Topic: A Trip to Remember

It wasn?t often these days that Verin was able to get away from the keep, the council, and the duties of his position. But with the last war with the daemons over and done with, he?d managed to pull himself away from his otherwise monotonous lifestyle. And as a result, the grey elf appeared with little sound or flash to announce his arrival, in Kairee?s study. The only true signal heralding his approach was the faint hum of magic coursing through the air.

One hand smoothed down his blazer while the other was busy keeping a package tucked safely under his left arm. Turning, the grey elf let his gaze sweep over the study, noting the dark wood, the fireplace, built in shelving, and so on until his eyes fell on the single desk in the room, and the woman sitting at it. His lips curled into a smile as he crossed the small distance between himself, the desk, and said woman.

The package was shifted as he approached, moved to be offered outward and was set on the desk, but out of the way of any and whatever work she had on it.

?Afternoon, love,? Verin greeted amiably as ever. ?Hope I?m not interrupting.?

Kairee

It was a subtle sensation as Verin passed through her wards, just enough to alert her to expect a visitor. Kairee glanced up from the wood bound tome just in time to see him solidify across the room from her desk.

Leaning back in her chair as her eyes dance over the fine figure of an Elf; a soft smile rests on her lips as he turns and approaches. She, of course, noted the package under his arm. Her gaze dipped to it as he set it casually on the corner of her desk. Her gaze did not linger but instead turned up to him.

?Hello, Sweet. You?re looking rather dapper today.? She complimented him, before she asked in passing, ?Do you have plans for the evening??

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-04 22:29 EST
That smile turned into an oddly amused grin; she hit the nail on the head, in a sense. He shrugged almost noncommittally, motioning idly toward the package he?d set out for her before actually replying.

?Funny that you should mention that,? said Verin, nodding lightly as he spoke. ?I do have plans, actually. But first, why don?t you take a look at your gift? We can discuss those afterword.?

Again, the grey elf motioned toward the package, his hand moving to run through his hair an instant later while he waited.

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-05 01:02 EST
?A gift? For me?? She managed to perfectly execute the surprised and innocent look.

Standing, Kairee pulled the large package over. It was an unadorned silvery finished box. ?Darling!? she smiled with a laugh as she removed the top revealing the lush, white blue fox fur. Running her hand over the fur before pulling the full-length coat free, ?It?s beautiful.? With a twirl she swung the coat about and slipped it on. Kairee chuckled with delight as she noticed that Verin was considerate enough to ensure it was long enough to reach her ankles. So many of her admirers forget to take her six foot one height into account when gifting her with clothing.

Holding the coat closed, she turned for him to let him admire it on her , her fiery red hair vibrant against the white fur, before pressing a kiss to his lips. Softly lingering kiss that made any verbal thanks redundant.

?So, we?re off to the beach?? she teased with that innocent look.

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-05 01:49 EST
Verin studied Kairee?s reaction while she put on that surprised face, opened the gift, and even chuckled at noting how he?d taken note of her height when purchasing the coat. Then of course, the grey elf took the next moment to regard and admire her in it, and the next to linger on and enjoy that offered kiss.

?Oh, my dear, you were incredibly close, but I?m afraid off by just a few hundred thousand miles, better luck next time,? he winked playfully at her then. ?Ever hear of the Great Glacier, Kairee? In Faerun??

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-05 08:55 EST
?Honestly? No. I?m not an expert in Faerun?s geography but I imagine it?s rather north.? Kairee smirked as she sat casually on the corner of desk recently vacated by the coat box. ?What?s your plan? Dinner and dancing on a moonlit glacier??

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-05 12:27 EST
His head shook, a smirk replacing that grin to match her own. Verin's head tilted curiously for a moment, his hand having to lift to again, brush unruly locks of hair from his vision.

"Mmm...not quite," he lifted his hand then, motioning it outward and to the left him him. Lights danced from his fingertips until a small, illusionary globe appeared, floating just off to the side. He turned, stepping closer to this so he could twist it around until landing on the area he was searching for.

"Here," he said, tapping the spot that was marked the Great Glacier on the globe. "Is the Great Glacier. It's located north, above Icewind Dale, near the Sea of Moving Ice. It's home to many arctic dwarves civilazations," he explained further, tapping the globe lightly with his index finger. It zoomed in on the spot he tapped until what appeared to be ruins amidst a mountain of snow, rock, and ice was visible.

"The dwarves recently unearthed some ruins of an older civilization, they believe it to by that of their ancestors, who were less nomadic than they and built grander cities, but they've yet to find proof," Verin turned away then, his attention moving back to Kairee. "I've ordered everyone to stay away from the ruins, as I want to take a look at them myself without any interruptions or accidents happening that would otherwise damage them."

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-05 12:49 EST
Kairee?s emerald colored eyes tracked the lights that flowed from Verin?s fingertips. She moved with him to the three dimensional illusion for a better look as she contemplated his words.

"I've ordered everyone to stay away from the ruins, as I want to take a look at them myself without any interruptions or accidents happening that would otherwise damage them."

?So, we?re to go a-looting.? Her bright smile broke her serious visage as she looked from the image of the ruins to her elfin companion.

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-05 12:58 EST
He chuckled, dispelling the illusion with a dismissive wave of his hand.

"Essentially, yes, we are," he shrugged lightly. "But the ruins, if they are in fact made by older arctic dwarves, will be relatively dangerous, tricky, and ultimately more fun to explore. Their traps in the past have been incredibly clever."

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-05 13:10 EST
?Tell me about it, Sweet. I?ve not done any exploring in your realm. My visits have mostly been contained to our t?te-?-t?tes and helping you with a few battles.? Kairee regulated her ambient temperature rather than remove her new fur coat, ?What sort of beasties can we expect to meet in that frozen land? What sort of traps have you encountered when exploring other ruins in the region? Are your native dwarves magical and if, so, what disciplines do they tend to prefer? Tell me whatever you can so I can decide what to pack.?

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-05 13:44 EST
"Arctic dwarves use even less magic than the average dwarf does," he explained. "In their current society, only a shaman or cleric would have any magical ability. Their traps in other ruins have been mostly mundane things, nothing you wouldn't see in any other ruin, dart traps, pits, etcetera, just cleverly hidden. I doubt we'll fight many things on our way to the ruins, as the arctic dwarves are skilled huntsmen and hunt around that area often, so it will be relatively barren. Though I'm not entirely sure if there will or won't be anything inside the ruins, that's the fun part."

"I'd advise you not to pack too much, whatever you'd need to stay warm and other essentials. I've already packed most of the tools we'll be needing, a few items of scrying and divination, in case anything's hidden from view, etcetera."

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-05 14:24 EST
?It?s not as if I plan to bring a trunk, babes, just a few magical knick-knacks that might come in handy. Give me minute.? Kairee reached up and touched the emerald at her neck. That necklace disappeared with a sparkly shimmer and in its place a large ice blue diamond set in mithral and dangling from a mithral cord appeared. Her fingers lingered a few moments longer on the glittery gem; her eyes closed, subtle Thaumaturgic and Dimensional magics dancing in her aura.

With the opening of her eyes, Kairee smiled to Verin, ?I?m packed. When do you want to leave??

Verin's gaze flicked down to the blue diamond that appeared, hanging from Kairee's neck. He studied it with fleeting curiosity before turning his attention to the woman, rather than what she wore.

"I'm ready, it's all a matter of when's best for you, really."

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-05 20:56 EST
?Make yourself comfortable, Sweet,? she waved her hand to the sofa and easy chair arranged in the room, ?I have few things to arrange.?

Returning to her desk, Kairee set aside the book that had earlier engrossed her; a ribbon set between the pages to mark her place. A quill to hand and parchment before her, she quickly wrote multiple missives. Upon sealing all but three disappeared.

As she sealed the last of her letters, the library?s ornate door opened.

Apparently silently summoned, Hassan entered and bowed his broad shouldered and muscular frame, with hands clasped before him, low toward Kairee, ?My Lady.? He intoned before bowing slightly toward Verin, ?My Lord.? Without further ado, he strode to stand beside Kairee?s desk, large arms crossed over his bare chest, his enchanted scimitar at his hip.

?This is for Brian Ravensheart when he calls.? Kairee handed Hassan the first of the three letters, ?He?ll know what to do with it.? And the the next sealed parchment, ?This is for the Pegasus trainer. Make sure he reads it. And this last one, Deliver it to the Comte de Boef. If he presses, and he will, excuse yourself without word. Should he attempt to have you retained, do what you must?..and don?t hold back. I won?t tolerate mine being harassed.?

Tucking the three letters in the sash about his waist, Hassan bowed low to Kairee again followed by a short bow to Verin before leaving without a word.

?Now, I am ready.? Kairee stood and approached Verin.

Verin Fahliell

"Take your time," Verin merely smiled at her, turning to take a seat on the couch, settling in to wait patiently for her to conduct her business.

"Hassan," his chin dipped lightly in response to to Hassan's greeting, then turned his attention to Kairee, her words, and the letters. He was quiet during the exchange, simply waiting for the word.

And then it came.

"Excellent," he stood immediately as she approached, eagerly closing the bit of distance between them to reach out for her hand. "Shall I send us off then?"

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-05 22:43 EST
Grasping Verin?s offered hand with a laugh, ?You know the Nexial coordinates, Sweet, I think it best if you teleport us.?

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-05 22:59 EST
"Always the smart one, aren't you?" he winked playfully before doing as suggested. In a wisp of magic and warmth, the pair were whisked away from Kairee's study, shifting rapidly through the planes and realms of existence until they finally settled in Faerun.

They appeared amidst a small community of arctic dwarves, a humble town filled with the shorter than average, stout folk who walked around bare foot going about their business. Arctic dwarves were, of course short, but even smaller than their common dwarven brethren, they were also wider. The community, while small, was thriving. Small, dwarven children ran rampantly through the narrow 'streets', playing games and singing songs while many of the older folk went about conducting business or relaxing in leisure.

The weather was just like what one would expect from an area named the Great Glacier. It was very, very cold, ice and snow were the predominant scenery, making most everything white save for the few wooden or painted stone homes set up by the dwarven residents. The buildings only had one or two floors each, typically wide and short. The windows in most were fogged by ice and snow, but glowed from inside with warm firelight.

Upon Kairee and Verin's appearance, one of the stout folk came hurrying out of a small building, plowing through the ice and snow toward them. The dwarf immediately bowed to both Verin and Kairee, bending at the waist until his nose touched the ground, then came back up.

"My Lord Fahliell," he greeted, then turned to do the same to Kairee. "And my Lady Kairee," he stepped back, standing tall (figuratively speaking), with his chin up pridefully while regarding the esteemed pair. "Welcome to Yurjak."

"Hello, Duroril," Verin greeted in return, nodding politely to the mannered dwarf. "I trust the few things I've asked for are prepared?

"Yes, my Lord," Duroril replied with a quick nod. "Everything is as you requested, though our beast tamers had a bit of trouble. But it has all been worked out, I can assure you," he added quickly.

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-06 00:07 EST
Kairee shook her hair back as the cold arctic air assaulted her exposed skin. Her personal wards protecting her from the extreme temperature.

She took a moment to study the village and its inhabitants. Unbidden a child?s song popped into her fore-thought, ??.little teapot short and stout??; her thoughts disrupted by the onslaught of villagers come to pay their emperor deference.

"My Lord Fahliell," he greeted, then turned to do the same to Kairee. "And my Lady Kairee," he stepped back, standing tall (figuratively speaking), with his chin up pridefully while regarding the esteemed pair. "Welcome to Yurjak."

?Babes.? Kairee nodded to the village headman.

She listened to Verin and the headman?s exchange as her gaze danced over the assembled villagers; taking in their surface thoughts and emotive resonance. ?What exactly have you prepared, babes?? she asked turning her gaze to Duroril.

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-07 13:28 EST
"Good, lead the way then, Duroril," Verin bade the man, gesturing down the snowy avenues of Yurjak.

And before Duroril could respond to Kairee's inquiry, Verin cut him off. "That, love, would be our method of transportation. We're unsure of what magic preventing wards may or may not be present on the ruins, thus we cannot fully teleport there until we know for certain. He's prepared a snow sled and a few great polar bears for us."

Duroril nodded quickly. "Yes, they will take you to the recently unearthed ruins quickly enough," then without another word, the chieftain turned and barreled off through the snow with Verin soon following. "Come, love," hand still in hers, the grey elf guided her on.

As for the surface thoughts and emotions, the dwarves were still tentative in regards to their new and self-proclaimed emperor, but not necessarily hostile, as if they'd yet to decide what they thought of him.

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-07 15:13 EST
?Always thinking ahead.? She smiled, ?That?s what I like about you.?

Allowing Verin to lead her on very much as a courteous gallant would, Kairee stepped gently along the dwarf-plowed wake of Duroil?s. Her ever stylish high heels miraculously unmarred by the snow which does not seem to cling to them or chill her feet. Her step so light, nary an impression remains of her passing.

Catching the gaze of some of the villagers as they passes, she nodded and smiled, exuding a warm and friendly nature.

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-08 13:43 EST
The dwarves were all genial toward Verin and Kairee as they passed, offering friendly smiles, waves, bows of respect, and all around friendly greetings that seemed to be sincere for the most part. The arctic dwarves were a fairly friendly lot, especially to outsiders.

"Love," said Verin while they were led on by Duroril. "I was thinking..." his eyes swept over her. "As fantastic and lovely as you look in your dresses, I don't think going about in some old dwarven ruins in one is the best idea."

Duroril glanced over his shoulder at that, chuckling heartily. "Aye, the old kingdoms had some vicious trap makers, is nae so great an idea t'be wearin' what either o'ye are now when explorin' the ruins."

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-08 14:37 EST
?You don?t think so?? Kairee blinked at Verin ?It?s a good thing I bought a few changes of clothes along.? A smile teased along her lips as she considered the dwarf, ?What do you recommend, Duroril-babes? Something warm yet rugged?? as they walked a golden shimmer sparkled around Kairee; her fur coat fell open revealing that she was now clad in a fitted minotaur hide jerkin and leggings. Her shoes were now lizard-man leather boots. ?Something like this?? There was a teasing gleam in her eyes as she looked to Verin.

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-08 14:46 EST
"Sure, if you're going for practical," he nodded lightly, chuckling while Duroril blinked and then led them around the corner, slowing as they neared a dome shaped building. "I'm just looking for comfort myself," the grey-elf shrugged then, a veil of grey falling over him to dissipate in the cold air, leaving Verin in a white tunic, some loose breaches, and doe-skin shoes.

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-08 15:12 EST
?Tsk.? She tsked him, ?Practical doesn?t mean it?s not stylish.? A toss of her long fiery red hair over a perfect shoulder, ?Just take a look at this fastenings and fittings. All handmade. You won?t find anything remotely like that on merely practical clothing.? She glanced over at his changing clothes, reading his magic and the clothing, once fully set, to gauge any enchantments. ?Besides, practical has its uses. Minotaur hide can?t be cut by any weapon. This outfit had to be cut and sown with shears and needles carved from Minotaur horn, which is the only thing that will pierce its hide?.and also rare enough that it?s very unlikely I?ll encounter any Minotaur horn forged weapons.? She leaned to Verin and spoke more softly so as not to be overheard by their dwarven companion, ?If for some reason your wards fail, you have no protection at all. A little practicality could be useful in a pinch.?

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-09 08:01 EST
"If my wards should fail me, any attackers would find themselves against a fully armored swordsman as well though," he winked, slowing as he noted Duroril doing the same. "Don't think I rely solely on magic to defend myself, love. You know better."

Duroril turned to them, knocking against the doorframe of the dome shaped building with his gnarled hand. "Here we are, yer sleigh's inside o'this 'ere buildin', just walk on through'n go to the back, they'll be settin' the two o'ye up."

"Thank you, Duroril," Verin replied, nodding politely to the helpful dwaf.

"It's been m'pleasure, Lord Verin'n Lady Kairee," the dwarf bowed low to the two of them, then turned and plowed on through the snow to attend to his other duties.

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-09 10:23 EST
"...You know better."

?So I do.? She smiled and pressed a quick kiss to his cheek with a light chuckle.

Any levity in her mood was slight disrupted by Duroril?s departure or more properly at the timing of his departure. ?How peculiar? she commented watching him plow through the snow, ?You?d think he?d want to introduce us to the animal handles and ensure that all is as it should be for his erstwhile emperor.?

Though her Danger Sense? has not triggered on a threat directed at her; Kairee?s mind reached out to skim through Duroril?s, seeking a germ of treachery before turning her attention to whatever is in the building before entering as they were bidden by the Dwarf who is busy distancing himself.

Barely a breath would have passed before she would have found and read the minds beyond the door; such is the speed of thought.

If all seemed as it ought and nary a hostile thought or murderous intent found, Kairee would take a moment to pause and open her senses to a precognitive flash.

Paranoia, in proper measure, is a most under-appreciated tool in one?s survival kit. If the paranoia is unfounded, the worst that can be said is that you over prepared for an eventuality but should it prove out that there was good reason to be paranoid, well then, you tend to live longer.

Kairee has an objection to dying. She's silly that way.

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-11 14:10 EST
"Hmm?" he glanced off after Duroril, then shrugged and turned forward to step inside, holding the door for her. "He's a busy man, fall is approaching which means winter is on the way, many preparations to be made."

Inside the building were just a few workers, most of them near the back where a large door waited, with a sleigh and the set of polar bears waiting for them. Gesturing for Kairee to follow, Verin headed down the warmly lit wooden hall.

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-12 12:15 EST
?They have more than one season?? she asked with surprise, ?Are they all just as gelid as their ?summer? season?? She smirked entering the hall and strolling with Verin toward the waiting sled.

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-12 22:56 EST
"The seasons don't really vary, but naturally during winter, it's much, much colder," he smirked over at her, tilting his head once they reached the sleigh. His eyes turned from her, to the sleigh.

A dwarf poked his head up from the sleigh, squinting at the pair for a moment before hopping off and ambling over.

"Lord Verin'n Lady Kairee," the dwarf said gruffly, with a curt bow of his head. "Barim Nurack, at yer service."

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-13 13:48 EST
?Hey Babes.? Kairee greeting the dwarf with her standard greeting accompanied by a dazzling smile, ?Are you who we have to thank for this fine sled and provisions??

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-16 21:53 EST
"Aye," the dwarf replied gruffly, to which Verin smirked. "Give it a few minutes, team's finishin' up with the bears."

"Barim is the master beast tamer here in Yurjak," Verin remarked offhandedly. Barim grunted in response and merely turned to amble on over to the sled to finish his work, grumbling about this and that.

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-20 10:38 EST
?How exciting for him.? Kairee drolly commented as she watched Barim waddle back to the beasts. Turning her attention to Verin, ?Sweetheart, will it be much longer? When you said you were ready to go, I envisioned we would go.? She added a subtle emphasis to the last ?go.? Before he could answer, she continued with a slightly raised hand to ward off his reply, ?And before you suggest I am in want of patience, let me assure you that I have all the patience I need.?

She could not suppress a good natured smirk

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-21 16:01 EST
"Once Barim is finished, we'll be heading out, love," Verin assured her as he turned to watch the dwarf in question's progress. "How much is that, I wonder?" he mused idly, lips twitching into a faint grin as he glanced over at her, then turned back to the dwarf as another loud grunted sounded from his direction.

"Alright," said Barim. "It's all set, have at it," he offered the pair a curt bow, then turned and waddled out of the room, a small team of dwarves following suit to leave Verin and Kairee to their own devices. There was a large wooden archway that had a sliding door covering it, likely the expected method of exit.

"See? What did I say?" his grin tugged wider, then Verin turned and walked toward the sleigh, stopping to motion her in first. "Come along, I know how very patient you've been the whole time."

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-21 22:17 EST
"How much is that, I wonder?" he mused idly, lips twitching into a faint grin as he glanced over at her, then turned back to the dwarf as another loud grunted sounded from his direction.

?Do you really want to find out??she challenged with a purr in her voice and a nip to his earlobe.

The dwarf?s grunted interruption called her away from tormenting Verin in her special way. With a resigned sigh Kairee strolls toward the sled.

"Come along, I know how very patient you've been the whole time."

?Patient enough to be showered with gifts.? she smirked as she passed. Pausing at the sled, she gave it a critical once over, ?What exactly are we to do with this contraption??

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-23 22:13 EST
"Mmm...perhaps when we return," Verin replied with a playful wink, turning just as he heard Barim grunt and retreat. "Well look at that. See? That wasn't too long of a wait."

Chuckling, the elven lord walked toward the sled and stepped into it, turning to offer a hand to aid her in doing the same. "It's a sled, dear. You ride in it," he thumbed toward the polar bears. "They'll pull us. Haven't you ridden in one before?" his brows arched upward curiously.

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-24 09:27 EST
Hand in Verin?s, Kairee allowed him to gallantly assist her into the sleigh, ?Just how often do you think I find myself in the arctic tundra with nothing but a bear hauled sleigh for transportation?? she queried. Settling down on the seat, she explained her earlier question, ?What I meant, Dearheart, was to question its capabilities and how we can use it. Does it slide super-fast? Does it fly? Or is it merely dragged by bears?? Kairee helped Verin tuck in the furs he pulled up on their laps, ?And once we arrive, what then? Are they ?Homing Bears? that will drag the sled back here? Do we cut the bears free until we are ready to return at which time you call them back? Does the entire ?? she swirled her hand to indicate the whole kit and caboodle, ??assembly shrink in size to be transported handily in your pocket until we need it again??

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-24 10:15 EST
He turned and sat down beside her once they'd everything in order, taking a hold of the reins. "They're bears, love. Strong, fast, and durable. There is no magic about them, or the sled. They'll wait outside the ruins, they'll drag us normally, but it's a lot faster than walking and safer than magic at the moment."

He looked over to the large archway in the wall, the one that was undoubtedly their exit. A finger twitched, and kinetic energies were stirred up to explore the cracks, the gears and lines, and made the large set of doors open wide to reveal the rather monotonous scene of ice and snow on the other side.

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-24 11:53 EST
?How quaintly rustic.? Kairee snuggled close to Verin, ?and a delightfully romantic way to go ?a-looting.?

Gazing out at the vast vista of ice and snow, she was caught for a moment at its pristine beauty, the sense of endlessness and the noted lack of landmarks.

?You do know where you?re going, right?? She suppressed the teasing lilt in her voice but couldn't quite eliminate the gleam in her eye.

Chuckling at Verin?s arched brow at her doubting, Kairee waved him on, ?Then ?mush? boy, ?Mush!?

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-24 22:28 EST
With a simplistic grin, Verin's arm was draped around her, taking the reigns up once again after they'd been situated. He shook his head, chuckling quietly at her 'command' and gave the reigns a light flick with one of his wrists. The polar bears started off at a crawl, grunting quietly until the sleigh was pulled entirely from the small dome of a building.

A second flick of his wrist had them running off at a decent speed, the town falling away behind them to a sea of snow and ice. Pure white surrounded them, for as far as the eye could see. There were no distinguishable landmarks to inform them of where they were heading.

"I know perfectly well where we're going, as do the bears."

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-27 15:01 EST
?Ah! Since you and the bears are so perfectly knowledgeable, there?s nothing for me to do but sit back and enjoy the ride.? Kairee shrugged slightly, her eyes watching the blinding white terrain as they sped along. Shards and sparks of snow and ice kicked up as the sleigh sliced through; the pounding run of the polar bears adding a baseline to the cutting sound of the sled?s blades through the landscape.

?You continue to surprise me, Verin.? She idly mused, ?I?ve never known you to be on such intimate terms with bears, of any type. It makes me wonder what other sorts of creatures and people you socialize with when I?m not around.? Light conversation to pass the time.

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-09-28 16:22 EST
Verin didn't bother to point out his heritage, the fact that he was well versed in many languages and magics, or the fact that he had spoken to the dwarves ahead of time about arrangements. He merely shrugged, glancing over at Kairee with a teasing grin while the bears pounded through the snow and ice, bringing them slicing along in their wake.

"Yes. I'm full of all sorts of surprises, aren't I?" he grinned, lifting a hand to waggle his fingers. "Never know what I have up my sleeve."

Kairee

Date: 2009-09-29 22:42 EST
?Oh, that?s right!? Kairee smiled, ?I knew there was a reason I let you hang around. You are very amusing.?

?Amusing? isn?t the right word but it is the word she chose to use. He?ll understand. The fact that he does seem to apprehend and appreciate her nature makes him unlike so many others. That uniqueness endears him to her. It?s one of the reasons she likes him. It also helps that he?s smart, magically adept, clever and cute.

Verin Fahliell

Date: 2009-10-01 19:07 EST
"Knew?" He asked indignantly. "You mean you forgot?" Feigned shock and hurt ensued. His lips tugged into a subtle and false, but well acted out frown as he turned to study her incredulously.

"And here I thought you knew everything."

Kairee

Date: 2009-10-01 19:22 EST
?That only proves that you are not infallible.? Kairee playfully taps his frowning lips once as if to make a point , ?A lesson you should take to heart.?

Verin Fahliell

Kairee?s witty retort was stolen by a particularly frigid gust of arctic wind. Her eyes followed Verin?s gaze as his attention shifted.

The nearly two hour trip had passed quickly and pleasantly but with appearance of the ruins in the distance; Kairee set aside her playfulness. It was time to get serious.

Snow started falling; blown with increasing vehemence across the icy landscape. The closer they got to the ruins, the more violent the storm became. Not that it had any impact on Kairee or Verin other than obscuring the physical view of the ruins but Kairee had already shifted her vision to the metaphysical.

The storm, natural and easily dismissed.

The ruins, however, shimmered very subtly and in such a way that it might be missed. The aura was suppressed but not perfectly.

Kairee could not yet read it but still she smiled in anticipation of the adventure yet to come.
