Riley really hoped that Oliver Granger's sister didn't mind the fact that her new attorney was still dressed in a practise leotard, tutu, and had bare feet." Since she didn't make her living as an attorney and generally only took cases that appealed to her on a level other than monetary, she didn't have a formal office and usually saw clients in one of the empty storefronts in the Zen Gardens Building." Today, she'd set up shop in the former location of the Tranquility Bookstore, a space that had been empty for the better part of a year now." Maybe she should just take the plunge and open a law office and hire some associates and make a go of being in private practise again.

Well no it wouldn't be..all that bad would it' Paige might have to fuss at Dean to keep his eyes from Riley of course! Dean's arm was hugged on as he was dragged along until they were at the appointed place. Riley's attire was a bit of a surprise upon first sight and the first thing Paige found herself wondering was 'Wrong directions" Left turn where there should have been a right"' On that note she smiled a tad sheepishly. "Mrs. Lo?"

Dean was a little nervous about this whole meeting, not just because of what it was about but because he had been slightly acquainted with Riley when he'd been in Rhydin the first time around and had always gotten the impression that she either didn't like him or felt awkward around him. He knew why, but it didn't make him feel any less nervous. Still, she had a sterling reputation as a lawyer and he knew they could do no better than her.

Riley looked up from the counter behind which she was perched on a forgotten stool...and did a double-take." She gaped at Dean for a moment, her mouth hanging open down to her chest for the split second it took for her sense of smell to catch up with what she was seeing." Not Rhys." Rhys-doppelganger." Riley blushed deeply, shut her mouth, and ran an embarrassed hand over her hair, which had been severely restrained into a braid that hung down to the middle of her back." "Yes, that's me," she said and took a deep breath, calming down more now." "You must be Miss Lovelace." C'mon in." Please excuse me.?" She gave Dean a sheepish smile and slid off the stool, rounding the counter and headed for a small desk that was surrounded by three chairs.

He might be in love with Paige but he still had eyes in his head and couldn't help checking out their new lawyer. She was wearing a tutu after all and he just couldn't resist pointing it out. "Never saw a lawyer in a tutu before. It looks good on you." Same old Dean, just a younger mode. "Is that what all the lawyers are wearing this year?"

A sable brow arched at his comment and one corner of Riley's mouth twisted in a subtle smirk." It was truly frightening just how much this Dean had in common with her erstwhile lover." She sat down at the desk and shook her head." "I hope you get better control of your mouth if this goes to court."

Between Riley and Dean, Paige glanced. There was something going on there and she wasn't quite sure what. "Oh, he will behave I am almost ..sure. And please don't worry. Thank you for taking time out to see us." She moved to the chair pulled out, avoiding looking at the gawking Dean while she planted herself in that chair. Gawk away, she'll pretend not to notice.

He smirked a little at Paige's very polite response to Riley and reassurance that he'd behave. Once she was settled, he took a seat beside her and shut his mouth, turning to serious business. There was a time and a place, after all.

Riley looked back and forth between the young couple and then smiled." They were cute in a wholesome sort of way." Very likable, where as the...plaintiff...was the epitome of everything that was wrong with the rich." "So, how can I help you?"

Well if he knew what was good for him he would so behave! Settling back a bit, Paige pulled her purse to rest on her lap. "How much has Ollie told you?" It was best to find out what the woman knew so she could fill in from there. She felt so nervous. Fidgeting with the bandages of her broken hand, she glanced over to Dean.

Dean reached over to slide his hand in Paige's - the uninjured one - and give her a reassuring but gentle squeeze. "He broke her hand, for starters," Dean blurted out. "That's gotta be....what....assault and battery?"

"Not much, I'm afraid," Riley answered Paige" "Just that you're being sued by your father...?" She trailed off and blinked at Dean's outburst." "He who??" She dragged a pen and ubiquitous yellow legal pad over to her and began scribbling notes.

"Dean!" Paige's lips turned a frown that she quickly pressed down. Her eyes turned to Riley. "Yes. Oh!" She used the broken hand, since her other was preoccupied, to pull out the papers from her purse and pass those over to Riley. "My father." She offered to Riley in answer of Dean's outburst.

He snorted when Riley mentioned Paige being sued. It should be the other way around, in his opinion. And from the look on his face regarding Paige's father, it seemed there was no love lost there. He was her father only because they shared the same gene pool, as far as he was concerned.

Riley nodded and read through the documents carefully, scribbling notes." She was silent as she worked, caramel eyes devoid of emotion as she began plotting a legal defense, outlining her strategy on the legal pad. When she was done, she glanced up and passed a hard look back and forth between them." "This is quite a laundry list of charges here." Have you been arrested yet?" Either of you?"

Paige shook her head a single time. "No, but I am concerned about that." She looked from Dean to Riley. "Very much so in Dean's case since most of the charges are against him. I guess...I guess I should explain from the start?"

"Arrested"!" Dean shouted. "She didn't do anything wrong! He's the one who should be arrested!"

Riley nodded and crossed sinfully long legs beneath the table." Then she fixed Dean with a look." "Would you like to handle this on your own?" she asked him, wanting to lay the ground work for total cooperation now at the start of things while there was still a chance of saving herself a massive headache.

"He kicked her out of her own house, hit her, took her things, tried to kill her cat. And he's suing us" The hell..." Dean sighed, annoyed, but not with either of them, just the situation and obviously, with Paige's poor excuse for a father. "What kind of person kills a cat?"

"I'm trying to do my job, Mr Winchester" Riley said with infinite patience." "Might I suggest you shut up so I can help you?"

He opened his mouth to say more but then shut it as Riley scolded him. Mister Winchester. That made him sound sort of important. He kind of liked the sound of that. And he was all of seventeen. He wondered if Riley had called him that in a condescending sort of way. Like when your parents used your middle name. You knew you were in trouble then. He figured that she probably had and scowled at her.

"Well..that is about it in a nutshell." Paige said softly and looked over at Dean and chuckled. Looking over to Riley she smiled sheepishly. "Please forgive him. He's very passionate.

Riley turned to Paige." "Tell me everything that you feel is pertinent to your case and then I'll offer my suggestions." If you don't like them, I can help you find someone else to represent you." Does that sound reasonable?"

Paige nodded to Riley. "To be honest I don't know what to say. The man has beaten me, twice now. I've barely known him my entire life but he seems to be the worse sort of man. When I first went to visit him, he got angry at me for just mentioning Ollie's name. He thought I was there for money when I was just trying to get him to my mother's side on her death bed." Looking at her purse she fidgeted a bit. "And the second time was when I was returning from a concert. He was there, at my house, and claimed the property, which I've lived all my life on, was his and I should get off of it. He gave me no time to collect my things, stating I had none there. He kept calling my mother a whore and I..." She winced knowing it wasn't going to go in her favor. "I slapped him for it. In turn he broke my hand by stepping on it, took my violin, and told me to get off his land before he called the Watch."

Riley nodded, jotting things down as she spoke, underlining a few things to draw attention to them when she went back over her notes later that night." Then she looked up and nodded at Dean." "And how did you get involved in all of this?"

Dean turned to Paige as she told the story, his expression changing from sympathetic to angry and back again, his face flushing a little as he tried to control the rage he was feeling, but he only blew out a small breath and clung to Paige's hand. He clenched his jaw as he turned to Riley, eyes flashing with anger and obvious hatred of the man. "How did I get involved" I went to her house to get her things and he was there."

"And...?"

"Dean.." Paige's eyes drifted over to him and she squeezed his hand softly. "Please...give her details of what happened. Calm down."

He nodded and squared himself. "The door was open. I went inside and found her cat. Granger was drunk and talking about having the pound take her away to be destroyed. That's all I took. He said he'd already gotten rid of everything else. He accused her of putting me up to it, threw a bottle at me, threatened me. All I wanted was her cat and her violin, that's all."

"And to point out," she looked over to Riley, shaking her head. "I was actually not aware he had gone to do so. In fact, I had told him not to when he mentioned it to me. It was far too dangerous." She was afraid. "But he wanted to surprise me." She squeezed Dean's hand.

Riley nodded." If this went to trial - and knowing the plaintiff as she did, it would - there was no way she'd allow Dean to take the stand." He was far too emotional." There was no way to control him or make him sympathetic to the jury." Paige, on the other hand, would definitely look good on the stand. She was likeable, polite, and definitely sympathetic. "Okay," she said to Dean." "So why all these charges?" What happened?" Did you take a swing at him?" Threaten him?" He threaten you?" Threaten her?" She wrote down what Paige said about not having previous knowledge of Dean's plans and drew little stars at the beginning and end of the line.

"He threw a bottle at me, came at me looking like....look, sometimes you just know from the look in someone's eyes that they're not looking to give you a hug, so, I pulled a gun on him," Dean explained. "Just to keep him away. He took a swing at me and it went off, but the shot went wide. I grabbed the cat and hightailed it out of there and that was that. I wasn't gonna stick around to see what he'd do next. I had what I came for. I stole a cat." Big deal. It was her cat in the first place. I wanna see the son of a bitch pay for what he did to her. That's all I want. And since when did Law and Order come to Rhydin?"

A brow arched as she wrote this down, too, but she refrained from commenting for the moment." Then she looked up, back and forth between Paige and Dean, and then pursed her lips in thought." "Why don't you go wait out in the hall, Mr Winchester?"" She gave him a sweet smile and pointed to the door.

He scowled and grumbled under his breath like a kid who'd just be scolded and sent out into the hall by a teacher, got up and headed toward the door, thankfully not kicking his toe against the floor on his way out.

Paige's lips sealed and both brows arched high on her forehead. Oh dear. Slowly her lips relaxed and she smiled to Dean. Dean was being sent to the hall." She watched after him, attempting to bite back a giggle.

Riley shook her head and pinched the bridge of her nose before looking back up at Paige." "Okay." So, you and your father are estranged, is that correct?"

"Correct. I actually know very little about him and the Granger family. Meeting Ollie was completely by accident. Father wasn't a big part of my life. He came maybe once or twice during the year. Pop in, drop stuff off, and leave. From my understanding though, it was money to keep my mother silent of their affair and me being his child. At least that is what I gathered from his spouting off." She glanced to the door, watching it as if expecting Dean to return.

Riley nodded, writing this down." "And the house?" It was owned by your father?" Do you know if your mother paid rent for it?"

"I do not know. He said that it was his so maybe we were just living there by his good graces." Notice how her expression soured with using those particular words and her father in the same sentence" The words just tasted awful.

"Okay, well, even if he owned the house and she didn't pay him rent, he had absolutely no right to kick you out without proper notice, nor did he have the right to keep your things." If you approve, I'll go ahead and file suit in court, and demand that he return all of your belongings." Since you've vacated the premises and you're unsure of whether your mother paid rent, I'm afraid I can't do much to get you back in there.?" Riley paused for a moment and then ticked a look at the door and out into the hallway." "If he can behave and keep his mouth shut until I ask him something, he can come back in."

Dean paced the floor, grumbling to himself while Paige consulted with Riley. He wasn't angry with either of the women, but he was enraged about her father and if he had his way, he'd like nothing better than to beat the crap out of the guy, but he'd leave the matter in Riley's capable hands. For now.

"He's just upset about everything that has happened." Paige's eyes redirected back to Riley. "Mrs. Lo, I will be honest with you. That man took everything I had. Including my ability to play the violin. What money I had saved up to pay for the bills my mother left behind was in that house. From what Dean has told me, none of my belongings even exist in there." She smiled sadly. "I also don't know how I am going to pay you."

"Don't worry about that." Your bill's been covered." And we can get your things back, but it'll be a fight." Are you up for it?"

She peered at Riley at that. "Covered?" She gave a brief nod and rose from her seat. Moving the door she opened it enough to gesture Dean back inside. "I am, but I am not quite sure it is worth it. If he has sold them then how would we get them back" Also would it be worth it' I don't want to put you through any unnecessary hardships."

"Miss Lovelace, what this man - your father, your own flesh and blood - has done to you is negligent." Criminally negligent." And he did it to scores of women before he did it to you and your mother." He did it to your brother and your sister, too, and their mother." It's time someone stands up to him and tells him no more."

Well, Riley had Paige's attention. Sister" She had a sister" "He...He did it to Ollie?" Her jaw tightened and she waited at the door for Dean. "I wasn't aware of that. How can a man be so cruel?" Her purse was moved around just so she could cradle her hand.

He turned when he heard the door open and looked over at Paige, looking a little sheepish as he re-entered the room, like an errant child. No longer angry, just wanting justice served. He listened quietly to both of them as he returned to his place beside Paige, moving to stand beside her. And then he did the ultimate thing that men never did unless they were in love " he reached to relieve her of her purse. He could never understand why women carried the silly things anyway. Everything he needed he carried in his pockets or inside a jacket, including a sidearm.

Riley glanced back at the stack of paperwork on her desk and rifled through it until she came to the list of charges against Dean.? Then she nodded to the chairs across from her, indicating that she wanted them both to sit down again.

Paige leaned to Dean teasingly. "Please, no more. Only when spoken to okay." Her lips brushed his cheek in a brief kiss and off to her seat she went, taking it once again.

"Yes, dear," he whispered back with a small smile when he was kissed and he followed her back to reclaim his seat.

"So, I'm going to guess that you haven't been arrested on any of these charges?" she said to Dean, flipping over another page in the legal pad in preparation for his side of things.

Paige mumbled, "Yet." In other words, she was waiting for it.

He was about to answer Riley when Paige's reply caught his attention and he frowned at her. "Don't be ridiculous. I'm not gonna be arrested. It's Rhydin!"

Paige stared at Dean. "And I wouldn't put it past my father to see you arrested."

Riley nodded her agreement with Paige's opinion." "And that brings me to my next point." If there's an arrest warrant, I strongly urge you to turn yourself in and cooperate fully with the Watch." These are very serious charges, Mr Winchester." They're not something to laugh about.?" Her eyes narrowed dangerously, flashing with barely controlled irritation. "Look, Mr Winchester, I'm going to level with you." I don't really want to take your case." You're mouthy, belligerent towards someone who's actually trying to help you, and there is no way in hell I'd ever consider putting you on the stand."

"Do I look like I'm laughing?" From the look on his face, he was obviously not amused. "But honestly....All I did was rescue her cat."

"And pull a gun on a man who still has enough money and influence to make your life and the life of your girlfriend very, very miserable for a very, very long time."

"I'm not..." He sighed, giving in to her. "What do you want me to do?"

"Shut up, for one. When I ask you a question, I expect you to answer the question and not go off on some half-cocked rant that only serves to hurt Miss Lovelace's suit." Do you understand me?"

"Yeah, I understand."

Riley needed a whip and some leather instead of the tutu, Paige thought. Wait no, Dean would like that too much. Her head tipped to the side as she looked at Dean. She knew he meant well and what was setting him off. Reaching out, she patted his arm.

"Good.?" Riley took another deep breath and closed her eyes for a brief second, murmuring something Japanese under her breath before looking at Dean once more." "So." If there is a warrant for your arrest, I strongly suggest you march down to your nearest Watch House and turn yourself in." I further suggest that you cooperate fully with the Watch as they investigate these allegations and with Mr Granger's attorney, should he wish to deposition you." Don't worry about that, though; I'll be with you should it come to that."

"Deposition me" Seriously' You think it will come to that' What happens when they arrest me" Who's gonna bail me out' I'm not planning on becoming anyone's bitch in jail."

"What of me, Mrs. Lo' Should I also..?" Paige's fingers curled down into her purse.

"I doubt very seriously that any judge will issue bench warrants for you on this charge," Riley replied." "It's a frivolous and irresponsible action on Mr Granger's attorney's behalf." I wouldn't worry about it." Then she turned to Dean." "I do think it will come to that." I know Mr Granger; I did work for him last year." I know what he's like and what he's capable of." He will push this as far as he can.?" She paused for a moment." "And as far as bail and everything else goes, don't worry about it." Like I said, your bill's been handled."

Paige blinked at Riley. "You worked for him' Then why are you helping me?"

"Frankly' It's because he's an assh*le.?" She smirked and shrugged." "Ask Ollie what he did to him and you'll understand."

"So, how do I know if there's a warrant out for my arrest?" In the past, Dean had always stayed one step ahead of the law, or at least, tried to. It wasn't really in his nature to play by the rules.

"I'll check tomorrow morning and let you know as soon as I do." When I phone you, we can decide then when you'll turn yourself in, and I'll meet you at the Watch House."

"Awesome. Better serve some decent chow. And I don't want Tiny for a cell mate." And then he got a thought. "Hey! Am I even old enough to go to jail" Wouldn't they send me to juvenile or something?"

"You were old enough to pull a gun on a man' Riley said." "You're old enough to serve time for it."

"Was old enough to do that when I was six." Okay, maybe not six. Maybe ten. He was exaggerating a little. He sure as hell knew how to shoot one at six though.

Riley closed her eyes, muttering in Japanese for a long, long moment." "Maybe you'd be better off engaging someone else, Mr Winchester." Someone better suited to dealing with someone who doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut."

Dean frowned at her, looking sheepish again. "Sorry, I was just thinking out loud. I know, I know....A little less of this..." He mimicked talking with one hand. "And a little more of that." His fingers closed like a mouth shutting.

"Try thinking in your own head next time.?" Riley added a sweet smile to soften the blow of the words.

"Yes, ma'am." He smiled sweetly in return.

Paige couldn't help herself. A single giggle escaped her lips.

"Saints preserve me," Riley said under her breath." Then she flipped back through her notes and outlined their battle strategy." "First thing tomorrow morning, I'll phone the Watch to see if there's a warrant out for your arrest." If there is, we'll arrange for you to surrender yourself at the Watch House." You'll be there for at least a few hours until we can get you bonded out.?" Then she turned to Paige." "And while we're waiting for his bail, I'll file suit for the return of your belongings - or their approximate value, if Mr Granger has liquidated them." And, with your blessing, Miss Lovelace, I'll file counter charges of assault and battery against Mr Granger." I'll need your healer or your doctor's contact information for that."

Nail the son of a bitch's ass to a wall, Dean thought to himself, being a good boy and keeping his thoughts to himself like Riley suggested. The idea of spending any amount of time in a cell was unpleasant, but it wasn't the first time and wouldn't be the last, so long as things went according to plan. Any more than a few hours and he'd go stark raving mad. He didn't look too happy about the idea of turning himself in, but other than skipping town, could think of no good alternative. "I just wanted to get her things back."

"Please do what you can, Mrs. Lo," Paige said. "If you think it is worth it, you've all my blessings. Doctor Monceaux is the only doctor I've seen so far. But I will be going to a healer eventually." She smiled over to Dean. "You got Seraphita back."

Riley nodded and extended the pen and paper to Paige." "Just jot down how I can reach him?" Her?"

"Her." Paige nodded and reached out to take the pen, writing down the number for the doctor. "She was my mother's doctor before she passed." And to whom Paige owed a large amount of money. The pen was lowered and the paper pushed over to Riley.

"Don't feel badly, Mr Winchester." You could have been polite and respectful and completely non-confrontational and he still would have found something to sue over."

"Mrs. Lo, I am not in this for his money." She seemed to state it suddenly and without reason. "I am sure...I am sure that is what he is thinking and I don't want others to think that as well. What little I have was clothes I had tucked at the concert hall."

"No, I know you're not after his money." You're after justice." That's why I agreed to take this case, Miss Lovelace.?" She gave Paige a slightly sheepish smile." "That and the chance to stick it to Junior."

"Please. You are more then welcome to call me Paige." She smiled. "Payback huh." Only a tiny tease. "He is an awful sort, isn't he?"

"Yeah, the worst sort of man imaginable." But don't worry." I'll take care of you.?" She glanced at Dean." "You, too, Smiley."

He smiled a little. "Just make sure I don't spend more than a few hours in jail. I get claustrophobic."

"Don't know; it might do you some good." She teased Dean and looked away innocently. "Mrs. Lo' If I might ask..You said that my bill is covered. It's not Ollie's doing is it?"

"No, it wouldn't," he told her bluntly, not wanting to tell her he'd spent time in jail before.

"I'm afraid I'm not at liberty to say who your benefactor is." But if you need any money to cover rent on a new place, or doctor's bills, or just to buy groceries, let me know and I'll pass it on."

Paige was going to scold Ollie. He was the only one who knew! "I...Oh no that's okay. I mean my job at the Plaza helps pay for some things. And.." She blinked over to Dean. "Is there rent?"

He shook his head at Paige. "I own it." He didn't bother to explain about that further. "And I'm working on getting a job."

"What do you do?" Riley asked Dean, wondering if there was anyway she could help with that.

"Umm....To earn a living, you mean?" He assumed she didn't mean the hunting thing. He shrugged. "Auto mechanic, carpenter, jack of all trades....does playing poker count?"

"We're going to be opening a casino in November," Riley said.

He arched a brow. "A casino You're going to need dealers, right' And security guards" What about those guys who make sure no one is cheating?"

"Yep." Think Monte Carlo." Actually, we need some finish carpenters right now." You should go check things out and see if they could use you. We'll need all of that once the place is open." Kitchen help, bell boys, pool attendants." You name it, we'll need it."

Paige leaned into her chair as she watched Dean. He seemed a little excited. "Pool boy," she mumbled to herself.

He chuckled. "I dunno about pool boy, but I know a thing or two about gambling....and security."

"We'll be holding a big career fair in October," Riley said. "But until then, if you're interested in a construction gig, I'd suggest going to see what?s available."

"Maybe I'll do that. I appreciate the tip." It would feel good to get a hammer in his hand again instead of a gun.

"So, is there anything else I can do for you?" Either of you?" Riley asked.

He smiled over at Paige, looking a lot less glum than he had when they'd arrived, even though he might have to spend a few hours in jail. He reached for her hand. "I think that about covers it. Unless you can suggest a nice apartment complex."

Paige shook her head and looked to her hand as Dean scooped it up. She blinked over at him, completely baffled by his sudden request. "Dean?"

He arched a brow at Paige. "What' If I get a job, we can afford a better place."

"I wasn't aware you wanted to look for a new place."

He shrugged. There were too many memories for him at the loft, but he didn't want to tell her that now. "You deserve a nicer place."

Riley pointed upstairs." "The entire third floor of this building is empty." I could show you around now if you'd like." She smiled." "Well, think about it and let me know." You could have the entire floor to yourselves or move in on the second floor." There's one spot left." My old loft, in fact."

He didn't want to pressure her. He wasn't even completely sure if she wanted to stay with him. He nodded to Riley. "We'll let you know."

"Well, I do have a little saved on the side" Paige said. "We can at least look if you want."

Riley stood and gathered up her files and notes and the documents from Paige." "Mind if I make a copy of these?"

"Please go ahead. You probably need to keep a copy for your files." With Dean's hand in her own she stood. "I want to thank you deeply for your time and help, Mrs. Lo."

Dean waited for Paige to answer Riley regarding the papers, looking at her expectantly and maybe even a little excitedly. Things seemed to be falling quickly into place. Maybe his lucky really was turning.

She smiled and reached out to gently pat Paige's arm." "I'm happy to have the chance to help you." Give me just a second to run these through the copier and then I'll show you the place upstairs.?" She quickly dashed into the office in the dance studios to make copies.

Paige smiled to Riley and turned to Dean after the lawyer left. She raised a brow at him. "Next time, I am coming armed with tape." She was teasing him of course. Maybe!

He had to snicker a little at the sight of a lawyer dashing to make copies in a tutu. Once Riley disappeared from sight, he stood and turned to Paige. He smirked. "Sorry, I get a little carried away sometimes, I guess."

Riley quickly returned and then led them up the stairs and into Unit 2A." Handing Paige the keys, she told the girl to lock up when she was finished and then ran down the stairs again to teach her last class of the day.
