Topic: Exchanging Gifts

Jewell was necessarily solemn as she made her way towards the Sanctuary. Fortunately, it was not a very long walk from her abode and she was quite thankful of that as she was carrying a rather undesirable present to share with the Sisters. She couldn't keep "the package" to herself anymore and it was time the she showed the Sisters what had been gifted to her.

She carried the parcel, re-wrapped as best as she could with the flower and all, in her arms as far away from her torso as possible. She looked absurdly odd, tripped several times because she couldn't see where she was going very well, and almost dropped it once or twice. However, this was better than the alternative which would be to carry the loathsome thing close to her chest.

Yes, she was well aware that she was venturing to the Sanctuary in board daylight. She almost hoped the enemy would catch sight of her so blatantly disregarding the warning given by seeking out the Sisters perhaps for fraternization. She enjoyed being defiant at times.

She kicked the door of the Sanctuary several times instead of setting the package aside and knocking, "One of you lovely ladies open up! I come bearing a gift!"

Man, no one was EVER going to let her sleep, huh' It might have taken Jewell kicking a few more times, but finally, the tall blonde dressed only in a gray wifebeater and a pair of black undies answered the door, rubbing at her eyes with the back of her hand.

"'Chea" Oh, hey babe. 'Sup?"

She smiled groggily, squinting at Jewell as her eyes tried to adjust to the light.

"You got somethin' for us?"

Brian and Jenai rounded the corner just in time to see his sister Jewell standing before the door, and Trixie poking out a bit. Quietly they paused, and watched the exchange a moment, as Brian then reached into his satchel and pulled the small box that was left for him out, and held it in hand, as they once more approached the pair of ladies.

"You got somethin' for us?"

"Actually, I think we all got a bit of something recently....Maybe we can compare gifts, sister of mine?"

Bri smiled, as only he could and nodded to each of them. His eyes panned to his beloved 'pooh' a moment, and then came back to Jewell.

"It seems my sister dear, that our activities as of late have not gone unnoticed by someone or something. Jenai and I were blessed with a pair of lips, what pray tell might you have to share with us?"

Growing a little frustrated, Jewell had indeed kicked the door several more times before the hottness that is Trixie opened up. The groggy hipster earned a small smile of greeting from the Empress for looking too cute in her little get-up.

"You got somethin' for us?"

"Actually it was sent to me but I thought you should see it..."

Jewell didn't get any further than that when Brian spoke up, seemingly out of nowhere. Now, it was no big secret that some of them were just a tad on edge throughout this whole ordeal. Jewell was not exempt from that at all.

Still in a bit of a morning funk, she was startled by Brian and jumped a bit, almost dropping the box one more time. To her eternal disgust, she had to cradle it to her chest to avoid dropping it. When she realized she was doing so she quickly held it out from her body again.

"It seems my sister dear, that our activities as of late have not gone unnoticed by someone or something. Jenai and I were blessed with a pair of lips, what pray tell might you have to share with us?"

She stared at her brother during his query, barely remembering to return his nod as her face was drained of all color. Lips. She couldn't contain her shudder.

"I'd rather...you just look. I don't really want to talk about it," she muttered, casting her eyes down some. That was really unfair to them as she considered her present particularly gruesome, but she really couldn't find the appropriate words to describe what was inside the box.

"Maybe we could come in, Trix?" Daring a look up to the blonde.

The violently green eyes flicked to the approaching pair before they even started speaking. Nose and ears, you know, always working. She smiled softly to them, then turned the faint grin back to Jewell. Well, this was all before the information started leaking out.

Brian said these "gifts" were for their "activities as of late". She couldn't help but quirk an eyebrow to that. Oh boy, and when she heard that they got a pair of lips? She was scowling within a heartbeat. She leaned forward to sniff at the box Jewell was holding after her refusal to speak of it aloud.

"S'flesh. An' it's definitely human..." She practically growled as she straightened herself back up. She held both hands out, one for the box Brian had and the other for the nasty present Jewell was holding. She suddenly didn't look so groggy, anymore. Nor did she look happy. Her left leg swung back to kick open the door for the trio.

"Yeah. Come inside. S'prolly a bad idea ta have you standin' outside."

"Definitely male too," she uttered miserably after Trixie's assessment of what her box held. She was glad to hand it over, although she knew she was burdening the already burdened Sisters with this she just could not deal with this herself.

"Yeah. Come inside. S'prolly a bad idea ta have you standin' outside."

At the mention of it being a bad idea to stand outside the hairs on her arms rose. She doubted that they were being watched at the moment, she didn't really feel like they were, but just the idea that they could be. It all made her highly uncomfortable.

"Yeah...inside would be good." She offered the now frowning Trix a little smile as she passed her into the Sanctuary.

"I'd rather...you just look. I don't really want to talk about it,"

Raising a brow a moment, Brian eyed the Empress and noted her shaken demeanor. Silently he reminded himself to tread lightly from here on out, as it seemed whatever Jewell had gotten truly upset her, something fierce.

"Maybe we could come in, Trix?"

Nodding a moment, Brian agreed as his eyes panned to Jenai a bit, and then turned to Jewell and Trixie.

"S'flesh. An' it's definitely human..."

"Good call, we also got a little gift card to go with ours as well." said Bri as he held handed the box to the open hand of Trixie, for her to get a closer look see and what not. A million thoughts as to what Jewell might have gotten, and what would have unnerved her so. Still he kept his relaxed demeanor, and winked to Jenai. It was then he noticed Trixie take a more serious turn, so he cut it short a tad and listened up.

Hearing Trixie advise them to come on in, was nothing big...But it was Jewell's statement in regards to what she recieved being 'Definately male too' that got his attention, as he pondered if it might be related to he and Jen's gift, or was there yet another body undiscovered as of yet. The possibilities began to take shape, as well as the clues left on the card.

Watching Jewell head inside, Brian held the door for Trix and Jen, and took a quick look around as he allowed the ladies time to take it indoors.

With both boxes in her hands, she up-nodded Brian as a way of thanks for the door holding, then turned and disappeared into the kitchen.

She did have enough sense to call out a "Make yourself at home, want anythin' ta' drink?" to the trio behind her, even though two of them already did live here.

She moved to a remote line of counters and set the boxes down, setting them at least two feet apart from each other. She tossed a wary glance to the one gifted to Jewell, but investigated Brian and J.J.'s, first.

She held the lips in her hand, her own lips pulled back as she near growled at the dead tissue in her palm. That expression only got more severe when she actually read the note.

Unable to contain her canine curiousity, she threw the contents of Brian and Jen's box back inside and snatched up the one Jewell had gotten. Sure, a severed penis was really gruesome, but she didn't think to investigate it too much. She dug for the note with identical hand-writing, her emerald eyes becoming a more menacing green as she took in each jotted line.

She snarled at the end. A real and true snarl, her hands forming fists that shook. The notecard was wrinkled and rumpled in her hand. Her head hung down, her teeth snapping at the air between her chin and chest. This is exactly what she'd been afraid of...others getting sucked into their mess. She wondered if Keaton had been sent anything, but then, he would have been by already. Or would be by, soon. That's if they knew about Keaton. Oh God, she was so not happy about this. She was so not ready for this. She needed Issy here.

Without thinking, she lifted the fist holding the letter and inhaled deeply. She caught her own smell, which she couldn't really distinguish as that, and Jewell's scent. But she was working for the one beneath. Her unoccupied hand groped for the note Brian and Jenai had gotten, and that too was lifted to her nose. Inhale, inhale, inhale. She could almost just get it there, beneath everything else. She just couldn't hold onto it.

She had followed Trix inside and then stood around for a moment like a gawking visitor that didn't belong. There was an internal debate being waged as Trixie disappeared into the kitchen. She wanted to see her reaction to the packages—and perhaps check out what Brian had received as well—but she did not want to intrude.

In the end, her nosy nature won out and she creeped to the kitchen entrance and took up a lean against the wall. She quietly observed Trixie's process of examination, not fool enough to think her presence went unnoticed but smart enough not to disturb her friend.

Only when she seemed done with the sniffing did she speak up, "I told Lauf about it...a little. I just got upset because the kids, they're in the house with me and now this freak knows where my house is. And here I am dragging Lucien in on this shit." She shook her head, at least she wasn't totally freaking out about it any more.

"I thought I'd show it to you first...and then we could bring it to the Watch. It's good evidence for the case for Issy's side. I mean, you guys wouldn't send me that stuff and warn me from acting like a Judge, yeah?" Yay! The Empress is even thinking clearly.

For once, she'd been so wrapped up in what she was doing that she really didn't notice Jewell enter. She didn't jump when she heard her voice, though. She just stood up a little straighter and pretended she wasn't ready to lash out at something.

Her voice wavered a little as she answered, but for the most part, it was normal Trixie speaking, rather than high-strung, close-to-changing mutt.

"Thassa good idea, Jewell. But...an' I say this 'cuz I do care about you, an' your kids, even though I haven't met 'em....but anyway...I'll take the packages to the Watch. I know ya love Izz, but you got a family to look out for, an' so do I. From here, take a step back, ya know" Get yourself out of this business. I juss'...I can't have you hurt because of someone after us. K" I juss' can't."

She kept her back to the fae the whole time, but she wasn't being insincere in her plea. Jewell was smart enough to be able to catch her struggling in speech, both from pushing back the creature howling to be let out and from the fact that she was pushing a friend away.

This was getting to her worse than it should. But then, this was different from anything else she'd dealt with. Sure, she'd had to defend the Island once or twice"but that was the Island, a place full of Sisters. There were only a handful of them, here, and this wasn't the sort of situation she could be an impartial Judge in. This concerned people she knew, people she loved, the only people she had in this whole stupid world, really. How the Hell was she supposed to detach herself long enough from that to face this like she would any other crime"

She shook her head, lowering her eyes from Trixie's back a moment. This is what she had been afraid of hearing. Of course, it was what she had told herself when she had gotten the package—step back and get out while you can.

That wasn't the way Jewell Ravenlock operated, however.

She had lasted one night staying out of the West End and not helping out before she started to go crazy. These were her friends, people that would help her (and any innocent in the whole city) out in a jam. She simply couldn't abandon them, would not abandon them.

"You know, Trix," despite the upheaval she was feeling inside, she tried to make her tone as soothing as possible, "I told myself that first, too, but it's too late for that and even if it wasn't...I couldn't do it. I don't know what the hell it is that we are facing." She paused there, letting that "we" sink in good and deep. "But whatever it is, you guys need me and I'm ready and willing to help."

"I'm already in way too deep to get out now, hun...and I've dragged others in with me." She grimaced a little, disgusted with her own carelessness on that matter, her thoughts going out to Lucien for a moment. "My family is my responsibility and they need me to watch out for them but if someone doesn't take this psycho down then they won't be safe either, will they?"

Watching Trixie and Jewell head into the kitchen, Brian gently took Jenai's and they followed. Quietly, he watched Trixie and listened to the exchange she and Jewell had shared. He could relate to both women on many levels, Jewell for her fear and determination regardless of it. Trixie for her concern, and emotional attachments in regards to those around her, and those involved voluntarily, or agaist their will. Emotions that could possibly make one sloppy in some regards, then again those same attachments could work to make someone that more determined to see this through, and that's where it came to Jewell. She was that opposite end of the spectrum and her words rang true in Brian's heart.

He thought back to the events past, and now what was going on. It was true they had NO idea of what they were facing. Save a monster of some kind, and a brutal one at that. Four dead so far, more hinted at and they weren't any closer, save the clues left in the card Brian and Jen had recieved. Still they had a shot, and would be damned if they walked away from this by any means. Brian looked between Trixie, Jewell and his beloved and nodded to reaffirm Jewell's words as he pulled Jen's hand up gently, and kissed it.

"My sister is correct, we cannot and will not walk away from this one, not at all. This is personal to us all, and we are more than just friends...Your family here has helped mine on countless occasions, and we have helped you as well, we are all closer than friends and no one was 'dragged' in, as they in the end chose to assist in this. No matter what comes, we do this together and see it through to the end. It's as easy as that. As it stands, others will suffer if we don't act decisively enough, and we could use all the help we can muster. This person seems a step ahead, and we need to close the gap.

I understand concerns about being getting involved and what not, then again I see no other place we would rather be at the present, at least until this is settled, that's another matter entirely. So you sisters are stuck with us Ravenlocks for a good while yet to come, so what?s our next move" I figure to head to that location specified in the card Jen and I recieved, and see what I can drum up, what about you ladies?"

Brian winked to Jen, and offered a squeeze of her hand and a smile. He meant that part about 'not wanting to be anywhere else, until this was settled' just for her, and their plans yet to come. For now though, it was back to business and business seemed to be picking up.

She was ready to reply to Jewell when Brian spoke up. She closed her eyes to hide the strange glow they were taking on as her head hung, swinging side to side against what was being said.

Only after she'd heard it all, and let a silence creep in for about a second or two, did she speak.

"Your help is more than appreciated, but when it comes to the fighting, I'm sorry. No. Neither of you, neither including you, Brian...neither of you are going to fight. It's not that I don't trust your abilities, but I refuse to let you walk into a battle meant for my family..no matter how much you care about us. First of all, I can't let your sense of obligation or duty put you in danger, because like it or not, you're both innocents and therefore, my wards. Kind of. Secondly, those symbols on the bodies...they were gruesome, yes, but they were meant to outrage. Outrage us. It was a direct insult to us, and I'll be damned if anyone else gets the satisfaction of righting that wrong. As much as this is for your protection, whether you'll let me protect you willingly or not, this is also about righting an injustice done against our beliefs. We do not know what this person is capable of, yet, and I'm not letting you two risk your necks trying to find out...especially when this person knows where you live, who you are, and can presumably find you whenever. This is not a debate, either. I adore you both, I do, and I just want you to be safe."

She took a deep breath in. Now, anyone who knew her would realize that that formal speech was very unlike the normal Trixie. It was too...serious and too stiff. She half-turned at this point to glance over her shoulder at all of them.

"We can track the person down together. But when push comes to shove, I want you two out of there. I will not risk you, even if that is a damn stupid move on my part. Understand? Also, we're probably going to have to move you to a hiding spot."

She looked between the siblings, then looked at her own Sister. Now feeling like the biggest jerk in history, she just kind of shook her head and moved past them for the door.

"I need some fresh air."

Brian Ravenlock

Date: 2006-12-05 04:45 EST
Brian quieted down and listened, and truth be told listened well. He knew where Trixie was coming from but wondered if she had any idea of what he and Kerri had already done in regards to this, or for that fact Jenai as well. It was not a simple case of 'innocents' and 'wards' and more so. The Ravenocks were no one's wards, and they sure as hell weren't innocent by any means.

Brian and Jenai had already talked this over, as did he and Mirage, and he knew exactly what the risks were, as he knew his sister did as well. Innocents were those brutally murdered, and whether they were marked with the 'scales' or not, they were killed in cold blood and someone needed to pay, and that coupled with what was appearing to be a case of someone against the sisters was more than enough to deem Brian's attention. Sides, he made it a bad habit of poking his nose into dealings such as this all the time, and well before he had met Jenai and the others.

So that said and done, he let Trixie finish up, and was getting ready to speak when she continued.

"We can track the person down together. But when push comes to shove, I want you two out of there. I will not risk you, even if that is a damn stupid move on my part. Understand" Also, we're probably going to have to move you to a hiding spot."

He watched her move to head out, as she mentioned fresh air, and spoke before she could leave.

"Okay, you had your shot, and here's ours. First off, we don't hide and we don't run. This isn't about who gets what shot at who, or who finishes this. This is about seeing it through to the end and making sure it doesn't repeat itself. Push comes to shove, you can betcher ass my sister and I will be knee deep in someone's ass and will fight till we can't, and even then I won't promise we'd stop. This isn't your part, this is 'our' part, as we are 'all' involved. I don't do this out of obligation, I do it because people have died and wil continue to do so, according to our gift giver, and on top of that those close to me have been hurt, with threats of harm to more.

Whether it affected you all or not, this is something I would have looked into regardless, and since we gained this persons attention, leaving is out of the question. My place is where it has always been, at Jen's side and each of yours as well. I am not an innocent, I am not the f*cking cook or help, I am Brian. That's it. Just Brian, lover of Jen, ally to Scathatch and her daughters, the same Brian who has gone on countless patrols, helped with missions and just been around for whatever and I feel my sister thinks the same of herself...Save the lover of Jen part. You were right, this isn't a debate. I have been working on this since the rumors started and have invested FAR too much time into this, I will not see it wasted over a debate of who protects who, or who adores who.

We all love each other, we have and will bleed for each other and we each will see this through to the end, and that's it. You want us to be safe, we want you to be safe, we all want everyone to be safe, so the best place for that to happen is to be next to each other until this is settled. So you watch our backs, we watch yours, they watch ours, and we all meet at the end together. Sounds crazy enough that it just might work. Sides, we all are taking different avenues in this, all to get to the same goal.

So get your fresh air, take some time and come on back and let's figure out what the hell we are gonna do. My plans stick, I am getting my gear and headed to the place specified to see what they left me. Let me know, or let us know better yet, if ya have any ideas or plans as well. We all need to get on the same page, yeah?"

Brian stood there a moment, and offered a friendly smile. He respected Trixie more than she would ever know, and knew she meant every word she said from her heart, and hoped she respected him in that same manner. He knew they could not be divided in the least, as that is what the enemy would most likely want. A unified front was the best deal at present, and he truly hoped that is what they were working for.

Jenai Ravenlock

Out of her silence she had listened and watched them. Now it was her turn since she saw that now her words could have a chance to make her point. Sometimes you only had to say things once if you picked the right moment.

"There is no hiding spot For anyone. There is obviously someone that knows all of our friends....after all why include her if who ever did this did not Want her included."

"we can not start abandoning people now when they need us the most and they Want to help." She looked over to Jewell quite seriously.

"I don't think you have a choice but to help now Jewell. But I see Trixie's point she's trying to make. The more people we can keep out of this the better....again, your ....present, says you've been cordially invited to the Party...."

Trixie McAllister

"I...whatever."

She answered, feeling a little outnumbered. She shrugged her shoulders and hooked her thumbs in the bikini string of the black panties as she headed on outside.

So they were going to go along and do what they wanted. Fine. She'd deal. But she couldn't commit to actually working with them in the fight. You see, Trixie, whether she wanted it or not, was often forced to be a loner when it came to matters of dispensing justice. When she got carried away, she was more likely to turn...give in to the beasties, and all...and she didn't like her friends and family to be around when it happened.

"Let 'em do what they think best. You can't have it your way all the time. Or, ya know, ever."

She moped along the outside of the Sanctuary, arms crossed over her chest.

"Goddess...grant me strength. The internal kind."

Jenai Ravenlock

Date: 2006-12-06 07:39 EST
She had started to speak when Trixie departed. Her mouth closed as she looked after her. A sigh came out quickly almost defeated, but she knew the whole thing would have been a lose lose anyway.

She just didn't like seeing Trixs that way. Hell seeing Trix period was great. But when she got that look, it was...something else." yeah just give the loner something to be more of a loner for Jen", she thought to herself before turning back to Jewell and Brian.

She'd try like hell to corner, track, chase, hunt Trix down again just so they could talk like old times when it could be that simple.

The sound of Brian's and Jewell's voices brought her back to the topic at hand.

Brian Ravenlock

Date: 2006-12-06 09:03 EST
Brian watched Jenai as she spoke, and nodded to himself somewhat. His eyes then passed to Trixie a bit as she left, and in truth it bothered him. He knew full well out of all the sisters Trixie was the most solitary. She worked best alone, and when she went full out she was a true force of nature in every sense of the word.

He had no intention of being in the way, but knew if they really wanted to put an end to this they would need to work as many angles as they could, and try to find some common direction. He had no true want to get into it with anyone, and if he could offer support from a logistic stand point, more the better as he knew the sisters were more than able to hold their own.

Offering a soft kiss to Jenai's cheek, Bri smiled warmly and softly spoke.

"Alright sweetheart, I'm gonna head out to that spot and see what we can do, so I'll meetcha in a bit and we can compare notes" Or do you want to come too?"

JewellRavenlock

Date: 2006-12-06 09:49 EST
Jewell remained quiet throughout most of the conversation, leaning against the door frame and just listening to both sides go back and forth over it. She was a little dismayed to see Trixie walk out but she knew she wasn't exactly pleased with the situation.

Heck, if it was the other way around Jewell would have probably been telling Trixie the same things that had been coming out of her mouth.

She turned her attention from the floor, she had been tracing the patterns with her eyes as they all 'discussed', and looked up to Jenai and Brian. "You know, all I really wanted was an invitation anyways." A bad attempt at humor over a situation she couldn't find much to laugh about in.

"Lauf offered the Sanctuary to the kids and me if things get rough...not that you all really want my brood hanging around here. I declined the offer for now, my house is heavily warded and I don't hide."

As for the rest of what had been brought up, she still remained silent. She wouldn't make promises to stay out of some big fight, knew that she could never make a promise like that. At the same time, she wouldn't purposefully deny any of the Sisters the satisfaction of clearing their name.

"I'm gonna go out, find Lucien...tell him about the presents. Probably be helpful to know about them."

Brian Ravenlock

Date: 2006-12-07 13:29 EST
"That's m'girl Jewell. Invites are always fun. Good idea on the Lucien front, that may offer us a break from the locals a bit as they try to track it down, I'll grab my stuff and make ready to head out. Maybe we can meet later and compare notes? After that I need to head to the University to talk to Garet."

Moving to his sister, he offered a kiss to her cheek and smiled.

"Just like old times, eh' gods I am proud of you."

Backing away, he smiled to Jen and kissed her cheek in turn, and left the kitchen, heading to his own room.
