On the eve of the Gubernatorial Election, Matthew Algiers Simon holds a press conference and gives the following speech, after which he fields questions.

Citizens of Rhydin,

Tomorrow we begin the final round of voting in these elections. You have heard time and again the thoughts and opinions of numerous subjects, including issues facing our city and potential solutions. Wolvinator, G"nort, Karen, and myself all believe we have the best plan to lead you over this next year and we all await your responses in the form of your ballots.

These past few weeks, several controversies have broken out amongst the candidates for Governor and though things have been calm in recent days, I am glad that, for the most part, you have remained focused on the issues that are most important to you and your families.

To those who lead and support the No Confidence campaign, I respect your choice to abstain from the voting. I do think this city needs a leader, but I can understand where others do not. I, among others, was somewhat shocked and dismayed that G"nort's campaign manager, Erinalle Dunbridge, added her name to the list as I cannot reconcile her support for No Confidence while still heading his campaign. In addition, the recent accusations of thievery against Miss Dunbridge have the potential to cast a negative light upon the entirety of G"nort's efforts to become governor. I again encourage you to look past these surrounding events and focus on G"nort's plans and opinions, one of which I heartily disagree with. With all due respect to my opponent, slavery is not a figment of our imaginations; in nearly all cases, there is not an option for the enslaved to simply say ?no' to the one who's captured them. I believe many of you think as I do, since slavery has been one of the most important and frequent topics brought up to all of us. The slaver and the enslaved are not two consenting adults. Again, I say this holds true in most cases, as there are exceptions to every rule. As Governor, I will do my utmost to deal with the rule and not the exception in regard to slavery and decreasing the frequency with which slavers, driven by lust for power and profit, seek to benefit from the sufferings of another.

In regard to the City Watch, you've all heard our plans and thoughts over these last months. Each of the candidates agree that changes must occur to the City Watch and we have varying plans on how to bring about those changes to increase your safety. I believe my plan is the best of the four. I bring no private army and those I know who would come serve do not base their decision on whether or not I am Governor. What I can bring with more effectiveness and ease as Governor is new and enhanced training, more efficient patrols, and better technology to aid those who serve in the watch. How to fund these changes is another topic of concern. As Governor, I will carefully examine the inner-workings of the city's funds and re-direct them where necessary in order to ensure your safety and protection. I will remain a part of the Watch regardless of whether I am elected, but I can better help and lead these vitally necessary changes from the Governor's office.

We have all discussed many other issues, including education, human and meta-human intermixing, and re-building damaged portions of the city. When I began my campaign, I stated that one issue I felt strongly about was narrowing the gap between the city elite and the poor, the haves and the have-nots. I believe the Governor should hold the best interests of all citizens at heart, regardless of their financial status or in which district they live and work. I will not hold one segment of the population in favor over another, and certainly not upon the basis of money or race. Citizens are exactly that: citizens. Each deserves to be treated equally.

I do believe that I am the best choice to serve as your Governor this next year. It's my sincere wish that you elect the person you feel will best represent your interests. I believe I am that person. I believe I can best serve you. I have and will continue to dedicate myself to that end. I thank you for your support and once more encourage all of you to vote. This vote, whether you choose to participate or not, will directly affect the direction of this city and you, its population, for years to come. Please, choose wisely.
