She adjusted the leather mini skirt and white buttoned up shirt, though it might as well have been left fully open for the amount of buttons that were left undone, one more time before making her way into the department where Issy was being held. She was doubling up disguises for this little venture: the nametag pinned to her breast, such a convenient location, declared her to be one "Angelina Lynch' from The Oracle while ears, rounded with the aid of glamour and hidden beneath black curls, declared her to be human.

She pushed open the door into the main office before the holding cells and just had to smile, this was simply too easy. There were just two men inside at the moment and both looked up at her entrance and didn't remove their eyes as she moved further inside. Her target was the man sitting closer to her, the superior of the two if the size of his desk and age told her anything, and she approached him with a bright smile forming on her lips to replace the momentary confusion she had forced upon stepping into the room.

He just stared at her as she came around his desk instead of stopping before it and leaned get a look at his badge, "Lieutenant Reilly, is it?" Flashing him a smile purposefully engineered to make any man's pulse quicken as she straightened up. At his nod of confirmation'that, that was in fact his name"her smile only widened. "I'm Angelina," she let the name roll of her tongue, "I'm from The Oracle. I'm here to do a story on that murderer"that woman who wears all the black"that you have locked up here." She thrust her chest forward ever so slightly just so he wouldn't miss the nametag that confirmed who she was. He certainly didn't.

"I'm um'sorry Miss Angelina"no one is allowed to see the prisoner." There was something about watching a middle-aged man, salt and pepper hair already starting to recede, stutter like a little school boy that made her laugh inside.

She didn't show her appreciation for the effect she had on him. Rather, she became deflated, shoulders falling as she sunk, perching herself with legs slightly apart on the corner of his desk. Was that a quick flash of red lace" She did her best to look absolutely heartbroken over his declaration, warm chocolate eyes"glamour really was amazing"looked ready to well up with tears. "Oh"oh no. That's awful. This is my first big story for the paper and my boss said don't bother to come back if I don't get the interview!"

Whether it was that flash of red or the threat of tears, it didn't really matter which, the Lieutenant became very compliant. "Now hunny, don't you worry. I'm sure we could figure out something," he shot a look to the inferior officer to make sure he'd keep his mouth shut. "I think I can make an exception for you?"

She didn't let him finish, just bounced right up and threw her arms around him in a hug, "Oh thank you!"

As she let him go from that glorious hug, "We'll just step back there together for a few minutes and?"

"Together?" She pouted those full, glossed lips out a bit, "My boss said to get the criminal alone"that way she won't be afraid to tell me any details."

"Now hun"I just don't think I could do that?"

She didn't let him finish again, "I guess you'll have to frisk me to make sure I'm not carrying any weapons first before I go back there by myself?" She made it seem like a question and from the look on Reilly's face she had just sealed the deal"a few minutes with Issy alone.

He eagerly jumped up now, "That's right"I'll just check you for weapons and then give you a few minutes with the prisoner. If you'll just put your arms up for me."

She complied, trying not to grimace as he started under her arms and began to run his hands down her sides with some unnecessary patting here and there"it wasn't like she could hide a weapon in this outfit anyways! He went antagonizingly slow, invading her personal space. "You smell nice," she murmured quietly as she was practically drowning in his over-bearing cologne.

He stopped his hands on her hips a moment before continuing down her legs and back up again. She concealed her shiver of disgust as he dared to reach under her skirt just a bit. He didn't push it any further than that, not with another officer in the room. Fortunate for him too, she might have had to blow her cover just to knock him out.

He took a steadying breath as he stepped back from her, "You're all clean, miss. I'll just show you to the back now"give you a few minutes."

She took his arm as he escorted her to the cells, "Oh, I don't know how I can repay you for this." She was sure he could think of a few things but he could just keep dreaming.

"She's in there, miss"third cell. If she tries anything funny you just call out for help." She gave him a nod and another one of those makes-your-pulse-race smiles as he went back to his desk and she went in to find Issy.

"Of all the disgusting pigs?" she grumbled, shuddering at how dirty she felt. She'd need to spend the rest of the afternoon taking a hot shower after this was over.

Isuelt opened her eyes. She hadn't necessarily been sleeping, more like shutting herself away from her terribly grim state of reality.

Sure...whatever worked when there was no whiskey around.

She could hear another guard coming, though she thought that was odd since the change of personnel couldn't have occurred more than an hour ago. Perhaps it was true what they said about being in prison: You lose all sense of time.

However, as the footsteps came closer, she could have sworn she heard a feminine voice muttering. And what was more, the heel clicks didn't sound like the usual guard trottng. There was no gentle clanging of armor against leather. No, this sounded different....like high heels?

The Scathachian, still seated on the floor, didn't move from the straw covering. Instead, she arched one brow and directed her dark eyes toward the small barred window in the door of her cell.

Once done griping over the insult done to her physical person she started to pay attention to where she was and where she was going. The officer had said third cell so she looked back and counted the doors. Whoops! She had already passed the third.

Directing her stiletto steps back a bit she stopped before the third wooden door. Fortunately, the heels gave her added height otherwise she would have had to go on tip-toes to see in through the barred window in the door.

"Psst...Issy, you in there?"

She had obviously given up all pretense of being discrete, not thinking that perhaps the guards could hear her from their station.

"It's Jewell." You know, just in case Issy had lost all mental capacity and couldn't tell. She did look slightly different, brown eyes not grey peering in through those bars.

"Jewell?"

Her question echoed the voice flowing from between the bars. Her bare feet (for her blade-loaded boots had been confiscated) slid along the straw-covered stone as she slowly stood up. There was a crick in her back which the Judge firmly chose to ignore as she moved to the door. Her bare hands pressed themselves against the wood which separated Isuelt from her friend, her eyes peered through the small opening to see Jewell's blessed face looking back at her.

Isuelt couldn't help but smile, in fact, tears very nearly overflowed from her lashes. She hadn't seen anyone, save for garrison personnel, since she was brought here two days ago.

"What are you doing here" I....I'm so glad to see you...." that was all her raspy voice would afford.

"Hey there, Sista." She smiled brightly as Issy's face popped into view, trying to keep her tone cheerful although it killed her to see her friend behind bars.

"I'm the only one they'd let in...with a little persuasion so I'm here to bust you out." Little wink to show she was kidding. "Actually, I wish I was here for that...I could probably get the keys from that officer." A little glance back down the hallway and she shuddered. She didn't even want to think about what she'd have to do to get the keys.

She looked back to Issy and kept her smile firmly in place to encourage The Judge, "I am here to convey warm greetings and love from your Sisters, who are worried sick about you and going crazy themselves. I will also relay back any messages you want to send, instructions...and information as to what exactly we are facing here."

She waved her little notebook into view, "I can even write it all down."

She let out a deep sigh and hung her head, eyes to the floor. Although she leaned back from the door, her fingers slithered through the bars to hold on to the thick wooden door. Of course she had been thinking about her Sisters since she realized what was happening, since she had been stripped of her weapons, boots, and sash. The latter being the hardest to part with.

Isuelt nodded slowly, her voice quiet enough for the Empress to just hear, "I know...tell them that I'm fine. That..that this is all just a misunderstanding." She looked up and smiled to Jewell, "I mean they will let me out of here soon. They can't keep me locked up forever. Whoever is doing this will do it again. And with me in here and another head on the chopping block, they'll see that I'm innocent." The truth in her words chilled her; to think that she would most likely owe her freedom to the massacre of innocents. Again, irony made an appearance.

"I guess...I guess you could also tell them not to do anything too rash. We are partners of the law, not lawbreakers, you know?" another soft expression. "Make sure Laufeia and Trixie know that for certain. Their tempers are the most....well...you know."

Another sigh.

It was so strange...this view....dissected by vertical bars. It was definitely an angle Isuelt never thought she would see.

The first thing she did was reach up and cover Issy's hand with her own best she could as her friend held onto the bars.

"You'll get out of here one way or another soon. We're kind of counting on whoever," and here she was kind of hoping to get more information from Issy, "to act out again. Though...there is the chance that they won't. Did you think about the fact that you might have been framed, Is" Cause if that's the case, what if they don't murder someone else? They've got you in here..."

She frowned and then shook her head, that was too negative to think about. They'd have to go about this an entirely different way if no one else was killed soon. Not that Jewell wanted anyone to be killed anymore than Issy did...but it would help set her friend free.

"I'll make sure to talk to Lauf and Trix for you, everyone knows that this is just a misunderstanding." Everyone who counted, at least. Jewell had heard some of the talk in the Marketplace on her way over here and it had not been pretty.

"I just....I just," it was like fighting with her tongue. "What gets me the most is that," she dropped her voice to a whisper, "is that we are being so obviously targeted. I mean...the posters, the carvings in that girl's back" Why would it be me for Scathach's sake?" Slowly her voice started to rise again, her ire could only suppressed for so long. "We are the targets! We are the ones in danger here! It's so fucking obvious....Dumb sons of bitches, locking up a Scathachian when it's the Scathachians who are being targeted!" There was a harsh edge to her voice, so much so that the door just beyond the cells creaked open.

She tightened her grip on Issy's hand as she grew angrier yet had to instantly drop it the second she heard that door creek open. Her notebook and pen were whipped out in a second and she made a good show of writing what Issy was saying down.

"All right...you say you are the ones being targeted ma'am' What makes you think that' And can I quote you on that 'Dumb sons of bitches part"'"

She glanced down the hallway and saw a face peeking out. She just waved to show that she was all right and waited again until the door closed before turning her attention back to Issy. She kept the notebook and pen out just in case.

"You gotta keep it down, love...or my knight in shining armor will run in here to save me from you. I probably only have a few minutes more." Her voice is low, tone rushed, "Who do you think is doing this" Icer dropped a name last night...Gim-something-or-other. Is it that person' Do you know who that is? Anything will help Is...both in getting you out of here and protecting your Sisters from ending up in similar positions."

Without even realizing it, Isuelt held her breath as Jewell spoke with the guard. She did not, however, shrink away from the bars; her tanned fingers remained spilling over the small window in the door. Isuelt had never been, nor would she ever become -regardless of her circumstances- a shrinking violet.

Jewell had managed to fend off the probing behavior of the guard without too much difficulty. What was difficult, however, was the Empress" question. Who had been doing these things" If Isuelt had known this, or at least had any clear inkling, she would have headed in that direction from the beginning. The fact of the matter was that the Scathachian had no idea (other than a general notion) of who could be responsible for such acts of violence. The culprit was more than likely someone who had something against Isuelt, or the Scathachians in general. This much was obvious. Perhaps a member of the now defunct Nightblade's Guild" Or a member of the general population who had felt themselves "hindered," "punished," or in any other way impeded by the justice perpetrated by the Sisters"

She just shook her head, "I"..I have no idea, Jewell." She really didn't know what else to say to her friend except, "I love that you're here. I needed this".thanks."

She sighed at Issy's response; she could literally feel the weight settling on her shoulders. Not that she felt this whole ordeal was in any way for her alone to deal with—she wasn't even one of the Sisters—but this was her friend and she felt like her hands were tied.

"Don't worry...we'll figure it out. Your Sisters are crawling all over the city and I know Brian isn't getting any sleep...hell, I'm certainly not." She gave the quietest, little, humorless laugh at that. "How could I" I have no one to drown myself in whiskey with to help me off into Dream."

"I'm glad I could come," smiling at Issy's appreciation for her visit. "I'll find some way to visit you again, though I may have to devise a heavier disguise than this," gestures to her get-up, "if I don't want to get molested. That shouldn't be a problem though, weak-minded fools wouldn't be able to see through the simplest glamour I use."

"I can try to smuggle something in to you too, if you want...anything you might need?"

She nodded quietly and glanced down at the floor through the bars. Isuelt knew that seduction was a proverbial piece of cake for Jewell. Still, it wasn't necessarily what the Scathachian needed at the moment. Prompted by the Empress' question of what do you need, Isuelt knew that what she needed was a reprieve. The very thought of a butcher out there in the West End, preying upon RhyDinians was beginning to boil the Judge's blood.

Isuelt felt impotent behind bars; she should have been out there, on the murderer's tail. There was an immense pressure building beneath the skin of this champion of righteous vengeance. Secretly she wondered when she would crack. After all....it wouldn't be the first time, would it"

"No, Jewell, I don't need anything. At least, not something that a person can actually give. I just need this to end, you know" I need to get out of here and help my Sisters bring the person who did this to justice. That....that's what I need." As if she realized the hypothetical thread running through her request, Isuelt quietly smiled at her friend. "But I thank you for asking. Ever since I met you, Jewell...you've been nothing but a friend to me. Thanks."

It was ironic, but her stagnation behind these bars was starting to exhaust her.

But mental anguish is far more debilitating than any sort of physical exertion, isn't it?

JewellRavenlock

She braved a smile for The Judge, "How could I not be, huh' You're always there for me." Jewell let silence reign for a moment. "We'll get you outta here, Is...I promise. One way or another. I don't care who we have to talk to or push around...we'll fix this."

She glanced down the hall knowing her time was running out, "I'll come back and visit you again as soon as possible, okay' May be in another guise...I don't know. I'm gonna go seek out Lucien for you, see what he thinks can be done on the legal side."

"I've got a few ideas and tricks up my sleeve, don't worry." She knew it was futile to say that, Issy had all the time in the world to worry. She flashed her an encouraging smile anyways, "All in the capable hands of the Empress, Is."

Issy

There was a moisture on her skin that caught the light just right. A romantic would have called it tears, but the realist would have seen it for what it really was. The dampness of the cell mixed with the Scathachian's perspiration, and nothing more. Although the sheen did lend a softness to her smile then, a softness that was rarely, if ever, seen from Isuelt.

"Thanks, Jewell. That makes me feel better," and she meant it.

Isuelt knew it was only a matter of time before she got out of here. The trouble was, what would happen between now and then.

Reaching through the bars, she wiggled her fingers for Jewell's. Her roughened voice lacked the edge she so often wielded, "See you later..."

JewellRavenlock

Date: 2006-11-19 21:58 EST
Of course that glimmer of moisture wasn't tears. Jewell would never mistake it for such even if they really were tears because this was Isuelt and she did not cry. Jewell had known another women with her strength long ago who had only shed tears once in her presence and she had dutifully ignored those tears. But there were no tears here so there was nothing to ignore.

Her smile turned blinding as she had managed to make Issy feel better, even if it was just a tinsy small amount. Object one of a million accomplished! It wasn't much, but it was something.

Jewell reached out and grabbed onto Issy's fingers, clasping her one hand with both of hers best she could, "Sooner rather than later, babe...I promise."

She blew her a kiss and released her hand just in time as the door at the other end of the hallway opened once more.

"That's my cue, wish me luck," was whispered to Issy with a grin before she turned and marched her way back down the hallway.

Reilly held the door open for her and she flashed him a smile as she breezed right by him. "Thank you for the time lieutenant, I truly won't forget it."

She didn't give him a chance to say anything, although he chased after her as she headed for the exit. She stopped short just before reaching it, almost causing him to run right into her, and spun about on her heel. She wasn't surprised to find him so close.

"If there's anything I can do for you, here's my card." Her voice was kept low, sultry, as she produced a business card from her cleavage and handed it over. Handy place to keep it, no' It was a real business card for a fake person who worked at the Oracle. She figured having an undercover persona would come in handy writing stories so she had created it last week. Today only proved how handy it could be.

"You'll be seeing me again, sweets. No worries." She still didn't let him get a word in edgewise before she was moving out the door and into the sunlight.

Lord, she needed a hot shower.
