~I was forgotten Until you called my name Lost in the shadows Until you shined your light my way Now I believe again In all my dreams again I'm wide eyed and innocent Those doubting days Are so far away and oh I will fall And you will catch me always Time has taught me this I will fly And you'll be there to guide me Straight up to my heart's highest wish I feel you close to me And I know what love is Now there's no mountain Too high for me to climb No ocean so wide That I could not reach the other side Now I believe in me 'Cause you live and breathe in me And nothing can come between We are one star No night can darken, oh I will fall And you will catch me always Time has taught me this I will fly And you'll be there to guide me Straight up to my heart's highest wish I feel you close to me And I know what love is It's an unspoken thing A quiet opening There are no words that can go that deep But I know I know I will fall And you will catch me always Time has taught me this I will fly And you'll be there to guide me Straight up to my heart's highest wish I feel you close to me And I know what love is~ I Know What Love Is; Celine Dion. Luke tried and tried to listen to her about the fact that Eless knew her attacker was out and about, meaning that he could look for her, and had found her at their now shared home. He had a new security system added, something he had wanted to do since moving in, but wasn't sure it would even work against a man of a magical nature, if it was a man at all. He worked from home today, only leaving to snap a few photos for his latest case, and to pick up groceries for dinner. He wasn't happy that she had to leave for work, but he wasn't going to make her a prisoner. Even taking up books on magic, trying to understand, how, if the need arose, to take this man out if he threatened her again. He had been out in the backyard, still wanting their dream and working some more on the deck, but found himself looking out toward the woods and river often.

On her way home from the parfumerie, Eless had stopped at the Dragon to sign off on some papers and then made a quick stop downstairs in the Arena for a duel. The bladework helped to make her feel less defenseless—even if it were useless against her longtime Hunter. With Wrath sheathed in her hand, she followed the signature of Luke's aura and made her way around to the backyard. She couldn't keep from smiling while she silently watched him working for a little bit. "Hey..." her words soft so as not to startle him.

Luke turned around, and smiled when he saw her. It was true, what she said about "feeling' her. Something told him that she was home, and it wasn't the snoozing ball of fur that jumped to see her when she spoke. "Hey good lookin'." The empath crossed the short distance between them, giving Bandito a scritching along the way. Her smile nearly glowed in the moonlight. "Melamian," was all she said before she slipped her arms about him in a tight embrace. Simultaneously happy and relieved to be back home. He slid his arms around her, just as tightly. "I thought I was going to have to come lookin' for ya."

As she nuzzled against his neck, she explained quietly. "Mmm...I squeezed in a duel. It helped even though I lost." She chuckled softly.

"Lost?" He raised a brow. "Maybe I should get into the fist fightin' ones."

She nodded. "Aye, I lost, but Erik was gentlemanly about it." The elfess smiled reassuringly. "He made certain nay to injure me." She tilted her head so she could look at him, a bit surprised. "Really' Thou wouldest be interested?"

"I can fight as well as the next guy." He smirked down at her before leaning to kiss her lips softly.

She gave his lower lip a playful nip before she spoke. "I do nay doubt that 'tall, Luke."

"Everything was okay today?" Luke looked at her with some concern.

She nodded and caressed his cheek lightly. "Aye, 'twas quiet. Naught suspicious or alarming." Again her smile was reassuring.

"They installed the alarm today. So not only are we warded, but now if those windows open for any other reason, the alarms go off."

She quirked a brow quizzically, then realized he was talking about techno stuff. "Thank thee." She smiled and kissed his cheek, his concern both touched her and made her feel a bit guilty.

He smiled and nodded. "If someone breaks in, it notifies us, and the...what do you call them here, Watch?"

She nodded. "Aye, the Watch. However I do nay think they are very effective." The corners of her lips turned down. "Mayhaps 'twill change under Fio."

"Well, anything normal we can handle." He smiled and took her hand, before moving to the swing he had built for them.

Eless gave his hand a light squeeze and finally gave the changes in the yard more attention. "Oh, 'tis coming out so wonderful, Luke!" Approval shone brightly in her gaze; but, with a weary sigh, she eased onto the swing's cushions. "Didst thou stay home all day?"

"Snake called, so I went to snap pictures of the new client's business partner's luncheon."

"Snake?" She blinked, her head canted to one side.

"His name is Lester, but people call him Snake."

Her lips formed a silent 'o'. "I see. Doth he work for thee?"

"He's a snitch....he works for the coin."

"Hmmm....how dost thou know thou canst trust his information then?" "Oh I check his information before I pay him," He nodded and leaned back, making himself comfortable. "Besides, he's trying to clean up, the money I give him keeps him fed, and stuff." She smiled softly. "That is good then. It doth help both of thee." She cozied up against his side, then tucked her legs beneath her and slightly to the side on the swing, setting it to slowly rock. "Thou dost work too hard."

"Keeps me in shape, mentally, and physically."

"Well, I think thou art perfect already." Her words emphasized with a soft kiss.

Luke smiled, "Thank you, Leofa."

"'Tis true." She gave his hand another squeeze. "So is this another one of those cheating spouses cases?"

"Nope, it's a business partner of a law firm. She says he's out spending firm money on lunches and whatever, that's really not business."

"Trying to impress the ladies?" The empath wondered out loud.

"More or less, you nailed it."

She chuckled lightly. "I have lived in RhyDin for quite awhile now. Nay much doth surprise me anymore. And I have seen what doth seem to attract women in the city."

"Only," Luke sighed, "It's not just the ladies."

She arched a golden brow inquisitively. "He doth like both sexes?"

"Younger Male Companions." He continued. "She wants enough to take full control of her Firm."

Her nose crinkled with distaste.

He nodded, "Why is it that the sickos pay the best?"

"Even though much doth nay surprise me, I still do nay understand." She shrugged nearly bare shoulders. "Probably because they have the most to hide."

"I think there are more freaks here than ever haunted Mardi Gras."

Her brow creased. "What is that' A celebration like All Hallow's?"

"There are costumes," He agreed. "Celebration of all things Sin." That's the best way to describe it to a non native.

Her eyes widened with his explanation. "An entire celebration of sinfulness?"

"More or less," He nodded his head. "Drinking, Lust, Averice,....like the Seven Deadly just all go to Nawlins for the week."

"It doth sound like a Friday night in RhyDin." She grinned.

He just laughed then. "Yeah, it does."

"Didst thou enjoy it?"

"Mardi Gras?" Luke checked. "I guess I used to, before I became a cop...and dealt with people like my friends and I."

Eless chuckled softly. "Thou wert pretty rowdy then?" Mischief sparkled in her eyes as she looked up at him, cheek still resting on his shoulder.

"I was a little hellion. Rich kid, no respect for anyone." He nodded, "I've changed a lot."

Amusement was evident in her expression. "I can picture that."

"So, I was pretty much just a delinquent." he grinned.

She laughed merrily. "No wonder thou wert a good cop. Thou didst know all the tricks." She teased with a wink.

He cracked up then, "I never thought of it that way!"

"'Tis why thou dost keep me around." "What would I do without you?" He asked as he leaned over to kiss her forehead.

"Have a lot more free time." She gave a sweep of her hand to encompass all the work he had been doing in the backyard.

"I don't want it. I want what I have now....and more."

"More?" Eless' smile remained but was perplexed. Luke just nodded with a crooked grin while her brow arched in silent question. He then assumed his best practiced, innocent look. "What art thou up to?" She chuckled, totally unconvinced by his look.

"Six feet and change?"

In response Eless groaned and nudged him lightly against his side with her elbow. He grinned and rubbed the spot he was nudged, "I am fragile!"

"I can nay leave the two of thee alone without some sort of mischief brewing." She pretended to scold both him and the dog. She gave a snort of disbelief. "And I am tall."

"For a midget, you sure are."His retort earned him a pinch and a huff which only ended up with him cracking up again.

It was a good thing he was so cute. His laughter infectious, Eless simply shook her head and let the day's tensions ebb from her petite frame. "I love thee, my Crazy Cajun."

"I love you, Eless." He smiled then. "More than you'll ever know."

"I think I have a pretty good idea." She snuck a kiss to his neck.

"Do you?" He smiled, and with a devilish look then, "What is your good idea?"

She blinked at him, then realized he was teasing. "Oh, that thou shouldest go around shirtless in jeans more often." She smiled ever so sweetly.

"For everyone, or just you?" Luke's grin spread.

"Just me." She winked. " We would nay wish to start riots. And if thou dost remember, I do nay share very well."

"Hmmm, I can do that."

She grinned. "I am a very lucky woman."

"You say that now..." He teased as he finally slid his arm around her.

"Oh, and I will continue to say it and believe it. Until my last breath."

He just smiled then. "I'll hold ya to that."

"Promise?"

Again that devilish smile slid across his lips and there was a nearly imperceptible arching of her brow as she watched him in the moonlight.

"What?"

"I am just wondering what thou art thinking." And plotting. But she didn't voice that part out loud.

"Ohh..nothing." Sing song.

She wriggled her fingers threateningly; ready to launch a tickle attack. "Nothing?"

"Nothing atall, Love."

"Tease." She accused him playfully.

"Tease" Moi?"

"Oui, toi, cher." She grinned. "Just wait...."

"Wait for what, Shugapop?"

She blinked at his new endearment, but pressed on. "''Til I tell thy mother."

"My mother what?" He eyed her then.

"I can nay tell thee. 'Tis a secret." Sage nod.

"So we are keeping secrets now?" Luke smiled and looked smug.

She chuffed. He caught her with that one. "Fine." She tried not to laugh with her threat. "I will tell her about all the mischief thou art up to."

"Oooh, that's nothing new, she's my Mom! C'mon now! Gotta be better than that!"

Eless was out of ideas, so she just waggled a finger warningly. "Thou wilt see! Just wait!"

"I have something you can tell her..."

She arched a brow skeptically. "Oh?" He nodded his head with that same smile."And just what might that be?"

He shrugged, "Search me."

"Literally?" The curiosity shone brightly in her eyes. It really was her weakness and would be her downfall. Luke's smile remained, but he didn't move. She paused and looked to the dog as if he would advise her. Of course when she looked, he was wagging that deadly tail. Bandito was no help, so she sighed and grumped at him. "Remember who doth give thee steak, dog." Unable to restrain herself any longer, she gave in to her insatiable curiosity, beginning with patting down his shirt. Not that that was a horrible chore or anything. He just grinned wider then. She tried not to laugh, but did anyway and gave him a light pinch at his trim waist while she was at it. "Hmmmm...nothing hiding in thy shirt."

Again Luke shook his head, "What's the horse say?" Grin. "Neigh."

Nimble fingers strayed to the pockets of his jeans and searched them next. She shook her head at his silliness. "I really wonder about thy sanity at times, Luke."

"Do you? And you love me!" Change, lint, usual pocket stuff was what those nimble little fingers would find.

She giggled. "Aye, I do. Both." She continued her search, only finding a bit of lint in the front pocket. Car keys were her next find and she sighed audibly.

"Going for a drive?" He teased.

"I might." She grinned impudently and added a brow waggle for good measure.

"Can't be that hard to do," He nodded. Eless couldn't get at the rear pockets since Luke was sitting, so she looked at him....defeated. "Really' You are going to give up?" He asked when he saw that defeated look. That was almost as effective as a double-dog-dare. He looked at Bandito then. "I told you so, Furface."

"Look!" She pointed over his shoulder in the general direction behind him.He glanced over his shoulder, looking for whatever it was. "Nay...nay.....Over there!" Hoping to get him to turn so she could scope out his pockets.

He turned a bit more. "What is it that I am looking for?"

"Just a bit more to thy right, cher!" She continued to point until she had access to his back pockets which she took full advantage of.

He turned all the way, then looked over his shoulder at her. "You wanted to look at my butt?"

She grinned wickedly. "Nay just look at it, cher." Her fingers were just as nimble as before and dipped into those pockets as well. She gave him a little goose for good measure.

He jumped with the goose, "Is it Christmas already?"

She laughed merrily. "Well, thou didst tell me to search thee."

He nodded again. "I did."

"Well, it doth seem that I am unsuccessful." She gave him a sly wink. "Unless thou dost count getting a good grope in."

He just laughed, and looked at the dog again. "You thought it was such a good idea." Bandito cocked his head to the side, and his tail thumped harder.

She looked from Luke to the dog and then back to him. "I am completely missing something."

He nodded and removed his arm from around her as he scooched from the swing, and knelt down to lift his jeans leg, up over the top of his boot. "You are missing something."

Eless watched him even more curious than she had been earlier. "I shall have to remember that for next time." He looked up at her, as he reached into the loose leather. "Hopefully there won't be a next time."

She chuckled. "Not even around Christmas?"

He grinned at her. "I'm out of wrapping paper." Something in his hand that he looked at, then back at her. Being as they were in tune, she'd be able to feel he was anxious and happy, and he knew that as well, so that grin remained as he held out the shiny toward her. "When we see mom, tell her that she has an elf for a daughter in law?"

She blinked. Her gaze flicking from the shiny to his face and then to Bandito and back to him. "An elf for a what?"

"Daughter in law..." He swallowed hard, "Marry me, Elessaria?"

"A daughter-in-law?" She blinked again. Frozen for a moment. Her own nerves traveled through the bond and she nodded mutely, leaning forward to wend her arms about his neck so he could hear her tremulous whisper. "Aye, I would be honoured and blessed."

Luke wrapped his arms around her tightly. "I want our forever, I love you, so much."

Eless couldn't keep the tears from forming, but they were far from because of any sadness. Instead she squeezed him harder as if she were crawling under his skin. "I love thee, melamian. For forever and a day."

Relief and another wave of happiness washed over him and he kissed her neck. "Forever and a day." Repeating her words as they said a lot of what he was thinking.

She smiled tenderly while she still trembled. The mixture of emotions flitting through the blue flames as well as radiating from her aura. "Sneaky." She teased him lightly, then peppered his face with soft, happy kisses.

"People may think we are crazy, but I don't care."

She shrugged a single shoulder. "They might, but I think most will be happy for us." Eless continued."Besides, the gossip columns have been a bit bare lately." She chuckled softly and blinked away the unshed tears. Softly, "Wouldest thou put it on me" Please?" She didn't trust herself not to drop it in the grass.

He smiled at her. "I would love to," He took her hand and kissed it first, before he took the ring and slid it onto her ring finger, checking the fit. "It's still a touch loose, but they said they can size it."

She had that typical dazed look upon her features when she saw the shiny on her finger. "I did nay think I could be any happier, Luke, and then thou dost go and surprise me....making me even happier."

He grinned at her. "You don't know how hard I had to work, hiding that from you."

"So thou wert keeping a secret, hmm?" She teased.

He nodded, "A big one. But I think it was an acceptable secret, much like Korrah."

"I guess I can forgive thee." She chuckled merrily and nodded. "Aye, like Korrah. Except I think I got the much better end of the deal."

I don't know about that..." He grinned.

"'Tis beautiful...thank thee." She chuckled and kissed the tip of his nose. "We shall just agree to disagree in this case."

"I thought it suited not only the shine of your eyes at times, but also the necklace."

She nodded her agreement. "Aye, they go very well together." She blushed. "I mean the necklace and ring."

"I am glad that you like it." He was indeed, as that smile showed.

"Perfect. Like thee." She punctuated her declaration with another kiss.

He slid back up to the seat beside her, and returned the kiss happily.

News of Elessaria's and Luke's engagement traveled fast, a white box, tied with a transparent ribbon with a scroll tucked into the bow on top, was delivered to what was to be their future home together, bearing the crest of the ConColor Pride an ember oval with a strip of emerald going top to bottom the package was plain in appearance and oddly cold to the touch, a scroll accompanied them that read.

"Congratulations on your engagement from the ConColor Pride just a little something for the two of you."

When the package was touched, by either Elessaria or Luke, it was plain no more the wrapping and ribbon simmered into soft mother of pearl the wrapping slowly intensified in brightness while the ribbon remained the same

Once opened the contents where revealed, another scroll that explained that the bottle that was nested in black velvet was sweet ember wine, from the Royal ConColor Vineyards and to either side of the bottle sat an acorn tart, (4inches high and 4across shell of nut flour pastry filled with mixed berries that are covered with a thick nearly frozen cream this is topped with a cap 2inches high and 6inches across the whole thing is then drizzled with both white and dark chocolate topped and garnished with chocolate shavings and mint leafs.) each wrapped in near transparent silk. The coldness of the package was explained by crystals arranges among the three item that kept them just above freezing.

Eless was both touched and amazed by the engagement gift. From its magical wrapping to the delicious contents, it was a definite hit. She packed it up carefully to bring it home to share with Luke. The tarts to be savored and the wine to be saved for a special occasion.

She sat at her desk in the back room and penned a note on ivory parchment:

Dear ConColor Pride:

Thank thee kindly for thy thoughtfulness. We are truly touched by it and are certain to enjoy such unique and delicious gifts. They will set a sweet tone for our journey together in life.

Again, many thanks.

With deep appreciation, ~Elessaria & Luke She rolled the parchment after the ink dried, tying it with sapphire and gold silk ribbons. When the delivery lad set out to deliver the day's orders, he would make certain to bring the thank you to Ander.
