Topic: A statement to the Candidates

A missive is delivered to the political headquarters' of the various candidates, as well as to the various news agencies of the city. Numerous other copies are handed out on random streetcorners....often by off-duty members of The Watch.

Gubanatorial Candidates:

Many things have been said, and they need to be addressed.

1) The Watch is not a group of fat, donut-fed officers. Thanks to the assistance of the Kitsune Foundation, The Order of the Knights Templar and the Temple of Divine Light, The Watch is fine example of law enforcement. The Watch works hard to keep the citizens of Rhy-Din safe while working within the limited law set that the city allows. If the Scathachin Sisterhood or any other organization wishes to assist The Watch, while obeying the laws themselves, they are more than welcome.

2) The Red Dragon Inn, as all long-time residents well know, exists outside the laws and regulations of the City. This was established in the Town Charter as the city slowly grew around the RDI. Unless specifically requested by the ownership, no member of The Watch enters the RDI while on duty. Any Candidate who thinks they can bring "law and order" to the RDI and the Duels is fooling themselves.

3) No Candidate worthy of the name should issue threats towards any of the citizens of the City. It is not the job of the Governor to enforce the law....that is the duty of The Watch. Nor should any Candidate bring any personal grudges to the table. The Governor's seat should not be used to get revenge or to harrass those you don't like.

She read the missives with a wiry smile on her lips. So far the points addressed echoed her own stance. She had to shake her head in wonder. It was as if this person was painting all the candidates with the same brush. She picked up the pen and set to writing a response:

To whom it may concern:

I am very aware of the concerns you addressed in your flyers. I don't not believe I ever characterized the Watch or the Guard in such a callous manner as was described.

My stance is that I will work with the Existing Watch and Guard to make sure the citizens of Rhydin and It's environs are safe. Given the recent horrific murders and the arrest and subsequent release of the one suspect that the Watch could identify, I am led to believe that more can be done to support the Watch including an increase in Pay and manpower.

Make no mistake, I was raise to respect the rule of law and the brave souls that have elected to take up this thankless task. Anything I can do to make the job better, I will.

Reads the missive and has to laugh out loud. Then replies.

To Whomever wrote this,

The Watch is a fine example of law enforcement"!" Have you not been reading the Oracle" Not a month goes by without another building being blown to smithereens - even our own government buildings. Slaughtered innocents are turning up everywhere. The paper is full of death and destruction.

What is the Watch watching" Buns rising in the oven" Soap operas at the theater" If this is the best that the Watch can do, then I must stand on my platform. The Scathachin Sisterhood is just the group to bring law and order back into our city. I wouldn't be surprised if Issy on her own could do more to bring peace in one month than the Watch has done all year.

Bringing law and order to the Duels is a contradiction in terms, but I've not given up on bringing it to the Inn. The Inn itself might be warded, but not the people within it. There's been too much violence.

Regarding grudges, I have none. I treat all the common people equally, and that includes the cockroaches who are running against me for Governor.

Sincerely, Count Talomar Longden

A new missive was posted:

If the Sisterhood is such a fine example of law enforcement, then they, and all mercenary organizations, should apply to become watch Themselves

Anyone that sets themselves up outside the law is only contributing to the problems. Vigilantes should not be encouraged!

She smiled with the little challenge, and hummed softly as she went back to greeting the citizens. One of the things she enjoyed doing was healing.
