Duci fingered the business cards thoughtfully as she sat at the table. She was waiting on the Spaceport Master to come back with the lease details. It was strange, to feel giddy about something. Now that she had decided she wanted to stay in Rhy'din permanently, she was trying to find a way to set roots.

What better way than to open a business"

Before, her work had been mainly under the table and the direct result of closed-door handshakes. Shady, at best, to be frank. Duci wanted something more reputable, and hopefully that meant more money. That never hurt, right"

He returned several moments later, a sheaf of papers in his hand. "Alright, need ye t' read through dis, initial at all th' clauses on th' provided line, an' sign and date th' bottom. Deposit, first month's rent due now."

The blonde smiled, handing over a pouch of gold. "First years' rent, sir." Hopefully this would put her in his good graces for life or something. Scanning the lease, she flipped through it, initialing as necessary. Reaching the final page, she paused. It briefly felt like she was signing her life away; does that make any sense" Shaking away the foreboding thoughts, she signed her name in a loopy script.

Pushes the lease packet back, she turned to look at the Spaceport Master. "Anything else you'll need?"

Tying the pouch to his belt after looking through it, he picked up the papers and thumbed through them. Looking over the edge of the stack at her, he grunted. "Everything appears to be in order. Any damages to the office will come out of your pocket. We'll talk again in a year to see if you want to continue the lease."

She saluted him lazily, rising to her feet and tugging the hem of her dress down. "You got it boss."

"We'll have your business name lasered onto the front of the door," he told her, holding out a hand with a thick, see-through plastic keycard before she could turn to go. "Might want this."

Duci grinned, the excitement rushing back to her as she delicately took it from him like a prized possession. "Guess I might," the blonde agreed, shaking his hand in exchange. "Thank you," she said wholeheartedly before letting go of his hand and skipping out the door.

Duci struggled to get into her new-to-her office after signing the lease as she fought to swipe the access card with a huge box full of electronics and supplies in her arms. "Grr!" she growled at the door. After a few more mistrials, the key finally made its way home with the unmistakable beeping noise of acceptance. With a murmured whooshing noise, the door slid open to reveal a darkened, mostly empty room vaguely illuminated only by the neon signs outside.

Shuffling in, she elbowed a switch, the lights flickering on after a hesitant moment while the door whirred shut. To be honest, it was a little shabby. Wallpaper, stained in some places, peeled from the corners, while a wide, three-drawer metal filing cabinet and an equally wide, three-shelf bookshelf lined one wall. A dying ficus tree wilted against one of three windows, each lined with uneven blinds and framed by moth eaten drapes. In the center of the room was a round table and a lonely chair. To the right was a desk with a broken chair angled haphazardly to the right as it stood quite literally on its last leg.

The blonde couldn't help but grin nonetheless. It was hers, and that is what made it special.

Dark eyes scanned the room from where she stood, analyzing the possibilities. She would replace the chairs, four to the round table and three for the desk, all leather of course to maximize comfort. The drapes and blinds would be replaced, the wallpaper peeled away and the walls brightened with a fresh coat of paint. Perhaps the Innocuous Potted Ficus could provide her with some leads on restoring the dying fern to life; otherwise that, too, was replaceable. The bookshelf and cabinet tops could be used for a mini coffee bar, and she was sure she could find something to fill both objects with. Hopefully someday they would be filled with important business contracts.

Hey, a girl could dream, right?

Perhaps she could get started on decking the office out this weekend. Probably Sunday, since she planned on heading to the Redemption River Boat Casino the following night. Biting her lip thoughtfully, she moved to the center of the room and dropped the box on the tabletop with a loud thunk.

Removing a flat panel computer, as thin as as piece of glass, and a rubber mat, she headed to the desk to set the mat down then the computer. Touching the screen, it illuminated to life at her fingertips. With an upward pull of her hand, the screen came to life in 3D, currently showing her screensaver of a blue whale swimming through the ocean. Satisfied it was working properly, she swept the screen back down and shut it off with another touch of her fingertips. Back to the box, she removed a a tin can of pencils and pens, a framed photo of Mez, and an LED pink-lighted crystal desk plate with her name on it.

"Home sweet home," she declared triumphantly.

Duci came back Sunday to get some real work done. Which anyone walking by probably would have thought humorous as she was wearing 5 inch heels and a bright pink dress.

Hauling another box of stuff for the office and two cans of primer and paint, she placed everything on the circular table to keep it out of the way. Moving to the desk, she grabbed both side of the end of it and dragged it away from the wall and to the center of the room. The same was done for the filing cabinet, bookshelf, chairs, and the potted fern. Headed for the windows, she ripped off the drapes, tore down the broken blinds and threw them in a heap to be disposed of. Grabbing some plastic tarps and tape, she set to laying them against every edge of the enclosed space to protect the floors. Once all of the wall space was devoid of objects and the important sections of ground were covered, Duci rummaged in the box she brought with her.

"Aha!" she declared triumphantly a moment later, wielding a scoring tool. Holding it up, she headed to the nearest wall to create holes in the wallpaper. The blonde didn't even pause until the office loosely resembled Swiss cheese. Headed back to the table, she exchanged the scoring tool for a bottle of water where she thirstily downed the entire thing in one fell swoop.

Tossing the empty water bottle into the discard heap, she removed a spray bottle from the box next. It was full of a remover-solution and was ti be used to soak the paper. She hummed and twirled as she made her way around the room, spraying water into the slits. While the solution worked its way behind the covering, Duci moved to the computer. Touching her fingertips to it, it hummed to life. She pulled the holographic screen up, swiping through e-mails as she briefly skimmed them. Satisfied she had made a big enough dent in the 15-20 minutes she spent, she looked back to the walls, trying to judge if the wallpaper had become loose enough.

Headed to the wall the bookshelf and filing cabinet were supposed to be against, she grabbed a putty knife en route and pushed a chair over. Climbing onto the chair, she grabbed the peeling corner of wallpaper and slowly ripped down. It fell away like peeling a banana....until it got stuck halfway down. She tugged harder, stepping off the chair and taking a step back. That didn't work, either. Frowning, she tried again. She pulled as hard as she could and kept slowly stepping back, but the wallpaper wouldn't give, instead bouncing her back like a catapult. "ACK!" she squeaked, seconds before being pancacked into the wall.

"Oh, ho..." she grunted at the wallpaper, wagging a finger as she unpeeled herself from the wall. "It's on, now." Armed with her putty knife, she began viciously attacking the wallpaper, scraping it off with every last whine and cry it gave. Boy, it certainly put up a good fight, too.

If she didn't know any better, she would have deduced the wallpaper was alive.

Standing with her hands on her hips, still armed with the putty knife and covered in sticky bits of dying wallpaper, Duci surveyed the violent hurting she put on the office partitions. By violent hurting, she meant how shiny and smooth the bare walls were without the hideous slashes of peeling flower print. Who decorates an office in flower print, anyway!? With her finger tips flicked against the underside of her chin, she told that wallpaper who was boss.

She was lucky, as there weren't any holes in the wall to patch as well. She congratulated herself with a mental pat on the back and turned to rifle through the box she brought the other day. After a few moments of careful digging, she removed a crystal decanter of rich, decadent amber liquid and a solitary matching snifter. This was her real treat for a job well done. And chocolate, obviously, which she also removed from the box a second later.

The Balvenie Rum Cask 17 year; Grignotine Dark (roasted almonds, pistachios, and candied orange peel with dark chocolate): http://ak1.ostkcdn.com/images/products/10460096/P17551741.jpghttp://s3-media4.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/7Px6paZ7-DSDupHqqzJkBA/o.jpg

Pouring two-fingers' worth, she half-sat on the edge of the table and swirled the dark liquid absently while indulging on a grignotine chocolate. "Mm," the blonde purred, lifting the glass for a taste with half-lidded eyes. Only reserving a few moments to pamper herself, she sighed and set the glass down, licking the chocolatey remnants from her fingertips and lips.

Abandoning her happy place, she put on a face mask and grabbed a can of Laser Primer (c) by Koch Holdings. "Hyah!" she hollered, ninja jumping toward the wall and chopping at it with the can. Pressing down on the top, a laser beam assessed the wall briefly before misting primer over the entire section of wall. "Oh, this is so much easier! I'll have to remember to drop a recommendation for them to make wallpaper remover..." Duci declared, quite impressed with the product. She repeated the process for the remaining walls, as well. "I hope the paint works the same!"

She was in luck as the Koch Holdings' Spray 'n' Paint (c) worked much in the same fashion. Easy, peasy, pudding and pie. Except that in addition to being stuck with pieces of wallpaper, she was also splattered with flecks of a warm, yellow shade of paint. "Probably should have considered wearing coveralls," Duci mumbled to herself. However, there was a nice and circular section of her face, right around her nose and mouth, that was free and clear of residual paint thanks to the mask. Perhaps it could be considered a fashion statement?

Blowing a stray blonde curl from her face, she returned to her barely touched scotch and took a heavenly sip. "Ahh." While waiting for the paint to dry, she decided to start cleaning up a little. Carefully emptying the rest of the crystal glass set and other goodies meant for the mini-bar, she dedicated the now empty box to toss the used-up paint and primer canisters. Since it technically was only supposed to take 30 seconds for the paint to dry, she began peeling back the painter's tape and plastic coverings, balling the discards into a giant ball.

"She shoots..." Duci begins, giggling. Aligning herself like a professional basketball player, she does a small hop as she flicks her wrist, popping it into the box. "And she scores! The crowd goes wild!" Insert victory dance.

It was probably a good thing no one was watching.

The office glowed with warmth and comfort when she finalized the last touches.

She had eventually returned with sheer, pale gold drapes. The chairs were a rich, sumptuous mocha brown with dark gold legs and arms. She sanded the table and desk and stained both in the same mocha brown hue before painting elegant gold accents.

Several galactic art pieces from places she had actually traveled to adorned the barren walls before she deemed it acceptable to open for business.

She stepped back to admire her handiwork, hands on her hip and sighing contently. "All done!" she declared before dutifully packing up all of her supplies and vacuuming the floor with her handidandy Suck-u-lux(c). Box of cleaning supplies was tucked into a cabinet before she dusted her hands off on the front of her dress and headed out for the night.

While the purpose was to conduct business transactions, she didn't intend to hangout in it all day. A sign was hung on the glass door that read ?By Appointment Only' beneath her newly engraved business name and data.
