Governor Fionna Helston al-Amat and the Governor's Advisory Council,
The following is a status report on the construction of the observatory and botanical gardens in the land grant formerly owned by Ravensheart Academy. Plans for the botanical gardens have been drawn, but due to the recent harsh winter weather conditions it was necessary to place that project on hold. There has been a great deal of progress, however, on the construction of the observatory and classroom building.
The three level structure's exterior is completed. With the exception of the second floor, the interior has also been completed. The second floor is currently being outfitted with an industrial kitchen for culinary arts students. The flooring in the kitchen area has been especially constructed to support heavy appliances. This level will also house several classrooms. Some are being set up for arts such as sculpting, drawing, painting, dance, and music.
Roughly one/third of the basement level has been set aside for the pool. The pool has depths from two feet to fifteen feet to accommodate swimmers of all skill levels. Rest room and shower facilities are located in pool area. A salt water aquarium has been installed in the entrance wall. Alchemy and science laboratories have been set up in the basement rooms in order to allow the fullest protection to the other students and general populous from accidents. Walls in the labs have been carefully reinforced and built with fireproof materials. A wine cellar and wine making equipment are available. A recreation area fills the remaining space.
The ground floor is home to the media center and library to aid students in their research. Daycare facilities are available for students and faculty members. The cafe is set up as a point of sale for culinary students as well as learning restaurant management and gaining other job experience. An open area is set aside for student productions and musical entertainment.
The observatory/observation deck level features two full size domed observatories. The roof is fenced off with brick cornices that are both decorative and to help ensure the safety of those that wish to enjoy the view or participate in an open air class.
We expect to have the third floor finished by early June. This will also be the ideal time to be laying the brickwork for the front entrance ways and the rear patio area. Fountains have already been put in place in the rear of the building, but are not yet operational.
Some of the equipment was generously donated by local business owners.
Sincerely,
Rhiannon D. Harker
