FioHelston Security was redoubled tonight. Such a posting of guards and checkpoints had not been seen in Town Hall since the RBF outbreak. Guards stationed at the doors downstairs checked IDs before allowing people upstairs to the second set posted at the conference room door.

Caroline Granger A last minute change of venue, and Caroline still managed to be on time, really quite proud of herself for managing it. She was definitely looking the worse for wear, though; pregnancy seemed to be catching up to her finally as she entered that last trimester. Tired and obviously dealing with ever-present backache, she presented her ID to the security on the door and let herself in, making a beeline for the coffee.

FioHelston From inside the room, the smell of coffee and a limited but hot array of food was set out on a credenza for them. It had been a long day. Fionna was inside already, flanked by a scribe and some sort of legal advisor standing in one corner and looking like he wanted to be anywhere else.

Gwen Minx She blinked at the man asking for her ID, puffing up a bit, this making her look five foot FIVE inches tall. "I am Gwen Minx. No one else would dare impersonate me!" Really no one could probably duplicate her brand of crazy. The guard asked again politely for ID and she drew out the citizen card she got a month or so after arriving at Rhy'din and nearly shoved it up his nose. Another huff and she was past him and looking around. "SQUIRE!" Because Apple was supposed to meet her here she just

Alain DeMuer ::They won't let Sir Malcolm in. He's armed to the teeth, and the vicious scars on his throat aren't helping his case - but Alain sends him back to the Lodge with a quiet command and proceeds upstairs alone. Pausing in the doorway to light a cigarette. He maybe gets two drags in before he sees Caroline, twists his lips and pinches the smouldering end between his fingertips. He heads for the coffee instead.::

Gwen Minx assumed shouting would make the woman appear like magic.

Rachael Douglas The scarred woman in black awaited the checks by security. Her Watch ID was presented, and -other- ID was held back for the Governor's verification only. Once she passed the security checkpoints, she stepped within the inner sanctum, and seated herself unobtrusively.

Rhiannon Brock ::Irony, the wrong Squire answers!:: Yes" ::Rhiannon came through the door after being cleared by security::

Caroline Granger A wince crossed her face at the sight of Alain pinching out his cigarette. "Sorry," she muttered guiltily. This evening's meeting wasn't exactly promising to be easy to sit through, after all.

Ebon Ilnaren ::he was standing by the credenza, sipping at some heavily-creamed coffee, and added more sugar as Alain came up; the man got a nod of greeting::

Alain DeMuer "Let me get that for you," ::Alain offers to Caroline, opening a hand towards the coffee pot and cups. There's a quiet chuckle at the apology.:: "It's not a problem....How do you take it?"

Gwen Minx Turns around and smiles, a slight shake of her head. "Not you, MY Squire. But HI!" Brightly to Rhiannon. She was dressed as if she expected to duel later this evening, dueling leathers that were comfortably wore, no weapons were apparent however.

Riley Lo Riley, who was on time for once, slipped inside the Town Hall, bittersweet memories outweighed by the fact that there was no frisking to be had. She pushed inside, glanced around the room and then took up a lean against the wall, quiet and watchful for the now.

Apple "I'm here, I'm heere..!" Rushing right on after. It seemed Rhiannon beat her, but it's all good. Apple huffed and puffed a bit trying to catch her breath. All that running..! And those platforms didn't help much either. At least she looked classy-enough. Wearing what looked to be a black dress suit and what not. Clutched within her arms had been all the note-taking tools she needed.

Rhiannon Brock ::She grinned:: Hi, Gwen. ::She then gave Apple a thumbs up and went find a seat:: Rhiannon Brock ::to find::

Apple Returns the thumbs up, along with a smile. "Ready to, like...take notes and stuff!" Salute at Gwen.

Ebon Ilnaren ::crossing to a seat, he greeted those present with smiles and nods::

Candy Hart Candy had spent some time looking over her ID before the meeting. Fake I.D.s had been her livelihood when she'd been tossed around from one school to the next. As the security squinted at he badge, she squinted back. Course, she had a reputation. They'd know her without the ID. Through one check point and then another. Candy skipped the coffee and food provided and headed for a seat.

Caroline Granger "Black, no sugar. Thank you." Her smile relaxed out of its guilty cast, her gaze wandering now to take in the others arriving or who had already arrived, wriggling her fingers in greeting to everyone, regardless of whether or not she actually knew them by more than reputation.

Gwen Minx "Good." Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers at her squire. "You look prepared, excellent. I'm going to practice sleeping with my eyes open so take good notes!" Pulling a bag out of a pocket....from somewhere and holding it out to Apple. "Went to the candy store, made up a bag for you too. Sugar is good for you."

Rachael Douglas Dip of raven haired head to the Governor and to Ebon.

Delahada The Governor had a stalker, who showed up late. So already he was doing a terrible job.

Apple "...Oh yes, yes it is." Nodding. Fingers, with fancy-looking done up nails, curled about that bag and took hold. "Thank you!" Serious nod after. "And, uh...yeah. I won't miss a thing!"

Gwen Minx "Candy, is not." With a point to the Baroness as she breezes by their position. "Let's go find a seat, yeah?" To Apple.

Alain DeMuer ::Alain fixes her a cup of coffee, sparing a nod to Ebon in return as his gaze sweeps back to Caroline. He gives her the first drink, and takes the second for himself - black, no sugar, like hers. Long sip.::

Riley Lo Riley's brow arched when she spotted Sal. What in the ninth level of Hell was he doing here"

Rachael Douglas Shielded sapphires flicked around the room. Dip of raven haired head to the rest of the council members present.

FioHelston She watched them all come in, quiet and pensive. Her eyes did more than flicker toward the door when Sal slipped in. The poor lawyer in the corner actually shrank back into the wall when he arrived.

Candy Hart Twitch of a smirk at Gwen's comment. She gave the baroness and squire a nod.

Delahada Bwuahahaha. He stopped to have an argument with the guards. Candy Hart Another short nod to Rachael.

Riley Lo Riley disguised a chuckle at the lawyer's reaction to the half-fae by turning her head to wink at Caroline.

Rhiannon Brock ::She got a glass of juice:: Ebon. ::She gave him a bright smile::

Caroline Granger Murmuring another thank you to the Baron DeMuer, Caroline curled her hands around her cup and made her way to the table, lowering herself down into a chair with an audible sigh of relief. A moment later, she'd shed her jacket and her shoes - might as well be comfortable. Riley's wink made her smile, another wriggle of fingertips offered over in greeting.

Ebon Ilnaren Hello, Rhi. ::his smile, though not so bright, was no less warm::

Delahada He had an ID on him somewhere. Honest.

Apple If she knew things would be a little more casual for some...she would of shown up dressed more of the part. Oh well, any good reason to make herself feel more business like was a good thing. "Hmm." Finger pressed to pursed lips. Looking at the seats, then to those who've arrived. "How about here?" After a few steps. Motioning to a few seats.

Alain DeMuer ::Alain pauses by one of the guards currently arguing with Sal and tips his head towards his ear. There's a low murmur and a flicker of a rather grim smile; then the Baron takes his seat.::

Rhiannon Brock I get the impression this is going to be an interesting evening.

Gwen Minx A hand rose to gather her blond hair and pull it back into a ponytail, it made her look younger than she was — not that she was old — and tended to make people underestimate her, she liked that. "Do you suppose they show a movie or something, Squire" I hope they do, I saw one the other day. It was marvelous magic that." As she started toward the indicated seats. "Perfect, not too close to the front and not too far from the back."

Ebon Ilnaren Indeed. ::he sipped his coffee:: Hmmm....not bad.

Delahada That one guard paled, and coincidentally Sal found the ID and was shoving it in his face. "Here. See" Now move." So he did. And Sal prowled in looking as sullen and not wanting to be here as ever, but he went to go loom by Fio, muttering an apology for his tardiness.

FioHelston She hadn't chosen a seat yet. When she did, she settled in beside Alain.

Riley Lo Let's try that again, shall we" Riley's brow arched when she spotted Sal. What in the ninth level of Hell was he doing here"

Rhiannon Brock Hazelnut' ::an upnod to the coffee::

Candy Hart Took out a pack of smoked and set it on the table before herself.

FioHelston "Play nice," she murmured to the Baron-Baron.

Audrey Horne She steps inside and looks around to those gathered. A smile, a nod, both apologetic, and she heads over to take over an empty seat near Candy.::

Delahada That's better, Riley.

Caroline Granger Sal was someone Caroline only knew by reputation, glancing briefly toward him as he loomed beside the Governor before letting her eyes scan the rest of the room once again. A quiet yawn was stifled behind her hand, the coffee cup lifted to her lips as she wriggled her fingers in a silent greeting to Audrey.

Apple Doing the squire-like thing and pulling out Gwens seat. Waiting for her to sit. "After you." There was an after-thought that she somehow screwed it up, but she played it off like nothing. "A movie" Ummm...Maybe?" Not like she knew exactly what they did in these meetings. "If not, I could take you to one tomorrow?"

Ebon Ilnaren No, vanilla and a bit of cinnamon.

Alain DeMuer ::There's a gentle touch to Fio's shoulder, meant to be comforting, and another flicker of a smile at the admonishment. Then he leans back in his seat, fingers curling from his temple to his brow.::

Delahada Salvador did not take a seat. Instead he opted to hold up the wall directly behind the Governor with his shoulders, and be her silent, arms-crossed, shadow.

FioHelston "Welcome everyone. I know you've all had a long day, so I appreciate your attending tonight. Feel free to help yourselves to food and drink as you wish."

Gwen Minx There was a hint of a smile as Apple pulled the chair out for her. "Thank you." Then she sank down in a manner that would be used by a boneless creature. "Oh! We should get some Badsiders! I'll bet that will make this go much faster."

Audrey Horne ::She dips her head in greeting to Carolina, crosses one leg over the other and turns her attention to Fio.::

Candy Hart Up nod to Audrey and an offer of that pack of smokes.

Rhiannon Brock Sounds delicious. ::She blinked:: I could almost swear I heard Sal's ....::She turned and, yes, there he was! She offered a little wave then settled in to listen Fio.::

FioHelston "I'll open up the liquor cabinet at the end of the meeting," she murmured, as a concession.

Delahada He lifted his fingers off his arm a little to Rhi. Hi.

Audrey Horne ::Or Caroline. The sight of the smokes rustles up a more genuie smile and she takes the pack, taps a coffin nail out and passes the cigarettes back to Candy, the tip of her tongue caught between her teeth.::

Riley Lo Riley and Sal are like bookends, then, holding up opposite walls with their leans. Caramel eyes drifting towards cool and considering swept the room, lingering for a long moment on the Baron DeMuer's face before moving on and finally coming to rest on the Governor's.

FioHelston "Since our last meeting, events have transpired in the city which make the situation we came to discuss a bit ....thornier."

Gwen Minx "OH! Right, I got something else for you!" Digging into another pocket she pulls out a sticker and promptly presses it against Apples front, sort of near her shoulder. It reads "Hello, My name is Squire Apple, if you kill my Baroness prepare to die." Once done she leans back to examine her handiwork and nods, quite satisfied.

Apple A little push of that seat forward, then she moved to her own. Unbuttoning that jacket top of hers before settling down into the seat. Note-taking stuffs left on the table for now. Trying hard not to slouch...must look proper! Even if it started annoying her back. Blink. Look left, look right. Trying to spot some Badsiders. "I don't know if they got any here...Be nice if they did."

Apple Looks down at the sticker, then to Gwen. Double thumbs up.

Candy Hart Takes out her own smoke, it flaring to life seemingly of its own accord. Then the pack returned to the table, waiting. She tilted her chair back and focused attention on Fio.

Alain DeMuer ::It's maybe halfway through Riley's stare that Alain notices and returns it in kind. His brow wrinkles that much more, but it's hard to tell over what, exactly. He looks exhausted.::

Delahada Holding up the wall is the best job ever.

Gwen Minx Digging out one of her own and affixing it to her front, this one stating, "Hello my name is Baroness Gwen Minx, if you kill my Squire prepare to die." Anyone want to take bets on which movie it was she saw" Her grey eyes swept the room, there were a smattering of familiar faces but most were not.

FioHelston "I know I don't need to reiterate this, but I will, to satisfy Mr. Edmundsun in the corner there....Her gaze ticked to the city's attorney, and flashed once past Gwen before moving around the rest of those around the table. "What we discuss here, stays here. If you cannot agree to that requirement, I would ask you to excuse yourself for tonight."

Riley Lo One they both are uniquely qualified to do.

FioHelston And on that note, she paused, for any takers.

Delahada He did his job brilliantly by closing his eyes and bowing his head to complete the look. Just an ornament. Pay no attention to him.

Riley Lo Oh, the temptation to walk out...just 'cos she was entirely too feline not to be perverse.

Apple "Oh man..." This was some lip-sealed sort of stuff. Andrea glanced about, but kept quiet. A good way of saying she agreed to the whole `stay shut up` thing.

Candy Hart A glance to Apple. Then Candy focus return to Fio.

Caroline Granger Naturally. Caroline's eyes flickered to the city's attorney for a moment. As much as she might have liked to have taken the opportunity and excused herself, she knew what tonight's meeting was about. She owed it to Dom and Gwen and forty-seven other families to be here for this.

Gwen Minx She considered the words, but really she had no one to tell such things to excepting Apple and she was here. This was surely a good perk for being a squire, sure it was, mmm hmm.

Rhiannon Brock ::Her fingers curled around her glass of juice as she listened.::

Ebon Ilnaren ::he glanced to Caroline and gave her an encouraging smile::

Rachael Douglas Shielded sapphires flicked to mark the city attorney's face in her eidetic memory. Notepad and pen were withdrawn from an inside pocket of her black leather trenchcoat. Silver badge of office pinned to the garment gleamed in the lights.

Caroline Granger Ebon's smile wasn't missed. It was even returned, if a little subdued, the encouragement appreciated.

Rhiannon Brock ::She held up a hand:: Governor"

FioHelston

Date: 2012-07-27 08:28 EST
FioHelston "Very well, then. Second rule tonight. There is no rank around this table. Everyone has an equal voice and my attention. I want to hear what you are really thinking."

FioHelston "Yes?"

Rhiannon Brock Is private discussion permitted with members of the GAC that are not currently present'

Gwen Minx There was a sidelong glance at Apple, making sure she was poised to take notes.

FioHelston "Yes. So long as it remains private and doesn't take itself into the public bars and social venues of this city. I've had to deal with that sort of thing once already and I won't be so willing to give second chances this time around."

Apple Looks like now was the time to start taking notes. She pulled at notebook, flipped it open, and began to write. First things first: the rules. Adding little more to them...The first rule of GAC private meetings: You do not talk about GAC private meetings. So on, and so on. Sideglance at Gwen. Taps pen against the open notebook a few times to show she's taking notes.

Rhiannon Brock Understood.

Alain DeMuer ::Alain lifts his hand.::

FioHelston "Alain?" no rank tonight.

Gwen Minx For her part she was taking note of the people as they were called upon, as half the faces were still strangers.

Alain DeMuer ::Alain bows his head.:: "What happened this week is a tragedy, make no mistake. It never had to come to this." ::Then he opens a scarred hand.:: "But there's no denying that this presents us with a unique opportunity as well. The organization intended for these horrific attacks may finally be painfully aware just how dangerous our city can be. I can think of no better time to begin a dialogue."

Riley Lo One corner of Riley's mouth lifted in a little smirk at the Baron's pretty speech. "And are you gonna be the one to talk to 'em?"

Rhiannon Brock ::Rhi was adding up all the math in her head as she listened to Alain::

Caroline Granger Caroline's lips drew back in a silent snarl at this suggestion of negotiation with the problem, but she kept her peace, for now. Her jaw clenched as she forced herself not to react as she wanted to, nostrils white and flaring with the effort of keeping her temper in check.

FioHelston She watched back and forth, Alain, Riley, Alain. She didn't look at Caro yet, though she wanted to.

Delahada Riley made him chuckle. Dangit. He had been doing such a fine job of pretending to be a statue. She ruined everything!

FioHelston She reached back and swatted Sal's abs with the backs of her fingers. Ow.

Apple The serious subject had her hunching over some. Fingers lifting to fix at glasses before she went back to work on writing down a summery of what went on as time went. She couldn't get what was said exactly right, but it was close enough.

Alain DeMuer "If the city asks me to. The best intelligence comes from within, after all," ::with another slight bow of his head, carefully schooling his expression.::

Delahada Ooft. Snigger.

Rhiannon Brock ::She looked over as she heard Riley and smiled a touch.::

Rachael Douglas Pen moved across her notepad while she listened.

FioHelston She waited. Others were sure to jump in.

Riley Lo She snorted. "With your pretty white skin and your round eyes. Yeah, they'll certainly talk to you." She wasn't being racist; she was being honest. "Gaijin aren't to be trusted. These guys are old school Japanese. Do you know anything about their world?"

FioHelston See" "Tell us."

Alain DeMuer ::There's a soft laugh.:: "Then there isn't much reason for me to be here, is there. Please..." ::Gesturing between the Governor and her.:: "Explain."

Rhiannon Brock The time for diplomacy is generally before the opening attack is delivered, Baron DeMuer. ::She turned her attention to Riley::

Audrey Horne ::She listens and takes a long drag from her coffin nail, eyes darting between Alain and Riley in response to the conversational pingpong.::

Riley Lo She shrugged one shoulder and the corners of that expressive mouth pulled down in a slight frown. "Tell you what, exactly?" Alain's obvious reluctance to learn cooled her interest in offering what information she had.

Gwen Minx She had some words but for now she kept them close. She could, contrary to popular belief remain silent. Her hands needed to be busy however and so a silver coin flashed as she made it dance along her fingers. It was that or she'd start 'relieving' some of the council members of unwanted items. "We need to be this Japanese to be useful here?" It was an honest question. She had no idea what their world was like, other than they needed to live in it with her.

FioHelston "What do we need to know about them to comprehend their position better?"

Caroline Granger "What we're dealing with," Caroline piped up, her voice stiff and tense. Her eyes lifted to Riley. "We need to know."

Alain DeMuer "Why people in this city are dying, Mrs. Lo. Why one of my employees is crippled."

Gwen Minx Ok, so not silent for long.

FioHelston "Exactly."

Alain DeMuer ::There's sudden heat in his tone. The open hand closes, and he withdraws it from the table.::

Candy Hart Never left, had just been....listening. A lot.

Caroline Granger At the mention of employees and injuries, Caroline silenced herself again, her face pale. She had to be here, but it didn't mean she wanted to relive what she knew of the antagonists building a nest for themselves in the city.

Riley Lo "They have rules. They have a code of honour. Sure," she said, anticipating snorts of derision and cutting them off. "That code's not exactly taken from King Arthur's book, but it's pretty strict. As for why people are dying, why don't you ask the murderer" I'm pretty sure the yakuza had nothing to do with the 30-odd men who were killed in my freakin' neighbourhood."

Apple Thumb pressed to finger after finger. Small cracks of the knuckles. All this talking meant tons of writing. Peeking up every now and then to get a look about the room, and all the faces within it, but keeping her face nice and buried in that notebook. Keeps writing.

FioHelston "But they did have something to do with GrangerGuild. And the strong-arming of other businesses."

FioHelston "Batten's people have some pretty convincing evidence pointing to them as the people responsible for that missing shipment of vaccine last year, too."

FioHelston "So tell us how we deal with them."

Delahada He cleared his throat. Purely coincidental" Or restraining himself from offering his opinion'

Riley Lo "Sure, strong-arming, pressuring people to give into their monetary demands. If you don't pay up, your business suffers. That's how they do business." She paused for a second, ticked a sympathetic look at Caroline. "The bombing, Caroline" Wasn't a part of their code. They don't do that stuff. The attack in the Inn, that's out of line for them, too. They're businessmen. Deal with them like that."

Riley Lo "They clean up their messes in-house. The bikers, Fio' Remember them' Remember what happened to them?"

FioHelston "They ran."

Alain DeMuer ::His hand returns to his brow again, rubbing slowly.::

Riley Lo She shook her head. "They ended up on the steps of this very building, right' Naked, dead, with signs around their necks, right' They take care of their own messes."

Caroline Granger She met Riley's gaze with startling hardness deep in her own eyes. "I know it wasn't a part of their code," she said, trying to keep her voice level. "One of their leaders told me as such at my cousin's funeral. But that doesn't bring back the forty-seven people who died because he and his superiors allowed those murderers to come to this city unsupervised -" She cut herself off, biting hard at her lower lip. "I'm sorry, I don't think I'm detached enough for this discussion."

FioHelston She blew out a sigh through her nose. "I don't need detached discussion. I need passion here."

Alain DeMuer "If this isn't their way, why are they so unstable" Trying to run protection rackets on high-profile companies, large-scale attacks," ::his gaze ticks to Caroline, then away,:: "starting a deadly fight in the Governor's presence. None of it speaks to a stable criminal organization — and there is such a thing."

Riley Lo Riley's gaze slid back to Caroline and she gave the woman a soft smile. "If it helps, that guy's in the bottom of Kamogawa River now."

FioHelston "I don't think we can afford to be dispassionate about this. We have to want to find some way to solve this. I can -not- have more people dying because of some quiet war no one wants to talk about."

FioHelston "So this is everyone's chance to get it out in the open, here, and not in the inn, and not where someone else might here and take things into their own hands, like happened on Sunday."

Riley Lo Her gaze went back to Alain's face then and she nodded. He had a salient point. "Think about it for a second. They came here without any knowledge of this place and then tried to stick to business as usual. For all they knew, Batten and you are just," she shrugged. "Greengrocers without any connections. The ones in the bar, the ones who started a fight with Fio present' They're not even yakuza."

Candy Hart Spares a glance aside to Audrey.

Gwen Minx The coin flipped across her fingers as she listened, watching the faces of the people gathered.

Audrey Horne ::Returns the glance in kind, one dark brow ticking up.::

Alain DeMuer ::He nods slowly, frowning deeper.::

Rachael Douglas Her scarred features were stone hard while she continued to take notes.

FioHelston "She's right about the incident in the inn. I....questioned one of them. We have him in a safehouse."

Riley Lo "But, like I said. They're businessmen. Deal with them accordingly. Send someone to Little Tokyo to talk with their oyabun."

Ebon Ilnaren Who would you suggest'

Candy Hart "Someone they'd take seriously an can respect."

Alain DeMuer ::Alain opens his mouth. Ebon beats him to it. Even under these circumstances, he can't help a ghost of a smile at that.::

FioHelston "I want a councilor involved."

Caroline Granger "Who did you have in mind, Fio?"

Riley Lo "Someone Japanese, or at least someone with knowledge of Japan." She nodded and lifted her chin to Candy. "Yeah, someone they'll respect."

Alain DeMuer ::He looks over at Fio beside him. Eyebrows inch up, asking a silent question.::

FioHelston "So we send two people. Or three. You can advise them, or someone you recommend can, and be part of the delegation." The last for Riley. "But I want someone with some perceived authority in charge. And a man. They don't respect women."

Candy Hart A hint of a smirk to Audrey. Candy exhaled some smoke in the other direction.

FioHelston She knew that much from the interview.

Riley Lo "Definitely not a woman. That's part of why they think they can run roughshod over this city."

FioHelston "Alain. Who else?"

Caroline Granger "Maybe I should introduce some of them to Gigi and Madion, then," Caroline muttered, not quite to herself. Just as well only those who knew those two particularly volatile Grangers would catch her reference.

Rachael Douglas Comment on the knowledge factor was withheld while she took notes in an even, precise handwriting.

Gwen Minx "So we perpetuate that view by not presenting any strong examples of their misperception' We have many strong women, perhaps one as a part of the few sent?" Because that rankled her slightly.

Gwen Minx Then just in case they read that wrong. "Not me, by the way, but we have good candidates I believe."

Rachael Douglas "It would not do our cause good to disrespect those whom we are attempting to parlay with."

Audrey Horne ::She snickers at the mention of Gigi, smoke pouring out from between clinched teeth.::

Ebon Ilnaren I don't think that confronting them with that reality will help, Gwen. ::then he nodded to Rachael::

Riley Lo "Ebon' Matt' Personally, Fio, I think you should go, 'cos Blondie's got a point."

Gwen Minx "We disrepect ourselves if we constantly keep our women away from their eyes."

Rhiannon Brock The Baroness of Seaside presents a valid point. They moved here, we didn't move to their home.

FioHelston "Oh, they've had interactions with me....." wryly to Gwen, but she didn't rule it out. "Any others?"

Apple There was a small hint of a smile at Gwen for her words. Back to note taking!

Caroline Granger "I wouldn't volunteer myself," Caroline offered. "I got a little emotional last time I came face to face with them." And practically screamed the cemetary down.

Delahada Oh. He knew that name. He cracked open an eye to peer at Caroline a minute, but it was a gesture shrouded under the fall of his hair, head still bowed.

Ebon Ilnaren I will volunteer.

Riley Lo She nodded. "Exactly. You want to come to terms with them, right' You want this to be about give and take" Show up ready to deal on even footing. Be strong. They respect strength."

Rhiannon Brock I'll go.

Riley Lo She gave Rhi a little smile and shook her head. "You're too young."

FioHelston Her brow arched. "She comes."

Rhiannon Brock Really'

Alain DeMuer "Who are we sending who knows their customs?"

Riley Lo Riley shrugged and chuckled softly. "Hey, it's your party. Just don't be surprised when they don't let her sit at the adult table."

Rhiannon Brock You don't know me if you think that, Mrs. Lo.

FioHelston She didn't look any younger than Fionna herself did. She tapped the pads of her fingers lightly on the table.

Gwen Minx "We can change her appearance some to make her look older if that is a concern. She carries herself like an adult."

FioHelston "Alain, Ebon, Rhiannon....myself. And an advisor."

Rhiannon Brock And if no one tells them my age, they will never know.

Riley Lo "They don't know you either. They'll take one look at your sweet, young, innocent face and laugh. I'm sorry."

Caroline Granger "Maybe we're approaching this the wrong way," Caroline suggested quietly. "Riley's the closest thing we have to an expert, right' So who would you choose, Riley?"

Riley Lo "Fio, Ebon, Alain, maybe Matt if he's up for it. Edward if he's not."

Candy Hart Looks at Apple, "You know any strong women?"

Rhiannon Brock Then let them face me on the field of honor. That's one of the customs, no'

Delahada He twitched a smirk. The warrior women of Rhy'Din made him happy.

Gwen Minx "Other than the one that she sees in a mirror every day' Or any of the Baronesses?" Smirking slightly.

FioHelston "What about Candy?"

Apple Peeks up at Candy. Fingers pinched at the frames of her glasses so she could fix them. There was no answer. The thought of suggesting Candy herself came up, but others beat her to it.

Riley Lo "From 200 years ago, sure. These aren't shogunate-era Japanese, Rhi. They don't know anything about swords. They stick to guns nowadays."

Race Late" Understatement but he came to the door and showed identificatoin to the security guys. Yes they knew him, but he understood they had a job to perform. Once in he looks at the others who've come ahead.

Audrey Horne ::Her eyes dart to Candy and she hides a snicker behind a yawn.::

Riley Lo She ticked a look at Candy. "Sure. If she's up for it."

Caroline Granger A thought occurred to her, her hand rising slowly rather than butting in for once.

Rhiannon Brock The point, Counselor Granger, is to build a bridge, is it not' Who better than one born in Rhydin to assist'

Candy Hart A glance between Riley and Rhiannon. Candy's chair thunked down and she put up two lazy fingers to indicate she wanted to talk.

Audrey Horne Rhiannon has a point and besides, she's more mature than a lot of the adults I've met. ::There's her two cents.::

FioHelston She was pondering all of it. Give her a couple of minutes to process. "Caro?"

Riley Lo "And my point is these guys are all about appearances. Rhi has Collie's blood. I know how impressive she is, how mature, how...fiesty and awesome. They don't. They won't care. She's a girl and she's young. That's all they'll care about."

Race Eyeballs the gathering for a place to sit and decides to pull up a chair at Alain's elbow and leans forward with a whisper.

Alain DeMuer "Whoever is coming..." ::He rubs his face for a few moments, wincing from the exhaustion and stress.:: "...should prepare themselves for what they'll want to barter for. Protection rackets, brothels, maybe drug smuggling. I don't think they'll hesitate to bring these things to the table," ::looking to Riley for an affirmative, or negative.::

Alain DeMuer ::Then he leans back towards Race.::

Delahada Sal's holding up the wall behind Fio with his shoulders, eyes closed and head bowed, silent shadow.

Candy Hart Lazy two down, she plucked her smoke out of her mouth.

Rhiannon Brock ::She was waiting for Candy's two bits::

FioHelston Candy would be next.

Caroline Granger She blinked, startled by the challenge from Rhi, whatever she'd been thinking swept from her mind as her hand lowered. "I never said that you shouldn't be a part of this delegation," she said quietly. "But whatever is decided, I will not forgive them for having so little control over their own that my people died. I won't shake hands with my cousin's murderer, but I'm not stopping you." She swallowed hard, aware that she was close to breaking down, shaking her head. "I'm sorry, Fio, I've -

Tasslehofl ::the old man pushed the door open and made his way on in::

Caroline Granger -forgotten the point I originally intended to make."

Gwen Minx Glances over and gives Tass a smile, not piping up for now as she was listening.

Riley Lo She nodded, agreeing with Alain's statement. She streched a little and then fell back into her lean against the wall.

FioHelston She got up from her chair, abandoning her shadow to go pour Caroline a glass of water. "Candy?"

Rhiannon Brock Quite understandable. ::She nodded to Caro::

Race Nods at the briefing before saying something more and sitting back.

Rhiannon Brock ::She gave Race and the Old Man an upnod::

Alain DeMuer ::There's a flicker of a smile, but he contains the rest. Rubs at his jaw again as his gaze moves to Caroline.::

FioHelston She came back around the opposite end of the table, passing behind her and briefly resting a hand on the other woman's bare forearm, lingering there a moment in a display of support.

Candy Hart Cracked her neck a second, then hearing Fio address her—she looked to the woman and around the other present. "You got spirit Rhi, but I'm agreein with that one." A point of her smoke at Riley, "Folks like that. It's about appearances." A gesture in once-over of Rhi. "You look like a sweet girl. An' men like that....they don't want t'barter with sweet girls, however much bite they might have." Looking to Riley, "These men....they the sort to take in gamblin" I know someone...runs a

Candy Hart place. I fight there. If they're like to go. They're likely t'know me." That edge of her dangerous smile.

Delahada When Fio moved, he lifted his chin and watched her intensely.

Riley Lo "They have a club in Little Tokyo. Called the Kotetsu Social Club. There's a casino in it and a fight club in the basement."

Caroline Granger Losing control was not something Caro was happy to do in public, and certainly not in a situation like this. Aware that eyes were on her, she dropped her gaze to the table, struggling for a moment. The comfort offered to her by Fio brought a sense of better calm, helping her gather herself under control once again. Her hand covered Fio's, offering a quiet murmur of, "Thank you."

Tasslehofl ::he just took a lean against the wall, taking a moment to listen and well...listen::

Candy Hart "This place is bigger than a basement."

FioHelston She gave her arm a little squeeze and a pat before breaking contact and returning to her seat. She pointedly did not look at Riley as she passed her.

Riley Lo Though Riley's words were for Candy, her eyes were all for Fio. She watched the Governor as she touched Caroline, nostrils quivering as she tracked Fio's movements like a sight hound, then wrenched her attentions back to Candy. "Yeah, so's theirs."

Gwen Minx "I believe the point was they might know Candy and therefore she might be a good candidate to send?"

Candy Hart A glance to Audrey, thinking the woman might enjoy it. Then a look back at Riley, "Then they're missin out on the other flavors o'the town."

Alain DeMuer "Seconded." ::Nodding to Gwen.::

FioHelston She was still listening as she dropped back into her seat.

Delahada Once Fio was back in her seat, he stared at the back of her head for a few seconds too long, then closed his eyes and bowed his head again.

Tasslehofl ::his eyes took in a few things, and seeing perhaps more than he should, his mind behind to calculate...dangerious, that::

Audrey Horne ::Her eyes go wide, but she doesn't say a thing. The smile she gives Candy is perhaps a bit unnerving.::

Riley Lo "I thought she was find to send before I knew about her after-hours activities." She shrugged.

Candy Hart Leaning toward Audrey, she said something to her ear alone.

FioHelston "I want another woman from the council in this group. Does anyone else have an objection to Ms. Hart's inclusion in this little party?"

Rhiannon Brock No objection.

Ebon Ilnaren None.

Gwen Minx "None here."

Candy Hart Leaning back, hearing the vote.

Caroline Granger Caroline shook her head.

Tasslehofl ::he almost commented...but he held the Black in check::

Audrey Horne Or here.

Riley Lo "So it'll be Ebon, Alain, Fio, Candy?" Riley just wanted to make sure she had her facts straight.

Audrey Horne ::Then she leans close to return Candy's whisper with one of her own.::

FioHelston

Date: 2012-07-27 08:30 EST
Race Lifts his hand, has a question.

Rachael Douglas She remained silent. Not her place to object or approve. Notes continued to be taken.

FioHelston "Race?"

Candy Hart Another twitch of a smirk.

Race Nods as he's given the floor. "I know I'm rather late and have missed a lot. However from what I've seen of this group as a whole, they tend to look down on women. What if they, perhaps, take us sending women in the delegation as an insult?"

Candy Hart A look to Race, recalling him from such things and someone that interviewed her once.

Tasslehofl ::he couldn't stop Shadow from voicing the comment this time...he didn't want to:: Candy will burn them and the place down then

Ebon Ilnaren ::a sip of coffee hid his chuckle::

Rhiannon Brock ::Rhi sipped her juice and smiled to herself as she recalled a few letters published in The Post's letter section and murmured:: Sweet girl indeed.

Gwen Minx She already spoke her mind on that exact matter and wanted to see how it would be answered this time around.

Candy Hart The upward turn of her lips neither confirmed nor denied.

FioHelston "We've been debating that. But they came to our playground."

Race He refrains from speaking aloud his other thought of just sending in Kitty Helston and issueing ear plugs to everyone in the area surrounding Little Tokyo. "Ah, I see."

Delahada That would be the best plan ever, Race! Don't hold it in!

FioHelston "So yes. Ebon, Alain, Candy and myself.....Riley' Our advisor?"

Gwen Minx A glance at the time and she frowns. She had some duties to be looked after in her Barony. Leaning close to Apple to whisper some instructions before rising and taking her leave.

Ebon Ilnaren ::he would pay money to see that::

Alain DeMuer ::Gwen and Jaster must be cousins. Alain raises his coffee for another sip.::

FioHelston "And I know it's getting late, but once we decide on this, I have a couple of quick items I want to touch on while I have you all here."

Riley Lo She shook her head. "Oh, no. Baad idea to send me in there. I'm haifu and an oni too. You want this little parlay to succeed, right?"

Rhiannon Brock ::Seeing she was about to leave, Rhi nodded to Gwen::

FioHelston "We do ....who do you suggest?"

Apple She perked up a little at hearing the whisper. Nodding her head head. This meant she might be needed to be a little more active instead of just note taking. Looks about at the others within the meeting.

Caroline Granger They seemed close to a conclusion, which was just as well. Caroline glanced at her own watch, aware that if she didn't reappear at the Grove pretty soon, her grandfather would start sending out security details to escort her back. The mention of a couple more items that needed going over made her frown lightly, her head tilting with curiosity.

Tasslehofl ::his gaze turned to Gwen as she stood::

Riley Lo "I don't think you need anyone else. The four of you would be just fine. I can advise you on whatever you need before you go in."

Gwen Minx Giving a nod or a smile to those she knew on her way out and then heading off, satified that Apple will adhere to her wishes.

Rachael Douglas Commentary note was made in her notepad. And what if they take this as an act of disrespect and thus retaliate with more violence" Who will bear the blood on their hands then" Shielded sapphires flicked to the Governor.

Alain DeMuer "I think....we should be prepared to adapt on the fly. Riley, how stubborn do you think they'll be about women present at the meeting?"

Race "Take the Stew as a peace offering..." He says flatly.

Ebon Ilnaren ::was that a snicker" Quite possibly::

Audrey Horne ::A snicker at Race's words. She's right there with you, Ebon.::

Rhiannon Brock ::Her lips twitched with amusement, leave it to Race to do that!::

Riley Lo She cracked a smile at Race's suggestion before turning to Alain. She gave an eloquent, almost Gallic shrug. "It's hard to say. They are from Kyoto, and the Kyoto yakuza had a female oyabun for a couple of years, so....It's likely they'll be more open to Candy and Fio's presence. Just don't be pissed if they ignore you girls in favour of Ebon and Alain."

Delahada Cough. That wasn't a chuckle. Honest.

Race The Mogul is quite serious with that. Fio said they came to Rhydin's playground.

Caroline Granger Another time, perhaps, and Caroline would have been snickering with them. Tonight' She was just too strung out to let herself smile.

FioHelston She steepled her fingers, listening. "We need translators, too. I don't want to rely on what they tell us is being discussed. Can someone check with Batten and see if he has any little toys we can borrow?"

Rhiannon Brock Take them a better offering than the Stew.

Ebon Ilnaren If he doesn't, I can get some.

Alain DeMuer ::Alain begins to bark a laugh at the familiar nature of Riley's shrug before catching himself. Raises his coffee again for a sip. Nothing to see here, folks.::

FioHelston She shifted in her seat then.

Candy Hart "I plan t'be back up." In other words, she'll play background unless needed to do otherwise. Truly she is curious to get up close and personal.

Ebon Ilnaren You could offer to check out their fight club, Candy.

Candy Hart "Works for me."

Alain DeMuer ::Then he winces for some reason. Shoots a sideways look at Fio.::

FioHelston She was the picture of innocence.

Candy Hart That smile said checking out the fight club could be the highlight of the night.

Race Eyes Rhiannon. "We could always just send Kitty Helston solo. Air-drop earplugs to everyone in the area around Little Tokyo." Since she brought up better offerings.

Riley Lo Riley snorted with derision and covered it was a cough.

FioHelston "No," she was a bit vehement there.

Delahada Cough-chuckle! Okay. He couldn't hold that one in.

FioHelston "All right. Well, it's the beginning of a plan. Anything else on this before we move on?"

Tasslehofl ::his gaze turned to Fio then::

Delahada Ahem. Composure. He has it.

Rhiannon Brock ::Rhi cleared her throat, she had the distinct impression of someone in the room being in pain. Empaths were touchy that way. :: We could just ask Mom Two to greet them in her preferred fashion. ::She winked at Race::

Rachael Douglas "Mon dieu. Death by hugging." Focus returned to the Governor.

Candy Hart Ticks up two fingers again.

Alain DeMuer ::Alain raises his hand again.::

FioHelston "Candy, and then Alain..."

Candy Hart Looking at Fio. "As y'know. Tomorrow night I have a challenge on my barony. Should.....your friend...." so much dislike..."succeed, I will no longer hold a seat on the Council."

FioHelston "You will still be part of this delegation, unless you choose not to be."

Audrey Horne ::A sidelong glance to Candy.::

Candy Hart A short nod. Done.

FioHelston "Alain?"

Candy Hart Looking to Audrey, shallow lift of her brow.

Audrey Horne ::One corner of her mouth curves up.::

Caroline Granger Leaning back in her seat, far calmer now than she had been only half an hour before, Caroline laid her hands on the over-active swell of her bump, content to just sit and listen now. Her contributions hadn't done anything but upset her, after all.

Riley Lo Riley zoned out for a moment, staring with barely-disguised baby lust at Caroline's belly.

FioHelston She shifted in her chair again.

Alain DeMuer "I think it goes without saying that we need to exercise restraint. I realize how strongly many of us value our independence, and how much some of us may want revenge...but this situation is extremely delicate, especially with plans for a delegation."

Delahada Whereas Sal made it a note to self to stay far, far away from Caroline at all costs.

FioHelston "Thank you. Which transitions nicely into what I was about to speak to next."

Caroline Granger She stiffened, feeling a sting in Alain's words, color rising in her cheeks. But thanks to Fio, she had control over herself enough not to let her temper snap at what she took as an uncomfortable insinuation.

Riley Lo Had she been truly paying attention, she might have applauded Alain's words.

FioHelston Mr. Edmundsun's glittering eyes were all attention.

Race "Smuggle the Stew into their leader' house. This'll be over in a day." Again, he's serious but the statement doens't stray far beyond the people on either side of him.

FioHelston "This does —not— leave this room," she reiterated.

Delahada He kind of wanted to stab the lawyer in the face....Thank goodness he was being a good boy.

Riley Lo Uh-oh. Maybe it was time for Riley to pay attention now"

FioHelston "Monday, I relieved Andu Kirost of his position on this council."

Tasslehofl ::that gaze continued to track Fio::

Candy Hart A shift in her seat, listening. She lit up a new smoke.

Ebon Ilnaren ::one eyebrow arched as he focused on Fio, intrigued::

Candy Hart Well it lit itself up, it seemed.

Race Looks to Fio curiously, near mirroring Ebon' look.

Audrey Horne ::She blinks and turns her attention to Fio.::

Rhiannon Brock ::She glanced toward Ebon and made a note to discuss a few things with him then looked to Fio::

Riley Lo Maybe it was time for Riley to excuse herself"

Rhiannon Brock ::She muttered in response to Fio's remarks:: What'd he do *this* time"

FioHelston "In the spring, we received evidence that he was sharing details from one of our closed meetings with the criminal known as Renna. A few of you know about this, but I chose not to make it widely known, and to use it instead to feed false information. He has been on very thin ice since then, however."

Apple Tilts her head to the side. Keeping quiet. The things Gwen asked of her never coming up, meaning she would do better at keeping quiet. Peeks up from her note taking.

Delahada Riley was not allowed to run away.

Caroline Granger Shock showed itself in Caroline's eyes. Andu had seemed so innocuous. So much for her ability to read people.

FioHelston "On Sunday, thirty young men were murdered in WestEnd. We believe we know the creature responsible, and are working on that. But there has been some suggestion that Mr. Kirost may have instigated it."

Riley Lo Riley made a little 'Oh' of surprise and one slender hand dipped into her Marc Jacobs to retrieve a legal pad and pen. Thens he slipped into an empty chair and started scribbling notes in a weird pidgin of katakana, kanji, and Romanji letters.

Audrey Horne ::She's still nursing cancer stick numero uno, surprise born from Fio's words furrowing her brows.::

FioHelston "There are no charges filed against him, yet, but I decided I could no longer reasonably rely upon him as a member of this body."

Rachael Douglas Lips flatlined. That was not all of the privileged information that the 'kindly' minotaur had shared in public. Notes filled page after page of her notepad.

Riley Lo "Allegedly," she said. "Allegedly instigated this heinous act."

Ebon Ilnaren ::sigh and nod::

Alain DeMuer ::Alain rubs his chin, but otherwise he's taking pains to keep his expression blank.::

FioHelston "Oh allegedly, Riley. You aren't his lawyer in here, and let's be honest. We have surveillance orbs from the inn. The best defense he has is that he didn't mean it."

Candy Hart No change in her expression while the information got filed away.

FioHelston "Be that as it may, It is unlikely that we will be able to amass enough evidence to press charges against him."

Riley Lo Wow. Jurisprudence out the door, huh' "So what you have surveillance orbs" People say sh*t in there all the time. Is it Andu's fault that some freakin' psychopath decided to act upon his casual comment?"

Race Fio drops the F-bomb, his hands went up as he leans back as if saying 'I'm out'.

Delahada Clearing his throat, he shifted against the wall as if merely stretching, but he tipped a stern look Riley's way. Calm down, kitty. Not now.

FioHelston "I did say we probably will not be able to press charges. Jurisprudence is still whizzing along." Mr. Edmundsun looked prepared to have a myocaridal infarction.

Delahada Yay!

Tasslehofl ::he finally voiced:: so'

FioHelston "I want to be clear...."

Riley Lo "If you've got him on leaking info from your private meetings, fine. Go after him for that. But this comment..." And now she's closing her mouth with an audible click and managed to give Sal and Fio a slightly sheepish look.

Caroline Granger "If this is going to degenerate into unpleasantries, then perhaps this is a good time to call it a night," Caroline spoke up for the first time in a while. She was frowning, both at the governor and Riley. "This isn't the forum for details like this to be discussed."

Rhiannon Brock ::She glanced to Riley:: Actually, since he was a member of this council at the time and we were all warned about the dangers of inciting the yakuza....he bears a part of the responsibility. ::Young and sweet....but not stupid.::

FioHelston "I am not saying this to impugn his honor or anything else. And I need to discuss it because I want to be clear..."

Rhiannon Brock Allegedly. ::to Riley::

FioHelston "Exactly. He could very well have tipped this entire apple cart over. He is - was - one of those individuals in this town with the perceived authority we were talking about earlier."

Delahada He silently promised helping Riley work out some aggression later with little more than body language. Y'know. In the rings. Save that rabid attitude for the rings, girl!

FioHelston "We cannot - cannot - afford any other incidents like this, innocently provoked or not. I don't know what his intentions were, and I don't care."

FioHelston "We are about to send people in to treat with these men, and we need to be careful."

Tasslehofl Why'

Tasslehofl ::again, a simple question::

FioHelston "Because I don't want any of you dead."

Riley Lo "Uh, so more people don't die" I don't know about you, but I kinda dig living."

FioHelston "Or anyone else, if I can help it."

Race "Andu can be naieve, but he's far from stupid..." he looks at Tass and is kind of agreeing there. With everything these people have done, why play nice"

Tasslehofl I see....we have people come in, take over, do what they want, and we go to treat with them like we are now equals

Riley Lo She actually laughed at that and shook her head.

Tasslehofl You are setting yourself up for failure

Riley Lo "Dude. You live in Rhy'Din, right' That happens at least once a week. Why is everyone now getting all up in arms?"

Delahada Oh, Tass. Salvador wasn't smiling wickedly. Honest.

Candy Hart Candy knew exactly why she would play nice, but it wasn't something she'd voice. Her expression still showing nothing. She just seemed to give an ear and enjoy her smoke.

Rachael Douglas "The wolf is not noticed howling at the door until it kills your sheep." Spoken in low tones.

Tasslehofl My suggestion is to go in, kick their teeth through the back of their heads, and tell them to either fork over a share of their profits or leave

Caroline Granger She couldn't take going over this again, not tonight. Quietly, Caroline rose to her feet, nodding a silent apology to Fio and the others before making her way to the doors. Play nice or fight back, that decision was supposed to have been made by now

Riley Lo "That's sorta what they've been doing already. You're now gonna fight fire with fire?"

FioHelston "I am not above turning this situation to our advantage, if I can manage it. But I would prefer to do it with a minimum of havok, if I can."

Tasslehofl I'm more of the mind to raze the place and be done with it

Tasslehofl but I'm more of the scorched earth policy

Riley Lo "And which place would this be? Little Tokyo?"

Delahada It's bad enough he makes out with Kitty sometimes. Now he just wants to kiss her husband. He was having a hard time not voicing his agreement. This wasn't his place. He was just Fio's shadow guard.

Tasslehofl ::he shrugged....let them take that as they wanted::

Alain DeMuer "So....destroy their leadership. And open up the city to just the kind of chaos their underlings have been perpetrating."

Alain DeMuer ::Alain looks at Tass over folded hands.:: "This is what you propose?"

FioHelston Her eyes ticked toward Candy briefly at the mention of scorched earth.

Tasslehofl You kick hard enough, they won't be able to stand up to continue this little bit of chaos

Riley Lo "Yeah, that'd be awesome. 'Cos it's not like I own property in the area or anything." She rolled her eyes expressively and stood up. "Lemme know if you all have any more questions for me, okay' Candy, it was awesome to meet you."

Rhiannon Brock ::She nodded at her Papa then looked to Sal::

Race "Send in the Stew, 's all I have to really contribute." Just shakes his head.

Delahada He was tense. Could see it in his posture. He very much liked this idea of going in guns blazing.

Candy Hart Just a puff from her smoke. Scorched earth' Don't looke here, she's having a cigarette. A nod to Riley.

FioHelston "Adjourned. Someone check with Batten on the translators."
