Benjamin Piers

Benjamin did pay more attention than he let on quite often. He dealt with closed mouth people, who didn't necessarily say more with actions than words, and sometimes were just plain confusing. It was easier to watch from a distance until things settled.

So while it might have been surprising or strange to some that Benjamin suddenly decided it was time for a night out, it made perfect sense to him.

First off, he needed a car. Benjamin poked through the rental companies and found precisely what he was looking for: A boat of a vehicle, a vast 1959 Cadillac convertible in lipstick red. The company renting it guaranteed its safety and the safety of its passengers, listing of an arcana of spells that had been built into the car.

Next, Benjamin needed the venue. He knew 'Guardians of the Galaxy' could be watched anywhere, but he didn't want to go just anywhere. He found a drive in theater, and quickly booked the car. 'Guardians of the Galaxy' was playing in a double bill with 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'. Perfect.

It got better. While telling Lirenel and Gemethyst about the evening he'd planned with Joy, Brian, and Brandon, Gemethyst abruptly decided to buy the car for him. Lirenel looked over the website and found an El Dorado in black that called out to him.

So less than twenty four hours later, Benjamin found himself in possession of the lipstick red beauty. Fortunately, Lirenel's new home had the garage space for the huge cars, Benjamin would have to build a proper shed for his.

As night started to fall, Benjamin pulled the huge Caddy up to a Brownstone in the West End, and rolled out of the car to get his guests in gear. He wore a colorful Hawaiian shirt in blues, peg leg Levis, and red Chucks. Ready for a retro night of super heroes and space.

Beautiful Joy

Beautiful Joy swiped the screen of her phone and tapped on the calender app, checking for the thousandth time, the time and date Benjamin Piers would pick her, Bran and her twin brother to go to the drive in theater. Only hours away and she still couldn't believe they would all be leaving soon to see...a movie. She had seen movies, on her computer and sometimes when they could get a television to work but only on small screens and never in Faerie.

She waited on the porch of the Brownstone alternating looking down at the screen and texting her brother to hurry up. Texting Bran to see if he was ready. Texting Benjamin to make sure he was coming in that caddy. She'd never seen a car like it until Benjamin shared the link with her. It was magnificent, but not as pretty, she thought, as Star or Titan, the Pookha that glamoured itself as a feather-legged Shire. She texted Benjamin, fingertips flying over the keys and unmindful of the fact Benjamin was probably driving and couldn't answer any of her texts, to inquire if horses could be ridden to these movies?

Guardians of the Galaxy! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! She looked up the movie and thought it interesting. Not that walking talkingturtles carrying Japanese weaponry was that uncommon in RhyDin. She'd seen far more interesting beings in Faerie and in her trips to the Marketplace with her family and their friends. But heroes saving the galaxy, misfits and criminals, stepping up to do the right thing. It sang to her heart. She couldn't wait to see it. She couldn't wait to hang out with her friend Benjamin. She couldn't wait to sit next to Bran Danser.

Around her, the weeds eeking life out in the cracks in the pavement and bricks grew by inches. The evening sun's pink and oranges grew brighter. She was so happy. The happiest she'd been since Bran confronted his father, Lirenel, in the Dreamscape. They had all been so miserable. It rained in the WestEnd for days. That her parents allowed she and her brother to go to the movies was a big step. She knew this. They were always so paranoid about 'enemies' and safety. Joy sometimes wanted to scream. When those times happened, the weather, even in constant Faerie, would suffer. The only thing that might ruin the night would be her moody brother, Brian Scot.

She and Bran decided since Benjamin had a classic car, which Bran seemed to understand better than Joy — these classic vehicles of the World, they would dress as the youth in the caddy's heyday. Together, when they were allowed to be, studied the fashions of the late 1950's World. She wore a plain white, short-sleeved blouse and pair of green, blue and cream vertical striped Capris she had sewn herself. Cork-soled wedge sandals and a pair of large black sunglasses finished the look off. She couldn't wait for Bran to see her.

Sparked with sudden inspiration, she backed out of the texts and went surfing for dress patterns. She had seen several that might make a good base for her next M-GoR cosplay. She almost didn't notice Benjamin Piers pulling up in that cherry Caddy.

Tucking the white, short-sleeved shirt (sleeves rolled high) into his black, grey and off white silver, vertical pinstripe wool gabardine, high waist, double pleated, wide leg trousers, Bran felt his phone buzz in his pocket. He smiled. Joy again, no doubts. He tugged the slim thing out and read the text. He was across the street for crying out loud! But he loved texts from her and tapped a quick 'otw' answer with a <3 after it.

He slid the slim leather belt through the loops, fastened it and checked his look. He considered the tie, but didn't want to go wildly overboard. The red checkerboard of it made his eyes hurt. He opted instead for the glasses. He didn't need glasses, but these were frames, plain glass, just for fun specs. The horn rims were perfect for Benjamin's retro night.

He needed this. Lirenel wouldn't stop talking to him, asking if he was happy, if he needed anything. The elf seemed mad to help him adjust. Had Lirenel adjusted to Papa's death? Seemed like it. The elf had his lovers. Bran shivered. Ugh. Too many of them. How was he not a fractured, crazy mess" Maybe he was. Going out with one of them would have weirded Bran out except that he was getting to go with Joy and Brian. And in a classic Caddy, no less!

Pop would have loved it.

His eyes stung. He muttered a curse. Joy would be surprised. He wiped at his eyes. "God, but I miss you, Pop," he told the mirror because in his own face he saw Jack Danser's. It irked him that one of Lirenel's lovers had his father's name. Irked him no end. But....he was Joy's daddy.

What could a guy do"

He slicked back his hair just like James Dean in 'Giant' and re-assessed his look.

'Byss yeah.

He gathered up his slim wallet and headed out the door of Lirenel's new digs across from Joy's house.
