Bale....The small town full of self proclaimed Dragon Fighters who were caught up in a struggle far greater than they even knew. Nestled at the base of two rivers, and a mountain ruled by a clan of dragons, the small town was quite the place of activity. Home to the infamous Dragon Slayer Inn and it's many self proclaimed heroes and hunters. Home to a recent battle that left half the town demolished, and home to a new effort for revilatization.

It is here where out story begins, actually in truth it began long before the present. But that is a story for another time, or perhaps another story teller. It is here, that Brian Ravenlock once more travels to. This time however, it is not a fight he is looking for, rather information. Information that very well could make a difference in the life of a woman he came to Respect, and her child.

The same town that has beheld many a battle, many a legend, and many a lie. The same town that was nearly razed, during his efforts to assist the townfolk. It is there in Bale that the search for the Bronze Dragon known as "Bolt" began nearly half a year ago..

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Approx. six months time ago...
Sitting in his office, Brian had just settled into looking over some paper work in regards to a new busness venture. In truth it was a pain in the ass, but it opened a new door to him in regards to branching out a bit with his negotiations firm.
A courier walked into the office with a letter in hand, and promtly delivered it to Emeralda who in turn delivered it to Brian. Paperwork pushed aside, as Brian tore the letter open and gave it a quick read.
"Raven,
Rumors of the bronze confirmed, name of Bolt has been dropped. Two witnesses so far, so it's worth a trip to check into. Meet me in the DSI and we'll talk.
Smitty"
It was direct and to the point, and Brian loved that. Moving from the desk, Brian slipped into the meeting room so he could change. Moments later he emerged dressed in his boots, BDUs, his patented long sleeved turtle neck shirt, and his hunter's vest. A smile as a few adjustments were made, and the letter recovered from the desk and was out the door, and soon speaking to Emeralda.
Moments after that, he strapped on his gun belt, and followed with his sword, and the bag of holding. After that a few additional instructions were left with Emeralda. Once everything was set, he reached into the bag of holding and produced his warp cudgel and was soon enroute to the Tele-point just outside of Bale.
Moments later he arrived at the tele-point and regained his bearings. That being finished, he looked north and could see the mountain a mile or out, and at the base that ever familiar town. A moment taken, as Brian looked up and down the dirt road and noted no carts coming or going, it was determined that he hoof it, and that's exactly what he did. Brian could see and hear the reconstruction efforts, as he neared the town. Teams of workers, rebuilding the windmills and and outer wall to the city. Brian could even make out two new watch towers as well, one along the main road into town, and the other along the river side.
The damage from the previous engagement aganst the dragons in which Brian took part of was still just as evident now, as it was months ago when it first began. Scorch marks abound, empty lots where there were storage buildings, parts of the outer wall that still had not been repaired. Brian shook his head as he walked closer to the main gate, fresh in his mind was the chaos that was the previously mentioned engagement, and the fact that they still didn't know who or what pitted these town folk against the Lords of the Mountain. Also fresh in his mind was that elven Dragon Rider be briefly met during the chaos. Brian wondered what ever became of her, as well as the Elder Dragon she accompanied. The gate came and went, as Brian walked on by, oblivious to the buzz of activity in the area.
Other than the damage not much had changed. Bale still looked like a back watered, run down town full of weapons and armour dealers. Even the lay out was nearly the same, save the empty lots and some run down buildings. Brian followed that ever familiar path, and soon came to stand in front of the infamous Dragon Slayer Inn. This was ground zero for the engagement against the dragons, and this was a haven for those who witnessed it all first hand as Brian used a summoned spirit to repel the rain of fire brought on by the great beasts. As others had fought bravely against what they truly believed to be a dire threat to the town, in in truth was one of the largest misunderstandings, Brian had ever witnessed. Brian stood outside the Inn for a bit of time, and just looked around. His thoughts roamed a bit, and came to settle on whatever became of Alucard and Neo, the Dragon Knights and also "Sweet Cheeks" the woman who's name he still never got.
Finally regaining himself a tad, Brian made his way up the stairs and into the Inn. It all looked just as it was those months ago. A buncha rounded tables, that looked to be patch worked at best were scattered about the floor, a lone piano tucked into the far corner. The table that Brian had first met "Sweet Cheeks" was still there, and looked to have been patched together once more, it was vacant and looked to have not been used in a while, as dust was easily visible on it. The group of old drunkards were still in full swing, and carrying on just as they were the first time he had stepped foot inside this charasmatic venue.
"Bout time you got here boy! I didn't think you were interested, the way you drug yer ass! Wha ha ha ha!"
Brian smiled, as he heard the familiar voice of Smitty the Bar Keep and owner of the Inn. Turning a bit, Brian made for the bar and reached over and shook the old man's hand firmly.
"Smitty! You look like hell, and that's pretty good for any of us! Now tell me, ya old lech. Whatcha know about the bronze?"
"Ya always did cut to the chase, boy! Jes' like that first time ya came in here and that crazy bitch decided to cut that table to flirt with yer sorry self! Ha ha!"
The old barkeep laughed and shook his head. He was still looking as he did those months ago. His face weathered and wrinkled, his hair frizzy and grayed, his while shirt smudged all over, and of course his tattered apron, that he refused to give up for any reason. He said it was better to him than his last wife was, and it never cheated on him to boot. The old man moved down the bar and tapped an ale, and set it on the bar top. He then waved Brian over.
Moving on down the bar and taking a lean, Brian reached for the ale. A nod to Smitty and a long draw was taken from the mug. A wipe of his mouth, and a wink to the old man and Brian picked the conversation back up.
"Well, she didn't exactly flirt. Granted she was one helluva fighter. But that isn't why I'm here. So whatcha got?"
"What I got my boy, is this."
Reaching under the bar, the old man pulled out a medium sized box, and opened it up. Reaching inside the box he pulled out it's contents and set them on the bar top between them both. Brian's eyes widened a bit as the mug was set down.
"I'll be damned...Shit, those are nice. Is this from him?"
"Thas what them boys said, and trust me they ain't had no reason to lie. Good boys the both of em. Anyways, they got these down on the south end o' town. About half way up the mountain, on windin' trail. They said there was two of em and the bronze, the one these bad boys came from was called 'Bolt' by the other one. The other actually looked to be a wyvern, so thas what made it stange. A bronze and a wyvern in these parts" I mean come on, after the battle we ain't seen much of anything in regards to them lizards.
"I see whatcha mean.." As he lifted one of the large scales in his hand, and took a closer look.
"They also said the bronze looked to have been wounded, he had a set of nasty cuts, and some looked older then others...I dunno. Anyways, that's what I got. So whatcha got for me, boy?"
Reaching into his bag of holding, Brian pulled out a small pouch and hefted it a moment and set it before the old man. Smitty quickly picked it up and hefted it a bit more in his hand and smiled as the familiar sound of silvers crowns was heard.
"Thas what I'm talkin' about. Thank ya very much."
"Alright old timer, I need to head to the trail and have a look see. You take it easy, I'll be back in a few days."
Brian nodded to the old man, packed the scales and made for the door. It was time for a first hand look around, and then report back to Wyheree and Dakota and see what they would do next.
Present day..
"What is it you always say - there is always one?"
"There is always one, such as them and one such as us. So no worries, business will pick up another time...."Sides, you and I have a date my dear, a few towns away. Do we not?"
"That we do - are we ready to depart?"
"Whenever you wish, we can."
"I am ready to go at any time - so tomorrow morning?"
"Tommorow it is my dear, shall we meet at my Villa?"
"I will phase over at sunrise. The sooner we start, the sooner I will finally have answers."
"I'd like that...Sides, I havent been to Bale since...Well since just after the battle with the Elder Dragons. I hope they dont hold grudges. In any event, we will scale the mountain and see for ourselves." "Do you think he lives still?"
"Well, I saw smitty all that time ago...I mean, we did intend to go back, but with Ren and Lu, then Alex,Charlotte, the Night Blades, handlers and what not. I mean, we all had a lot more than that on our plates to boot. Well, I am sorry we didn't do it sooner. I promise sister-mine, we will find out. And if he does live, it will not be for long."
"It worked out for the best. I am stronger now than I was when we first planning this trip."
"We are stronger...I made a promise all that time ago and I mean to keep it."
The conversation fresh in Brian's mind as he left the Red Dragon Inn, and headed home to the Loft he and Jenai shared above Yotsuba's Cake Shoppe in the Market Place. It has indeed been a while since the first day he had met his sister in name an so much more, and pledged to assist her in her search for the one called 'Bolt' who had wronged her so long ago. It had been a while since he was last seen in Bale, and last spoke with the Inn keep Smitty, and while 6 months time may not be a lot to some, when you packed in what the Ravenlock Family, innermost and extended had been through in that amount of time, it might as well have been a lifetime.
But now things are different, and the seas around the ship Ravenlock have calmed enough to allow Wyheree and Brian to once more take up that promise he made then, and head back to Bale once more time to find out of Bolt had indeed lived, and was in the area. To see what his sister would do, and to stand by her side in whatever would come.
Quietly, Brian made his way up the stairs into the loft, shedding his clothing as he did so. Setting his suit atop their couch, he continued to strip down and then changed into his more suitable outfit of BDUs and boots, topped with his long sleeved turtle necked shirt. A good o'l stretch, as he tried to remain quiet, while blue eyes settled upon his red haired beastie. A loving smile was offered, while he leaned to Jenai and softly kissed her head and whispered a sweet prayer to his beloved. Brian stood once more, and made sure to leave a note for Jenai with directions should she have decided to change her mind.
Brian wasn't expecting this to take more than a couple of days at best, and was sure to have left JenJen with enough provisions to get by, as well as the other sisters in the Sanctuary. Grabbing his duffle bag, Brian once more left the Loft and set out for the Villa where Jade was now staying and recovering from the battle with Alucard, a week or so back. Brian had to get into his office once more and look over some files, and then a trip to the weapons room. The sun would rise soon, and he wanted to be ready to leave as soon as Wyheree arrived.
Wyheree
Date: 2006-11-07 00:46 EST
At sunrise, ice and mist swirled just outside the Villa, and as it all cleared, Wyheree appeared in that familiar spot. This was the first visit she had made to the Villa since she stayed there after fighting with Dakota - what felt like a lifetime ago. So much had happened in the months she had last been here.
Battles - they had both had more than their share. Wyh came to her brother's aid when a charge of his was threatened. Brian leapt to her side when she provoked the VoaS into a raging frenzy. Wyh rode to the rescue when a nasty powerhouse threatened loved ones and he needed backup. Brian called her back from a black rage after the love of her life was threatened.
Love - something Wyh had not hoped to find. In just over two weeks, she would be marrying her pirate Captain, James Black - the man who melted her heart and showed her she could love again. And Brian found his soul with Jenai - and Wyh could see the difference in her brother's spirits.
Family - when Jewell and Wyh met, they bonded nearly as quickly as she had with Brian. When she was asked to take the Ravenlock name - she accepted without hesitation. From the moment she met Brian - they shared a bond deeper than blood. He was a part of her family she never knew before, and now, at last - they were going to discover the fate of the original reason she came here.
Today, she and Brian would travel to Bale, to determine if her son's father lived. If he was dead, then so be it - Wyh had mourned him long ago, and long enough. If he was alive - then he would have a little explaining to do for his treatment of her and his son. She harbored no feelings for the bronze - he broke her heart. James healed it and so much more. This was a mission for closure, and determination was set in her face as she waited for Brian. It was time.
It was indeed time..
Brian felt his sister arrive and smiled warmly, as he slid on a strapped satchel, and hefted his duffle bag a bit. A moment later, he was headed out the front door and offering a loving greeting to his sister, as he set his duffle bag down a moment, along side his sheathed swords that were bundled together, and embraced Wyheree in a warm hug with a kiss to her cheek.
Releasing the 'Ice Queen', Brian produced a small map, and handed it to her. It showed exactly where they were going, and what was around the area. He also made side notes in reference to local points to fall back on, should things go south. No words needed to be said at that moment, as Brian knew Wyheree was on the same page. This had been incredibly long overdue in more ways that one, and it was finally time to do what needed to be done.
Bri then produced a 'warp cudgel', which honestly looked like a small club that was used to beat people with. Mind you that is exactly what they used for back in Vana'diel, but that is for another time. Brian offered a nod to Wyheree, and a wink as he lifted his swords and duffle and waited for her acknowledgment that she was ready to teleport, and get this journey underway.
Wyheree
Wyh smiled at the hug and kiss to her cheek, then her expression hardened as she took the map, silver eyes sweeping over it, committing it to memory. They were indeed on the same page, as they had been from the day they met.
At his nod, and the appearance of the cudgel - a weapon familar to her, she offered a nod of her own, and laid her hand on Brian's arm. Her eyes closed, and she took a deep breath, steeling herself for what they might find. With the opening of her eyes, and the tightening of her fingers on his arm, Brian knew Wyh was ready to go.
