~I was forgotten
Until you called my name
Lost in the shadows
Until you shined your light my way
Now I believe again
In all my dreams again
I'm wide eyed and innocent
Those doubting days
Are so far away and oh
I will fall
And you will catch me always
Time has taught me this
I will fly
And you'll be there to guide me
Straight up to my heart's highest wish
I feel you close to me
And I know what love is
Now there's no mountain
Too high for me to climb
No ocean so wide
That I could not reach the other side
Now I believe in me
'Cause you live and breathe in me
And nothing can come between
We are one star
No night can darken, oh
I will fall
And you will catch me always
Time has taught me this
I will fly
And you'll be there to guide me
Straight up to my heart's highest wish
I feel you close to me
And I know what love is
It's an unspoken thing
A quiet opening
There are no words that can go that deep
But I know
I know
I will fall
And you will catch me always
Time has taught me this
I will fly
And you'll be there to guide me
Straight up to my heart's highest wish
I feel you close to me
And I know what love is~ I Know What Love Is; Celine Dion.
Luke tried and tried to listen to her about the fact that Eless knew her attacker was out and about, meaning that he could look for her, and had found her at their now shared home. He had a new security system added, something he had wanted to do since moving in, but wasn't sure it would even work against a man of a magical nature, if it was a man at all. He worked from home today, only leaving to snap a few photos for his latest case, and to pick up groceries for dinner. He wasn't happy that she had to leave for work, but he wasn't going to make her a prisoner. Even taking up books on magic, trying to understand, how, if the need arose, to take this man out if he threatened her again. He had been out in the backyard, still wanting their dream and working some more on the deck, but found himself looking out toward the woods and river often.
On her way home from the parfumerie, Eless had stopped at the Dragon to sign off on some papers and then made a quick stop downstairs in the Arena for a duel. The bladework helped to make her feel less defenseless—even if it were useless against her longtime Hunter. With Wrath sheathed in her hand, she followed the signature of Luke's aura and made her way around to the backyard. She couldn't keep from smiling while she silently watched him working for a little bit. "Hey..." her words soft so as not to startle him.
Luke turned around, and smiled when he saw her. It was true, what she said about "feeling' her. Something told him that she was home, and it wasn't the snoozing ball of fur that jumped to see her when she spoke. "Hey good lookin'." The empath crossed the short distance between them, giving Bandito a scritching along the way. Her smile nearly glowed in the moonlight. "Melamian," was all she said before she slipped her arms about him in a tight embrace. Simultaneously happy and relieved to be back home. He slid his arms around her, just as tightly. "I thought I was going to have to come lookin' for ya."
As she nuzzled against his neck, she explained quietly. "Mmm...I squeezed in a duel. It helped even though I lost." She chuckled softly.
"Lost?" He raised a brow. "Maybe I should get into the fist fightin' ones."
She nodded. "Aye, I lost, but Erik was gentlemanly about it." The elfess smiled reassuringly. "He made certain nay to injure me." She tilted her head so she could look at him, a bit surprised. "Really' Thou wouldest be interested?"
"I can fight as well as the next guy." He smirked down at her before leaning to kiss her lips softly.
She gave his lower lip a playful nip before she spoke. "I do nay doubt that 'tall, Luke."
"Everything was okay today?" Luke looked at her with some concern.
She nodded and caressed his cheek lightly. "Aye, 'twas quiet. Naught suspicious or alarming." Again her smile was reassuring.
"They installed the alarm today. So not only are we warded, but now if those windows open for any other reason, the alarms go off."
She quirked a brow quizzically, then realized he was talking about techno stuff. "Thank thee." She smiled and kissed his cheek, his concern both touched her and made her feel a bit guilty.
He smiled and nodded. "If someone breaks in, it notifies us, and the...what do you call them here, Watch?"
She nodded. "Aye, the Watch. However I do nay think they are very effective." The corners of her lips turned down. "Mayhaps 'twill change under Fio."
"Well, anything normal we can handle." He smiled and took her hand, before moving to the swing he had built for them.
Eless gave his hand a light squeeze and finally gave the changes in the yard more attention. "Oh, 'tis coming out so wonderful, Luke!" Approval shone brightly in her gaze; but, with a weary sigh, she eased onto the swing's cushions. "Didst thou stay home all day?"
"Snake called, so I went to snap pictures of the new client's business partner's luncheon."
"Snake?" She blinked, her head canted to one side.
"His name is Lester, but people call him Snake."
Her lips formed a silent 'o'. "I see. Doth he work for thee?"
"He's a snitch....he works for the coin."
"Hmmm....how dost thou know thou canst trust his information then?" "Oh I check his information before I pay him," He nodded and leaned back, making himself comfortable. "Besides, he's trying to clean up, the money I give him keeps him fed, and stuff." She smiled softly. "That is good then. It doth help both of thee." She cozied up against his side, then tucked her legs beneath her and slightly to the side on the swing, setting it to slowly rock. "Thou dost work too hard."
"Keeps me in shape, mentally, and physically."
"Well, I think thou art perfect already." Her words emphasized with a soft kiss.
Luke smiled, "Thank you, Leofa."
"'Tis true." She gave his hand another squeeze. "So is this another one of those cheating spouses cases?"
"Nope, it's a business partner of a law firm. She says he's out spending firm money on lunches and whatever, that's really not business."
"Trying to impress the ladies?" The empath wondered out loud.
"More or less, you nailed it."
She chuckled lightly. "I have lived in RhyDin for quite awhile now. Nay much doth surprise me anymore. And I have seen what doth seem to attract women in the city."
"Only," Luke sighed, "It's not just the ladies."
She arched a golden brow inquisitively. "He doth like both sexes?"
"Younger Male Companions." He continued. "She wants enough to take full control of her Firm."
Her nose crinkled with distaste.
He nodded, "Why is it that the sickos pay the best?"
"Even though much doth nay surprise me, I still do nay understand." She shrugged nearly bare shoulders. "Probably because they have the most to hide."
"I think there are more freaks here than ever haunted Mardi Gras."
Her brow creased. "What is that' A celebration like All Hallow's?"
"There are costumes," He agreed. "Celebration of all things Sin." That's the best way to describe it to a non native.
Her eyes widened with his explanation. "An entire celebration of sinfulness?"
"More or less," He nodded his head. "Drinking, Lust, Averice,....like the Seven Deadly just all go to Nawlins for the week."
"It doth sound like a Friday night in RhyDin." She grinned.
He just laughed then. "Yeah, it does."
"Didst thou enjoy it?"
"Mardi Gras?" Luke checked. "I guess I used to, before I became a cop...and dealt with people like my friends and I."
Eless chuckled softly. "Thou wert pretty rowdy then?" Mischief sparkled in her eyes as she looked up at him, cheek still resting on his shoulder.
"I was a little hellion. Rich kid, no respect for anyone." He nodded, "I've changed a lot."
Amusement was evident in her expression. "I can picture that."
"So, I was pretty much just a delinquent." he grinned.
She laughed merrily. "No wonder thou wert a good cop. Thou didst know all the tricks." She teased with a wink.
He cracked up then, "I never thought of it that way!"
"'Tis why thou dost keep me around." "What would I do without you?" He asked as he leaned over to kiss her forehead.
"Have a lot more free time." She gave a sweep of her hand to encompass all the work he had been doing in the backyard.
"I don't want it. I want what I have now....and more."
