Council of Ministers Disbanded

The Ministry Offices established under Governor Driscoll's term of office were intended to provide oversight to specific functioning areas within the City. These functional areas included defense, trade and commerce, magic, science and technology, justice, citizen resources, agriculture, and cultural diversity.

Some grants of authority under the establishment of these offices, such as that given to the Minister of Trade & Commerce to levy taxes and to approve those goods offered for sale, were never approved by the citizens through public vote. In every case, the eight Ministry offices, and the Ministers named to those posts, were required to provide periodic reports of their activity. No evidence of any submitted reports have been found.

The current administration recognizes that much may have occurred that was not recorded due to Sheridan Driscoll's disappearance and subsequent dereliction of duty. It also recognizes that activities beneficial to the public welfare were performed within some of these areas of responsibility, even in the absence of former Governor Driscoll. Those within those offices are to be commended for their service.

Maintaining continuity of services and retaining expertise in some of these functions is a priority. However, it is clear that the current structure is not working as intended.

Therefore, the current Council of Ministers as it exists is hereby disbanded.

Those officials currently serving in Minister and Deputy Minister positions have been invited to meet with Governor al Amat to determine where in the new administration their skills and experience can best be deployed. All ministry support staff have been contacted by Human Resources and will be reassigned to continuing work units.

Government Advisory Council Forming

Concurrent with this change, a new Government Advisory Council is being formed. These are unpaid, voluntary positions intended to provide advice to the Governor about the interests and concerns of the city. Positions on this council will be filled in part with interested former Ministry leaders and by community and business leaders who have been recognized as actively involved in public affairs. Some of these leaders are being extended invitations to participate by the Governor's Office. Others will be filled from a pool of nominations submitted by the public.

Councilors must be available to meet on the second Monday of each month at 9 PM RhyDin Standard Time (RST) and must be frequently available throughout each month to participate in projects and events as sponsored by the Council and directed by the Governor's office. The monthly meetings will be held in the Red Dragon's Great Hall and open to the public for observation.

Nominations of individuals for positions on the Government Advisory Council should be made by 11:59 PM RhyDin Standard Time (RST) on Friday, June 3, 2011 to Governor al Amat's office (via PM). Council members and alternates will be announced on Monday, June 6, 2011. The first public Council meeting will take place on Monday, June 13, 2011.

((OOC ? I know not everyone will be able to be present at every single meeting. That's okay, as long as the person playing is active and can shoot to be there for most of them. Also not looking for a huge weekly commitment, but there will be fun things coming out of this and the plan is to encourage and spark play, interaction, debate and even the occasional controversy. If you like planning activities or have a yen to create more storylines, this could be the opportunity for you!))
