As a former candidate for the Office of Governor, allow me to put in my opinion on the matter of free ale nights.
I am opposed to such a motion. First, it is not economically sound to promote an "all you can drink" evening. The Inn would most likely end up losing money and the cost of supplies would overshadow the actual revenue brought in by any other sales.
Secondly, an "all you can drink" evening would cause patrons who are more free with consumption to drink beyond reason, and therefore could cause significant troubles for those around them. There's much potential for innocents on streets to be harmed by those riding their horses drunkenly. I know of a man who was so drunk he rode his horse through a store window, causes severe lacerations to himself, his horse, and a few passersby who were browsing.
It is, therefore, more logical to instead hold a period of time, such as a "Happy Hour" where drinks may be served at severely reduced prices.
That would control the amount of alcohol imbibed while not having the Inn take a terrible loss of revenue compared to consumption.
