Compiled during the Year of Atonementfor His Imperial Majesty, Nicholas I of Akavashi by His humble servant, Rellor, Magi and Scholar

The first time I encountered a punt beast was during one of my meditation periods in the Darklands. They have four stubby legs,a snout for a nose, and a spiked tail. The smell was somewhat umbearable but I stood my ground. After about an hour of battle the beast would prove unsuccessful. After I slayed it,the wails of other punt beasts sounded in the distance. In fact is the wail of the punt beast that caused my hearing to be damaged. Somehow the beasts knew that one of their own was dead. I wasted no time in loading the beast onto my chariot and leaving
before it's relatives showed up. At my home in Clatterbridge I studied the remains of the beast for two weeks.

Punt beasts are indeed magical. If one feels you are invading it's territory they will strike. I have been "punted" a number of eight times. The beast uses "punting" as a last resort. "Punting" is a result of the beast instinctively using it's magical powers in a defensive mechanism. The magic has but one effect: teleportation. Usually one is teleported to a location outside of RhyDin. Some find their way back quickly..others are not so lucky and may be left to wander effortlessly until they find a portal of some sort to take them back home.

The horns of a punt beast are in my opinion priceless. I say "my opinion" because one man's treasure is another man's trash. I say they are priceless for three reasons. 1) the horns are practically a must for all students of the mystical arts; when ground up the horns make num dust, a mystical powder useful for healing; 2) Punt beast horns are powerful aphrodisiacs; whether the horns are worn, for example as a medallion, or the horns scent (they have a very enticing aroma) is amplified in some way, it is a proven fact that they induce sexual attraction and the like; 3)The horns are good weapons; in the center of them is a substance known as shoft. It is a jellylike substance that, when not handled carefully is highly explosive. There is still much to learn about shoft.

Five years ago on the ninth day of Leh, the great Punt beast stampede of Crystalmyr occurred. It is believed that a drunken shephard caused the stampede that took over a 120 lives. Some 800,000 punt beasts ran amuck starting in the south eastern part of Crystalmyr, traveling through Brittony, Mystra, then cutting upward toward the Stormlands and finally ending up in the Darklands.

The Darklands remains the most heavily punt beast populated area in RhyDin. As far as nourishment goes punt beasts are quite tasty in my opinion. Roasted PB meat became a favorite of mine during my stay in the Darklands. Every part of the beast is edible save the feet and the horns. There are many ways to prepare them, but, as I am no chef I will not bore you with recipes.

At any rate, punt beasts are dangerous animals and should not be taken lightly. Be careful one and all. I bid you good day.

Respectfully,

*Extreme caution should be used when extracting the shoft from the horns to make the num dust.
