The coach door swung shut as Madison leapt from the side seat of their getaway and carried herself in a hurry for the back entrance to Riverview. Behind her in the three coaches sat someone she trusted keeping the kids at ease. Some were still shaken, and righfully so...Renauldt reached out to bring back one of the younger ones from the window, raking the curtain across to keep all faces hidden. Check did the same two coaches down, and L the last.

Madison was still aware of the time and that the ride over here had taken a bit longer than anticipated. She had called out to each hired driver to keep the horses at an even keel and slow, because although Rhy'Din was used to its sights, three stagecoaches racing through town wasn't going the way of low key.

However, they were here now and that's what she focused on. If anything was to go backwards, Check had one of her small pistols and Renauldt had his own deck of cards up his sleeves.

Exhaling nerves, she pressed through a set of doors and headed up the shiny floor of a trolley bay, until coming upon a side desk. She called out to the empty glass enclosure, her voice urgent. Glancing back out the way she had come, she tapped her fingers along the desk nervously, and returned her eyes. Blues never looking so worried.

The Hiding would need to be thoroughly examined, each and everyone of them, for fleas, ticks, and any signs of physical inadequacy. Madison while concerned for their nutrition had grown more and more anxious to know they were ok otherwise. She knew it was ambitious, but she needed the assurance these kids were alright. Apart from their mental states, she was looking to their general health and beyond; as Jessamine had been assaulted for some time and eventually killed by the now very dead member of the Orpheum, the 'slinger was wanting to make sure none of the others had suffered the same as her.

Singing out again, the tapping of fingers on the desk became more and more frantic, until palms flattened and she rested a hand on either hip, hoping that this wild chance she was taking on Dr. Valkonan was going to be received. Madi had done her research, but in situations like this it was sometimes much easier for a Doctor to deny, this she understood. She had two dozen urchins with her, it was a lot to ask, but someone had to do this. They couldn't themselves.

Back in her surgical scrubs, emerald green today, Maranya Valkonan felt on top of her world while she strode through the halls of Riverview Clinic to survey her domain like the lords of old did their land holdings. The sights, the sounds, the smells, all of it, were as much a part of her as her own heartbeat. By the Beyond, it feels good to be home again.

She stopped by the empty side reception desk on the way back around from her great circle of rounds. The dark blond haired woman's maternal instincts, as well as her professional concern, collided within her, and made her next decision crystal clear in her mind while she regarded the group of scruffy, rag tag children that clustered in frightened groups around Madison.

"Come with me. We'll get them set up in treatment rooms, and I and my residents will examine them," the Good Doctor declared as she carefully picked up one of the younger children, and rested the boy on her hip. "You're safe here, sweetheart," she whispered, and pressed a fond kiss to his grimy nose, before she nodded to Madison and the other children in turn. "You are all safe here. I promise this by my Oath. Let's go."

Then Maranya led the way to the bay of treatment rooms, and the help that could be found within for these lost children.

As Check, L and Charlie brought in the last of the young ones, Madison attended to one of the teenagers, a lanky boy named Jim who had been hard pressed to get a word out of since Jessamine had been murdered. They had been close and he held a lot of resentment at himself for not saving her, for not doing more. Frustration had made his mouth a permanent line, and Madison hated to see that look on his young, thin face.

"Jim, this is Dr. Valkonan, she will be looking after all those itches you've got on your arm. You'll be able to sleep soundly, doesn't that sound good?".

Jim nodded stubbornly and looked over to the Doctor, his brown eyes sore. He didn't believe anyone or anything could be good now. It was going to take a lot to restore his faith in people. But he turned back and forced a smile to Madison, crouched before him with those kind blue eyes. He kind of trusted her, he wanted to. He really did. "Thanks", was all he managed, and that was enough for Madison, who smiled and ushered him through with the others, flashing a warm, encouraging smile to her boys who were standing in a solemn line to the side.

"I'll be back out soon guys. Go get yourselves a coffee or something, I'm going to chat with the Doc".

Charlie gestured to his two companions, and the three of them headed off to a machine just down the hall. Madison turned and looked to the Doctor, who was in her element with the children, affectionate and straight forward. It made her smile grow.

"Thank you Doctor. Ill give you some background once the kids are settled. I'm really sorry to do this, but there was no other way. I hope this will be alright. I'll help however I can". She exhaled and removed her hat. "I just want to make sure they're healthy. Once that part is covered they will be out of your way immediately".

She passed the Doctor into a treatment room, to pick up one of the smallest kids, Mandie, and give her a hug. Fat tears were rolling down her face. Madison smoothed a hand down her back, patting it, and cooing. This was going to take a while.

Maranya paused in her examination of the boy, who presented as suffering primarily from pellagra, impetigo and periodontal disease, and looked over her shoulder at Madison with her comments. She parsed them out after a few moments of contemplation, and started to answer, but, by that time, Madison had already left her presence.

Leaving the boy to be bathed and attended to by a nurse, she stepped out of the treatment room, and, after a look around, headed for the children's blue eyed savior. Indicating an open treatment room, she gestured for the young woman to follow her inside.

Once they were out of common earshot, the Good Doctor turned her attention to Madison. "I want to make a few things clear from the outset, Madison. First of all, children, be they in need or not, are never in the way, not to me, not to this Clinic. You brought them to me, and I will make sure that they all get the help that they need, for as long as they need it. Second, as to the matter of helping me?."

She held up her left hand, which bore an emerald and diamond ring, in a halting gesture against interruptions. "If by that you mean payment, we can work out the details later. But I will assure you right here and now that none of these children that you have brought to me will lack for anything in the way of quality medical treatment, whether you pay me for my services or not."

Maranya's lips pursed as she considered her next words. "Lastly, I need to know if I should alert Security to any potential problems, in order to protect my patients. And by patients I mean all the ones here, in this Clinic." Her left hand gestured broadly toward the treatment bays, and, by extension, the whole Clinic.

As she sat herself down, regarding the doctor, she shrugged from her jacket to drape it across her knees. She felt tight all over as the anxiousness was peaking, soon to wane. She nodded affirmatively to Maranya as she proceeded with her statements, before crossing her legs and sitting forward, her eyes steady.

"Dr. Valkonan, I made sure that this exercise was done quietly. My men and I have taken every precaution we physically could to ensure the safety and security of not only the kids, but the Clinic. That was always a concern. But from the outset, as to why I've done this, yes, there is danger but I'm...dealing with this". Hesitation in her reluctance to expound upon the matters. But the Doctor needed answers.

"Basically, these kids have been at the hands of a criminal. He was known in town for some time, operating ostensibly as a set designer for the Orpheum, an underground artists gathering in West End. Recently, he was found dead. This, in the wake, of a murder he committed."

"There is a vigilante out there who has been operating like me, but I believe they are of no harm to you, your staff, the kids or myself", Madison added, to elucidate on the fact that while yes this vigilante had killed Henry, it was an act of civilian justice, and not as a part of the spate of murders lately; just a bloody coincidence.

"My concern, mostly, rests with the Orpheum and anyone there who knew what was going on with these kids and who may have contributed to the murder of Jessamine, as well as the other unsavoury ....business goings on in town that this Theatre breeds. Members of what are little more than a gang are the problem, and it is them that I am targeting. As for the children, however..".

She exhaled and rested elbows to knees, chewing on her lip. "I'm worried that the convicted deceased may have harmed more than just the victim we know. I was hoping once their physicals had been passed we could speak to a therapist and encourage some background on what happened, because most of those kids were very close to Jessamine, the dead girl, and chances are the murderer knew them and may have had relations with them too".

There. She had said it. It was a dreadful relief.

She stood and paced over to one wall, and then back, blues returning to Maranya soberly. "And by help you, I meant assist you with the children, with your colleagues. I just want to make this process as streamlined as possible. I don't doubt your methods, Doctor, hardly, you are of brilliant repute, but I have twenty four children who can go from silent to feral in a heartbeat if spooked, and I want to be here for them and you when that happens". The gravity of her care stunned even herself. She barely knew these little souls.

"So, let me know what it is I can do. Shall I introduce you to a few of them, and my men?"

A broad smile to Maranya, as she retrieved her jacket from the chair.

"Oh. And as for payment", as she opened the door, "Just say when."

The Good Doctor nodded thoughtfully while Madison spoke her piece. "I am glad that you took the steps you did. I will still alert Security, as a precautionary measure. It never hurts to be prepared, after all."

Her hazels widened at first, then narrowed in barely restrained anger when the young woman continued on, and related the possibility of certain unspeakable atrocities being committed on those young bodies.

By the Beyond, those responsible best never cross my path. Threefold Rule or not, I will make damned sure they pay dearly for the harm done to these innocents.

Maranya looked away, to focus on the far wall. She took slow, deep breaths to calm the rising urge to go against the Oaths she swore to and to do harm to those responsible.

After a few moments, she forced the fury back down into the dark corners of her mind, and turned her attention back to the young woman. This time, Maranya's nod was decisive. "We have therapists on staff, but I agree that someone familiar to the children may well help to ease their transition into treatment. I want to cause as little trauma as possible, so I appreciate your help all around with them, Madison."

The Good Doctor studied Madison's kinesics while she paced to the other side of the room, and noted in turns restrained anger, frustration and a determination to help these children that rivaled her own.

"Please. I want to get to know the children better, as well as those who have helped you bring them to me for help." She gestured to the door with her right emerald and diamond ringed hand. "Again, payment for services is not a concern of mine. Those children are."

As are you, Madison. They are not the only innocent ones who have been affected by this trauma, I'd wager.

Mention of therapy readily available turned that smile on full. She stepped aside to follow the Doc instead of the other way around; this was Maranya's court, and she respected that. As they turned a corner in the gleaming hall she whistled sharply, having her Three turn their faces towards them and begin walking up, cardboard coffee cups in hand.

"Maranya, this is Check, L and the fabulous Charlie Renauldt. He owns and runs Zeals, in West End, but has helped out some of the older kids over the years, who have been in a similar situation as the kids we've got here today. The boys will always be at your beck and call, I'll give you a number for contact before I go".

She moved into the small room, looking across the kids. She introduced Maranya to them, and vice versa, her voice melodic. Some of the children waved, the older ones barely nodding. Jim kept looking at the floor. Madison frowned.

"That there's Jim. I think he's one of the first ones we should hand over into the care of a therapist. Maybe you could see otherwise, but in my short experience with him I've found him disconsolate, morose almost constantly. He was very close to the young girl that died, Jessamine, who was one of these kids. I'll tell you about that in depth later." Fingertips clicked to Check who stepped through and handed a few small bags of chips amongst the group, before stepping back out and heading outside, followed by the other two men.

"Doctor, is there anything else?"

Seeing the kids relaxed some, she glanced to them, then back outside. "I need to go back to their nest and grab some of their belongings now that they themselves are safe and sound."

Maranya nodded in turn to each of the men that she was introduced to. She memorized their names and other pertinent details in her mental Rolodex. "A pleasure to meet you gentlemen." Then she nodded in acknowledgment to Madison. "Excellent. That would be greatly appreciated."

Her eyes blinked rapidly a few times to forestall the tears that wanted to spill forth when she regarded the group of children and youths who had been rescued.

Such bright lights, such treasures. Only someone thoroughly decompensated could contemplate harming these innocents.

Maranya then watched Jim's kinesics with a pensive purse of her lips. "Mm, definitely. Jim will be the first to be assigned a therapist. They all will benefit from time with a therapist, though, once they are all settled in safe and secure."

Once again, she looked away, and forced the darker thoughts of revenge against those who put those poor children and youths in this situation in the first place back to the recesses of her mind. For a moment, however, those thoughts were clearly visible in the set of her clenched jaw and the flash of anger in her hazel eyed gaze.

She took a few deep breaths to center her emotions properly before she returned her attention to their savior and responded to her query, "I will appreciate the additional information about them that you can provide to me when you return with their belongings. That will help us help them." She nodded thoughtfully. "Familiar items will also ease their transition, and give them a sense of comfort."

The Good Doctor's left emerald and diamond ringed hand reached out in a gesture of comfort to rest upon Madison's shoulder. "I will look after them now," she declared in a reassuring tone of voice.

A week and a half later, Check L and Charlie escorted by Madison came bounding through the door each carrying various bags of differing colours and sizes and weight. The bags were dropped to the side of the corridor out of the way, each member of the foursome giving a chuckle as they regained their postures and looked down towards the main desk. "Those kids really do carry their lives with em!", chimed L leaving the others to just laugh further, mostly at him.

There was a sense of jubilation and triumph amongst the group at Maranya's eagerness to help and that the effort had worked in getting the kids here. It was by no means a massive win as there were hundreds of raggamuffins all over West End without shelters food or affection, but it was a beginning, and Sal's exclaimation, even though in anger, at suggesting Madison open a house for the kids was not something that was lost on her and the notion had tumbled around her head for days after.

It was something she would put to the Doc, and hopefully Kacilla if they ever did meet, as a combined facilitation for kids in need in Rhy'Din, all over, not just in the bad side.

As the boys walked over to get some coffees, Madison strolled over to peek through the glass of a treatment room, smiling brilliantly, tenderly, as the first kid she spied was Jim, who immediately jumped up and headed over to the glass to pull a funny face at her, and wave wildly. The 'slinger was taken aback by the improvement in his appearance, less grey and yellow now and the liveliness in his big eyes.

Looking back to the room, to some of those other once so lost faces, she felt her chest heave as she held her breath. This had to be one of the best scenes she had witnessed.

No blood had been drawn to get here, and that was what made her smile as much as seeing some hope in fruition for these youngsters.
