Spider Savaris

He stepped off of the carriage, offering a tip and a little more to its driver. The fresh snowfall had made his bike all but useless for traveling through the streets. He reminded himself for the eighth time since the season had started to get rivets set into his tires, though this was probably the eighth time he'd forget to do so. A good two inches had built up just outside the awning drafted over the ER's front enterance. It made certain that despite his kicking and shuffling moments, his ankles were soaked once he stepped inside.

"Good evening." The nurse appointed for the evening nodded to Spider as she shifted the handset from one shoulder to the other. "No Mr. Douglas, the test results were sent up just prior to closing time....well I'm sorry you didn't feel like doing overtime tonight, you'll just have to read them in the morning." The nurse hung up the line with a sigh, glancing up to the drow. "Don't tell me it's supposed to get worse out there, I've half an hour till my shift's up."

Spider absently tried to shake some more loose flakes off his jeans. "There's a reason the horses are getting their exercise tonight. Hasn't anyone even shoveled out the front lot yet?"

"Yeah, an hour ago..." The nurse sighed louder as the ringer went off again. "Looks to be a busy one tonight Dr. Savaris."

"I suppose so..." He trailed both his voice and his feet off to the locker room to change into something dry. His left wrist tilted up to check the time.

11:06 PM.

Something told him the minute hand would be moving slow tonight. He had just punched in and it wasn't already going faster.

Phaelirra

Perched on the awning outside the emergency room was a raven. Squat and fat, feathers fluffed up against the snow's drive, it made no noise as the male passed below him. As the doors closed, it uttered a loud "quork!" and flew off into the night. Once Zav returned to the Temple, he'd be made much of, and his duty had been dispensed.

Within the Clinic proper, Phaelirra bent to her work in the staff lounge, a grumble of derision upon her lips for her lazy familiar. Hot pastries, both meat-filled and fruit-filled, didn't set themselves out, after all. A kettle of hot mulled cider perched on the counter, a pile of mugs set out beside it. There were a few other plates of cookies and biscuit-type snacks donated by the other females of the Temple, but it usually fell to Phaelirra herself to deliver them. It had been her idea, after all.

Dishes arrayed to her liking, the drow pushed her way out of the lounge and strode down to the emergency room to let the nurse know what was there for the taking. Though the sight of the snow outside simply left her speechless and looking much like a beached fish.

Strange how those surgical scrubs were the thinest articles of clothing he wore on a regular basis, yet they were three times as warmer than the snow-soaked garments he had walked in with. "Thank the gods for centralized heating..."

He arrived at the nurses' station to touch base on the first workload of the night, noticing Phaelirra already conversing with them. "Phae, what a surprise..." He spoke up. "I mean....not that you're here at all, the nurses pratically know you by name now. I mean it's a titch odd to find you still here, what with the weather we're having. Did it even start snowing before you left the temple?" He wasn't sure if the other drow was acclimatized to this weather. He knew damn well he wasn't, thin elven bones and all that.

"Doctor...." A nurse interrupted, handing him the first chart of the night. "Mother brought in her 5 year old son, complaining of stomach pains." Spider nodded and tucked the chart under one arm. "I'll see them in just a moment..." He turned back to Phae.

"Oh..." The drow shook her head and blinked. "It was snowing, but naut like this. It would figure, my familiar simply looked at it, watched it fall, and said nary a word about it..." She gave an irritated huff, and shrugged her shoulders.

"It hardly matters, I have had to walk through worse, unless you think you might be short handed here? I make no promises, but I can carry things and clean. The last thing I want is to make trouble." Especially when Phaelirra noted the nurse hand Spider what was clearly a patient dossier. There was a reason why people were here, after all.

"I will sit down and wait, do naut let your patients tarry overlong because of me!" The pink-eyed drowess waved her hands and turned, walking towards the waiting room to make good on her word.

"You're no trouble at all, Phae." Spider turned to the nurse who had handed him the dossier. "For the remainder of the time Phaelirra is here, she'll be assisting with caregiving duties. If anyone else comes in the foyer, have her help with notetaking, diagonstics, whatever is within her ability." With that, the male drow rounded the corner and down the hallway into exam room 117.

Inside, an older mother, somewhere in her 50s judging from the gray creeping along the edges of her curls, sat with a boy, his hands gingerly comforting his own abdomen. Once inside, Spider offered a hand to the mother. "Sorry for the wait, I'm Dr. Savaris. I've been hearing that your son's had some tummy troubles."

The mother nodded. "It started about an hour ago, he said. He was having a snack before bed....I tell him it's bad for his teeth and it keeps him awake at night, but that's not the point. He said his stomach started to hurt. He said it had been going on for 15 minutes when he came and told me."

"Mommy, it hurts!" The child whined. "I know darling, I'm just laying things out for the doctor.

"....laying things out?" Obviously the child was confounded by adult talk.

"She's giving me the 411 on you." Spider remarked to the child. A small smile crept into the boy's face. "We'll try to make your visit fast and painless....well, we'll try our best to not make it any more painful than it is already for you." He slipped in his stethoscope's earbuds and began his exploratory.
