THE SETTING

Children's Book Day will be held outside as a picnic type setting, to the north of the main building of Academy of Bristle Crios, south of the Combat Annex on campus. Many blankets and sitting pillows will be available to lounge on while reading a good book. Many books will be available on short, portable book carts. Large beach umbrellas will also be set up in some of the designated reading areas to offer shade for the readers. Although the event is primarily for children, all are welcome to come and read. Families may consider it a fun outing filled with books, snacks, and entertainment.

THE STORYTELLERS

The Academy of Bristle Crios welcomes volunteers to act as Storytellers. Feel free to select a storytelling area to host from or may create your own area with blankets, pillows, and wherever else you wish to bring to enhance your storytelling area. Feel free to read one of the featured animal books to the guests, read a book about your country were you grew up, or any other books important to you. They may also help contribute in any other ways, like helping to pass out refreshments and keeping an eye on the children and animals.

THE SNACKS

Treat Stations will be set up with chilled fruit juices, milk, and water. Warm beverages will include warm apple cider, hot chocolate, and hot tea. Snacks will include fresh raw fruits and vegetables with dipping sauces. Fruits will come with peanut butter dip or vanilla yogurt sauce. Vegetables will come with cheesy sauce or creamy ranch dip. Don't forget to offer the animals a few veggies too! At around noon, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches will be provided with mixed fruit smoothies. The simple Headmistress would be in her more casual attire for the outdoor event. Lydia would peek out from time to time between her meetings and classes to read a few books to the guests. She thought she would read a story of friendship between The Lion and the Mouse.

With her hair pinned back in a messy bun, Miranda would happily take a seat in the sun warmed grass reading tales she grew up with.

Michael Donnelly

Date: 2013-03-28 11:54 EST
"I don't think this is such a good idea," Michael said as he looked around nervously. "Why am I doing this again?"

"You're doing this because you need to get back out in the world again. We both do. And because it's for a good cause," replied the pretty blond whose arm was linked with his. "You're a writer, Michael. All these kids are potential readers."

"Yeah, but I don't write kids' books," he pointed out. So why was he reading one"

"Maybe someday you will," Elena replied, rising onto her tiptoes to brush a kiss against his cheek. "Now, go get 'em, Tiger." She winked and pushed him away. "Oh! Don't forget your book!" She held out a hard-cover book with a red cover and a drawing of a grumpy, little boy who looked like he didn't want to get out of bed. She knew he'd felt like that plenty of times; they both had.

"Think they'll like it?" he asked, uncertainly.

"I think they'll love it," she replied with a warm, reassuring smile. "Now, go on before you chicken out."

"You won't leave, will you?"

"I'll be right here. Promise," she said, crossing her heart.

He frowned, but tucked the book beneath an arm and started toward the crowd to await his turn.

"Michael!" He turned to find Elena blowing him a kiss, and he couldn't help but smile. It was primarily because of her that he'd found the will to live again.

As a published author, Michael Donnelly was no stranger to books and he knew how important reading was. Reading had opened up a whole new world to him when he was a boy. He'd chosen the book he was to read carefully. It didn't go along with the animal theme, but he'd laughed when he'd read it, and it carried an important message: Everyone has bad days sometimes, but not all the time.

The book Michael had chosen to read to the group was Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. He hoped they enjoyed it as much as he had.

The smith looked down at the book in his hands and smiled, this would be as much fun as it had been for him before. The children were important to him. Through them he had found a desire to move forward again. It was time to give back to them.

"Here come Peter Cottontail. Hopping down the bunny trail."

Fiona ONeill

Fiona would be reading "On My Leaf" and would enjoy using the cute ladybug finger puppet to make her storybook come to life.

On My Leaf: Written by Sara Gillingham and illustrated by Lorena Siminovich

Desmond Granger

Date: 2013-03-28 14:28 EST
It was Desmond's first outing since he'd been released from the hospital, and he couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. The sun was shining, spring was in the air, and he felt happy. He and Piper found a quiet spot beneath a blossoming cherry tree and spread an old red and white checkered blanket on the ground. They'd brought along a picnic lunch and a book Desmond had been reading to Lyneth one chapter at a time before bed, entitled The Night Fairy. For reasons known only to his little adopted family, it seemed appropriate.

Rage and Shadow

Date: 2013-03-29 14:48 EST
Taking time off from his carpentry, Victor makes an appearance down at the Bristle Crios campus to read a book. The book he chose is The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear by Don and Audrey Wood.

His rumbling voice is particularly effective at creating the proper mood when describing the Bear. He makes sure to show the children the brightly colored images throughout the book, and surely by the end the little ones will be smiling along with the Little Mouse.

He takes a box of strawberries he shares with the little ones when the book is over.

Serine Delin

Date: 2013-03-29 16:22 EST
Always happy to help children learn and grow, Serine wouldn't miss this event for the world. She would be reading Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes.

Of course Shy will be there. Two books in particular are brought along to the Children's Book Day celebration at the Academy of Bristle Crios.

One is a tome containing selected folktales from her homeland, written by Peter Christen Asbjornsen and Jorgen Moe.

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii136/NorseLady_photos/NorwegianFolktales.jpg

The other book is an adaptation of the ancient tale of a little Norwegian boy who visits the North Wind, written by Freya Littledale; illustrated by Troy Howell. The North Wind's magical gifts to Peter, which are recompense for blowing away the flour needed to feed him and his poor mother, mysteriously lose their magic before Peter gets them home.

This is the story she reads first!

Unseen Killer

Date: 2013-04-02 11:30 EST
If Ripper will be the Literature professor at the Academy, then of course he must make an appearance! But unlike his colleagues, who will be reading fairy tales and pixie dust and all that other nice, flowery stuff, this civilized xenomorph will naturally adhere to the dark side....along with his trademark mottled green scarf and beanie, and the finger-bone bow tie strapped onto his collar.

For the event, Ripper will be setting up shop in his own eerie little corner, complete with spider webs and little music and fog, where he will be reading for the entire event nothing but children's horror stories.

Indeed, the monster alien will be reading selections from the Goosebumps children's novels by R.L. Stine.

Reader beware, you're in for a scare!

First selection (and easily the best one!)

Cath

Date: 2013-04-02 19:13 EST
And over on the north side of the grounds on a worn-looking blanket covered in stars and moons is Lise Mason, Robert Cath, and a very large, very friendly dog named Max. And they'll be reading:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/51/Goodnightmoon.jpg

Robert Cath will be reading the book out loud, while the talented Lise Mason recites the content in Rhy'dinian Sign Language, hopefully getting the kids to pick up and sign a few common phrases with her!

Eregor

Date: 2013-04-06 22:51 EST
Eregor's there at one of the storyteller spots, reading the tale of a young dog named Dominic who goes off in search of adventure and finds it.

http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1311992761l/860745.jpg

"Dominic was a lively one, always up to something. One day, more restless than usual, he decided there wasn't enough going on in his own neighborhood to satisfy his need for adventure. He just had to get away."

And get away he does, embarking on a path filled with new and wonderful experiences. Along the way, he meets many good folk, showing his kind and generous spirit, and repeatedly thwarts the sinister machinations of the notorious Doomsday Gang. It's a heartwarming tale that young and old alike can enjoy!

Rena A Cronin

Date: 2013-04-07 01:36 EST
And somewhere in her little corner, surrounded by stuffed animals featured from the book, was Rena. The book she was reading was one she enjoyed from her childhood.

http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/u519/renaacronin/wildthings_zpsc00886a6.jpg

"A young boy named Max, after dressing in his wolf costume, wreaks havoc through his household and is disciplined by being sent to his bedroom. As he feels agitation with his mother, Max's bedroom undergoes a mysterious transformation into a jungle environment, and he winds up sailing to an island inhabited by malicious beasts known as the "Wild Things." After successfully intimidating the creatures, Max is hailed as the king of the Wild Things and enjoys a playful romp with his subjects; however, he decides to return home, to the Wild Things' dismay. After arriving in his bedroom, Max discovers a hot supper waiting for him."
