AFTERMATH: Questions Unanswered

Elessaria had finally regained enough strength to make the walk from the Inn all the way to the shoreline. Her empathy was still unpredictable. At times the elf felt as if she were moving through life with blinders on and at others, its return would jolt her from her slumber. She still wasn't entirely sure what happened the last time she stood here upon the sands and watched the azure waves caress the shores. She did recall, however, the very vivid fear and concern in her friends" eyes; if it had not been for them, Eless realized she probably would not have survived the ordeal. In fact, she might not have even wanted to survive. Their presence helped her to regain her focus" she still had duties to perform' and more importantly, she was not alone in the world. The blankets and hot tea treated the physical shock and luckily Darkmere and Icer had been at the Inn to help tend to her magical wounds. She had drawn only enough mana from them to ease some of the empathic trauma, because she feared to injure them by drawing anymore.

At the top of the highest dune the petite elf could find, she sat gazing out into slowly darkening sky. The sunset painted a beautiful canvas with brilliant hues of violets, scarlet and gold that despite its beauty, brought back the surrealistic blood bath of lightening quick images to which she bore witness empathically. The gentle sea breeze washed over Eless, toying with her golden hair and slipping some strands from where she had pulled them back and pinned them with fragrant sprigs of blue and white freesia. As usual, her tiny feet were bare and she curled her toes in and out of the soft sand. She had finally assembled a few pieces of the puzzle from that night. The elf knew she maintained a deep connection via her empathy with any one she held dear, as well as those she has healed. Once she wrestled away from the paralyzing shock that numbed her senses, she realized it was Connar's aura that she had sensed. It was his pain and suffering that she had felt so deeply; but, how and why were questioned yet to be answered. Eless didn't know for certain whether Connar lived or died. This realm teemed with magic; yet, magic did not exist in his world" at least not in the same way. She tried to edge past the veil that separated their realms; but, it was impossible. Still she refused to believe that he was dead; he had survived near deaths before and she would not give up.

Her chin held high, The Lady Fire of Evandar stood smoothly and walked to the water's edge with her innate grace. She knew the Servants of the Dark had found her during her struggle and tried to break her with her own power. She also knew that she tempted fate once again as instinct and emotions called forth her gift. The blue flames began to flare brightly deep within her eyes and as her power grew, tongues of blue flame began to surround her diminutive figure in stark contrast to the darkness of nightfall. She prayed fervently to Corellon and desperately pleaded for Connar's god to allow him to live and to continue to serve him. The winds formed from the whirlwind of flame engulfing the elven mage, tore the flowers from her hair and whipped the ivory silk into a reflection of the white caps that rode the waves.

"Ce n"est ni le temps ni le lieu pour nous, je te comprends, cher. Mais je refuse de te dire l"adieu aussi. S"il te plait, suis ma voix....cherche encore la lumiere...."

~I cannot understand it The search for an answer is met with a darker day And we have been handed these moments forever But I am reassured theres another way

You do not have to close your eyes Therés room for love again Ease the pain to realize all that love can be Forced apart by time & sand Take a step & take my hand And dońt let it go Never let go

Broken, once connected We were so strong & so blessed in a simple way So dońt let me go it alone

Turn your head up to the sky Nothing down below but me Face the truth to realize all that we could be Torn apart by rage & fear Hold on to what brought you here Dońt let it go Never let go ~ "Never Let Go"- Josh Groban & Deep Forest

AFTERMATH: I Will Remember You

Once again Elessaria found herself standing on the shoreline, her gaze searching for something....some sort of reassurance or proof that Connar was alive and healthy; but, all she found was the near blinding blaze of the golden sun as it began its daily descent to dip below the horizon until the morrow. The cool sand between her bare toes signaled the passing of summer into autumn and as she wriggled them , a gentle smile graced her soft, pink lips. Sand. Deserts and sands. These thoughts brought forth fond memories of sitting on the swing on The Red Dragon Inn's front porch and listening to Connar recount a little portion of his time living in the desert. Ever since then, snippets of a poem learned long ago teased her memory until this past week. Once she remembered the poem in its entirety, Eless quickly wrote it down and then copied it onto a thick sheet of decorative parchment. She fussed over the elegant calligraphy as she penned each word in gold leaf ; when it was completed, she rolled it up and tied it with decorative silk ribbons along with a small handful of sand to represent the desert. The demure elf had tucked it safely away in a drawer in her writing desk as a gift for Connar's return.

Elessaria found no answers to the plethora of questions that persisted; but, she held tightly onto hope and onto his homecoming present as well. "Thou dost owe me a story, Connar Valdor, if nay two! Do nay think I shall free thee so easily from thy promise to amuse me with thy tales!" she shouted to the sky, emphasizing her frustration with a closed fist and a stomp of her bare foot. If prayers and pleas did not work, she hoped a challenge might instead...

~I will remember you Will you remember me" Don't let you life pass you by Weep not for the memories

I'm so tired, but I can't sleep Standing on the edge of something much too deep It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word We are screaming inside but we can't be heard

But I will remember you Will you remember me" Don't let your life pass you by Weep not for the memories~ "I Will Remember You", Sarah McLachlan
