Skywize

The night was still filled with rain. The streets were running with the muddy runoff from both houses and hills. A single, small form was kneeling in this muck, hunched over, his face cupped in his small hands. His ears, his small stature, revealed him to be elven. He was perfectly still, except for the occasional sob, causing his body to shiver, not from the cold, but from sheer emotional distress. This was the spot. This was where the one woman he had loved, the woman he cared about, had given her life.

Skywize knelt there for hours. Tears flowing freely from his eyes. Ariana was gone. She hadn't talked to him since that horrible night, the night Gabe had attacked that man, Nicholai. That night that the vampire had turned this wonderful woman away from him. Taken her from his life so cruelly. She had seemed to want it though, so there was nothing to be done in the matter. He reminded himself of this almost daily. There was nothing he could do.

His hand strayed up to his neck, seeking comfort in the feel of his pendant. Yet, just like every time, his hand came into contact with bare skin. He never could remember that he had given the pendant to Mary Read, so that she could protect herself. He did not realize that she would never return it though. He slumped forward, crying even more. There was little left to him now. In his current state, he did not notice the man creeping in the shadows, avoiding the limited lights of the night. The storm, and his own sobs, prevented Skywize from hearing the man sneak up behind him. His own agony and despair prevented him from crying out when the knife slide into his back. Rough hands searched him, removing anything of value from his person, as he slowly bled to death, on the very spot that Ariana had died.

He began to smile though. He knew, this way at least, he would finally be together once more with his lost beloved. His eyes began to cloud over, and then all was dark...
