A press conference was convened upon the candidates request, he wanted to ensure that instead of just slapping posters up everywhere like others had done, he wanted to formally address the people. The news reporters gathered, members of the oracle, other newspapers, galactic news networks and what have you. Election time was coming and this was a huge media event all throughout the city. Walking calmly up to the podium was a figure wearing a long brown robe, the hood to such was down by his shoulders. He was clean cut, facial hair and goatee were well maintained, and his eyes were a soft yet deep blue. He looked young, but signs of his age were peppered about his features, and the way he carried himself. As he came to the podium he looked around at the quite large gathering and smiled with a humble nod.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the press, fellow candidates, citizens of Rhy"Din, friends" and family, I thank you for coming." Pausing for a moment he looked around while taking a deep breath, it had been quite some time since he addressed anyone in this manner.
"My name is Wolvinator. Some of you may know me, others have heard of me, and perhaps there are those here that consider me to be a complete stranger. I asked you all here today to announce my gubernatorial bid. I am a man that has been in our fair city for quite some time as a permanent resident, and before hand I was a frequent visitor. I am a member of the City Guard, a Starfleet Admiral, and the head of a coalition to bring peace and prosperity to this great nation."
"For some time now, I have supported the government by protecting the city's streets, keeping others out of harms way, and assisting the common citizen in times of crisis and dire need. I've watched control slowly slip from our governments hands, as there are those that would stand idly by and allow those who wish malice to do with as they please. I attempted a chance at reform with the current administration, but due to budgetary restraints and other matters at hand, it was unable to come to light. So today, I stand before you as a figure for change."
"I wish to do everything in my power to assist each and every one of Rhy"Din citizens. To protect the streets, keep them safe, and not just from the protection of a government office. As a commanding officer of a Federation Starship, it was my duty and responsibility to explore strange new worlds and to protect sovereign nations from outside threats. My credentials at doing so where exemplary, and I was promoted to the rank of Admiral. Yet' my work had not stopped there. Even as an Admiral my work on the front lines continued day by day, I remained in deep space exploring, assisting in security matters, and on two occasions protected Rhy"Din from outside threats before anyone carrying out their normal day-to-day lives could be affected or made aware."
"For over a year, I have served the City guard. Preventing threats and dealing with offenses made by criminals, murderers and villains. I have worked hard to establish a reputation as the 'Go-To' person, when it comes to dealing with situations that appear grim and when justice needs a vessel to act through. I tell you this not as a politician, but as a servant of the people and as a practitioner of freedom."
"And I plan to continue. As your Governor I would be working alongside the City guard personally, assisting in matters, investigations and overall protection. I wish to work with political officials, both present and future elected, as well as my fellow candidates to initiate reform, institute new policies and continue to build on the platforms that Governor Helston has worked so hard for today. Health care clinics, education on all levels, raise the quality of educational benefits at Universities, clean up parts of the city that have been dreaded by pollution, as well as any issues that affect anyone in their daily lives."
"I come to you not just as a candidate, but as a partner. Someone that wishes to be the voice of common citizen, to speak up for those that cannot speak for themselves, and to serve as your governor. Wolvinator smiled and nodded, raising his hand to wave and the gathering. Flash bulbs lit up as people snapped away pictures, and the crowed began to cheer and clap for the candidate. Turning now he stepped down from the platform with a drawn out sigh. This was the speech had waited for quite a long time to make, and now the campaign trail would begin.
