The WestEnd district has been Sid's home base since she came to RhyDin. Her flat once occupied half the first floor in a Brownstone that was renovated a few years back to become the family dwelling for her, her mate Scottie and their twins. At the center, at the heart of all the neglect that is the WestEnd one might find this Brownstone.
Though I have ideas of what the neighborhood is like, I always wished to open a folder, give the basics of a setting, and hope that others would come along and join in the magic. Helping to populate it, making it live and breathe.
Urban fantasy - especially Bordertown's world and that of Shadowrun - the gritty edginess of Gibson's cyberpunk visions, the noir genre, post-apocalyptic tales, all these hold a fascination with me. Places where hope is cherished and hard won, where there is a beauty to the darkness, to the edge one dances. This neighborhood was envisioned on the basics of such genres.
Please join me in the magic of building this dark pocket of RhyDin. Make up businesses, gangs, families (real, chosen, thrown together), clubs . . . anything, anyone you wish that could be encountered in a forgotten part of the city where those who make it home try to build a life for themselves. Expand upon the local color you find in others" tales, help this place live.
WestEnd is a piece of RhyDin, so, certainly, everyone is invited to post here. Share the magic! I truly hope you will.
These are the setting basics:
WestEnd exists on the border between the Old City (Low Town, the sector of RhyDin where the Red Dragon Inn lies) and Stars End Sector (High Town). A third side of the neighborhood butts up against the Warehouse District that lies just beyond the Docks.
It is a fairly dilapidated section of town. The easternmost peak, a boundary shared with the Old City, is marked by a Clock Tower belonging to Our Lady of Perpetual Misery. The bells of Perp Miz ring out the incorrect time (they've been known to chime fourteen o"clock) from sunset to sunset. Until recent, the sounds on hour and half-hour have been about the only noise in this ramshackle district; its buildings and crumbling store fronts not even worthy of the most desperate squatters.
But that has all begun to change . . .
Something has happened, something has spread out to encompass the whole of this neighborhood and turned it into a kind of dead zone. Word has gotten around that within the boundaries one is "off the radar", so to speak. To tech, magics, psi and otherworldly sight the area doesn't exist, locating anyone or anything within its zone is next to impossible.
Ley lines, manna - things are warped in the WestEnd even more so than the rest of RhyDin. The workings of magics and tech have been known to give twisted results, if they work it all. The spells to hold a location stable fritz out more often in this community than other spots around the city.
Folks and beings have begun to filter in, the disenfranchised of RhyDin are finding being "off the radar" suits their purpose. Whether running from someone or something, conducting business of a nefarious nature, or for those with their own agendas for a place like this and its people the WestEnd has become the spot to go.
Come, have fun!
