Eddie

Nighttime fell over the West End as Eddie began her shift on patrol. She clung to the shadows, combing the alleys for trouble - the only hint of her presence being an occasional glint of light off the garnet at her throat. Eddie took her job seriously, scaring off muggers, foiling burglars - and this shift began no differently.

As she passed an alleyway in a particularly nasty area, Eddie heard screaming - a woman screaming for help. Swiftly, silently - she ran to investigate, and saw a large hulk of a man trying to have his way with a woman who obviously wanted no part of him. Eddie immediately dealt the man a vicious kick to the side of his left knee, collapsing the joint as bone shattered and sinew ripped, staggering the bigger man, and allowing the woman to free herself from his clutches and escape.

Normally, she stopped once the villian was down and out (the would-be rapist was writhing on the ground, clutching his ruined knee), but this night, Eddie snapped. All she saw as she looked at the man on the ground was the leering, gross, disgusting face of the man who had groped her - the same one who forced kisses from Trixie even as she spit blood in his face, and the man in the alley would pay dearly for his crime.

Eddie pinned the bigger man to the ground with her bare foot - wedging it under his chin, cutting off his air as she leaned her weight into his neck. His feeble attempts to throw her off his neck earned him a shove hard under his chin, jarring his teeth together. She then stood on his shoulder, grinding her heel into the nerves above his collarbone, moving her other foot from his neck to press down on his mouth and nose, growling low in her throat at the now-helpless brute.

"No - means - No. You got that?"

He managed a weak nod, eyes rolling back in his head as his air vanished under the weight of Eddie's 115 pound frame standing on his face.

"What's that - I can't hear you!" She lifted her foot from his face - which increased the pressure on his collarbone, snapping it under her heel. When the brute opened his mouth - panting and gasping for air - Eddie wedged her foot into his mouth, lunging forward to again choke off his air.

"How you like being helpless - I so much as see your ass around here again I'll make a necklace of your nads. Got it?"

With that, Eddie shoved her foot down his throat as far as it would go, only letting up when he went limp on the ground, unconscious. She left him battered and broken for the law to find, and slipped back into the shadows and headed back to the Sanctuary - home - her body trembling as the adrenaline continued to pulse through her.

Detaching himself from the shadows, Brian moved in as Eddie left. He had to smile a bit, as he recalled her display and prowess. A quick check of the man revealed a severe case of ass whup and then some. Brian dragged what was left of him into the open, and pinned a small note to his shirt and was soon off and running for home.

Granted he didn't know exactly where Eddie was headed, he figured he could catch her when she arrived somehow. Besides, he recalled her face the night of that fight, the look she gave and the sound of her voice. The outburst he witnessed just previously coupled with that, meant she needed to to at least speak to someone. Using a series of shortcuts which consisted of some alley leaps, a dip through an occupied dwelling or three, and some tarp slides, Brian managed to get home fairly quickly and from the looks of things had beaten Eddie home.

So Brian waited a bit, a bit and soon Eddie emerged from the shadows, and approached the entrance, as Brian peeled himself from the shadows as well, and closed the gap between them. His expression was one of understanding, as he could relate in a number of ways. A faint smile offered to the young sister, as he spoke.

"Heyas, Eddie...Some night, eh' Wanna talk about it a bit' I can whip something up in the kitchen, while we do so."

Eddie had been so intent on getting back to the relative calm of the Sanctuary, she didn't sense Brian's approach - and she whipped around at his voice, nearly giving him a taste of what she'd done to the brute. She recognized him just in time, giving him a weak smile.

"Hey chef-man. I guess you saw what went down." She studied her bare feet as she held open the great door. "Yeah - I'd like a snack or something - thanks."

Eddie knew a talk would help, but she couldn't put the grossness she felt into words - though maybe a snack with a friend would help that.

Brian watched Eddie whip around and still made no movements, he knew she was on edge, and if she didn't pull back, he'd just take it. She needed to vent somehow, and it was a way.

Still he offered her a warm smile, as she spoke and held the door. A reasuring pat to her shoulder as Brian held the door from her to allow her through once more. He would not press the matter, instead he would simply offer an outlet and see where Eddie wished to go with it. Brian simply wanted the young Scath to know she was not alone, and someone was there to lend an understanding ear to her..

Even if he was the cook, and a man.

Eddie slipped past Brian and into the kitchen, and stood there waiting for him - her cooking ranked right up there with Jenai's and Issy's. The rage was gone and she was a little hungry. She dug her toe into the floor, trying to put together what she was feeling into words. Patrolling and fighting she understood - what happened in the Inn was way beyond her ability to grasp.

After a long pause, Eddie finally managed a whisper:

"Why didn't he stop?"

Brian watched Eddie slip inside and await him. Concern of course took hold, as he watched the sister's movements and noted subtle differences, most in regard to her earlier actions and possible state of mind.

A platter of cold cuts set out, and of course french bread followed, and the usual condiments, and veggies, as Brian began to work on a sub sammich for that ass. A bit of this, some of that, loads of that too. What the hell, this was feel good grub.

His eyes settled upon the young Scath once more, as he noted her demeanor once more and paused as he heard her soft voice.

"Why didn't he stop?"

Brian didn't know how to truly react, all he recalled was Trixie leaving and Eddie saying it was "Nothing an ass kicking couldn't fix." So Brian was sort of taken aback and truly pondered what to say...What he did know is he needed to know exactly what she saw and as much as he hated to possibly upset her, he needed to know.

Setting the knife down, Brian moved along side Eddie and stood next to her. A few moments of silence passed, as he spoke softly to her.

"Eddie, please tell me exactly what went on. I need to know so we can talk about this, and I promise no one will hear of it from me."

Eddie was silent for a long time, going over what happened in her head. Fighting she understood - she lived for it, after all - but, the attitude of the guy was totally foreign territory. Finally, she managed to find the words.

"Well - it's like the more Trix and I told the jerk off - the more he liked it. I though no meant no, you know? He was like no meant bring it on - and, I didn't know what to do about it. I feel like I let Trix down."

Eddie again scuffed her bare toes into the floor, finally admitting what had been weighing her down for ages.

Brian let Eddie speak, and get it out...Quietly the elder watched the sister, as she looked to the floor a bit now. Regarding her carefully, Brian quietly pondered the situation and put himself in her shows as best as he could. Brian recalled something, as he watched Eddie...He recalled Cattie...gods, that was something he hadn't thought of in such a long time...She would have been about Eddie's age...The possible daughter from so many years ago...Hell, lifetimes ago.

A somewhat somber glance, and then Brian regained himself forcibly. Now was not the time to tread upon old thoughts and what might have beens. Brian moved beside Eddie and offered an arm around her shoulder a moment, and gently squeezed. Then, he moved in front of new and went into a crouched position and looked up, to be able to look into her eyes. With a soft, understanding tone, he spoke.

"Eds...You let NO one down, understand" No one...Not Trix, not yourself, or anyone else. This was not your fault. You are right, no should mean no, and normally it does...But there are those who do not govern themselves to what should be, and what is the norm. Sometimes they need to be made to understand. You hesitated, because you did not know what to do...I hate to say it, and you know how much I love you guys, but you sisters could use more interaction with men, before setting out into the world...Just my opinion.

So you didn't know what to do, that does not make it your fault by any means, nor Trix's fault. The fault lies with the bastards who did what they did. They had no reason for it, and one day their reckoning will come. Granted, it could have been worse...A great deal worse. However it wasn't and be thankful for it. So this is not a fault deal , it is a lesson learned deal and next time goddess forbid this ever happen again, you will be ready, you will strike fast and hard and without remorse, and deal with it before it ever has a chance to worsen...Pre-emptive strike...Sword-Chucks, yo. Or, you could walk away from it, no one would think the worse of you for that either. In any event, always keep options open.

Sweetie, no one blames you. Not at all, I know this. So you needn't beat yourself over it. We all have had times where we thought we f*cked up, time and again. Hell, look at me. I am living proof of that. But learn from me, blaming yourself is pointless, and It took me a long time to see that. An yeah sometimes I still do it and I need to be reminded not to. The same goes for you, don't blame yerself, Eddie. Just learn from it, adapt from it and overcome it the next time."

Brian remained where he was, and simply looked to Eddie once more. A pleasant smile on his face, as he offered a reassuring nod to the sister, and dear friend.
