed to cover the labor costs. I am in need of a very important piece of the puzzle. I am hoping that you will be willing to serve as an adviser and medical consultant for this project.

My idea is to have a place for people to get stitched up and all if they can't get to a big hospital. My Gran says that it might be a good idea to have a special section for kids to get well baby and child care. Since it will be next to one of the fire stations, there will be an ambulance to get them to a hospital if it's a really really bad thing.

There needs to be exam rooms, some offices, a lounge room for the staff, a snack bar, a little lab place, and an x-ray room. Is there anything else you think needs to be there?

Sincerely,

Mairead Harker Baroness of Old Market

Dear Dr. Valkonan,

I'm writing to let you know about the progress that's been made on the urgent care clinic in the Old Market district. The outer structure is finished. Three surgery rooms and one recovering room with four beds are ready on the basement level. The offices, waiting room, and exam rooms are in progress in the ground and second level areas. The UC basement is connected to the emergency shelter in the basement of the fire station. An elevator has been installed in the UC to transport patients to the surgery and for the use of patients in wheel chairs, etc.

Thank you for your help and sponsorship of this project.

Dr. Valkonan,

The urgent care center is progressing nicely. The equipment suppliers that you recommended have been most helpful in getting this project off the drawing board and into tangent form. I look forward to taking you on a tour of the shelter and as well as an inspection of the surgical unit and staff facilities. Here are some details of the completed basement area for your perusal.

The urgent care surgical and recovery unit has three fully equipped surgery rooms and four recovery beds. Limited neonatal facilities are available. Staff kitchen, lounge, and sleeping facilities are open to all urgent care staff. The sleeping facilities have six beds with vanity and personal storage available. Four all-in-one staff bathrooms are located within the surgical nurses' station and triage area. The area can be accessed via stairs and elevator in the urgent care center.

The emergency shelter can be accessed via stairs through the fire station. For those with disabilities, injuries, or small children access can also be gained through the elevator in the urgent care center. The communal kitchen and dining area can seat 38 people plus infants/toddlers in high chairs. There is a small lounge with TV/movies and some games. When meals are not being served, the dining area is suitable for board, card, and some other group games. There are four sets of washers and dryers. H&H's design includes two large rooms, male and female quarters, with six bunk beds each. Eight all-in-one bathrooms and two dressing areas are available in this area. There are seven rooms set aside for family groups of various sizes. Each room has an all-in-one bathroom, mini-fridge, and microwave. Those in need of long term arrangements for housing will be given temporary shelter and assistance in finding more permanent quarters.

Harker & Hall is aware of the many transgender people living in Rhydin. The male and female designations within the basement level are not meant to exclude any people that identify with the gender opposite to their physical one. It is asked that those using the facility be respectful and sensitive to the needs of others sharing their sleeping quarters. Since the bathroom units offer complete privacy to individuals, it was decided to remove the wall that divided the area into two rooms. Bathroom units also have a slimline waterproof storage area in the wall to hold clothing while a shower is being taken. Dressing rooms have privacy locks.

Sincerely,

Dear Dr. Valkonan,

I'm writing to inform you that the West Side Old Market Urgent Care Center as well as the shelter is open. While we had planned for a late January opening, some events in the city made it necessary to open early in order to help our fellow citizens. Since construction and furnishing of the second floor were finished in the last few days, you have not seen the place fully finished. I hope that it meets with your approval. We were even able to include a classroom for refresher course for the staff as well as first aid and other classes for the general population. Attached is a layout diagram of the second floor courtesy of Harker & Hall Architecture Ltd.

Dr. Valkonan,

I am writing in regarding the Children's Day festivities for this year. The main event this year will be held at the Rhydin Observatory Complex and Botanical Garden. The plan is for a carnival/festival with food and craft booths. There are hopes for a special event associated with the planetarium. As was done last year, I would like to include the children in Riverview's pediatric unit.

If you have suggestions for appropriate activities for those children in quarantine or unable to leave Riverview during their treatment, please contact me at Harker's Academy. Transportation for those children able to leave the hospital for brief times will be provided by the RTS courtesy of Andu Kirost. Volunteers from Harker's and the MacLeod Foundation will be on hand to help those with mobility difficulties.

Sincerely,

Mairead E. Harker
