The Chicken Avenger sat at Kitty's desk going through the mail. Normally this was Erin's job but there was a lull between budget meetings and an appointment with the head of the Rhydin Asylum to discuss the new "Orphans Alley" project.

The Chicken used the rapier from his Zorro costume, one of the few things it kept from its days in the forsaken blades to open yet another envelope. Inside was a really sweet get well card from the orphans. It was hand drawn and rough but the sentiment was clear, if the imagery a bit violent. The drawing portrayed Kitty with a cast on her arm a bandaged head and a dagger in her heart, And in Childish writing scribbled "Miss Kitty We is sorrys you is nut fellin well. Get better quicks." It was signed by at least twenty children.

"ERIN!!! GET IN HERE WE HAVE WORK TO DO!" The card gave the Chicken and Idea and it was a big one. But the Chicken was going to need some help with this one.

Erin hurried into the office, a clipboard still in her hands. The time she was spending here and at the store was taking up more and more and more of her days.

"I'm here, I'm here!"

She actually saluted the chicken when she got into the room.

"What is it' Did I mess soemthing up? I know I haven't been here as much as I should....but....I'm trying, really...." A pause and a blink as she spotted the card.

"That's sweet.....I think." A crinkle of that adorable nose. She was already distracted from Chicken.

"Erin I need you to order me some supplies. I need seventy four sheets of plywood some iron scaffolding, two sets, a chain saw, thirty one gallons of paint, eleven white and the rest assorted colors. Paint brushes and rollers, and twelve or thirteen orphans to use as cheap labor."

The chicken rattled off the list of supplies then looked up at Erin "Did you get all that?"

Erin was scribbling on the pad she came into the room with as the Chicken listed off the supplies. With each item she wrote her nose crinkled more and more and more until it seemed her nose would retreat up into her head.

"Yes, Sir!" A pause as she looked up at him over her reading glasses. "May I ask what this is all for....?" She gave him a weak smile, just a little concerned about the plan. "And why we need to exploit the orphans?"

A sweet smile as she hugged the legal pad to her chest, right hand clutching the pen. She was prepared to wince— or run.

"We aren't exploiting the orphans. I fully intend to pay them. What do you take me for some sort of monster" Also see about getting a temporary construction permit for erecting a structure outside Kitty's bedroom window in the bloods house..."

The chicken had delivered its instructions and had turned its attention to scribbling plans on Kitty's desktop calendar, and rescheduling appointments for the week. There was nothing there that could not wait.

"Well Why are you still standing there" Get hopping woman we haven't got much time!"

Erin hopped to attention and nodded at the chicken. She scrambled out of the room and into her office, closing the door behind her.

Getting materials was easy enough. Orphans even easier. But the building permit! Egads! Those people in the development office sure were sticklers. Erin was on the phone with the commissioner for three hours.

"No...no.....I'm not sure....it won't be an eyesoar! No, no, no— we aren't blowing anything up. Yes, yes of course it will be safe. Comissioner." A long pause. "No! What do you take me for?!"

Erin slammed a small hand down on the desk. "Please, comissioner!" Whatever Chicken had planned better be worth all this....."No, no, no! Look, I promise you. On my good name. If anything terrible happens you can hold me personally responsible."

A long, long pause.

"Thank you! Of course the Bloods are fine with this! Oh, we're really close." She winced a little at the lie. "Great!" Erin placed the phone back on the reciever and stuck her head into the hallway.

"Chicken! I got it!"

"Excellent, you do splendid work Erin, now come take a look at these drawings and tell me what you think."

The chicken had produced a laptop computer from who knows where while Erin was talking to the building comissioner, and the screen which he turned to the assistant now displayed a detailed schematic for a complex bill board like structure entirely supported by the scaffolding. Throughout the face of the board were openings with little platforms where people could stand.

The label on the whole project read " Worlds biggest get well card for Kitty"

Erin leeeeeeeeaned forward and peered at the plan. Hm. A slow nod as she looked, head tilted. Then another slow nod.

"This looks wonderful." A smile as she turned her head up to the Chicken.

"One problem, though— can you build things?" Cause Erin sure as hell couldn't!

"I'm a twelve inch tall rubber chicken Erin, what do you think" Thats what the orphans are for, Unless you know any men who would like to pitch in for nothing" We've pretty much shot the frivolous gestures of sympathy budget on this already and we can't really afford to pay anyone"

The chicken leaned back in Kitty's chair and looked up at Erin "I'd like to start construction tomorrow."

Construction on the get well card for Kitty, now dubbed "Project Really Big Sign" Started on schedule the next day. Several of the older orphans were joined by the night janitor and Chris's intern. The chicken informed the pair that it was an official budget meeting and just sort of put hammers into their hands when the arrived and pointed them to the stack of lumber.

It took a few hours to get things sorted out, but soon everything was under way and the wall was being built on the property adjacent the bollds compound and Kitty's window. It turns out Chris's intern was a pretty dab hand with a chainsaw and a nail gun, and the little platforms in the face of the sign were taking shape nicely. A fresh coat of white paint was being applied to the structure even as the top layer of plywood was being attached to the top level of the scaffolding.

The chicken, complete with little white hard hat and a clipboard supervised the construction with Erin by his side. " I think its going well don't you? The next phase will be the tricky bit. We need people to come and sign the card. You dear are in charge of publicity. I don't care how you get them here just get people here."

"I will see to it!" Erin saluted the Chicken as she watched Construction. With a taptaptap of her pen to her chin she thought just how she was going to get the masses out here.

And then she figured it out.

"I got it! I'll be back! make sure the orphans keep on schedule!"

With a bit of a chuckle, Erin slid from the area and off to write up a little something for the Oracle!
