Hunter adjusted his uniform....again. He didn't find it odd at all that there were no civilian clothes in his closet to wear. He'd never really had a need to hide the title he earned as admiral, plus in many cases his pristine uniform had done the talking for him, opening many doors that otherwise would have remained closed to himself and Fleet. He had discarded the tunic mostly to keep from having to iron it later though. There were a variety of things he wanted to do tonight, assuming that Jack had taken the hint he hit her over the head with like a blunt object and showed up not unlike her wrench throwing. Shaking his head with a chuckle at the thought Hunter continued to fuss about his quarters trying to make sure everything was in place. He pulled a bottle out, and poured himself a glass of whiskey before settling in to wait, eyes glancing around the room double and triple checking, that and look at the clock repeatedly over the next quarter hour. She had done her best to clean up and set the alarms on several droids. The crew wandering about the halls were doing double takes as she sprinted by. Was that....The bell to Admiral's quarters would chime and behind the door would be standing the one and only Jack. Sure there were still smudges on her face, but she was use to that, consider it her daily make up routine. The clothing however was another matter. Black flared pants with little skull and cross bones on the pockets. Dark purple tank top with a corset over top. The corset zipped instead of laces with heavy clasps over top fitted rather like a fencer's corset. Hair pulled back in a sloppy pony tail. There would be nothing in her hands, but rest assured she had brought a few things to offer.

Hunter stood aside from the door. He hadn't been over eager in his rushed pace, hurrying to the door to open it. No internal log playback would show him jumping up from the couch to get there and be ready to step aside in a crisp military fashion. He did bow his head at her entry though. "Welcome, Jack....I am so glad you decided to take me up on the offer to come by and spend a little time with me." He lifted a hand to gesture to the couch and table that had a variety of games meant for two.

Glowing green eyes drank in his domain. There was a lot you could learn about someone from what they kept around them. Then again...if they were hardly ever there. She bowed her head as she entered and with a look about she turned to face him again with a smile. There was not a single speck of dust on any surface, books in descending order on the shelf and not much that made this apartment look lived in. "And why wouldn't I after our talk" It's pretty clear that we each need someone to pull us out of our work and our own minds. Are you hungry?" Jack moved with ease to the replicator falling into her natural need to keep busy.

Hunter nearly scoffed, except that might have given away too much. Instead he would address her question about food. "I was a little busier when I came back to my quarters today, so no I haven't eaten." Hadn't eaten but every part of him was impeccably trimmed and neat. His uniform pants well creased, the shirt as near to flawless as he knew how to make it. "If you haven't eaten I would enjoy sharing a meal with you as well." He was glad he had practically ordered her to come by tonight. "There are a few bottles in the cupboard under the counter."

"Pour me whatever you are having and I will order up a bunch of gaming food." Jack chuckled and tossed her head back. The room was perfect as could be and here she stood the brooding dark spot that dared to mar it. Ha! Relishing the thought as she hoped her new coding worked. "Computer, activate new programming Jack Omega 21. Prepare taco nachos, wings in buffalo, teriyaki, stupid hot and smoky sweet, twisted caramel corn and beer battered onion rings. Oh and a basket of calamari fried." The replicator was either going to have a meltdown or go full tilt. Jack started pulling things out and setting them on the side table. "Is that enough, Hunter??

Hunter watched things coming out of the replicator and wondered if it was more than enough. On the bright side though the leftovers would go back into the replication system. "I'd say it should be, though I don't know what your normal regime is." He poured her a glass of whiskey as well and set it on the table so he could help her carry. "I don't know what kind of games you favor, I like most strategy games. 3 dimensional chess, axis and allies, battleship, I pulled a deck of cards out too." Ice blue eyes looked at her smudged face and the makings of a tiny smile found his lips.

"I do enjoy all of those games. Maybe next time I will replicate one of those old gaming systems and we can see who is better at Mario Brothers. Zelda is a good one, but mainly one player." Grinning as she handed things over to him. "It may sound like a lot of food, but it is all small portions and finger food so we should be able to munch through it. Besides that there is still dessert." Oblivious to the marks on her face, Jack continued and when the last dish was set down her hand quickly wrapped around that whiskey. "We are at your place so your call what game we try first." Despite the banter, food and games, Jack was just happy that they were able to be so at ease with each other. No worrying over anything, but how much time had passed and even that was really more of a side note.

He considered the things he had out, and realized that what he wanted was time looking her way. Most of the games required they be on different sides of the room. "Honestly, I think playing battleship might be what I would like to do." He took up a position on the couch, back against the arm and his leg pulled up under him. He handed her the red board and took the blue for himself. "I think red might be your color." Hunter couldn't decide if he had just tried to flirt with her or not. He refused to admit that he might be blushing though. "Are we making Christmas jokes?" Jack couldn't help teasing him as she sat Indian style on her side of the couch. The little red board sitting comfortably in the crooks of her knees. "Besides, I do like the color red now and again." Carefully choosing where to set the ships, she only hoped she would stand a chance. Granted there was some skill in laying a grid pattern which she could avoid, but that could be predicted to. Best not to over think it. Wait! Wasn't there an algorithm for this? Leaning over to pick up an open bottle of pale ale, Jack poured a small glass for them both and chugged it down letting the room spin for a second. "Game on."

If this had been a real battle, he would have set up his pieces according to fire power and maneuverability. It wasn't quite like that though. Here it was more a matter of figuring out how your opponent thought and getting lucky enough to find that first hit on any ship. His own were spread out and placed in different directions. "Christmas jokes" I hadn't considered making any but I guess I could try. He looked at her as she drank, joining her with a drink from his glass. "You are the guest here so I will give you the first shot." He pictured her in red, not a gaudy amount though, a highlight here and there. Why the thoughts came to him like that he wasn't sure. Hunter fingered his earring a gesture that to those who knew him would understand he was nervous. "I meant because I am a glowing shade of green." Setting the empty bottle on the table, she enjoyed the rush as it washed over her. "Thank you for the first shot and we will see if it brings my any luck." She took note of him playing with the earring. The intricate links and beads in a cascade down the length of it. It was something that she would have to get a lot closer to appreciate when they were closer. Hell they had been in a hot tub together! Looking over the blank side of her board, what would be a good move" "We could make this game more interesting. Say every hit we have to answer a question or every sink. I will leave that choice in your hands." Winking as she picked her mark. "H2" He looked down to the board and took a white pin out. "Miss....I like the way your eyes glow, it draws attention to the shape of your face." Hunter's ice blue eyes looked back up at her considering her offer of questions for hits or sink. "There are a lot of places where we could miss, so perhaps we make it interesting. A miss from you gives me a question about you, a hit gives you one to ask from me. The reverse when it is my turn?" He let the corner of his mouth raise slightly while he gave her the opportunity to consider his offer. "I'll even let that be my first question. A 7."

Following suit she took out a white peg and marked her own board trying to duck a little lower behind it to hide the rising color in her cheeks. "Not everyone finds it appealing. Some have called it unnerving." Peering back into Hunter's eyes her wings flickered in amusement. An interesting proposition, though a dangerous one in the best way possible. Settling up with a much heavier drink, Jack held it up in salute. "Ask away then." Would he go for the basics" Favorite color, music, and so on or be a little more daring" He may have missed with his shot, but he had managed a hit on her it seemed. She was probably going to get as many reactions from him though. "Okay, though that was my miss so you should be asking about me." He thought for a moment, not about what he wanted to know, rather if it was appropriate to ask. "Your wings look very delicate, do you need to take special precautions with the work you do in order to keep them whole or are they more durable than they seem?" The idea of starting small had occurred to him, but he really wanted to know more than that, especially since he didn't know how long he would have her in this position. "My wings are rare among my mother's kind. Only she and I have them out of all my siblings. For a male to have them it is even rarer." Taking a sip of the rich whiskey, she contemplated his question. Having them all her life she really never gave it more than a passing thought. "Having wings does not interfere with my work, it just means that it might take me a bit longer to squirm under something. They are more durable then they look, but by texture rather gossamer like silk." Adjusting her back, she leaned forward so that he could touch them easily. "Go ahead. It's okay. I do want to know though, have you always wanted to be an Admiral or was this more an accidental promotion' H4" He hesitated a moment before reaching to touch her wing. She had said they were more durable than they looked, so he did his best not to let his hesitation show in his touch. The pads of his fingers slid along the outer edge of them before slipping down along the surface. Hunter swallowed visibly as he felt that silken texture. "That was a hit by the way..." His free hand pushed a red pin into the pt class boat. "I didn't always want to be an admiral, I didn't go to the academy until my mentor passed. He pushed me towards it because they could help me with....Well I wanted to be a doctor of sorts." Hunter pulled his hand back with a reluctant jerk. He would have been happy to keep exploring it, but suddenly it seemed more personal. "I got pulled into command though, battle plans don't always work the way the people in charge want them too. B8"

"Hit." It felt nice to have someone touch her wings honestly instead of brute-fully or rather poking. She was all for people being curious, but there was a point that lingered more towards annoying. There were many questions she had for him after he brought up wanting to be a doctor. What kind of doctor" What was his field of interest' Was there certain experiments or challenges he wished to overcome" Biting her lower lip, Jack waited for his questions to come her way. "H3"

Hunter pulled another red pin out and pushed it into the little boat. "Hit, sink." He pulled the piece off the board and set it in the side pocket. "I'm curious about a number of things, right now I suppose it has to do with finding ways to work around the rules. Has that always been something you have done or was there something that happened to you?" He wasn't really sure why he was asking, though he had noticed she didn't like the uniform code, and there were other things that his crew did that she seemed to avoid. Like hacking the coms so she couldn't be found. "B7" "Hit and sink." There was no attempt at hiding her chuckle, the outright laughter held in check. It wasn't that his question was unwarranted, but rather prodding at something she held dear. "It is not that I want to break the rules, the rules just do not apply to the current situation. The uniform I choose not to wear for the simple matter I don't fit in it." Jack wiggled her wings to prove a point. "Second, there are many kinds of rules. Rules for safety, like warning labels on chemical bottles. Rules to keep order, which by my own nature I have issues with. If you haven't noticed I am a rather messy engineer. Last rules for the sake of rules, like which side of the plate the salad fork sits on. They serve no purpose other than to show you are or were paying attention when you were told. Those to me are meant to be taken with a grain of salt. It all depends on the situation, the people and what it could cost to break that rule. Personally, I don't care if I am never invited to parties." Winking as she rolled her shoulders stretching. Where to aim...where to aim....B10"

Hunter put a red pin up on the top of his board to indicate the ship he had sunk. He liked the sound of her laugh, would like to hear it again. "The points are taken, rules where they apply, I think for the most part on a ship they are meant to make things run as smoothly as we can. If everyone knows how to react within their jobs, there will be a little less panic when we need to react in an emergency. There will be emergencies too. But you haven't asked a question." He pulled another red pin out and pushed it into a ship. "Hit by the way." Hunter took a breath and waited for his turn in the hot seat. "E 4" A wicked grin crossed her face as she mused over what to do. Dare she make him squirm' "Why don't we hit a little closer to home. Are you a momma's boy or were you daddy's little helper?" There were many levels as to why she asked that question. First off it was good practice considering how screwed up her family was and if they became more than ship mates and friends, it would be good to know what might send something flying at her. "Miss and let's see if B12" Hunter didn't know how to answer that exactly. "Mostly I suppose I was hard like my mother, a real embarrassment to my family. I left home young and haven't been back. Miss....They wanted me to stay home, get married....I wanted to be a doctor. Males are not given a lot of choices where I come from. If they knew what I am they would be shamed." He kept his eyes on her even as he placed the white pin. There was no betrayal of how her question made him feel, his tone stayed as flat as it had for most of the questions so far. "My brothers were much better sons than I was. F6" The rest of the battle passed with more casual questions, keeping things light hearted. It wasn't that either one of them didn't want to know more, but there was a time and a place not to mention the fact that this was supposed to be fun and relaxing! Not an interrogation. When the glasses had been emptied and most of the chicken wings gone it had come down to the last battleship. A race, peg by peg to sink the damn ship and what do you know....Jack might have missed.

"Not that I didn't enjoy sinking your battleships, but how about we play something with a little more fight to it. Faster pace and add a hard drink just for grins and giggles." Jack grabbed a deck of cards quickly pulling out the jokers and shuffling as if she belonged in a gambling parlor of a Ferengi. The grin on her face priceless with each bridge. Clearly she had something in mind and was going to send Hunter sprawling on the floor again like the mess hall. "Name of the game is slap jack and I don't mean this ugly mug." Dealing half the deck to each of them. "Toss a card down at the same time. If they match slap. If we tie throw down the next card and the higher card takes the lot. If you see a jack slap. Whoever taps out or has the deck is the winner. Any stakes or stipulations you would like to add" Wants" Dreams" Shots?" Wicked grin flashing out at Hunter as her hair tumbled free from her ponytail.

Hunter listened to Jack run down the rules. There was a quirk at the corner of his mouth with the adding of stakes. "Winner's choice sounds good. You can make the loser talk, or you can make him drink." He did use the word him on purpose figuring at least until he had run a few hands he would be on the losing end. He did put those ice blues on her face though and look at her with a tilted head. The hair falling and framing her face only reinforcing his next statement. "Who would ever consider you ugly, Jack?"

Nodding to herself mostly, Jack took off her boots and crossed her legs under her. "You might be surprised at that answer, but that isn't the game." Making a neat stack of her cards in her palm, one hand absently tucked the offending strand behind her ear. She could claim that she thought herself rather strange at times, well she knew she was strange. Never mind the brood of siblings that could be an army unto themselves, each one more stunning than the last. Smiling, Jack held the cards up. "On the count of three flip till we call into a rhythm with each other, okay?"

Hunter was rather surprised indeed at her deflection of the question as he found nothing particularly ugly about Jack. "Right..." He followed suit with her, stacking his cards and being distracted by the slid of hair in her other hand. He palmed his own stack and began counting down "Three, two one...." His first card hit the table, the five of diamonds. He did his best to look at her card keeping his hand hovering close to the pile. "I still say that you are not ugly though." One track mind kept him from remaining to quiet.

Glowing green eyes watched his hand over as her own card a two of clubs hit the table. Nothing to slap about. "Well, siblings make that question a little complicated and then you had different fathers in the mix and yeah." Jack counted and flipped another card already fast on the heels of counting again to get him use to the pace. Nothing. 1, 2, 3. Nope...."You are pretty handsome yourself." Winking as she tossed the next card down.

He turned the card over on her count, his pulse rising mildly. The anticipation must be getting to him, certainly not the compliment from Jack. He laid an 8 of clubs down now. "I've honestly never thought about what I look like beyond....Well traditional attire and the uniform." He forgot to leave his hand by the pile as he indicated the earring and the topknot. "Though to be honest the uniform would be frowned on."

"What would they do' Stick you in a dress?" Shaking her head as the cards kept falling and no matches yet. "Don't get my wrong, you have a great build, but I can't see you in lace." Jack had her share of lace dresses she would rather forget from childhood. Bows as big as her butt, mounds of lace and silk covering her feet and making noise none stop. "Jack!" Hand racing down to get there first. Wings flickering in excitement.

"That's actually quite accurate really." He was a moment too late his hand going down to cover hers. "Somehow I think that the numbers are against me with this game. What's your pleasure information or shall I drink something?" He nearly forgotten to let her hand up, pulling his hand away and hiding his embarrassment. Gathering up the cards when his hand left hers, Jack tried not to blush. For the ice man his hands were really warm and tender. Biting her lower lip as she boldly stared at him, Jack decided to cut him a break. "You pick what you want me to drink and I want to know are you having a good time?" I was simple enough and easy enough to give any answer too, but she would watch his face intensely to see if it was really what he wanted to say. Hunter poured her a shot of clear vodka before he answered. He hadn't missed the mild color to her cheeks though he hardly attributed that to his hand. "I have been enjoying myself....I can honestly say that it is more likely I am enjoying you though. A definite improvement from the way I normally spend my nights." He readied a new card and began to count. "Three, two, one...." Down went the next card, a queen of spades. "If it isn't too much to ask....I would like to do this again."

"With the answer you gave, I can happily agree. I have been enjoying tonight far more than being alone in my lab fighting a droid." Hoping to use the vodka as an excuse, Jack tossed it back quickly as the cold of it sent a shiver down her spine. No match. Counting again she tossed again and again. After a few cards or maybe that was the vodka sinking in.."You are very sweet for saying that. I am enjoying you too." Ahhhh! Matching queens!

His hand sped downward trying to get to the pile before her, though in part it was merely to get the opportunity to just touch even incidentally. He found the pile beneath his fingers, and a cooler hand atop his. The Admiral chose his victories, and the goals of a campaign. This particular battle had rules to it that made little sense. It wasn't about winning the game to him, but keeping her here and talking. "We could make this a normal part of our evenings....at least until you find someone you would prefer to spend your time with."

"Don't go selling yourself short. If there was somewhere else I wanted to be don't you think I would have left already?" One eyebrow raised as she moved to pour him a shot and wait for the question if that wasn't his question already. "Why' Is that your polite way of telling me you want to be sharing this night with someone else, Hunter?" Holding the drink up in challenge.

Hunter took the drink and slammed it down, the glass sounding on the table as he set it down. "If I hadn't wanted to share this night with you, I would simply be here alone as usual. I suppose that means you are welcome as long as you want to spend the time with me." His eyes slid from the glass back to her own glowing greens. "I rather like your company."

"I rather like you too. Even if I do have to tackle you to the ground now and again." Jack watched him drink the shot and smiled, hands already waiting to deal another card. It was oh so tempting to reach out and take his again. Warm and callused despite sitting in the captain's chair. "I believe I have to answer a question." Hair falling in her face again. A fair enough question, but the real question was did she catch any of that when his fingers brushed the rim of her ear or the warm in the small gesture. Licking her lips Jack really really had to think about what the question was. Could she blame the vodka still? "I...I wanted to be in fleet because of my father, but I didn't want his title or name to get me anywhere. I don't want to be high up because there are expectations, but I didn't want to be so low on the totem that I couldn't actually do important work." Mind rolling through all that she wanted to say and jumbling it up, all she could clearly think was how she didn't want his hand to pull away yet. "Age means experience, but not so old they can't see or accept what?s new. I have never needed an escort. Hell never let myself have one, but...

But, I wanted to have a fresh start. Be someplace where I couldn't be reached by family or family friends. To just be reached for because someone wants to." Did I really just say that! In her mind she was flailing in all directions and it showed in the rapid movement of her wings. Her face schooled and calm despite the rising color pink in her chest and neck. Hunter managed to pull a small smile out when she was so flustered. He hadn't intended it, but it was nice to know he wasn't the only one trying to keep their head straight. "Fair enough." He did reluctantly pull his hand away from her, letting the next card fall an ace of hearts. He really hadn't looked at it though the motion was simply something that needed doing, he was still looking at her face. "You should have someone reaching for you because they want to." He cleared his throat and looked down to see what her card might be. "I think I forgot to count." "I think we can let it slide." Jack tossed the card looking at Hunter. They were pretty much at a tie, but she would let him win if he kept this up. The card tumbled over showing the jack of hearts. Her hands didn't move for it, she could only keep smiling as her wings settled back down. Maybe leaning just a tad too much his way.

Hunter's hand fell slowly over the card, looking from it to her. He leaned forward too, sighing lightly as he moved closer. Remembering himself at the last moment he waited just that fraction from her, swallowing and closing his eyes before looking away. He knew he wasn't supposed to get close to the crew, though she was perhaps an exception. Was he just reading things poorly though' He shook his head chastising himself. "That was a jack right?" It felt like she was frozen as Hunter came closer to her. Panic flooding her body. Jack wanted to know where this would go, but if he kissed her. Trying to put it out of her mind and simple enjoy the moment then she heard her name. Looking down her hand over his. "Yeah, that was a Jack." Her fingers began to fill the gaps between his then the call came over Hunter's com. Duty as ever, she kept her frustrations to herself. Hunter let his fingers tighten around hers, still tempted to complete the distance and kiss her. When the coms went off his forehead dipped forward to touch hers. He tapped the com badge and spoke to the air. "What is it Lacha?" There was a moment of silence on the other end as that was not his usual response. His eyes looked into hers while he waited for whatever had happened now. "We are having issues in engineering and Ms Absinthe's badge is no longer showing up in our systems. Dex is also wishing to speak with you." Jack was trying very hard to be silent over being told she was a missing person. Gee, who would ever find her. The smile on her face only growing more as their foreheads sought comfort in their connection in a way the rest of them couldn't. There was a twitch at the name of Dex. She had heard that before, but where. He scoffed at hearing about Jack going 'missing' again. "I'm sure our engineer will turn up soon. Likely she is in a shielded area and will be coming out soon." He stiffened at hearing Dex was looking to communicate too. His eyes if anything went a little colder. "Tell the Admiral I will be with her in about half an hour. I need some time to freshen up." Had he caught her twitch' Did it mean anything? He was still trying to figure out this little woman and her quirks.

The agreement was given with respect and Jack waited til the com badge was shut down before bursting into laughter. "I guess this is good night to game night. A tie seems fair." She hadn't moved her head from his, taking note of his eyes changing. Her hand squeezed his a little tighter offering what comfort she could to the captain. Hopefully Dex wasn't too bad of a thing. "You know where to find me if you need to chat."

He delighted in her laughter the sound of it easing the tension that had built at the mention of the deskbound Admiral Dex. The squeeze of his hand was noted too though that was appreciated differently. "Tonight perhaps, but tomorrow is another day." And the one after that if he had his way. It wasn't often that he didn't get his way on the ship though. "I know one place to find you....some place that has very odd shielding." The hideaway room with the hot tub came to mind." I'll of course look for you there if I somehow lose track of you on internal sensors." "Just ask the droids. They know everything." Chuckling despite not wishing the night to end. Granted she was a night fae most of the time. Or would it be fairer to say a no sleep fae" For the first time since she was young, Jack actually looked forward to something other than work and it showed. Her eyes seemed to glow a bit brighter at his request, wings held high in delight. "Just remember to bring your own suit next time. I'm assuming you want me to leave first?" She didn't wish to bring it up, but it made sense. Could the admiral be seen with the missing engineer so soon? He gave her a nod for the droids as much as for needing her to leave. It wasn't what he wanted her to by any means but likely they would be cut off from each other often due to reason of duty. "I'll bring a suit, and perhaps even my own towel." His eyes shined as he said it. There was the temptation to say that he didn't think he needed one. But that would be forward of him and he really didn't want to scare the girl away. "I don't know how long this takes....Dex can be, obstinate I suppose."

"I think you know someone else who can be just as obstinate. If you keep changing the subject she will have a hard time not wanting to hang up." Jack was poking fun at herself as much as the thought of Hunter messing with this Dex for stopping their game night. Fingers still entangled with his, she really didn't want to leave. Duty having her rise from the couch, hoping it wouldn't take his smile. "I'll take the tubes back down to my lab. That way no one will see me." Part of her felt like a dirty secret, but that is what a good long soak in the hot tub was for. "Thank you for a great game night." He watched her rise, considering doing exactly that with Dex. His hand felt the loss of contact but he knew what was necessary. "It isn't that I don't want you seen. Only that you are..." Are what? He still wasn't overly sure. "There is no reason you can't be known to be here. Most would only believe that I am debriefing you, or you are updating me. I don't think the crew believes I have anything they might call....fun or entertaining." He did nod though. "Give me an hour before deciding that I am not coming though. It depends on why Dex is calling."
