Melanie's curios nature, that and the all pervasive sense of loneliness, led her towards what a flyer had promised was sure to provide an interesting pet. Quite confused and rather hesitant, she wandered through the auction, a silent specter among the chipper, cheery crowd. Dressed for the weather, she absently wondered if being outside would do some good. Maybe that'd be enough"

She did not speak a word, though she nodded to those she knew, she waved at those who wanted pictures of the enigmatic fighter in public and she dissuaded questions with subtle shakes of her head and cryptic smiles. An autograph here, a phone number there. She'd given it all hundreds of times before.

She didn't even like water, nor did she really like fish. Given that, why was she even here" A built in pond on the roof of her palatial sky scraper of a home, business headquarters and operational nerve center had always seemed quite empty and never used properly. Given that, she made her way towards the auction itself with some trepidation. To the Fire Brigade? Some of these fish were cute, some were exotic enough to match her alien beauty. She'd also burned down various city blocks from time to time. Though she lacked compassion, logic told her that this wasn't the worst way to spend a portion of her staggering income. Fish passes, pretty creatures all, but nothing caught her fleeting attention. And then....

And then she saw them. White and black, another black and purple. Red and white, black and red. In quick order, Melanie bid for each of the aforementioned color matching. Quite pleased with the result, she folded both hands into her lap and decided to watch and see the other fish, though in her often immature, often sagacious heart, she knew that she wanted nothing else.

"Water quality is very important to your fish."

The pamphlet she read from while trailing the group of those getting a tour seemed to captivate her attention long enough that she missed a few of the more interesting sideshows. Her pace was as lazy as her eyes seemed to be, wild colors of treasured emerald and fools gold caught prisoner between thick lashes. She read aloud, to herself, excusing any slight nudge of elbows or scuffed toes to the rest that wandered.

"Poor water conditions stress fish. A stressed fish is a sad fish. One of the most important factors to the quality of your fish is making sure no toxins are contaminating the water."

She looked up. The rest of those who took the tour had gone further than she had, leaving the siren to roam around a specific pond that didn't seem to have much to it. Her own reflection swam in the ripples from the surface but to her, it seemed empty.

"A stressed fish is a sad fish." She murmured.

Small blip of color drifted within the confines of the pond. Startling white, almost opal, with a pinkish set of eyes. Barely bigger than six inches. Dwarfed in comparison to the larger one's they had passed by. It wiggled more, stirred up into a little circular pattern of swimming; she had the audacity to think it was showing off for it's only audience.

"Don't worry, yea'? I have all these pamphlets." Plastic bag that had been filled to the brim, engorged with water, was held up to spy at the mini-creature.

Terry had been there for the first, missed the second, and the third almost passed her by; or would have if it wasn't for her catching sight of a flier. Her last koi fish had been busy frolicking in a hotel pond owned by a former girlfriend. She wanted something a little more close to home though, so the idea of purchasing a new fish felt right.

She hadn't expected to spend as much money in one of the auctions for a koi with gold colored scales, but in the end she had dropped a high triple digits to make sure she'd be the one the fish went home with. She told herself that the money would go to a good cause....so that made her feel a little better.

Although the fifteenth was a few days late for Old Man Granger's birthday, Liv had held out against buying Humphrey a birthday present for his eighty-fifth as soon as she'd seen the fliers go up for the Koi auction. The gardens were his pride and joy, and despite the fact that he still intimidated his grand-nephew's P.A. somewhat, she'd wanted to get him something special for his birthday, to thank him for allowing her and her ever-increasing family to make their home on the Grove. That, and the proceeds were going to the Fire Brigade, and she couldn't have kept Johnny away with a handful of water bombs.

So it was that the entire Storm family had trundled out to the auction - Johnny; Liv; Fliss; Alexei; Maria; the dog, Bella; and even Fliss' boyfriend, Lucas - to investigate what was on offer. Little hands had been pulled out of the water; Johnny had been told to keep his hands firmly in his pockets when they weren't corralling children. It was an interesting day, and by the end of the auction, they'd managed to snag two beautiful koi fish in mottled shades of gold and black on white for Old Man Granger's pond.

But it did look like they might be in the market for a little aquarium of their own, if Alexei didn't shut up about pretty fish soon.

"Holy carp, those fish are big!"

Yasmin exclaimed as she checked out the fish to be auctioned off. She looked over and saw a mother of two young children glaring back at her. Yas added with a smile, "Oh, excuse my language. I meant "holy koi"."

No, no. Her idea could still work, at least she hoped it could. Maybe she could get some of the smaller ones.

Yas was envisioning a huge glass coffee table in the WHAM 101.1FM lounge that would make an awesome fish tank. She would make something work. She'd just have to convince a few of the higher ups. Either that or just fill up the coffee table with water, show up with some fish, plop them in, and see if anyone noticed. That could work too.

Until then she'd stay and name all of the koi in the Idea Cottage's backyard...
