OOC: Nowlesh appeared on the scene around the same time Gondar did. Like Gondar, he was a mage of considerable power but unlike Gondar, he had no success with Kairee.

In this thread I will post what I find relating to the relations with Nowlesh. If I find enough that makes a story, I will post a new thread for that tale.

Kairee

They appear standing some feet back from a cliff edge.

A wind with a biting chill shocks them in greeting. Gondar's tattered cloak flutters back; his long black hair entwined with Kairee's red both carried by the wind.

The area as far as the eye can see is rocky and lichen covered, and uninhabited. the sky is dark blue and grays and in the distance storm clouds darker then the rest roil with unrestrained power. The scent of electricity is in the air, the feel of a storm coming is strong.

Gondar can feel the heat of Kairee next to him, her arm still linked with his.

Leaning to him she whispers in his ear, "I love a good storm, don't you?"

After a moment she slips her hand into his and begins to lead him away, "Come on."

About 30 feet back from the cliff edge is a small house, a hut more like, sturdy built with timbers and a High A Frame roof so snow will slide right off it.

It is cold within, until Kairee address the problem. Candles light and fire begins to burn in the fire place as she closes the door behind them and bolts it tight. The temperature is suddenly comfortable and Gondar finds no need for his cloak.

The interior is rustic, but comfortable. There are pelts of animals acting as rugs about the floor; the furniture is wooden though cushion with feather-filled pillows. Off to the right of the fireplace is a table and benches and what would pass for a kitchen. Before the fireplace is a sofa of sorts flanked by two small tables. Traditionally there is a large black furred animal skin on the floor before the Fireplace.

To the left there is a bed built into the wall, like a closet, and separated by a heavy tapestry curtain...the bed is large enough for two.

There are other various furnishings but not much, it is a small place.

"Something to drink?" Kairee asks, "Water or hot tea?"

Once that is settled, Kairee asks Gondar to sit with her on the sofa, "Tell me," she asks, "What was all that between you and Skarl?"

Obligingly reclining on the sofa next to Kairee, Gondar glances sidelong at her at the question. Without hesitation, he states: "I don't know who Skarl is, or what the hell he was talking about. He is obviously an idiotic fool with delusions of grandeur. If he persists in pressing this non-existent issue, then perhaps I shall have to quiet him down in some...unpleasant way."

"Oh." Kairee shrugs, "I've seen him from time to time in the Inn. I think he was very attentive once....he'd probably been more memorable if he hadn't been." Kairee sips from her hot tea, "I was distracted when you asked me about Falon, but yes, he is the one who has been touted to me as the puppy that will topple you from your high perch. It will be unfortunate when you have to humble him, he's kind of cute..." her eyes twinkle with amusement, "Don't mark him too badly, just maybe a scar or two to give him character."

Gondar smirks in response. "I'll try not to hurt him too badly, then."

He pauses, and then (almost unexpectedly) continues. "Considering the variety of people who are drawn into the Inn, I'm surprised a better swordsman has not yet come. I seem to remember a time, a place where I was quite a ways from being considered the best..." He trails off, staring forward into space.

"Tell me of that time and place." Kairee asks softly, her hand gently on his thigh, "I've only known you as the best."

Gondar chuckles at the inquiry, but consents to answer it anyway. "Oh, it was long ago...on the world on which I was born, in fact. It was a man I once traveled with, Marcus d'Pandelion. He was a mere human, but the most phenomenal fighter I had ever seen. He was a foreigner, and used two swords in battle, a style which seemed radically bizarre to me at the time. From him, I learned to use either hand" He holds up his hands to illustrate the point. "but never quite got around to using both at once. Too bad, really, but his destiny was down a different path from mine. Strange, I haven't thought of Marcus in a long time. I wonder if he's still alive, after all this time..."

Gondar glances over at Kairee. "But that's enough...I don't want to bore you with tales long since past."

Kairee laughs gently, "I'm not bored. And wouldn't mind listening to whatever tale you felt like telling." she smiles, not pushing the topic, "Now, what's this about 'Mere Human'? I'm Human...." she states teasingly, "....more human than anything else and I am far from being 'Mere' anything."

Gondar looks startled for a brief moment, but it passes. "Oh. I meant simply that he was an ordinary man; not demon-spawned or Faerie-kin, or anything of the sort usually associated with the near-supernatural skill he possessed... It's almost odd; I haven't been back to my old home in quite a while..."

"Maybe not so odd after all." Kairee comments and considers for a moment, "I can think of only two things that should bring the past to Forward Mind. Something you have seen, smelt, heard, done or someone you met recently reminds you of something from your past or for some reason someone or something is trying, purposely or not, to reach you, on the psychic level.

"Perhaps it is time that you returned there for a brief visit...." Kairee stops abruptly and looks at Gondar, slightly embarrassed, "Was I analyzing again?"

Gondar chuckles. "Let me put it this way: sometimes I feel like I've got a personal psychiatrist." He thinks for a moment. "But no...that is not a place I have fond memories of, and revisiting it per se is not actually something I would do without considerable thought.

Kairee looks actually embarrassed now, "It's the price of that Talent..." she explains with a shrug.

"Memories are fine to have, but some should remain just that -- memories."

She sighs and nods in understanding when Gondar speaks of memories.....many of her own are not happy ones.

Only the thundering sound of the storm bursting as it nears can be heard with the crackle of the fire as they sit in silence for a moment or two.

Kairee turns to Gondar again, determined not to dwell on thoughts of memories best not remembered, "What have you been up to, love? Anything new and interesting?"

"No, no...your turn now." Gondar grins. "How has the Nowlesh saga been unfolding recently? He still think he's got a chance at you?"

Kairee gives Gondar a sideling glance and sighs with a laugh. "Nowlesh is very persistent. He tells me some very nice things. Besides his professions of love, he talks about what an unstoppable pair we would be with our combined power. That we would be able to take whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted it. I told him that I already do that.

"He says he knows what I need and want and that he is the ONLY man that can provide it." She sighs again, "He's not as bad at the wooing game as he thinks."

Gondar snorts derisively.

"Sounds just like another one of those lap dogs that are constantly begging to kiss your feet. I would've thought he'd at least come up with an original approach. "But, then again, we ARE talking about Nowlesh here..."

"Oh! but he has! nowlesh has offered me to a chance to wander through his mind as long as I agree to open mine up to him...to prove to me his intentions. And he's not really like a lapdog anyway....I don't have lap dogs anymore."

Gondar considers and replies after a moment's thought, "Even so, he doesn't understand that you don't NEED him. He's operating under some assumption that he will have to TAKE CARE of you, or some such." After a moment: "Well, have you decided for or against the mind-romp?"

"Nowlesh operates under a number of mis-assupumtions." Kairee seems slightly angry about something, "And No. I've decide NOT to do the mind thing. I don't trust him." toss of her long red hair, "I get a very bad feeling about Nowelsh."

"It is well that you don't trust him. I haven't found anything about him yet that shows that I should trust him. Giving him free access to your mind, therefore, shouldn't be high on your list of priorities." Gondar pauses for a breif moment, then presses forward relentlessly. "So, what HAVE you decided to do about him?"

Kairee sighs, staring into the fire, "At first I was going to see how far I could push him or how long I could lead him around...but there is just something 'wrong' about it." she shrugs, "I told him no. "Why? Does it matter?"

"Matter? Oh, not especially, I suppose... But how did he react when you refused him?"

She looks at Gondar, hurt almost and then looks away, "I don't know...I didn't stick around to see"

Gondar, if anything, seems surprised at her reaction, "You...never SERIOUSLY considered his proposal...did you?"

Kairee looks back to Gondar, "How could you even think that?" there is still something that lingers in her eyes,,she turns away, "How could you think that when I am here with you and not with him? When it is for you that I keep my Saturday. nights free, though I have had plenty of offers." she curses quietly to herself, ?But it doesn't matter much, does it?"

"Now, hold on a minute here. Who were we talking about a minute ago? Nowlesh...or you? All I've got to say is that there was definitely some sort of misunderstanding somewhere, and I refuse to start defending a position I probably don't believe in anyway."The only thing that I'm sorry about is insinuating that you might take Nowlesh seriously, but I was momentarily confused by the sudden turnabout of the conversation, and I was looking for some explanation.

"Now, do you want to explain what's wrong here?"

Kairee looks at Gondar somewhat confused, then the sudden realization that she may have misinterpreted something that Gondar said.

Looking Gondar directly in the eyes, Kairee begins, "When I told you what I decided to do about Nowlesh, I asked if my decision mattered to you, and you said it didn't." Kairee explains slowly as if she is tracing back her own thought pattern, looking for the error, "To me that meant that it would be the same to you whether I chose to be with Nowlesh or not." She pauses for a second and takes a breath and quietly asks, "Did I misunderstand?"

"Ah..." Gondar thinks for a second. "You said, specifically, 'Why? Does it matter?' which *I* took to be as a question referring to your decision not to see how far you could push Nowlesh, and my response was that it didn't especially matter to me how much you led him on." He frowns. "Looks like we both made a mistake."

Kairee laughs in a mixture of relief and cynicism. "I have been so jumpy lately." she confides to Gondar, "I don't know if it is because of Nowlesh or something else. It's going to sound so odd but I feel like someone's been watching me. The annoying thing about it it that I can't isolate the source. Whenever I scan, there's nothing out there. But yet I *KNOW* there was.

"Normally, what the laymen call my "Danger Sense" would be ringing off the hook if any hostility was directed at me. But I have sensed nothing more than the normal jealousy form the RDI Bimbos.

"Yet, I have a sense of impending sense of Doom." Kairee leans back in the sofa and exhales deeply, "I have been having a re-occurring nightmare...and I'm not sure if it's a premonition.

"All I see and feel is that I am sore wounded and dying. I am alone...It is then that I wake." Kairee sips at her tea again, she is physically tense, "The dream does not allow me to see my surroundings....there are no clues as to time and place. I have tried to determine if it is a glimpse of events to come but I am too closely involved to be able to get a clear reading of my own future." Kairee sits quietly for a moment, "I am at a loss of what to do. I, of course, will be extra alert. Hmmmm." she considers something for a minute, turning to Gondar "If I knew what I might be facing or when, I would probably ask for some more definite aid, but ..." she shrugs.

Kairee sighs, "At least here and now I don't feel a threat."

(Once again, the rest of the log is lost. What?s interesting about this post it that Kairee?s dream is a premonition but at the time, I didn?t know it. When the demons do get a hold of Kai, her premonition proves out)
