It was very late, and Aerynn could not sleep. The small leathery wings that grew from his shoulders made sleeping difficult at times. Groaning, the young man arose from his bed, left his chambers, and snuck down the hallway of the Keep and slipped into his mother's study. He figured a thick tome of some long-forgotten magic would put him straight to sleep - but upon his opening the door, Aerynn was confronted with the pulsating, swirling portal that Wyheree had inadvertently opened to Rhydin. He walked forward, mesmerized by the silvery light and the strange noises that came from deep within the portal. Hesitantly, Aerynn reached his hand into the swirling depths, and brushed against something solid. In the blink of an eye, his mother stood before him, the sleeve of her traveling garment in his hand. She looked around, as if unsure where she was, then her heart sunk as she felt the pull of her dress.

"Mom - what?s this" Some new magic?"

Wyheree sighed - this was not how she would have chosen to break this news to her only son. "It is a portal - a Nexus - one that links our realm.....to the realm where I knew your father."

Aerynn's pale eyes opened wide - his mother rarely ever mentioned his father, so naturally he began firing questions at her:

"Have you seen him, Mom - when is he coming - oh I can't wait to finally get to meet my dad!"

Catching Aerynn by the shoulders, Wyheree turned her son to face her, her own pale eyes silvery with tears. "I have been searching for your father, my darling, but I have not yet been able to find him. I have asked others for help, and I will tell you the moment I have news of him."

Aerynn stomped his clawed foot and began raging as only a 13 year old boy can. "I bet - I heard all the noise in there - you aren't looking for him at all - you don't want me to meet my father - why are you keeping my father away from me - it's all YOUR FAULT!!" At this Aerynn ran from the study, his sobs growing faint as he tore off down the hall.

Wyheree's heart was torn - she knew deep down that Aerynn deserved to meet his father, or at the very least know what became of him, but after witnessing one of the Inn's more cunning predators at work on someone who was dear to her, she did not want her only child anywhere near Rhydin. Silvery tears welling in her eyes, Wyheree stepped through the portal and vanished back into Rhydin, her own sobs echoing as she disappeared.
