Sivanna Cyredghymn

Date: 2009-05-09 01:51 EST
At sunrise, a certain relentless elven cleric was already making trips to and from the Great Hall, toting in various supplies and personally escorting in the d"cor deliverers. It was really an enlightening surprise just how much response the auction had earned. Though Sivanna had offered to front the bill for dishware and linen rentals, the kind folk at Boudreaux's and Sarrie's Swatches were adamant about refusing payment. The intermittent, albeit widespread generosity had positively floored Sivanna in the past month. Not only had she been overwhelmed with a copious amount of prizes to auction off, but citizens and civilians alike had donated their time, efforts, and attention to the project.

It was the day of, and she couldn't be more pleased.

Already, the Great Hall had been outfitted in formal d"cor. Round mahogany tables with matching, white velvet-cushioned chairs were situated all around the hall's spacious interior, and Sivanna and the Boudreaux deliverymen were in the process of dressing them in ironed, black and white linen tablecloths. Gossamer curtains of like colors hung from the apex of the ceiling and draped loosely toward the walls. An impromptu stage had been set up at the head of the hall itself— a black, carpeted platform complete with glass podium, mic, and ample space for decorative flowery. Mira would arrive soon with the flower arrangements. Sivanna would make a point of sending two of the beneficent deliverymen over to the office to ensure that her friend had all the help she needed. They had, after all, offered to aid in the cause in any way they could, and Sivanna couldn't exactly be in four places at once.

Hours became minutes, minutes seconds, and as the sun climbed higher into the sky, the hall's decorations came together splendidly. Fine glassware ranging anywhere from flutes to stubby scotch and shot glasses were organized rather ornately at each setting, in addition to a slew of fresh glasses to be kept behind the open bar. Sparse black and white matted balloon bouquets were tied intermittently to various surfaces around the place, leaving ample space for where her florist and special effects master would work their magic. And with regard to the latter, the magic wasn't going to be metaphorical.

The cleric took a deep breath as she stepped back to survey the fine work. A slender hand fished out her pewter timepiece distractedly. Mira and Neo would be there any minute to set up the flora and special effects. Until they arrived, Sivanna would occupy herself by setting up the various candle arrangements on the tables along with small, black oval favors at each place setting. The elfess had put in a special order to Teas "n" Tomes for individual dark chocolate truffles that each guest could take home— a personal thank-you for the auction-goers. As she set the individually-wrapped chocolates out, however, Siv couldn't help thinking the sentiment was trite. Maybe a handwritten thank-you would be in order after the auction as well.

Voices outside were music to her ears. Whoever it was, Sivanna was glad to have something else to do.

Mira Cigargirl

Date: 2009-05-09 03:59 EST
Mira arrived pulling a wagon behind her, walking backward with only an occasional over her shoulder to see where she was going while keeping a careful eye on the arrangements, oversized vases and buckets of flowers. In her other hand she balanced a drink holder with three large Styrofoam cups. Two were filled with coffee just as promised, the third with chai tea, just in case Sivanna didn't like coffee. She had a cheerful greeting for everyone she met on her way in and a warm thank you for the liveried man holding the door open for her. She paused for a look around as soon as she had maneuvered the wagon into the hall. She half expected to find Sivanna asleep in a chair somewhere but found Sivanna looking busy and not the least bit sleepy looking. "Good morning Sivanna. I bring coffee and sweet rolls. This looks stunning and ever so much more elegant than I imagined." She leaned the handle against the cart and reached the bag of rolls from the cart. "Where would you like for me to set breakfast' A little nourishment will go a long way toward not having you collapse during the auction." She set the cups and sweet rolls where indicated and after a couple of sips from her cup she started taking the table flower arrangements from the wagon and set them on the tables. She had arranged black baby roses, white dwarven lilies, and lilacs in low white bowls and red and white orchid, hydrangea and burgundy berries in low black bowls and kept the arrangements low enough so they would not impede the view of anyone. The oversized white floor vases she had found would continue the theme on the black carpeted stage. Once Mira had the vases strategically placed it was time to fill the vases with the prepared with small lights attached to flower wire flower wire hydragenea, lilac and burgundy berries. Only after she was happy with the arrangements in both vases did she turn on the lights to let Sivanna see the effect. The coffee and sweet rolls were long gone by the time she got to the last two arrangements, another surprise for Sivanna Mira hoped. She lifted the two black column like pedestals from the wagon one at a time and set them to either side of the entrance. Once they were in place she excused herself to fetch the toppers and to return the now empty cart. Mira returned not too many minutes later carrying a flower arrangement in large but low white bowl. Only the multitude white lilies among black baby roses and red orchid had the hidden lights within them. One of the arena lads she had asked to help carried an identical bowl. Each set their bowl on one of the pedestals. After she had thanked the lad for his assistance and after he had left Mira went to find Sivanna again to show her the last delivery.

Neo Eternity

Date: 2009-05-09 16:49 EST
Neo ventured into the Great Hall during a low point of his shift working as city guard. He waved and smiled at everyone present, and then took a slow look around, absorbing everything that had been done so far. His job was special effects. Being the Keeper of Water, his would be water-based.

"This is awesome..." "I concur." The Ring of Klytus voiced its agreement out loud, its gem flashing softly with each syllable. Talking out loud was a peculiar behavior that it had started just recently; up until then, it had only communicated with Neo in his thoughts. "Alright, let's do this." He cracked his knuckles while taking another look around.

First up on the list was the columns throughout the room. He already showed Sivanna what he planned to do with them, as a proof-of-concept. He pointed his hands out toward the columns. Pillars of water rose up around them. The water would then continue to slowly rise, perpetually. At the top of the column, it would be instantaneously, stealthily transported back to the bottom so that it could restart its trip. Now for the next step. Small ice crystals started to slowly spiral upwards around each of the columns. Like the water, they would return to the bottom once they reached the top. He finished off the effect by creating lights at the bottom of each column, that glowed upwards, up the length of the column, gently illuminating it and the crystals. He'd spent last night studying magical light effects for this.

He simply stood there and watched for a while, making sure there weren't any errors or bugs in his spell. He walked over to one of them and stuck his hand through it. It felt cool, but not too cool. The ice crystals his hand would be blocking off simply vaporized and re-appeared on the other side of his hand, continuing on their way. Good, it works as expected. What next' He stroked his chin as he looked around a bit. The podium caught his eye, and he walked over to it.

He examined the glass podium. Maybe he could fill it with water" It had to be hollow. It'd be incredibly difficult to transport if it weren't. If he only filled it with water, though, it would be boring. What else could he do to make it more interesting, but not distracting" Ooh, an idea! He filled the podium up with water, and then an innumerable amount of tiny ice crystals, almost as small as glitter. And then at the bottom of the podium, he created a gentle white light that would glow upwards, illuminating the water and the crystals, like a lava lamp. The effect worked out quite nicely.

Was there anything else he could do' He looked around a bit, stroking his chin. There were a few blank areas on the walls. What could he do to spice them up" He's no artist, so it'd have to be something simple. Ooh, another idea! He points his hands at each one, creating small, slow waterfalls over them that functioned much like the column decorations. And like the other two, he added a bunch of tiny ice crystals. Unlike the columns, where they spiraled up uniformly, the ice crystals would appear in random locations in the waterfalls as they slowly glided down. When they moved back to the top, they'd start from a different location. He created light at the bottom here too, much like the columns. He tested it the same way, and it worked the same way.

He stepped back and took a look at all of it. "I must say, I am rather impressed." "Are you complimenting me, Ring?" He smirked as he looked down at the Ring of Klytus on his finger. "Do not make me regret it, you halfwit." Its snarky yet distinguished tone returned. "Yeah, fine. I can count on you to help me hold these spells, right?" "Of course. It is what we agreed on, is it not?" "Excellent. Thanks a ton, Ring." He grinned at it. "It is nothing." Its response was simply to flash as it usally does when it talks.

He then headed for the exit, to meet up with Jin to get tuxedos. He waved and smiled to all those present on his way out.

Aja looked around for Sivanna carefully as she walked into the Great Hall. Then she stopped in wonder of the water features she saw going. "Whoa." she said breathlessly as a worker scurried by. "A young man just came and did that." "Neo." Aja smiled. He was an amazing person both in heart and talents. All her friends were when she thought about it. She shook herself from the thoughts and caught up with the worker. "Hey buddy, what can I do to help?" "Well, there's more chairs to set up." the man pointed over to the stack. "Excellent." she smiled. "Just show me where to put em, and I'll get 'er done." "Miss, I can .." "No no." Aja grinned. "There's plenty to do I imagine. So just get me going and then ya can get to the rest." the man smiled at her and started off towards the stack of chairs. "Oh. and if you can give me a heads up if Miss Sivanna wanders this way, so I can hide all quick, that would be great." "Why don't you want her to know you're here?" "Eh...just want to help all quiet like." she sent the man a wink. "Sivanna's got enough going on, but her good manners would dictate taking time out to say something, and I don't want to be a bother today." Aja smiled as the man chuckled. "Ok, Miss." "Just call me Aja." she smiled and started setting the chairs in their rightful places. In between she helped out the Boudreaux deliverymen with tiny stuff. Making it look pretty was someone else's gig, but she could help get it there. Aja's ear's picked up the sound of her friends voice and she smiled. "Time to exit stage left." she quickly slipped out the door before she was spotted, grinning as she headed back to her house to shower and grab her dress.

(Lost To Time)

Guillermus Iulius Fortis, co-proprietor of Cucina Marthae, had been working feverishly in the kitchen since the start of daylight. After all, just because he was doing the catering for the big event did not mean he was going to be derelict in his duties for the community " and he was doing it without his right-hand man' er, elfess. Oh, what he would have given for a few extra hands today.

He finished up what needed to be done for the gala ahead of time by about midway through the Twelfth Hour, which is when the elven Cleric arrived at the kitchen. He asked how the preparations for the event were coming, being extremely careful NOT to use the word "auction' around her " doing so would surely send her even more into a tizzy. The Cleric and the chef loaded a pair of portable temperature-control boxes into a four-wheeled covered cart " one for the hot foods, one for the cold foods, as well as a metric excrement-load of chafing dishes. Guill then took his seat at the front of the cart and had Sivanna steady the hot boxes in the back seat. Pedal power would take them to the Great Hall in a matter of minutes.

At the Great Hall, Guill would finish up what little setup he had left, and started plating up the individual hors d?"uvre in the chafing dishes. The Chef had contributed a total of fifteen hors d?"uvre.

First, a quartet of dishes featuring different forms of meat: pork, venison, apple, mushroom, and bleu cheese miniature cheeseburgers, served on miniature potato rolls; shots of a sweet onion, beef, and beet root soup, topped with a dollop of sour cream; fried chicken "lollipops", made from chicken wing drumettes, and coated with a teriyaki glaze; and prosciutto wrapped around black mission figs and bleu cheese.

Second, a foursome of dishes featuring seafood: perfectly-seared slices of tuna, on a bed of hummus, resting on crostini; crimini mushrooms stuffed with a crabmeat and cream cheese mixture, with a hint of garlic; buckwheat blini topped with cr"me fra"che and Sevruga malassol caviar; and star anise-rubbed grilled shrimp served with a Ponzu sauce.

Third, a quartet of vegetarian dishes: shots of cold, Spanish-style gazpacho; bruschetta topped with fresh pesto, grilled bell peppers, and grilled squash; asparagus shoots and Brie cheese wrapped in phyllo dough; and Parmesan cheese tartlets topped with English peas and nutmeg.

Finally, a trio of desserts: bruschetta topped with a mixture of apples, almonds, cinnamon, ginger, and sweet wine; globuli (orbs of ricotta cheese and semolina, fried in olive oil, and coated in honey); and dark chocolate cookies with just a hint of chipotle pepper.

Maranya Valkonan

The Chief of Staff at Riverview Clinic alighted from her carriage with the able assistance of her carriage man, the faithful Ernesto. She nodded her thanks, and drew her black silk velvet cloak a bit tighter about herself to guard against a sudden chill that she felt, both from within and without. Then, mindful of her white silk chiffon dress, she gracefully strode for the Great Hall's entrance, and stepped inside.

Maranya's emerald and platinum ringed left hand flew to her mouth in delighted shock when she saw the beautiful decorations that adorned the hall. The subtle perfume of the floral arrangements tickled her nose delightfully. Her hazel eyes widened in amazement at Neo's magical water displays. Then her eyes began to well with unshed tears when she inhaled the delicious aromas that came from the hors d??uvre display, most notably the unmistakable one of borsh'.

So many people have helped to make this night a success. By the Beyond, I can never thank them enough.

She blinked her eyes a few times to keep the sting of tears at bay, and looked around for a way to help somehow in the final preparations.

Tormay Eludes

Tormay slipped in quietly, staying off to the side as the finishing touches were being put up. He wanted to be ready for tonight so he wouldn't be surprised or distracted while he was running the show.

"Jeez, they went all out tonight," he breathed to himself. With a grin Tormay ducked back out before anyone spotted him. Time to get dressed and time his appearance.

Sivanna Cyredghymn

Date: 2009-05-10 17:58 EST
"Oh! No, no! The bowls go back to Mira."

Sivanna touched one of the Boudreaux's employees gently on the arm with a smile, gesturing toward a wagon that had been brought in for her favorite florist. The rugged, bored-looking strawberry-blond shuffled the two orchid arrangements feebly in his grip as he attempted to shrug a response.

"Here. Let me take them," the cleric pressed kindly, looping her arms gently around the bowls. "I think the others still need some help wrapping the dishware." Words didn't seem to be the man's strongest suit, for he merely shrugged again and forfeit the items. The elfess turned on her heel and made a beeline for the cart, setting the arrangements down gently. Her lips curved downward in a frown as she noted the first signs of wilting. Perhaps Mira could nurse them back to health; It seemed an awful shame for so beautiful a thing to die so quickly. What was that saying" "The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long." It shouldn't be so. The orchids served so divine a purpose that previous, magical evening.

Steel-colored irises flitted to numb fingertips in hesitation. Maybe she could give them a jump. Wake them up a little. The cleric drew in a deep breath.

"Miss Sivanna" What do you want us to do with the rest of these chafing dishes?"

Drat. Perhaps the distraction was for the best. Perhaps she didn't want to know.

"The chef will be by to pick them up?" Sivanna began clearly, casting a tentative glance to her pewter timepiece, ?" actually any minute now. Just set them on the bar. Gently!" she added in sharply in haste, as a man—whose head seemed disproportionately small compared to his neck—was about to pick up one of the oblong, roll-top pieces by its leg. To her insistence, the volunteer rolled his eyes. The cleric smiled apologetically, though, and that earned a blush and a bashful grin in response.

By mid-afternoon, there were only a handful of volunteers from Sarrie's left. The stage had been deconstructed, its pieces returned to the back. The tables had all been reset, chairs stacked along the walls of the hall's interior to await the next event. Balloon bouquets were unwillingly taken down, though Sivanna got a kick out of seeing thirty-year-old men chase each other around to pop the party supplies under their coworkers" clothes. The cleric had even personally ensured that the sound equipment was organized, labeled, and tightly wound before being stowed away behind the bar. She fell back a few steps near the spacious entryway of the hall itself to have a better look around.

It looked so' empty.

"Not all that great without all those special effects, eh?" the owner of Boudreax's— a poker-faced, seasoned fellow with a heart of gold— moved up behind the cleric and patted her gently between the shoulder blades.

"It was really an improvement. I think our effects master should consider interior decorating as a profession," she grinned. The white-haired storeowner chuckled amicably.

"Anything else you need us for, Miss Sivanna?"

A shake of her head, and the elfess was wearing the most ardently beholden smile known to man.

"That is all. I'll do the totals and make the deliveries myself. Thank you, Eugene. You all have been so extraordinarily kind. Is there anything I can ever do to repay you?" The man bent forward to plant a chaste kiss on the cleric's cheek.

"Just brighten my shop with that lovely smile of yours once in a while. I don't see it nearly enough." Sivanna beamed and repaid the kiss, offering him a fervent, affirmative nod in response. She couldn't risk speaking again, for fear her voice might crack. Ever since eight-thirty the previous evening had revealed the overwhelming support for the clinic, and the abject generosity and altruism thriving in the community, the cleric had been on the brink of tears. She heard Eugene begin a lazy stroll toward the exit before he spoke.

"Give the good doctor my congratulations, Miss Sivanna. And get some rest. You look like you could do with a good night's sleep." The creaking of the closing door reverberated off the bare walls of the hall.

She really wished people would stop saying that.

Shaking her head with a smile, Sivanna snatched her clipboard off the bartop and made for the back door, hooking her wrist around the handle to the full flower wagon so that it would roll along behind her. Once she dropped off the bouquets, she would start making rounds of the city, ensuring that every winner had their prizes and was satisfied, and so that she could pay them a personal thanks. Hip-checking the mahogany ingress, she glanced over her shoulder.

"I'll see you again very soon, for the next event!? she murmured, her words nearly lost in the expanse of the chamber.

And she was sure of it.

The package was addressed to Dr. Maranya Valkonan at the Riverview Clinic, and would arrive on Monday morning. Clearly marked with "DO NOT BEND," the large envelope contained a folder including a selection of one hundred of Cara's favorite photos from the auction. The photos were organized into different sets, including photos of the room itself, posed group photos, and candids throughout the event.

Also enclosed was a brief note from Cara:

Dr. Valkonan,

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with you on your recent (and successful!) charity auction and gala. Enclosed please find a selection of photos I think best represent the event overall. The data chip contains an additional two hundred photos for you to enjoy.

If you need any assistance submitting a photo to the appropriate media outlets, please let me know and I'd be happy to oblige. Photo credit should be attributed to Cara Ann Parker.

I look forward to working with you again in the future.

Sincerely, Cara Ann Parker The data chip was held in a plastic pouch safely clipped inside the folder. Also enclosed was an invoice representing the remainder of her fee less the advance, and indicating a room at the Red Dragon Inn for remittance.

The photo Cara had placed on top of the set was a lighthearted candid shot of the doctor with Sivanna and Aja, laughing together, their faces aglow.
