The master alchemist had been quiet for a few months. The recovery and repairs to the Academy had gone well and classes were gearing up again. Yet, the alchemist was restless during her months of rest, investigation and family care. Ammy had begun a new path to everything in her life and it was being reflected in a new insight she had had. Having read over almost every alchemy journal, texts and scrolls, the majority of all alchemy was simply the reteaching, refining and relearning of the same old principles, the same results issuing simply more and more refined results equivalent to modern chemistry.

Ammy was beginning to realize that a lot of the mysticism and magic of alchemy was starting to fade and become quite mundane. With this realization she decided to set out to do something noteworthy to leave as a legacy to future students of the academy. She embarked on an endeavor to create a new form of Alchemy departing from all traditional and mythical methods.

So, with a new purpose in life that was peaceful and hopefully a contribution to the arts of magic, Ammy began to study anew to learn how to create the Solara Radium, roughly translated to Radiant Sun Alchemy. From this point on, any seeing Ammy would notice the professor had indeed changed dramatically. She was now a hybrid of Cheetah and Lioness, long gone was the Lupinossai appearance for now. Her magic was all but locked away, slowly being regained as she proved herself worthy of being an adult and a master of magic.

Hence forth, Ammy began to make ledger entries to keep track of what she had learned and the new breakthroughs into making this new form of alchemy come alive.

Solara Radium 01:

So far I am having doubts about this venture. Most of my ideas have already been put to the light, so to speak of ancient and modern alchemical journals. However I've noted the key concepts of alchemy use three types of energy: Chemical Catalysts, Reactive Reagents and Personal Essence.

Chemical catalysts are any soluble or non-soluble compounds that are used to bridge a gap between two stable reagents. These catalysts often elevate or degrade either stable reagent up or down the elemental tables causing their primary or distilled elements to bond together.

Reactive reagents are two solutions that are already in a constant state of instability; usually one has more electrons than the other and will rapidly redistribute among each other. However, some perform this distribution at a high rate causing explosive results or at a sluggish, 'watching paint dry' momentum.

Personal essence if often left to the areas of imbued or magical alchemy. The alchemist is often crafting elixirs to a specific task that is beyond the usual capabilities of the reagents or trying to harness the astronomical powers of the heavens. To accomplish this often, one wills a bit of their life force into the mixture by meditation, certain physical actions such as shaking a vial so many times each day and often for the more daring alchemist, drops of their own blood.

So how would my new path of alchemy stand out from these three tried and true methods" I've puzzled over this for dilemma for hours and finally took a longer look at the name I chose to give this path. Sunlight. Light Alchemy. Would it be possible to harness the energy from sunlight beyond the chemical or physical properties of heating things up or causing luminescent reactions" I think I need to find a medium to test a theory, to see if I can capture the essence of each spectrum of light and see really what each wave length may or may not due in alchemy.

My lab is now strewn with many, many failed attempts to harness various light waves for any determinable length of time. I am growing frustrated at how difficult a new path is to forge with none of my magic to bear upon it or support my efforts. So far my findings have been as such:

Pure Water: Spectra of light are seen when passing through it onto other mediums (walls, floors, paper, etc...) None of the spectra stay within the water.

Prisms: Thus far prisms offer the tightest and widest array of spectra but that is no surprise. They are designed for this and again they do not contain each spectra within themselves. Just a simple refraction of light into its wave lengths. Attempts to crush prisms and suspend in water proved foolish. Personal injury and glittery water were the only results.

Crystals: Having tried both mundane crystal (glass with lead added to it), earth made crystals (semi-precious and precious stones) and various forms of Moresh Crystal yield marginal refraction to no refraction of light spectra much less capturing it. Mental note: Replace two tables in Jack's bunker after Moresh Crystal explosions.

Gelatinous Fluids: You really don't want to know about some of these. They've failed as well.

The problems, after reviewing my notes is two fold. Light is all spectra (wavelengths) twined together to provide white light that we can see and shadows/darkness that is a lack or reduction of light we can see. To get the spectra we can see as a rainbow and the other wavelengths our eyes can't see, the samples need a constant supply of light impacting something refractive and quite possibly a tuned filter to obtain a desired spectrum even during long term storage. I will be spending more time with my physics books again.

Hopefully I am not chased out of the libraries for mumbled comments on stupidity by a variety of authors. That reminds me, get on the librarians good side for once and beg for yellow highlighter back. How was I to know that Compendium of Magical Alchemy and Reagents is a rare book? Highlighted words are easier to find.

Solara Radium 03:

After a week of research I've stumbled across the mention of experiments done by a mad chemist named Monty Belaru.

The book, Madness in a Vial: A Biography of Monty Belaru, indicates that the mad chemist had come in contact with a crystalline substance created by mistake. The experiment that caused this creation was a test in making fulminated mercury stable for practical explosive use by suspending it in water laced with lithium under pressure within a glass leaded sphere reinforced with tungsten. Granted this is the genius that brought Safe Water, a way to keep from getting pregnant drinking Rhy'Din water, mass manufactured Flubber and invented the Clap On Night Terror for parents to punish their children with nightmares; the man was bloody mad indeed, but using two volatile agents together was definitely annihilation waiting to happen. Fulminated mercury destabilizes from impact forces and lithium rapidly expands explosively when introduce to water. Reports indicated that Belaru lost his laboratory from the resulting explosion. Curiously he lived, though his mind was never the same. He exhibited rapid mood changes and personality shifts. He died at the age of 45 and when examined by the coroner, Dr. Harold Gus, the body was found to have crystal shards embedded within of an opalescent sheen.

Normally I'd dismiss this as a case of a chemist getting karma for being blatantly stupid. However, in the bibliography at the back of the book was listed the declassified reports of Dr. Harold Gus, now retired and making a profit on what he'd seen in Rhy'Din during his days of crime scene visits. The crystal shards, he claims, were thought to be part of some elaborate jewelry that Belaru was fond of collecting and wearing at all times. The Watch wrote the crystals off as just shrapnel. Dr. Gus had the crystals analyzed and proved it was not opal or any other semi-precious stone. What was intriguing was a small side note: "Light hitting each shard gives off different colors, each shard seeming to be uniquely predisposed to a certain 'rainbow color'. No two shards gave a duplicate color, each being unique." Unfortunately the records indicate the crystals were sold off to a research organization in another realm.

If the crystal samples had remained I could've tried to petition the coroner to buy a sample or two for study. This not being a viable option, I may have to try my own karma and recreate the failed experiment. It will have to be done somewhere remote to ensure safety as well as remote applications to prevent my own life changing as did Belaru's. I think it's time for some good ol' fashioned lab work.

Reproducing the explosion was a success. The experiment took place in a living realm called Lurky. The detonation of the chemicals lead to a 1 mile wide crater that was 500 feet at the deepest. Among the debris and wreckage of the leaded glass sphere and tungsten cage I was able find 30 of these strange crystals.

I have spent over a month studying them and am nowhere near the core of their secrets. They do absorb light and emit it at preset wavelengths. What allows them to use or filter light into a determined wavelength is still yet to be determined. The milky opalescent sheen would lead one to believe that light would not be absorbed or refracted. I have been proven quite wrong.

The element that the crystals are made of do not appear on any charts in known science. They seem to be an amalgamation of Silicon, Lead, Tungsten, Mercury and Hydrogen. 5 elements out of the 6 that were used to construct the vessel and explosives to make them. Traditionally, physics and chemistry does not work in this fashion unless you are trying to smash unstable elements together for fission power.

I am in the process of charging up (exposing) the crystals to sunlight. This process seems to take a full two weeks to accomplish a charge life longer than a few hours.

Solara Radium 05:

Over a year since I've started my path on this insanity to make a new form of Alchemy, and I am close to seeing it coming to fruition. The crystals that I'd managed to reproduce a year ago, from here on I shall call them Belaru Crystals, did indeed absorb a variety of light wave spectrum. More fascinating is that the Belaru Crystals absorbed more than just the visible light spectrum that is seen by the eye by taking on wavelengths from both Infrared and the Ultraviolet range as well. Why I considered this fascinating after checking them shows how sometimes you can get a little too close to your projects and not keep in mind rather simple principles. I am attempting to make Sunlight Alchemy and the Sun produces easily all three ranges of spectrum I've captured.

Without surprise, the Belaru Crystals that have absorbed the spectrum of Infrared and Ultraviolet show no discoloration or change from the milky translucence of the crystals natural state. However various spectrometers, photographic filters and electromagnetic resonators do indicate these crystals carry these charges. Those that were charged with the visible light spectrum all hold graduating degrees of hues and tones as they move from low range reds all the way up the rainbow colors to high range purple. If these crystals are to be a foundation of use in Solara Radium, it will behoove me to find a way to classify or label them in a unified way that students can use consistently.

Since visible inspection of a Belaru Crystal will not tell if it is truly charged or empty as some spectrum are beyond sight, I am a bit undecided between classing by wavelengths which in these spectrum range as long as a millimeter to as short as a nanometer. The other classification is by vibration frequency at which the wavelengths can oscillate when produced that are measured in the range of Gigahertz up to Petahertz. Unless I can find a method to incorporate a sleeve for a Belaru Crystal to be housed in that would give both wavelength and oscillation rating at the same time" Nothing too far fetched to be achieved in the science wing with some time I am sure.

The reactions of each crystal upon various Alchemy processes has not been so precise to study. I must admit a bit of self-defeat as some experiments were called off in the interest of preserving the Belaru Crystals I have as their currently known method of production is rather chaotic and dangerous to allow my small quantity to be easily consumed. What has been noted is the following:

Visible Light spectrum from Belaru Crystals shown upon achlemical potions during distillation phase produce neither addition nor detrimental effects. From this I can only draw some educated guess work for hypothetical testing later that the wavelengths produced by each section of the Visible Spectrum lacks enough vibrational frequency to affect anything it is shown upon during the processing phase. Though I have some hypothesis about finding a way to get Belaru Crystals imbued with the Visible Light spectrum distilled into the process directly to see if it will produce a shaking or molecular memory effect that Homeopathic Dilution produces.

Visible Light spectrum from Belaru Crystals have shown some marked improvement on reagents while they are still in their growing, unharvested state which, in a basic way, means that light in various wave lengths are needed for life. No mystery here, but what this means is a possible way to create easier methods to facilitate indoor cultivation of various rare or delicate reagents often region or realm specific requiring fine tuned light spectrum from their native habitats.

Infrared spectrum from Belaru Crystals has had some marginal effects on the alchemical process, mostly in producing increased reactivity of some reagents while rapidly destroying others in seconds if not careful. More calibration and study is needed with them. Again, a way to distill the spectrum directly into the process may be of more use if a way is possible than relying solely on the impact of the vibration frequency upon combined reagents and containers in use.

Ultraviolet spectrum from Belaru Crystals has shown the most peculiar response. During the initial alchemical process, no effect is seen until the product is completed and allowed to batch or set. Once the product has finished setting, the usual and predictable results are no longer predictable and usual. Mutational effects can be seen within the various products, some towards greater affect, others towards negative, harmful attributes that would cause anyone imbibing them severe harm. More study is needed on it, perhaps filtration and a linear graphing to show where the apex of positive attributes climaxes then falls into rapid negative mutations. Once more, distillation into the process may be more stable.

This leave me several headaches now. The primary headache is how to recreate Belaru Crystals without the big explosion needed and whether or not Belaru Crystals can be synthesized with other materials as well. Next, once I can figure out that issue, can a Belaru Crystal be crushed or liquefied and still retain the light spectrum in it' Can any of this be done in a way to allow a student to study and enjoy a new method of alchemy or have I just created a niche form of Master Alchemy' Sometimes I wonder if there was not a way I could create a specific artifact or device, like some kind of sun tower that can be built by anyone, it could maybe produce the same type of crystal, or perhaps provide a way to distill what I am needing into the process"

Dear gods I need coffee and a long stroll on the beach.
