"Houseguest Part 1"

Belial had been away from Rhy"Din with good reason for the Gods only knew how long. If she hadn't been so easy in allowing Corwyn to cast his "little spell" perhaps she would not be in the current mess she is" but alas, he'd convinced her and Sid to go along with his mad plans. At first his idea had seemed rather noble, a way to stop the Angelic from bringing about "The End of Days", starting of course with Rhy"Din. But, as with all things dealing with Corwyn, his "little plan' was meant to be far more reaching than merely reigning in the Above and the consequences hadn't been fully explained or comprehended. At least, as she likes to remind herself, she is not alone; Sid is along for the ride"

A few mortal years ago, Bel had taken a fancy to a seeming human male she knew as Silfhandel. He had" "issues". They were back in his homeland. Issues, right. His homeland had turned out to be pretty damn barren, and quite open to the sights of the Above. It had been during this adventure that the real trouble had begun. Now some might accuse, (read Gabriel), that she did what she did on purpose, others might understand that she really was clueless. Truth is she had no idea what she was doing" It had meant to be a noble, life saving act, but, as the old saying goes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Her good intentions had landed her and Silf in a world of Trouble. (Note that capital "T".)

The pair hadn't been in his lands long when the assassins" fell upon them. They stank of Gabriel who, it seems, is determined to hold a grudge against her no matter what. (Sure, she helped Corwyn with his idea and yes, it did change everything that Gabriel had been plotting. And yeah, she wasn't all that unhappy about messing up Gabriel's plans. She's not liked him since she lost that last war against him and ended up demoted to one of the lesser planes of Hades. In Fact, Bel has no more love for Gabriel than he has for her" Still, the assassins are getting old, she's more than a little tired of being pursued by Gabriel's Nazis.) But there they were; a handful of them. She kind of knew that Silf wouldn't really be able to handle his own against them, they are Angelic, and he appeared little more than a human seeming fellow" But she hadn't expected so many' Had there been less than the five she would have had the time to take them all out herself, keeping Silf safe and out of it. But' she'd overlooked one major flaw to her plan: Silf's selfish need to play hero!

He'd charged in, without knowing even the first thing about taking out an Angelic assassin. Not a smart fellow, but his heart was in the right place. Of course, that did him little good as he was gutted by the assassin. The blade slide right through the fragile human chest, too late for Bel to stay the assassin's hand; all that was left for her was to take the assassin out and do what she could to staunch the flow of blood from the wound. Too bad for Silf it was a mortal blow"

Bel's never been big on the "healing thing". She leaves that to Mel, Indi, Sid, you know, everyone else. Once upon a time she was a succubus, a soul sucker; she didn't bother with healing but rather reveled in bringing death? Those days are long gone once she'd discovered her true heritage; she simply wasn't bound by the traditions or rules any longer. But with Silf laying there on the grass, gasping for air, she really wished she'd spent a bit more time on the saving life kind of talents" She'd thought to summon Sid or Mel, but, if she could reach them, would they arrive in time" Silf didn't look like he had much time left so Bel, in her not-so-infinite wisdom, did the only thing she knew to do; she shared her life energy with him.

"Ooooh, if only?" it's has such a nice ring, doesn't it' The wondering questions of "what if's". They soothe and accuse all at the same time. She can only claim ignorance" Because that's what it was.

Perhaps had she paid mind to the histories she'd recorded whilst performing her Heavenly duties, she would have remembered what happens to the human body after being infused with the energy of the Seraph' but that was a long time ago' a really long time ago, and since then much has transpired to make such history vague and distant. Besides, she'd no idea that she had become so". Hmm' Strong" Powerful" Seraph?"!! What the hell had Corwyn done to them anyway?""!!!

Too late" the changes to Silf began nearly immediately, however it was easy to delude herself, whilst in his realm at least, that nothing untoward was really happening. That is, until they came home to Rhy"Din" what a fiasco that had been! His lack of training left him completely open to the sights of the Above, and now he reeked of Bel" "Reeked" as in every Angelic assassin found him but expected Belial. She knew that something had to be done and fast' before Corwyn, Vincent, Gabriel, Daug, heck, any of the others found out the truth of what she'd done"

So she'd taken Silf and ran. They'd drifted from dimension to dimension, from world to world, realm to realm, while she taught him the basics of masking his aura, blanketing his essence so that it would be harder for anyone to 'sniff" him out. It had taken months before he began to get the point. Silf enjoys denial, he feels safer in his own delusions for he not a fan of change. Poor guy, he has no idea what trouble he is in and Bel simply doesn't have the heart, (or the guts), to inform him.

Fact is" how does one explain about the Angelic, or Corwyn, (the Ancient), or Vincent, (the vampire whose *inherited* the essence of Cain)" One doesn't' Unless one wants to reveal all about themselves" a trait Bel has never been comfortable with. So she has kept her secrets while teaching Silf how to protect himself" And, now she's got another secret to keep" from everyone else.

Then the SOS came from Tral. (Tral is the demonic force that Doc created to protect the Oak and Ash, an Inn that Sun and Bel ran on the Docks of Rhy"Din.) Tral was in trouble" big trouble and so was the O&A. Bel was able to gain enough information from Tral before their psychic link was intentionally severed. Whoever did it was obviously powerful, at least enough so to effect Bel's mental link to one of her own. This did not bode well"

At first Bel tried to foist the issue off, thinking she could find someone closer to home than she" But her attempts to reach the others had soon convinced her otherwise: Lankyn was off in the Lands, with Wyld, who tends to be his primary bodyguard. Luse was in his home realm, far from the docksides of Rhy"Din, in a land Bel had never visited. Vincent doesn't bother with such petty situations; he is far too busy plotting to overtake, well" everyone else. Mel, the Dreamwitch, couldn't be found, (she must be walking in dreams somewhere.) Sid was off her psychic radar, (most likely in the Lands hiding from what Corwyn had done to them") And Sun" Well" she attempted to contact Sun, but found only static.

This didn't really surprise her, Sun had gone off on an adventure to claim a relic known to slay Dracolichs", (Bone Dragons, dragons that were once alive but then resurrected as "pets" for evil necromancers.) Daugolazan has been a pain in the ass of the Family for several hundred years, and his intentions towards Bel in particular have never been very pure. Sun's discovery of the weapon had created quite a stir of excitement; the mere idea that the Family could hold the tool of the Bone Dragons potential demise appealed to far more than just Bel. (Although Bel would say she has the *most* right to be relieved as Daug isn't attempting to seduce any of the other Bloods. The mere idea of just kissing the Bone Dragon gives her the willies!)

In the end, it seemed that Bel was "it' so to speak so back to Rhy"Din she headed"

She stashed Silf safely away, not that he wanted it; he's reached a point where his confidence is high and in his arrogance he believes he's ready to take on everything! Bel is wise enough to know otherwise, but she's not having much of an effect on Silf's current mindset. He'd insisted on accompanying her at first, she'd only convinced him otherwise by promising to return for him quickly. She hadn't explained what her concept of quick was however"

Her first stop in Rhy"Din was, of course, the O&A. She noticed the boards hastily nailed over the entrance and windows immediately. Then she spied the piece of paper posted haphazardly to one of the great doors as it flittered up then down by the wind. It read simply:

Property Requisitioned Immediate Demolition Required

DCH Inc.

Now, Rhy"Din doesn't really have a legal system, or a law enforcement agency that has any real power or authority, Bel knows, she's spent many years in this realm and is well aware of the current sad condition of such peace keeping efforts. Rules in Rhy"Din are simple; those who can get away with it do. Reading over the curt message she felt a spark of anger, but she wasn't surprised" DCH has been trying to renege on their deal with Sun for several years now, digging up excuses as to why they should seize the property back from the Bloods. They tend to think that the nexual node located somewhere on the property where the O&A currently resides can be of use to them. They'd used it before" It is safe to assume that they plan to use it again for their own nefarious purposes.

She's no idea how much time they have to get everything out of the O&A before its untimely demise, but she's certain time is short' DCH will do this very quickly before anyone would have time to inform the Family, before anyone would have time to stop them' Well, Bel might not be able to stop them, but she sure as hell can rescue Sun's damn precious furniture" and Tral too, of course.

The furniture once belonged to the Vladslace's, and had been bequeathed to Sun upon the closing of Von's pleasure house. Sun's had many copies made of the furniture, of course, but there still remained a few original pieces. Bel has never been quite sure which are which, so she planned on dumping it all into the Nether, (Sun's little slice of the space-time continuum.) Tral" the bar, (yes, the actual bar), is another matter" He simply isn't going to fit through the door that leads into the Nether from the O&A" Bel will need to move him out of the building the human way: carried out the entrance to be stashed in a Blood warehouse until a new home could be found for him.

With a heavy sigh, Bel peeled the boards free from the entrance, muttering the word to activate the spell to unlock the door before slipping inside. The greeting between Bel and Tral had been heartwarming; he raised his arms curling them tight about her small frame before busting out in a flood of tears, (it's very odd to watch something that looks wooden cry...) He'd been mighty happy to see her and let her know it in no uncertain terms. After fifteen minutes of taking his sentimentality, Bel rolled her eyes heavenward, (behind Tral's back of course), then gently pushed free; she was over doing the coddling thing, not something she's all that fond of nor good at, and ready to get down to business, something which she is far more familiar. Tral recognized the look. Being the brave soul he is, he sniffled a bit while gathering himself back together then began to babble, (perhaps to prove he was all better now")

"I watched them come and go for three days, but then last night?" A pause as he struggled to control his emotions, "They came and boarded the place up and posted that notice. I didn't know what else to do than contact you, Bel. I can't seem to find Sun." Tral's tone was piteous, (he has this crush on Sun, you see, and his not being able to contact his "Mistress" was his undoing. He was obviously very upset")

"We'll take care of this, Tral, you and me." She wasn't in the mood to hear his lament because he missed her wandering roomy, so she went for a direct approach. She began by laying out her plan of action while getting Tral to help organize the stuff for quick tossing into the Nether.

The process took them all night long, but by morning most of the contents of the rooms had been emptied into Sun's spacious niche" if in a bit of hasty disarray' (She can only hope that Sun doesn't fall and break her neck on the stuff when she tries to zip into the O&A" whenever next that may be.)

Several Bloods arrived early that morning ready to haul Tral off to a safer locale. Again there were tears from the demonic entity; he'd loved his home at the O&A and just knowing it may not exist in a few hours was causing him quite a lot of grief. Bel kind of felt it too' She would miss the old place" But she was already working on other ideas, (ideas that included getting even with DCH"), but first, she had business to complete.

Heading back to Onyx, she immediately began contacting the other Bloods currently out of town to let them know what was going on. She then assigned the task of moving the stock from the O&A to the warehouse directly across from the building, (located also on the dockside). But she knew that wasn't good enough; DCH will know about the warehouse across from the O&A. So she issued orders that the warehouse be emptied as well; she wanted to be sure that the contents would be placed far enough away that no "accidents" could occur. No need to let DCH mess with their merchandise too. They may have gotten away with stealing their Inn, but she was going to insure that this would be the extent of their damage" At least for today anyway"

During the course of her day, she continued her attempt to mentally contact Sid and Mel"only to find static. Sometime during the afternoon she took a moment to ponder the oddness of this, thinking that something had to be up. She maintained a constant mental link with a handful of few of which Sid and Mel are included. She'd been able to reach almost all of the others, but Sid and Mel remained mysteries" Where they were, what they were doing" Bel hadn't the foggiest"

She also kept vigilance of another kind" casting about for a 'scent' of would-be-assassins. Being back in Rhy"Din, and especially at Onyx House, made it very easy for them to find her, they wouldn't even need to smell her out; all they'd need to do is just post a watcher on the Family Manse. She was indeed waaay too easy to find should they want to. By the end of the day she'd not found any trace, so she allowed herself the luxury of heading over to Sid's just to check things out. (*It* was the one place she could go, since Bel had no idea where Mel stayed, outside of the Dreamscape where Bel really didn't like going" The Dreamscape is an eerie place to say the least, but since the addition of the Heart' it's gotten much worse.)

Bel knew something was different long before she actually got to WestEnd where Sid and Scottie's house lay. She couldn't seem to sense life beyond the border" It was almost as if some kind of odd 'veil" had fallen over WestEnd, blanketing it with a white static. When she hit the first street that designated the beginning of the boundaries that defines WestEnd, she felt an odd disorientation' Almost as if her internal compass had suddenly gone haywire.

Now, Bel hadn't been gone that long from Rhy"Din, (by her standards anyway") she knew the path to the Brownstone like she knew the path to the Dragon, (RDI), she'd been to both too many times to count, and they are as familiar to her as her own Den; so was getting to them. However standing on the corner of what should have at least looked like a familiar street, she felt lost' Retracing her steps she dug deep into her memory, closed her eyes and allowed her feet to carry her forward, hopefully to Sid's Brownstone?

Of course, wandering about the streets with one's eyes closed may not be the smartest thing to do' but it was the only thing she came up with' So there she was, walking somewhat with care upon broken sidewalks, dusty cracked streets and over crumbling curbs, until at last she knew she'd reached her destination' Or at least, she'd thought she had! Because when she opened her eyes, there was nothing there. Not nothing like as in a run down building where the renovated Brownstone should have been, but nothing as in just a blur of darkness; a hole where a building might once have been.

Taking in a deep breath, she began to walk the perimeter of where the house should be, and to her surprise when she stepped off to the far left, she saw it! Yep, there it was, it hadn't moved, it hadn't been whisked away by a nexual shift; in fact it looked just like it had last she'd seen it!

Opening her preternatural senses she began assessing this situation' It didn't take long before she realized that what was happening to the WestEnd was magic" Nor did it take long to figure out that the heart of that magic emanated from Sid's house. There was a strong scent of Bordertown mana here as well where once there had not been" Sid had to be the culprit, as there were very few who even knew about B-Town in Rhy"Din and less that would have the ability to mingle its magic with the WestEnd.

To say that she felt a sweeping sense of relief is an understatement; she was overjoyed that Sid had messed up too. It lightened her mood tremendously!

But what appealed to her the most was that suddenly the WestEnd offered her a sanctuary that she'd never expected. The Above would have even more issues than she had finding their way around here. The Above simply didn't have the refined senses that she and her other siblings who've been in the "Between", (i.e. Earth oriented,) do' Sure, *if* any of the Above were to already know where Sid lived, they might be able to find their way back to the Brownstone, as Bel had" but' Bel and Sid had been quite thorough; killing any who have ever gotten close enough to either of their homes to pass on any such information to their potential successors. Sid's house would remain safe" and that means" WestEnd is pretty safe too!

In fact, she could stash Silf here quite easily and keep him hidden from her would-be assassins, (and others"), for as long as needs be?

The idea did more than just appeal, it screamed synchronicity. And what it really meant' No more running"

Yes, Sid had done Bel proud!

Bel strode up the steps and knocked boldly upon the door, a smile curving red full lips stained the color of dried blood. Yes, she's already getting some interesting ideas on how to take advantage of Sid's little trick.

But Boy was Corwyn going to be pissed" Bel couldn't help the chuckle. What she'd done she'd keep secret' what Sid had done was screaming loud enough to wake Khorathil and his dead!

Of course, there was no answer"

What Bel didn't know was it was Saturday night and Sid was busy at work tending at the Dragon, (read RDI). Since Bel was now in the WestEnd even with Sid being out of the area, Bel still couldn't contact her" She wasn't aware of this trick yet either, but as ditzy, or air-headed as Bel can appear, she's far from stupid. She'd figure it out soon enough. In the meanwhile" if her sister Ancient was in town, she'd have been either at her home, the Dragon or, maybe, Stars End, (if it happens to be Karaoke night anyway")

She spent a few minutes attempting to 'read" the interior of the "Stone, hoping to catch a fresh scent of Sid, Scottie or the twins. A slight cocking of her head as she felt the flagging strands of energy quietly fading. Yes, Sid had been here recently, recent enough to leave a trace of her energy inside.

It was time to head over to the Dragon, check out what?s going on and ask around if any have seen Sid recently. If she gets really lucky, she'll actually find Sid there.

"It's a plan"" Although she's not sure if it's the best one" as she walked she tried to scent out potential assassins but found only static. Once in Old Town proper it may be too late of a warning to avoid confrontation, if they were lurking in wait for her. She'd have to take her chances" Bel is not one who likes to put any faith in Chance; "I know that bitch is fickle""

Strolling through Westend, with her eyes open this time, Bel was utterly surprised" there seemed to be so many changes in the area.

"Not a good sign for someone who wants to use the place for hiding secrets""

Yet with all the new life there were still a variety of abandoned buildings available. Maybe "abandoned" wasn't the right word, since some may have taken to squatting in them' nevertheless, for the enterprising at heart, there were many places in decent enough shape left to homestead.

Bel began to formulate her plans. "It may be sooner rather than later that I can return to claim the wayward Silf after all?" The thought brought a smile to her lips, lightening the darkness that had lain upon her features as if lifting a cloud away from the sun. It had been a long time since she'd had good situations happening, rather than the bad to worse kinds. She found herself looking suddenly forward to the future.

Passing by a house on a familiar corner she realized with a start that she simply didn't recognize it. She paused, that green gaze wandering over the place curiously. She was nearly certain that the house had not been on this corner before" In fact, were she still feeling lost, this house would have thrown her a curve. But she wasn't lost and there was a house" A brow arched as she sniffed at the air surrounding the place. "The house doesn't look new, it looks as if it's been on this spot since" well, forever"" But Bel knew it hadn't been. The WestEnd was attracting an interesting community indeed!

A sign strung from a steel poll read: The Midnight Hatter 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Mon " Sun.

Bel found it odd, and wished she had time to investigate. "Maybe later"" She told herself as she pondered if their merchandise were hats" just hats, or something else entirely' In Rhy"Din, who knew"

Moving onward she came to a corner where a vendor of vegetables", (bragging about being bruised not abused), stood closed. Here she noticed the air had grown heavy with the smell of spice, incense and herbs. Again that delicate brow arched as she glanced down the street towards the direction from whence the smells seemed to be coming" But in the darkness she couldn't really make out details. A half shrug dropped as she continued forward again promising to explore the changes to WestEnd at another time, (preferably during the daylight when *most* places tend to be open, save of course the Midnight Hatter, their hours were pretty strange.)

She found it much easier to exit the WestEnd than she had to find her way in to it, but as soon as she stepped outside the perimeter that defined WestEnd she received an urgent message from the Blood she had set to watch the O&A.

"Lady Bel" Lady Bel, where have you been" I've been trying to reach you for over an hour now!" the mental communiqu" came rapid fire and emotional. "They showed up with three mages and whoosh, the O&A was suddenly just rubble!! There wasn't time for me to do anything at all!"

Bel paused on the sidewalk at the edge of WestEnd letting the news digest slowly before responding. "There was nothing you could have done, sweets" nor was there any expectations of you, save one" so, no worries, yes" Now"Did you see any of the *lawyers*" Were any of the *three* present"" Bel knew that the ones present would be the ones to taste her fury first.

"Yes, yes, there were two of them, I'm sure." Came the quick reply.

"Which two""

"Howe and I think it was the big guy, Dewey, but he kinda lurked in the shadows, like he didn't wanna be seen, ya know""

Bel let her laugh fall cold and harsh, unheard by the reporting Blood. "Yes, he's a snake; he would try and hide" You did well, go back to the House and let no one see you!"

She didn't want DCH to know that the Family had been watching, she, like Corwyn, believes in keeping the enemy guessing; the less they know the better.

"Right-o, Lady Bel, I'll be careful that no one sees!"

Bel severed the mental link, she wanted to keep her thoughts tight to herself and it was then that she became aware of Sid buzzing in the back of her brain. Sid was indeed in town, currently tending at the Dragon, just as Bel had hypothesized!

"Where the hell have you been"" Bel demanded through their shared mental link.

"Whatcha mean, "where the "ell "ave I been?"! The better question be where the "ell "ave ye been, Dux"" came Sid's dry response.

"I"" Bel paused, "Ahhhh' You see, that's a bit of a story, Sid" Best answered later, when we have more time" What did you do to the WestEnd""

"Whatcha mean, "what did I do to the WestEnd?" I din"na do a thing!" Even in mental speak Sid's tone sounded defensive.

"Oh, reeeally"" Bel returned sarcastically. "Then please, do explain how come when I came upon your Brownstone all I saw was" *Nothing*""

"Oooooh, that." Sid's chuckle carried through the psychic connection even though it couldn't be heard aloud by Bel. "I cast a lil" spell to protect Scottie, me and the twins. The brethren were gettin" too close fer comfort, Bel, so I just cast a lil spell, one I've used a *thousand* times afore." Sid tried to keep her tone casual but again there was that hint of defensiveness, almost as if Sid was attempting to delude herself"

"Well, it isn't my job to set Sid straight' If Sid want's to pretend that she's done nothing" then who am I to argue"" Bel smirked to herself.

"Still, WestEnd seems to be off the *radar* Sid and I don't just mean *your* house""

"Aye, I know"" Sid sounded mournful and dismayed as if the changes in WestEnd were a personal strike against her. "It be all them newcomers, settin" themselves up" I miss the quiet, Bel!"

"I bet you do", Bel's amused smirk growing with every word mentally uttered by her sister, but she doesn't allow Sid to hear her reactions, she keeps those thoughts to herself.

"Mind if I stay at your house for a bit' I'm thinking of setting up a place in WestEnd too"" Bel doesn't inform Sid as to the why of her decision, not yet; she'll save that for later.

"Aye, sure, t"would be nice "avin" another soul about the place, just seems empty with Scottie an' the twins gone."

"Heading to the Dragon now, see you soon."

"Grand, be lookin" fer ye." And with that the mental link went back to a static noise buried somewhere in the background of Bel's mind.

Glancing about Bel found herself meandering down Main Street of Old Town Rhy"Din only a couple of blocks from the Dragon. She noticed One-Legged Mary was still haunting her corner; she didn't seem to be attracting many clients tonight. Some things in Rhy"Din hadn't changed after all. The thought reassured her as she tossed Mary a wave while continuing on to the inn.

At least staying at Sid's meant she didn't have to keep her vigilance up twenty-four seven, she'd be able to get a lot more done without expending the energy in hunting for her hunters. Bel's mood however had darkened appreciably; even looking at the silver lining wasn't having the positive influence she'd hoped. The O&A gone to rubble, Sun MIA, Sid in denial, Silf having become her own personal responsibility, Corwyn playing his games (yet again), the Above trying to kill her, (what?s new"), and lawyers to punish' That was a lot on one plate. But at least she had Sid to compare notes with' if, that is, Sid would step outside of her own delusions long enough for them to chat"

Bel shrugged pushing her thoughts aside as she skipped up the steps leading into the Dragon, she'd find out soon enough. A smile was gifted to Guido, the Dragon's bouncer, as he held the door open for her" just like the old days. For the second time that night she thought, "There is comfort in the small things that manage to remain the same."
