Topic: The OOC Thread

For all those OOC things. Please do not use information you read here OOC as information you gather IC.

Edit: ANYONE can post here who wishes a moment of the governor's time. I repeat ANYONE! This is not a private folder!

However, conversations had with other characters that are not yours are not for IC information. The office has more wards on it than a dog has fleas. It's also daily scanned for "bugs" or various other listening devices, both magical and technological.

I posted this under the personal folder for Kitty and her family, but since I'm still getting bombarded with PMs and people wondering why I haven't posted here...here's your answer.

X-post from Around the Mullberry Bush:

Some of you know I'm pregnant. Other's don't. Well folks, we're not entirely sure of the status of that right now.

The past couple weeks I've developed this huge lump on my neck and another in another place....I'll get it checked out as soon as I have the cash for the co-pay. The point being if this is something that's just randomly growing around my body, there's a chance it could be a false pregnancy. I hope not, but I'm prepared for the worst.

Anyway...due to work, morning sickness, painful lump in my neck, and a cold I'm apparently developing on top of this...I will not be around much to play.

Kitty is officially on vacation. Chryrie is just...well...being a homebody. If I do come around to play, Chryrie will most likely be the one I use because right now she takes the least work.

Sorry folks, you'll have to deal without your Governor for a little while.

UpDate: The pregnancy is real enough, however, the lumps they're unsure about. Present prognosis is full body infection with concentrations in certain glands, tonsils, and as of last night, my bronchial tubes. If things haven't changed at the end of the antibiotics, then I gotta go back and get seriously poked at.

Hi!

For anyone reading Spiraling now who doesn't know about the opals or Matt & Koy's history with them here are some links to past threads in chronological order (if anyone's even interested lol):

Hi—I am months late to the party but just wanted to drop by and let Matt & Koy's players know, that the threads detailing the Opals as well as the fire are just delicious.

There are so many stories and so many folders that some times, I get a little overwhelmed and miss some great—amazing—writing. I'm glad I was pointed this way and I'm also glad I had the chance the last two days to sit down and read this folder.

Awesome stuff. ♥ ☻

Thanks so much for your kind words! That actually inspired me to go back and finish up the last remaining piece in one of our earlier Opal threads. Now I can stop procrastinating and get back to Spiraling. So thank you!

With absolutely NO pressure from me whatsoever, all 8 of the newly appointed 8 Council of Ministers posted speeches, and I find that amazing. It makes me giddy. You people (Wolvie, Silver, Silas, Drake, Riley, Brian, Mer and Koy) are brilliant, and I'm already pleased with the direction this storyline is going even though it's only just started.

So now....Now that everybody's given their speeches and been appointed to their positions, it's time to spread like wildfire. You're all free to drag your friends into this with side characters such as secretaries or whatever. And you're all free to post in this folder for anything Officially Related that your fantastic imaginations might come up with.

Of course, you're not the only ones with that liberty. Kitty started the "this board is for everybody" policy, and I'm keeping it, just as Matt did in his time. But now it's extended beyond anyone wanting an audience or whatever with just the governor himself. Now you can all fight for the attentions of the Ministers as well. Have fun!

Thanks a ton, Boss. Honestly, it is a blast, and more so, it's great to have Bri back, serving the city again. Note for the sake of sanity about the office, his twin daughters, Aleyah and Nathressa (they're 7) , will have a pair of mini desks in his office, and will be taking a keen interest in parks and recreation. So beware, they are a hand full indeed! If anyone happens to see blurs of red, streaking about city hall, you know who they are. ;)

OMGuh! Too freaking cute!

I have already started the search for a Deputy Minister, and have just hired a personal life-organiser - aka a personal assistant. But I think Riley may want to occasionally borrow Brian's girls.

If they ever get lost—check the Minister of Ag's office, Mer loves kids. Instead of having suckers though, she has a jar of pretzel rods. No sugaring up the kids and sending them back to Dad!

Mer's hot on the hiring trail too, in truth. She's got an intern who will likely be working as her secretary and she might have a line on a personal assistant.

Thanks guys

I am sure the wee Ravenlocks will have quite the adventures in City Hall, indeed. And thanks for the pretz's, as sugared up Ravenlock girls, are literal forces of nature. Kinda like Jenai with no coffee, lol.

Bri is also on the hunt for a staff as well, and has a line for Education, and Public Works, he is also looking for additional Animal Control Officers, as well. This should be a very kick arse outing for us all, and I can't wait.

Just to touch base with everyone.

I am working on contacting each Minister and the Governor about a Photo-Spread for the Rhydin Post.

By this I mean, 3d images created for each minister...

And yes, I'm gonna drive myself nucking futs.

Silver Starblade

Hey all...

First I must say how adorable it is to have two mini desks for your daughters. Sil's gonna jump on the bandwagon and probably steal them too for a while :)

Also, I was chatting with another minister or two and threw out the idea of a Ministers folder, so that we dont' clog the Governor's Office one and that way we aren't each applying for our own folder.

However, I understand boards only have 4 moderators - I don't mind not being a moderator. I'd rather have a board where all of us can post.

Let me know your thoughts and if it's a go -I'll request one :)

Brian Ravenlock

That is a sweet idea, and I like it. I will gladly assist in any way I can.

I have to agree. I don't mind being a moderator or not as things go, I'll just happily hop on this bandwagon while it's truckin' away.

Okay so my next questions:

1) Who WANTS to be a mod" 2) Where are the Minister's Offices located" are we all in the same building in different offices or separate buildings all together?

That's it. Once that's set i'll request. ;)

Wolvinator

Date: 2010-05-11 20:54 EST
I'd suggest it be located close by the Governor's office, since the Ministers are like his personal cabinet.

I am also a decent Mod, have modded two or three boards here in my time. Great idea! So I'll throw my hat into the ring. :)

Drake Valkonan

Date: 2010-05-11 21:07 EST
I would expect that given current staffing levels for the Ministries are single-digits at best, and the ministries themselves are new, they're most likely repurposed offices within the governor's office.

Riley ORourke

Date: 2010-05-11 21:26 EST
I think Riley and her staff of three will be officed in the Courthouse. That makes the most sense to me.

Also, I wouldn't mind being a Mod.

Koyliak

Date: 2010-05-11 22:47 EST
A folder is a great idea - I don't mind either way about being a mod or not.

I'm thinking Koy's going to set up a sort of Tourist Information Center so having an office in a central location would be fitting.

Brian Ravenlock

Date: 2010-05-12 08:04 EST
Sweet idea, Koy! I figure, on a public works office, as well, as health clinics spread about the city as well, an animal control division office (those Pigmy Albino Vampiric Dust Bunnies, are going down!), and employment assistance and of course parks and rec. As to locations, I need to poke around the map a bit.

Silver Starblade

Date: 2010-05-12 12:25 EST
Okay so as far as this goes....I figure we can each post a sticky as to where our own independent offices are, but say that we each have a small office within the governor's building.

As for mods, I'm thinking Sil, Wolvie, Riley and Techno based on expressed interest. If any of that changes, i'll let ya know.

I'll inquire about getting a board but I think we have to get the 20 post thread(s) going for the requirement. ;)

Riley ORourke

Date: 2010-05-12 19:57 EST
Okay, peeps. According to the Unofficial Map of Rhy'Din, the Courthouse and the Town Hall are in the same building. I'm gonna assume that the Governor's office is in the same place. And I'm gonna further assume that the Minister's offices would be here, as well. If I'm wrong, please tell me and I'll fix my post accordingly...and my assumptions, as well.

I was just talking to Techno's player about how this has taken off. Everyone's player is just fantastic to write/RP with.

Riley, I do think all the Ministers should have a small office in the same building as the Governor.

I did set up a larger office for Sil at the docks, since that's where her ship/business is -and a lot of the trade/commerce come through here.

Drake Valkonan

I'm sure it'll come out in play eventually, but it ought to be reasonably well-known that Drake took over a small room in the Governor's office building as his own department. (And promptly expanded it to like ten times its former size, with SCIENCE.)

One of Drake's posts gave me an idea on how to balance what Silas would want with what would be convenient for the Governor, the other Ministers, and concerned citizens — a door at or near the Gov. + Cabinet's offices, that (through MAGIC! Neener-neener, science!) leads to his workshop across town.

If that works for you guys? I'll go ahead and post something to that effect this weekend. =) Also, this really is some awesome stuff, and I can't wait to jump in with the rest of you!

Okay....SUPER late to the party. I've had a very busy week that's kept me offline.

As to the idea of a a folders specifically designed for the ministers....If you guys want to do that, go ahead, though I see no real need. For the past three years, this folder (The Governor's Office) hasn't had a whole lot of activity, and I'm personally loving the increase in activity that we're providing for it now. You all have done a spectacular job in your writing, and though I haven't seen much of it personally I've no doubt in your RP of these new positions as well.

I don't see how posting in this folder is "cluttering things up." I think posting in this folder is "finally putting it to extended use." Before, this folder saw minimal use of a few scattered threads mostly posted by Kitty and Matt in their time. Every so often there was the occasional post from anyone else trying to get the Governor's attention, but not much. I like seeing this folder being put to use myself. Which leads me to the other question you guys asked...

Where are the offices of the Ministers located" Well, first and foremost that's entirely up to you. But I agree that I think there is at least an office in the main building itself. I had actually intended on writing a thread about that, something to do with "Renovations," but life has been bogging me down this past week and I haven't been able to let my creativity soar as brilliantly as you lot have so far.

I'd say that each Minister at least has a "main office" as directed to being in the main City Hall, or whatever, but that's not to say that's where they conduct most of their business. They could, as Warlock suggested, just be doors that magically open a rift or portal to another location, making the office much bigger than it should logically be (see: fit in this space what"). Anything's possible. There are no limits but your own imagination.

THAT said....You guys definitely put a smile on my week. Hopefully life lets go of me and lets me write a few things of my own here. After all that campaigning and setting up the Minister positions, though, I tell you....My muse and I needed a short vacation. We'll be back very soon.

Keep up the amazing work, you guys! I'm glad you're all enjoying this SL as much as I am.

Hello Governor! *waves*

Okay so I'll keep the Ministers here then. It was an idea to roll with because I know some people were thinking about requesting their own folder. I don't mind posting all my Minister stuff here :)

I already set up an office for Silver in the docks with the intention of having a smaller office in the same building as the Governor. It would be great to start an "office" thread once everyone decides.

Like I said, this has been great so far!

Come to think of it....I think I'd sooner petition to get the name of this folder changed from "The Governor's Office" to "City Hall" or "RhyDin City Hall." Though really, if everybody wants to try to get their own folders for the positions, I have no problem with that either. I'm not exactly In Charge of how you run your stories. All I can do is share my opinions on them and offer suggestions. I'll favor whatever the majority decides.

I think...it might be a good idea to codify the Governor's folder to be something more along the lines of the Forums (RhyDin Town Center, WestEnd, The Scathachian Sanctuary, etc.). To me, it feels like the folder's ownership goes beyond the current governor, or the governor's current player. I think it belongs to the site at large, and I think past precedent, where Kitty/Kitty's player passed the moderator baton onto Matt Simon/Matt's player should be emulated in some way. Whether that's making moderation of the folder more of an OOC site administrative thing with an IC moderator of the governor, or just making it a more binding policy that the current governor moderates the folder during the time of his/her/its term, I have no real leaning towards either way.

Thoughts?

PrlUnicorn

Maybe not, but think in long term. Who thought the Governor's Office would need its own board at the beginning as opposed to a thread stuffed in some far off corner" Some of the Ministers' players are already going hog wild with ideas. If the Governor SL continues, odds are the positions of Ministers won't be going away.

So, amend the suggestion. The standard rule of 20 (or is it 25 posts") should apply. Those that have the required number, should be allowed the option of a folder for their Ministry Office. Those that don't, well, it's moot isn't it?

I also suggest dropping a note to the person in charge of board creation to see if they are willing to divide this up and give mod controls over a potential City Hall Board (subforum) to the player of the current governor as well as mod tools to the players of the Ministers.

That would be me. I have my reservations about this. There's a lot of activity right now, but what happens a few months from now? Not saying that any of you will lose interest, but life happens.

I understand and respect your reservations, however, isn't that a bit unfair given that many players request boards without additional stipulations involved" Shouldn't these players be given the same chance, just like everyone else beginning a new SL, providing that minimum requirement of 20 posts is met' This is not asking for what is special, this is asking for what is fair under requirements for new boards.

However, I've had my say and it's up to Dris and those playing Ministers to follow through on what they feel is right.

Riley ORourke

I don't think that Amaltea was saying that she was against making another folder for the Ministers. I think she was saying that she was against making another...uh...I have no idea what to call it, but I'm gonna go with subforum, like Whispers in the Night or WestEnd or Dragon's Spine. For right now. And I agree. Another folder, like my Zen Gardens or even this one, would be nice, but I think using this one suits our purposes fine for now. If, in the fall or whenever, we find we do actually want a separate ...uh....subforum or even a folder, then maybe we should talk about it again.

A - make sense" B - make the correct assumption about Amaltea's reservations"

You're right, Riley, and the term I hear the administration uses around here is Super Folder. What Collie's suggesting does sound ideal, but I find that I have to side with Amaltea on this.

There are currently only 9 extremely active players in this SL. Only 9. Taking a look at the results of the 2010 Election Poll puts a little more perspective on her reservations. That poll shows us that there are at least 80 individual players on Dragon's Mark, given that the rules of the poll state that there may only be one vote per player, and I know Amaltea has the means to verify that from her position.

Myself, playing the governor, and the 8 of you I picked to play ministers only accounts for 9 out of (at least) 80 total individual members/people who share this community forum on Dragon's Mark. That's only 11% of the role-playing population here. And even from my point of view, that's not really a large enough number of interested parties.

I can name two Super Folders already that have been removed from these forums due to lack of interest and activity. There's the RhyDin Museum Complex that has been catacombed. I can see it. I'm pretty sure everybody else can too, but there it sits in the Catacombs category of these forums, unused since last April of 2009. The other Super Folder was Kairee's Splendiferous. I think that one's just hidden and not catacombed, but I don't see it anymore.

I think if you're going to compare the Governor's SL to any other Super Folder available, it should be the Scathachian Sancutary and not the WestEnd. The SS Super Folder is designed for a very specific and centralized storyline, whereas WestEnd is open to any location anyone wants to shove in there (with I think Sid's approval). I don't know how many individual players are involved in the SS group, but I know they've kept that folder going strong for years. Since the beginning of this site, I'm fairly sure.

In brief, I agree with Amaltea. Let's see how well this "expansion" takes off, if at all. Wait and see if by next year the next governor likes the idea well enough to continue it his or herself. We're breaking ground here, that's for sure. I think what we should do is work hard to encourage more interest and other player participation. If we can make that grow, then I'd say we've accomplished something great here and well deserving of a super folder. But not yet.

For the sake of being a completist, more than anything else: I believe there is a third super-folder that also eventually was hidden from sight due to lack of use. Jodiah Ayreg (DM SN Lord Ayreg) had a super-folder for a decent period of time, before the player stopped using it and it was eventually removed. So I know it's a limited sample size, but I think it's safe to say that, whether it's super-folders or just regular, plain old folders, there's an extremely high turnover rate in usage, just as there's a high turnover rate in general for characters and SLs.

The Museum complex was Catacombed at the request of the player. If I remember correctly, the Lead Mod for that set was so bogged down with RL issues she had to cut back on Play time.

But, it is a good point, as the Catacombs are full of folders where people had lost time, interest or even players...

Hey guys,

This is just an OOC post to the Letter that was posted HERE.

The Avengers Initiative is, for lack of a better word, a Super Hero group of Rhy'Din's Heroes and Heroines. Hopefully the Governor will approve it *Evil Eye!* and I can get a playable posted so we can start having people volunteer to join.

Here's just a few things:

1. It's open to everyone! No, there really isn't a screening process, thats just for fun, we just want some mature players looking to have fun and be involved. New characters, older ones, whatever! :)

2. We need involvement! :) I'm not asking everyone to sell of their kids or get divorced to be a part, but I just want people to join who can be active, want to take parts in Story Lines and enjoy being part of a group dynamic.

3. It's classified! :P So lets not have anyone have unauthorized knowledge of what?s going on. Let's have fun with it and let it be all mysterious for a while.

4. I have no intentions of infringing on anyone elses Storylines, unless people want to join in on the fun. Basically, there's been a lot of talk about Laws recently, and The Avengers aren't going to run through a bagillion threads and start hammering out the baddies. You may receive a PM or an OOC-Thread post (if ya have one) if we want to play with you, or you can certainly do the same if you want to collaborate.

5. There will be a playable put out once it's "approved" so everyone can join in. This is just like a precursor to actual recruiting.

This thread is open to everybody, but not necessarily the sort of thing that should include information that Rhy'Din at large would be privy to knowing. I wanted to include something a little fun, light-hearted and silly to the whole seriousness of government. That thought was hugged tightly by how often I giggle every time I read an article in The Post regarding anything related to Dris and his newly formed government.

So the idea is....Dris does read the newspaper. I thought it'd be amusing to provide some insight into what he thinks about the things he reads. By saying this thread is open, I mean that all of the Ministers and anyone else involved in the Government "expansion" storyline is free to add to it with their own character's insight into such things if such inspiration strikes you as it does me.

Enjoy!

This is an OOC post for the post located HERE and the playable located HERE.

These letters are basically mailed to anyone that is interested, hence why I just put ((Insert Characters name here)). This is open to everyone to join, so if you want in, you can play off of the fact that your character was one of the lucky few to receive the letter. :)

As I said before, we're not really doing the "screening process". Basically, if your character is interested please copy, fill out and paste your characters' replies in "The Initiative" thread. All information is considered secret, so no one outside the Avengers would have any exterior knowledge of what is going on.

If you want your characters Identity to be "Secret" then please list such in the resume, otherwise identities will be considered public. Try to list your powers, be in depth if you'd like but don't feel obligated to, and add in any notes you see fit.

We're really interested in having people join in on the fun, and I think this could lead to some really cool global storylines and playables. If you have any questions, feel free to reply here or PM me. Also, be sure to check the first OOC Post HERE.

Hey guys, we had a grand old meeting tonight in the inn and things went great! I'm really excited with everyone that is involved so far.

I told a few of the members to report to Wolvie's office "tomorrow at 9am". Of course, this isn't the real time. I wanted to give everyone a few days to join, especially since the weekend is coming up, and there may be people that haven't replied yet and are wanting to.

By no means is membership closing, in fact I think it should remain open indefinitely. But once we get the initial members down pat we'll close out of the "recruiting phase" and just move into operations.

So, expect a post either Sunday or Monday about meeting in the Ministry of Defense office and we'll just go from there.

Also I'm working on The Avengers Wiki, which has the Charter and some other important information. Click the link to follow.

Hey everyone, really cool update. I had some inventory items made up to give to members of the Avengers. So, mostly everyone whose applied has gotten one, save for the latest two applicants (Cloven Hoof and Vextirias) as Wolvie has yet to meet with them personally; and Mihaela whose assumed the role of specialized consultant.

So everyone check your inventory, and if you have an Official Avengers Insignia you're in like flynn. :) If you have one of these in your inventory by Monday, then you will be able to participate in the next storyline. which will be the meeting in the Ministry of Defense office. So be on the lookout for that!

Lastly, depending on how active everything is, I may request the Avengers to have their own sub forum, so not to clutter the Governor's office too much, but we'll see how that goes.

Again, I appreciate everyone's interest in the Storyline and I think we have the potential for some great Roleplay!!

Hi! Sorry I haven't been able to post much - playing into the government in the chat has been easier to do for the last few days but hope to fix that soon! - I was just wondering though is the forming of the Avengers common knowledge to the other ministers now if they're not applying for spots" Also who else would know about them"

Wolvinator

Date: 2010-05-23 22:51 EST
Yes. The Avengers initiative is common knowledge to the other ministers, since Dris approved it, but it's formation is secret to everyone whose *not* involved.

Just some OOC notes for the SL thread 'The Diamond Files.'

This is an open SL thread so come on come all to interact with Diamond in your own little way or fancy.

The storyline if anything is just a unique way for each character to give insight on their backgrounds, their lives, their thoughts and so on and so forth....more so for Diamond to get a better understanding of each and every one of them for the 'files' she keeps for Wolvinator.

The files of course and their contents will be classified. The contents only to the knowledge of Esme, Wolvinator, and of course those who the files are for.

There is one of two ways that such can be obtained- One way is to have the character thinking/dreaming/ what have you in which Esme would be pretty much just 'along for the ride' or in not so nice terms...a voyeur.

The other option is to have your character personally interact with Esme on the dream landscape where she would be welcomed in their mind and thus sharing an experience with them.

If the latter is of interest to you, send me a PM so we can arrange something along the lines of her being in their head and having that experience shared with them....or if you would prefer actual roleplay interaction or what have you. Just so there isn't any worry of toes being stepped on.

I ramble I know so I'll stop here. If you have any questions just ask! Thanks and enjoy the thread!

In the Rough

Date: 2010-05-27 22:33 EST
As an afterthought for the Diamond Files please be advised that your character does not have to be willing or open to the interactions with Esme.

She's not going to invade their minds or do anything like that....but how you wish the SL to run for your char in the thread is entirely up to you.

If anything this is all just a different way to have a bit of 'getting to know you.'

Have fun and do with it as you please

Public Murder Scandal!

This storyline is open, but involvement is limited to within specific parameters.

I want you tall to treat this thread like a novel. Each post made by each individual is something the reader should consider privileged OOC information. Not everything you read is something all characters are going to be aware of.

Please no play-by-posts. Those annoy me. I want those of you who reply to the thread to think of it like writing a short story addition for your character and yours alone. If you want to write something that involves someone else's character, such as having Dris and Neo interact, which is likely to happen, I'm going to ask that you get together with the other player(s) and collaborate on a single bit of writing and decide which of you is going to post the complete "chapter" for inclusion into the thread.

That said, anyone and everyone is free to post to the thread. Certainly more characters than solely Governor Driscol read The RhyDin Post, and rumors may be spreading about this incident already. Especially for those characters who happened to be present and accounted for the night that the event in question actually went down.

Sooo....If you get inspired and want to add to the Novel to Be, have at it! Let's make this side-SL as amazing as we possibly can!

In the Round 2 portion of the Avengers Assemble Thread, I'm basically trying to work around the timeline, since we have some late applicants.

I figured that we could have people show up around 10am to start the second round of introductions, with the other Avengers present, to just get everyone all introduced and on their way. :) Sorry if it's a bit confusing but I want to have the entire team in one place for the beginning of this whole thing.

Okay, I am going to try and clear up some confusion.

I am trying to keep the timeline linear for the Avengers Assemble thread. We've had a lot of applicants, but not everyone applied at the same time. My goal is to meet all of the applicants in an IC and OOC fashion, and touch base with everyone before they can post in the Assemble thread.

Once I've met with you, you'll get an Avengers Inventory item, which can be doubled as a "badge" if you want to play it that way, but more than anything it's to signal to everyone OOC that you're in the group.

Anyone who has already applied, and hasn't met with me, still has their application "pending", so you guys are fine. However, I'm asking that no one else apply because the group has gotten rather large, very quickly. I've been away the past few days, so I'm sorry it took some time for me to get back to anyone on this.

And lastly, yes it was open to everyone, however because I am assembling everything I do reserve the right to actually filter applicants out if necessary.

Any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

That is a different prospective on linear.....I would have considered them (turning in the application vs arriving at the meeting) to be two different linear events. They aRe two different events. But I can role with it. It would be like Dorag to be a little late.

Still....I would hate to hold up the other players or likewise, be left behind just because you and I haven't gotten together in a live chat room, which is what I suspect is what you really want. I don't even have a clue when a good time is to catch you in a chat room, or if a PM would be acceptable. I haven't even received a PM from you regarding this.

As far as I'm concerned, we've already met in an IC and OOC fashion, both of which are on this board.

So.....if that's good enough, Can I post in the meeting now"

If it 's not good enough, then help me remedy that situation. I would hate to be left behind or even cause others to wait just because you and I can't seem to get it together here. When's a good time to meet with you?

You're right, the letter and the meeting are two different events. What I was talking about was the meeting. The way it was played out was that Vinny was the last person to speak, and that was the end. So, as with RP, I had to put a spin on things to keep them going smoothly. That's why I stated the second round of applicants would arrive at 10am.

Still....I would hate to hold up the other players or likewise, be left behind just because you and I haven't gotten together in a live chat room, which is what I suspect is what you really want.

You are correct on the last part, however no one is being held up. This thread is really just an introduction thread to sort of get everyone together. No one is being held up or left behind because it's happening on the boards.

I don't even have a clue when a good time is to catch you in a chat room, or if a PM would be acceptable. I haven't even received a PM from you regarding this.

I've siad before that a PM is more than acceptable. I haven't been around in a few days so I haven't touched base with others yet either. I was enjoying a nice, long, Holiday weekend. :)

Just a quick little update concerning the Watch playable and SL -

I've had five responses, so we've got all four nights covered, plus a swing guy to cover if someone can't show up. A giant thank you to One Lucky Spider, Neo Eternity, DavidLo, Taj Kohli, and Yejix Zabru.

I'm working on inventory items for you all - a little badge 'cos we need steenking badges. And I'd like for you guys to think about uniforms - what colours, what style, stuff like that. Also, would you like to be called Constables or Officers? And finally, I'd like to see if there's a night that all six of us can meet for some "training" and stuff like that.

Now, some further thoughts I've had. Looking at the Unofficial Map of Rhydin, it appears that the place is nicely segregated into existing precincts. So for the purposes of this SL, starting from the northeast corner and working in a westerly manner, Precinct One is where the RDI is located. Precinct Two is where the Marketplace and the Courthouse are located. Precinct Three is across the river to the southeast and includes the Museum, Temple to the Gods and the Library. Precinct Four is where the Orphanage is. And Precinct Five is made up of WestEnd and the Docks. The players whose characters answered my playable request are all stationed in Precinct One, because the Inn is part of their beat. If other people would like to join the Watch, you will be assigned another Precinct and a specific beat, too.

Anyway, let's keep doing what we're doing! I've been having a blast and would really like to thank everyone who's played into the SL so far.

Yejix Zabiru

The idea of being called a Constable makes me giggle, so let's go with that.

Also, a uniform idea i had is somewhat similar to what Yejix already wears on a habitual basis. Matching cargo pants and vest with mythril pauldrons on the vest, kevlar weave in both garments treated to be fireproof and acidproof with rank pips on the right side of the collar. standard military boots, a standard grendelhide belt with silver buckle that has a cuff pouch, ammo clip pouch and standard sidearm, as well as a sheathe for a sword (just in case). All uniforms would be jinxed to resist most low-level magickal attacks.

I can have Yejix fund all this and even do the designing and weapons issuing: he -does- have a massive surplus he needs to put to use. PM me with what you think we should be outfitted with standardly and i'll see if he has it in stock.

I completely agree with both of you. Constable is what I'm used to - it's what we call our beat cops back home, after all - and it does indeed produce giggles. So, Constable it is.

Also, another thing I've been thinking about: how many of you have read Terry Pratchett's Disc World series? If not, YOU MUST! I'd suggest starting with "Guards! Guards!" because you will see some of that material again. :)

I'll second this. Constable sounds more formal and feeds rather nicely into Lucky taking things too formal. It's his first time after all, can't blame the big guy for being nervous.

Whatever uniform we agree on, Lucky's isn't complete without a Barney Fife hat. It's also less painful than pinning it to his fur.

Yay Inventory Items! Everyone signed up so far with the Precinct One Watch House should have a nifty, sparkly badge in their inventories. If you haven't received it, lemme know ASAP!

I'm looking at sometime next week to do our first training session - possibly Thursday after Neo's shift is over. If this won't work for you guys, give me a time that will and we'll see what we can do.

And finally, as David and Riley found out last night, sometimes it's better for the Watch to have a partner, so ideally, I'd like to have two Watch...er...people" on each shift. If you currently play a Watch member or if you've always wanted to, please let me know and sign up for a shift. You'll have my undying gratitude, respect and a nifty, sparkly badge of your own! How can you pass that up" ;-)

In an effort to not further clutter up The Governor's Office folder, I plan on moving the "Avengers Assemble!" thread and the "Diamond Files" to a new forum so that it can be moderated by the Avengers and managed there. "The Initiative" thread will remain in the Governor's office folder, as it should. :)

I figured that the OOC boards and the regular sub-forum could get very cluttered with Avengers stuff, and I want to avoid that. I'll give it a few days for anyone to object before I make a formal request. So far, I plan on having Wolvie and Diamond as admins. If anyone else wants to jump in as a mod, please send me a PM.

You've done an amazing job setting up this branch of the government, Wolvie! And all of you involved in the SL are amazing. Just an FYI...

The Force is something that can be researched if anyone needs to know more about it. It's a Star Wars thing, for those without a clue —- okay really someone might be clueless, you never know.

Anyway. Or you can ask me and I'll try to explain it for those that don't quite get how to play with it. I know it can be confusing, but please do ask if you don't understand anything. I'd be glad to try and explain.

For example: The Force does not trickle into anything. It does not Taste anyone's powers. The Force is already in and a part of Everything from one degree to the next. Being Force sensitive allows you to see the Force and to manipulate or guide it to various uses depending on training depth.

And when Leun is using it to sense her surroundings, that doesn't mean she's trying to automatically bust into anyone's thoughts. It just means she's using to see everything around her, all the obsticles and what people are doing, without using her eyes or having to be in direct line of sight. She can feel emotions coming off of others, unless it's stated in the play that they are shielded. She can also pick up surface thoughts if the Force flows that way, or the thoughts are broadcast that loud. One could say that the Force has a will of its own sometimes. Which means, it's whatever I want to do with it. So if your character puts thoughts out there and you don't state a shield over them, Leun could possibly pick them up without even really trying.

Hope that helps. If not, PM me and we'll deal with it there.

While it's fabulous that you play it that way, other people could have a different interpretation of "The Force" and how it is used. Also remember that some people will not recognize or play into your particular vision of the Force and what can and can't be done with it.

I understand being irritated over details of a story you love so much, and wanting every little detail just so but this (RhyDin) being a place where you can do or be anything, you just have to adjust to some people doing whatever they want with the Force, and other things. Just the way it goes.

Good luck to ya!

First, I never said I was irritated. Second, people are entitled to their opinion and I'm fully aware that people have different views and ways of playing in RhyDin and I do try to respect that for their characters ....which was the reason of the post, to explain a little of mine and open the door to other means of discussion so as not to clutter the board. FYI, this ain't my first rodeo. If they don't want to respect the way I play it for my character, then that would be showing how rude they are. I don't know about anyone else, but I get no enjoyment out of playing with rude people.

Personally I want to thank Leuni, for posting what she did with the heads up, and more so commend her for it. It can be hard playing a charrie with canon, at times. She has provided not only a geniune explanation of her abilities, but also an 'out' for anyone who does not wish to play in regards to those abilities.

The 'Force' to Jedi and Sith, and more so, those who are force sensitive, is indeed a part of everything, and can be manipulated by them, as well. Now there are also 'outs' to anything and everything, so if you have a charrie and you do not want them to be effected by the Force, so be it. And no issue. Just talk with her, and I am sure all will be handed in a good manner, and play can resume.

She had already made ready to adjust to the whims and wishes of other players, who may not want to play 'force' related issues, by asking them to PM her.

So all is well.

I do not believe Aja was trying to be rude by any means, as well. More so, she was offering a realistic feel of how some players may come across in dealing with things.

The name of the game is options, and Leuni has offered that to anyone ahead of time, and that is the best way to deal with things, all around.

Thanks again.

No one carries the exact same definition when it comes to ambiguous entities like "The Force" or "Magick". So results will vary.

Leun offered how she plays out her interpretation, Aja's player acknowledged that and issued not every player will take it that way. Of course when you're playing something canon, it coems with its own set of problems if two uber-fans get their schwartz twisted.

Once someone takes a character that's developed from an established story/world, canon, if you will, they are no longer really playing within that canon. They are playing their interpretation of it. Otherwise, every Jedi that falls in love, marries, etc. is doomed to Vader's fate. Harry Potter will never marry Hermione Granger and so on.

::giggles:: Depends which way the schwartz gets twisted. +naughty+ Sorry, couldn't resist.

Yeah, I've had some conversations, both good and bad, with other uber fans and for the most part we've had some wonderful times smoothing out the wrinkles of our different views and ways of using what was once cannon material ....One in particular I really miss a lot right now. One of the few I've had the pleasure of playing with who never made the ironing a chore. It was always, always a pleasure. When I grow up, I wanna be just like that someday.

Anyway, I've always said that where there is a will to work things out, there's a way to make it work although rarely is it ever accomplished without some give and take on all sides.

hey. just to let ya know. i posted something in the playables about icesong about the watch. i should have asked pemisson. sorry

Permission isn't at all necessary. Though the people involved in the Government SL right now are heavily incorporating the Watch into their stories and role-play, these people are not the creators of the idea of the Watch and therefore do not own it as intellectual property. The Watch itself was in play long before the Ministries started using it themselves and putting a bigger emphasis on them. So it's nothing to worry yourself about.

The only part of the Watch that "we" have ownership over are our own characters who are involved with the Watch. If you were to have referenced one of these individual characters (Neo, Riley, Jin, etcetera) without first asking, then it would be something to contest. Otherwise it's fair game, so enjoy!

Ehz + Brian = WIN!

Thanks for the laugh. I am very much looking forward to seeing those litter boxes implemented.

I wanna thank Ehz, for what has easily been the funniest letter Brian has ever gotten, hands down. And more so, I look foward to what is to come, as Brian is deadly serious about meeting with her, and learning more.

Also like Ehz said, fire off those letters of concern. The man has a job to do, and citizens to serve, but be warned..

Some may be answered by his little assistants...

Or a sugar hyper induced Mithra

So bring it, yo!

Just another Day is open to anyone that wishes to interact with Minister Starblade's secretary in any form or fashion. To make requests of the Minister or even to learn of a gypsy in a location where she's just so out of place and likely sticking out like a sore thumb ::grin:: Have fun.

What do y'all think about adding the day you're on shift at the RDI to your profile? PM or answer here. Thanks!

Greetings, folks.

I'm making this post on behalf of Dris-player. As some of you may have noticed, Dris has been remarkably absent of late in play. Most of you already know the reason for this, but for those of you who do not, Dris's player has been celebrating and taking care of a very new addition to the family. That baby will no doubt be very loved, and I'm sure you will all join me in congratulating the family and sending them our well-wishes!

ICly, Dris's situation has not yet been explained (the player is very busy, as I'm sure you can imagine!). For now, we have decided to go with a "Governor gone missing" angle. If there are any questions about that, please contact me and I'll do my best to get those answers to you right away. Of particular mention is that this arc is not complete yet, nor is it set in stone. There just needed to be some explanation for now.

You may now resume your regularly scheduled internet browsing. ;P

"I want a raise. And my own office. And a pony."

LOL!

I've been so busy with Christmas and everything that I haven't been able to get back to check these boards until today. So, Erin.....I'm sorry I flaked out on you. Hopefully I can get back around to writing something again some time soon so that I don't have to explain another mysterious absence with hilarity the way I did here. With much thanks to Harris for the idea.

Wanted to chime in and thank all of you for keeping things going in my absence. All of the stories over here are great. I love them. Wish I had more time to contribute to them better, but the family addition keeps me busier than I would have ever thought.

Miss you all! Happy New Year!

The auction closed yesterday and the winner of Edward Batten's private reserve bourbon was ....Edward Batten!

IC, we know the proceeds are going to the memorial fund, but some of you may be wondering, 'Hey, Fiomun! What are you going to do with the 25,000 silvers you just snarfed from Ed's player?'

I'm going to be using them to produce icons to distribute from the Governor's Office for special things this year - could be events, could be great inclusive storylines, could be citizenship awards....lots of ideas and plenty of opportunities, so watch for them as they come!

Allow me to take a minute here to specifically thank Lelah Rivka's player, because she sent me three awesome print public service ads featuring the cast of Lelah's movie to use with the RBF playables.

Since she gave them to me to post rather than putting them up under her SN, I wanted to make sure she got credit for the fantastic work she did on them. They are really great and everyone will be seeing them pop up in playable posts.

Thanks, Lelah-player!

The easiest explanation is that they followed Doc from the Inn given the fight in progress at the time of the post.

Sidenote: I often use the Cyber-eyes as a vehicle to record the events around Raye. How she uses that information is another story, in most cases, she has been purging it.

Couple of things:

1. I'm taking a class for some CEs, and am in the last week of it (running through Weds.). Very busy with assignments and the upcoming test, so I haven't been around much and probably won't be much until next weekend. FYI. Not ignoring anyone, just very busy.

2. I have been getting lots of IMs from people asking if I really am not having Fio run again and asking my opinion on whether or not they should run. Fio is not running again. If you want to run, then run. Please don't ask me. I won't offer opinions to anyone and my answer will continue to be just that. If you want to run, then run.

Also, just for the record, I am not making this decision because the 'job was a pain' and the variations of that suggestion I've been hearing. I have LOVED doing it. Do not get me wrong: what I have been doing the past two years is a LOT of work, but I truly feel it was a privilege and an honor to be able to give back to the community. So in a way, I retract a little of what I just said about opinions. If you aren't willing to commit the time and aren't running because you want to work hard to help the game for EVERYone, then don't run.

But you don't need to ask me about that. Ask yourself.

You are an amazing player, Fio. You have been nothing but polite, courteous, kind and understanding to me. Your patience and ability to roll with whatever punches, IC or OOC thrown your way is near divinity material. Your willingness to RP any scene at any time with anyone and write with any SL to the best of your ability is something that, as a fellow player, I think is something I should strive to attain someday in my own play.

The fact that you have been consistent, constant and dedicated for the entirety of two years is something I find amazing, given what I (and many players already know) understand about the unique experiences role playing in any community can bring.

In short: thank you. Thank you for shouldering the burden when my mother passed. Thank you for your tireless work. You left pretty big shoes to fill and I sincerely hope you continue to be a beacon of awesomesauce and kick a@@ in this community.

Okay.

First: Awesome. Thanks for all the support and electing Rekah.

Second: I am NOT good with organizing meetings and keeping those things straight. So, if anyone would like to help with GAC meetings that would be fabulous...otherwise-they'll be happening like every two months...

Third: I want this to be more of a community position-which means I'll be asking and relying on a lot of people for help. That's just how I roll.

Fourth: I hope to make this a lot of fun.

That's all I got right now.

Please PM if you want to help or have any ideas.

Remember Rekah is governor. She's not precisely politically minded, nor does she play the rules of society. So I can't promise more than a lot of ridiculousness and fun.
