The day after Fio Helston, Edward Batten and others were attacked in the Red Dragon Inn, Matthew Simon made the following announcement to the press.

::standing behind a podium, Matt appears somber. However, he speaks with meaning and earnest::

Good morning,

As many of you are already aware, someone is organizing threats on candidates for Governor and their supporters. In a very unfortunate situation last night, an actual assault took place. First and foremost, let me state that I am both glad and relieved to hear that Ms. Al-Amat, Mr. Batton, and others who were present in the Red Dragon in during the attack on May 27th did not sustain significant physical harm. I wish them all a complete and speedy recovery, both mentally and physically, from this unwarranted attack.

Claims have been made as to who the persons are behind this attack and the threats. I, along with others, have given all the information we have to the Watch who are in the midst of their investigation. Ms. Al-Amat called this attack reckless and vicious; I agree with this sentiment. To whomever perpetuated the attack and is responsible for the threats against Dyarhk, Ms. Al-Amat, Mr. Batten, Mr. Wystansayr and Mr. DeMuer, I call for your cowardly actions to immediately cease! As candidates and as citizens, we are only doing and acting in what we each believe are the best interests of Rhydin. Disagreements with our opinions and ideas are fine and indeed welcomed, but violent actions designed to silence or intimidate any of us cannot and will not be tolerated! Those under threat are facing undeserved and needless peril. That their lives are in danger for expressing an opinion, for running for office, or for whatever other reasons these threats have been made and acted upon is outrageous and must not continue!

::pausing for a moment, Matt's voice lowers back to a normal tone as he continues::

It's been said that those carrying out the intimidation tactics do not want to see my opponents elected to the Governor's seat. Let me be extremely clear " I in no way support or by any means find acceptable these threats or the subsequent assault on my opponents, their supporters, or upon any other citizen. I do not condone them in any way and it's my sincere wish that they are brought to an immediate end! The citizens of this city have ample opportunity to make their feelings known through the vote during the election period " these threats and attacks undermine the system and have no place within it. Over the past weeks, I have stated many times that We are Rhydin. As a city, as one, let us move together toward our common goals - not through intimidation and fear and menace - but peacefully and within the established political process.

Thank you.
