Meet your candidates for Governor!

A primary election will be held March 22 (with early voting on March 20 and 21) to reduce the following candidates from the current eight to four.

Darkmere Alcar

Alcar has a history of leadership as the King of Nosgoth and is proud of his role as leader of his people but still makes sure he has the time to be a devoted husband and father. He is also passionate for making RhyDin a better place for everyone to call home. "It is no secret that I feel the city could be made better. Nor is it a secret to those that know me, that I tend to avoid RhyDin due to how easy it is for criminals to walk free," Alcar stated in a recent interview. His supporters are encouraged by his strong stance on crime and are eager to hear more of his plans to make the city a safer place. Alcar feels that the governor of this city should be a leader to the citizens. He also believes it is necessary to fill the role with a candidate with whom the people can relate and respect. If elected, he has pledged to do all in his power to deter crime, putting the safety of the people of RhyDin first. He also believes that it is important to publicize the city's appeal and spread the word that RhyDin can be an excellent location to raise a family. Civic pride will discourage crime and encourage family-oriented citizens to remain in the city rather than moving outside of it. "I think with the help of the people, we can make RhyDin a better town if we all work together instead of against one another. If we do this, in time RhyDin would transform from the city it is now into a far better place."

Tormay Eludes

Eludes is best known for currently holding the title of Overlord of the Duel of Swords. However, he has held a variety of different titles, including mapmaker, scribe, messenger, and historian. Recently, he became a co-owner of a fruit stand in the Marketplace. Eludes admits that the dueling world has not complete accepted him but claims that it is due to his meteoric rise to the top and has found it a place in which to hone the skills that he would need as governor. "Some people like to act in a familiar way with other people, and others prefer formality. The experience with the politics of rank in the duels has me prepared for governor no problem," he recently told a reporter. Eludes feels that the position of Overlord has not allowed him to give back to the community as much as he wishes and he hopes that in becoming the city's governor, he will have an opportunity to do more through charity events to raise awareness to the city's less fortunate. There are also some real efficiency gains that he believes can be made to the city's infrastructure. "It was suggested that the docks be made to run more efficiently, it is full of delays and more money could be made if the ships loaded and unloaded faster." Eludes is open that he hopes that in running he will introduce more people to the sport that he loves. "I ...want to make the duels more accessible to everyone, so I want to set up a program with free training to everyone who wishes to learn."

Krajiinkt Vakntah Kro'burst F'nakestah

F'nakestah is a recent immigrant to the city and knows the trials and tribulations that come with attempting to adapt in RhyDin. He serves as the ambassador to RhyDin from the K'neah empire of which his father is the Grand Admiral or king. He has a learned reputation with a concentration in languages. F'nakestah's purpose in running is to help the plight of his people who have fled their home world and are having trouble settling in RhyDin as the air quality is not right for their survivial. In fact, even F'nakestah can only live in RhyDin thanks to a specially designed breathing unit. Time is of the essence for F'nakestah whose people are stationed in a mass of ships but are running out of resources. "I hope that becoming governor, if that should happen, that I'll be able to help my kind more, and make it a bit less difficult for them to ease into society here, for it is much different than the society we are so used to," he stated this week in an interview. He acknowledges that the governor of RhyDin has little actual power but prefers to see the role as an opportunity to be an emissary in order to help bridge the gaps between RhyDin's many races, including his own. "I hope to get my kind here on Rhy'Din, and the people of Rhy'Din, working together. The K'neah are still rooted in their old ways, but are willing and able to change for the common good, that includes the people of Rhy'Din."

Sinjin Fai

Unlike Alcar, Fai does not have a background in politics and his supporters, including many local business owners, believe that is exactly what makes him an interesting candidate for the job. He is quite familiar with the small businesses that make up this city through his duties as owner of Ambrosio Enterprises which specializes in the funding of small businesses through loans and general patronage. Fai describes himself as "..an extremely up front person who enjoys tequila and women to heavy extents — so basically I'm like most other men here in Rhy'din." He has been up front and honest with the city that he is running for governor in order to eliminate the position. "The money that would funnel into paying the government would be spread amongst other city-paid jobs so they still run and function just as well as before," he was quoted as saying. He makes it clear that he is not opposed to government but his belief is that the city of RhyDin thrives from its independence from government. His supporters within the business community agree that to keep the city's economy strong, the government should not influence the market. When asked what issues interest him, he was kind enough to provide this reporter with the following list: "What brand of tequila am I drinking" Are those tits real" How many times can I irritate Ali before he'll just punch me" No seriously, are those tits real?"

Tara Rynieyn

Rynieyn is nothing if not larger than life. Although she lists her current occupation as "socialite", she has worn many different hats in her 699 years and through fifty different husbands and the births of eighteen children. Born a princess, she has worked in the guilds, held an honored position in the Slaver's Association, and is the Chief Political Strategist for Blood House Onyx. "My favorite color is purple. I love to eat red gumdrops by the bagful and to my knowledge, I am the only woman in town ever to have a talking voodoo doll. His name is Arthur," she clarifies further in an interview. Her campaign motto is "Back to Basics" and having lived in this city as long as she has, she knows quite a bit about those basics. "I would like to see Rhy'Din restored to its former glory during the days when dragons filled the skies, minstrels sang in the taverns and women were referred to as wenches." Ryieyn sees the role of governor as a unifier between the cities many guilds, houses, and divisions. As someone with a great number of family and friends scattered out throughout all of those guilds, houses, and divisions, she feels as if she is in a unique position to provide leadership and promote solidarity."I believe the single most important issue in this town right now is education. There's a lot of stupid people running around. I also plan to exterminate all gnomes of the garden variety."

Matthew Simon

Governor Simon is encouraged by the progress he has seen in this city over the past year he has held the office of governor but is quick to say that the work he does not feel his is done yet. "Two years ago, safety was an immediate concern for everyone here " crime rates were up, the tragic Marketplace bombing took place. I've been able to re-turn the City Watch, bringing them new equipment and tactics, and utilizing local businesses to do it, helping the overall economy. Criminal activity on the ground, in the skies, and to some extent, in the waters, has been reduced," he was quoted recently in an interview as saying when asked of his accomplishments over the past year. Yet, he's quick to say that more most be done to protect the city. Simon, who is also owner and operator of the Outback which serves as the primary home of the Duel of Fists sport, acknowledges that he lives a life out of the public eye. He is married to Koyliak VanDuran-Simon, owner of Heavenly Botique, and the pair have a new baby. He is a retired Colonel in the Terran Confederation Space Force and has been acclaimed by many of the city's pilots for the complete revamping of the city's space program. "The Governor must look ahead to next year, the next five, ten, fifteen years, and institute plans and policies that will not only benefit the current population, but the next generation of citizens who will make Rhydin their home."

Lord Travanix

Travanix has proved to be a controversial candidate to say the least. He was raised on the Imperial homeworld where he choose a military path which led him to joining the Imperial Navy. Upon completion of his service to his people, he moved into the private sector. He started a business in RhyDin when he first moved to the city a decade ago and has had the pleasure of watching it grow into a successful venture. "After having been a resident for so long, I want to contribute to the greatness of the city," he stated when asked in a recent interview why he had decided to run for governor. He sees the governor as a multi-faceted job which includes being the city's community leader by remaining in touch with the city's needs and changes, military commander, diplomat to mediate the different issues that arise between the city's different factions, and policy maker. Travanix believes that "there is strength in the law and ordinances of the city. They are not meant to hinder, but meant to strengthen the community." Yet, like many of the other candidates, the safety of the citizens is his primary concern. "We must make sure that we are safe and secure. However, security is not just in the home but in the business as well. I know that many of our fine citizens have their own businesses. They need to make sure that they can turn a profit, and in doing so they can put more money back into the city."

Corlanthis Wystansayr

Wystansayr, an owner of a local omelette shop in Marketplace, finds his passion for the possession comes in being a man of the people. He claims to be a common man without "any special powers, what so ever, unless you count fixing up a fine omelette or a fantastic glass of tea". He feels that being one with the people he hopes to represent will allow him to identify with their trials and tribulations. The people of RhyDin can trust him because their problems are his problems. He fears that an inactive government has led to crime and corruption in the city and cites, as an example, an incident of a ship being stolen from the docks. "I see the role of Governor as being the moral linchpin of Rhy'din society. And someone that can speak for all of the people who don't have the strength to toss mountains around or the magical ability to rewrite the laws of reality," Wystansayr was quoted as saying when asked about how he saw the governor's role in the city. He talks of being a people's governor and listening to all of their concerns. There is even talk that he would put a suggestion box in the Marketplace so that citizens would have a direct route to having a voice. "In closing, thank you for your time and I would just like to say to the other candidates, may the best man win! Or possibly Tara. I hear she's running. Wouldn't that be weird if she won' Isn't she a little...flighty for office, don't you think" Wait. Is this still on' Hmm."
