Topic: Introducing... the St. Germain family and friends.

Toby

To bring some order and sense to the chaos of years, here is a listing of our cast, so to speak.

*Work in Progress* - please also be aware that these profiles are written from the PoV of Toby and Tabitha, and sometimes their children. This is how they see the people in their lives, which may not always accurately reflect everything about those people. We can't all be telepaths!

First, the St. Germain family themselves.

Toby St. Germain
Sometimes seen under the SN of RDI Toby when he's working. In his early
40's, though he looks somewhat younger, Toby is a native of Star's End, if such a thing can be imagined. He was born at the spaceport, and grew up on the streets as a member of a rather rough band of runways, castoffs and street orphans. His life has seen him travel away from Star's End for a time, in search of a destiny among the stars - but fate also brought him right back here, and with a family no less. Known for his technical wizardry and his skill on the piano (which occasionally borders on wizardry), Toby is General Manager at Star's End Bar & Grill (after Jeremy Kane's retirement) and occasionally trains bartenders for the Red Dragon.

After the events of the Battle of the Black Forest in Eldicor, Toby was knighted by Queen Teleperien of Eldicor for his services in the battle. For someone who has spent his entire life with a strong anti-authority belief, it was a very meaningful honour.

He is also a psion of considerable power (we'll just leave it at that) - this is not widely known, though it's not a guarded secret. He just doesn't display or talk about it much. ((He is (by his own design) also cloaked - it's highly unlikely to pick up on his nature, though I'm always willing to collaborate. Please, send me a message.))

Tabitha Genevieve St. Germain
Arriving in RhyDin nearly 10 years ago after following a mysterious woodland path she discovered in her hometown of Cleveland, her adaptability was again tested when a Nexus storm swept her and her friend, Simon Perrin, into a desolate, magic-starved world. After helping to heal that far-flung land, Tabitha was returned to RhyDin - teleported right over Toby's lake. The resulting crash twisted her knee, and rekindled long-dormant sparks between her and Toby - one of the first people she met when she first came to the Red Dragon Inn. Those sparks quickly fanned to flames, and they were married on New Year's Day 2008, just over a year after her arrival in RhyDin. A devoted wife and proud mother of four, she spends her days either at home with her family, or at the Southgate Dance Studio in Rhydin City, where she works as a teacher.

In early 2013, Tabitha came down with some undisclosed illness that became progressively more debilitating as time went on. No doctor, healer or mage on Rhydin or at the Core was able to identify exactly what it is, but it sapped her energy almost to the breaking point, and her most recent symptoms included near-continuous coughing fits. Tabitha nearly died as her lungs were filled with fluid, almost causing her to drown - until Toby's intervention that froze her in time, trapped in the last moments of her life. Tabitha remained locked in that moment of time, for nearly a year - until Toby, together with their daughters, found the key to break her free. She's recovered now, the family finally reunited.

Maurin Leigh St. Germain
The firstborn of the St. Germain kids, born in January 2009, Maurin was named for two of Toby's close friends from his childhood, neither of whom were as lucky as he. Maurin has most of her mother's looks and the same unruly mane of dark hair, but she has most definitely inherited her father's eyes and attitude. And from an early age, his most visible gift as well. She's also extremely protective of her littler siblings, especially Selene and little Keith. Like her mother, Maurin has a lot of the 'Mama bear' attitude within her. She's also quite bossy and competitive (particularly with her sister Reinette.) She (along with her sisters) has recently started taking sword lessons with their godfather Xenograg.

Reinette Wyheree St. Germain
Reinette is not your typical middle child. Born in August 2010, Reinette's first name was at first jokingly inspired by the family doctor's observation during a sonogram that she was 'reclining there like a little queen on her throne.' Her middle name, of course, comes from her godmother. Extremely delicate with blonde waves, Reinette has the knack for charming almost anyone she meets with little more than a smile. One might even say she's got a gift for it. There's far more to her than that, though. As mentioned above, she and Maurin are extremely competitive and can get quite intense about it - it's the one thing that can draw Reinette out of her usual 'girly-girl' dainty mindset.

Selene Danae St. Germain
Little redheaded Selene was born in December 2011. Her first year was a most eventful one, as she began to manifest signs of 'fading away' when she slept in her crib. The entire family struggled to find answers to this, and with the help of family friends Xenograg and Selene O'Malley, the truth was revealed and little Selene firmly anchored in the safe arms of her family. Selene is very shy and quiet, the gentlest little soul, and adores animals (perhaps even more than her sisters.) Her older sisters might be always feisty with each other, but they are unequivocally fond of their little sister.

Keith Donald St. Germain
The latest addition to the family, born in January 2015, Keith shares his eldest sister's birthday (as she put it, 'the best birthday present EVER!'). When you consider the events immediately prior to his birth, he is something of a little miracle for the St. Germain clan. Or perhaps there's a little something more to it. He also has a calming nature about him, which was particularly helpful when Wyheree and Roran's own little miracle was born. Even at their earliest ages, the two seem to have an innate connection.

Then, we have the family menagerie, or zoo.

Duke & Duchess
A pair of Black Laborador retrievers, Toby acquired them some years ago, and they have by now reached a happy maturity. Duke is the more rambunctious of the two (once described by Toby as a 'big happy idiot', while Duchess is a more serene and ladylike presence. As as typical of their breed, they are utterly patient with the antics of the kids and other animals...for example, their own pups.

* Hershey II
Named by Maurin and chosen for her very own, as Maurin was very fond of the original Hershey until she passed away.

* Cocoa
Practically inseparable from Hershey, the two sisters live on Maurin's bed.

* Pepper
Reinette's chosen pup, Pepper is scrappy and feisty, a notable contrast to her normally fussy and elegant owner.

* Buddy
Selene's pup, Buddy is most interested in his own tail. And occasionally his siblings' tails.

* Mandy
Keith's pup, although he's too young to know it yet. Mandy likes to snooze near the crib, and curls up at Tabitha's feet when she feeds Keith.

* Grete
Tabitha's pup, she follows her around relentlessly. And has been known to try and sleep on her mistress's head.

Bart & Shadow
Not your average garden-variety kittens, Bart and Shadow were gifts to the family from Helix, Toby's colleague at the Star's End Bar. They're very sweet for cats, and then there's also the matter of the little wings on each kitten's back. They haven't figured out how to fly yet - as they've been unofficially adopted by the dogs, this hasn't really become necessary anyway.

Hershey I
A 'mutt' of indeterminate breed, Hershey was a gift from Lydia Loran in 2007 just before Toby went into his self-imposed exile. After a very long and happy life, Hershey slipped away in early 2014 to chase butterflies in Heaven. A small stone stands in memorial for her, behind the cabin.

And the close friends that make up their extended family:

Wyheree
Wyh has been Toby's best friend for almost a decade, and at times it felt like she was his only friend. Despite all the insanity both have gone through, they remain close and Wyheree is godmother to all four of the St. Germain kids, and recently became a mother herself.

Roran
Son of the A'Taran race and child of a teacher and independent thinker, Roran is first and foremost a scholar. Despite the intimidating appearance of his people (over 2 meters tall, powerfully built with vicious looking claws, and a decidedly wolfish appearance), Roran is a soft-spoken soul with a kindly manner. He is the life-mate of Wyheree, the St. Germain family's oldest friend.

Shannara Kiela
Born February 10, 2016, the child of Wyheree and Roran, Shannara was named in honor of her mother's martial arts teacher. Her middle name, "Kiela" is the A'Taran word for "Little Miracle", which given the circumstances of her conception and birth is quite fitting. Even for the very physical A'Taran race, little Shanni started moving around quite early - a sign of things to come.

Todd Riley
A fellow shipowner and pilot that Toby met during his travels in the Galactic Core region some years back, Todd Riley Renaldi hails from the somewhat prilveged world of St. Vey. Known for its cultural heritage, upscale exports (particularly their renowned teas) and a tradition vaguely reminscient of the Terran Antebellum South, St. Vey hardly seems likely to produce someone as carefree and prone to mischief as Todd. Often seen in the company of a comely blonde named Selene.

Selene O'Malley
Selene became friends with the family back when Toby was first working at Star's End. A dancer like Tabitha, the two women bonded over that shared interest, and she has become a favorite visitor to the three girls. She also has an extremely unique connection to little Selene (who was named after her), and to Tabitha herself.

Xenograg
In the eyes of Toby and Tabitha, a very kind and thoughtful man and the teacher of their dear Wyheree. And he is godfather to all four of the kids.

In the eyes of the three girls, a very funny and beloved man with a wondrous beard, wonderful stories and a willing participant in many of their games whenever he comes to visit. Though for some reason, they insist on drawing him in a horned war helmet (they never seem to decide upon a reason for this.) Occasionally he brings the pretty Miss Amanda with him!

Quite a lot more to him, of course. But to the little girls, what else matters?
