Topic: A glimmer in the gloom

The Shimmerscale lair was full of small twisting tunnels and offshoots that were infrequently used. So it would be easy for things to get lost for ages or even eons. Such was the case for an egg. It was not even an egg of the shimmerscale clan's, but one long since lost and forgotten by a long gone former occupant upon it's discovery to be infertile. It had been discarded and forgotten, to lay in one of the neglected tunnels rarely used.

It might have remained so had not Moon been exploring the far reaches of the lair during a visit. She'd been checking to ensure all was secure when a faint glimmer in the gloom caught her eye. It was odd after so many hundreds of years the egg, which was crystalline, had not been completely covered in dirt and thus hidden completely. Moon slowly approached, not recalling ever having seen such an egg, to her own recollection, most were leathery. But this, this looked as though it had been hewed from an over sized opal shaped and polished, though it had a strange lightness indicating it was no stone as she hefted it.

This was to be brought to the others, she decided. Carefully she took it in her jaws and carried it to the main nesting chamber, waddling slowly with her own girth of pregnancy. She gently set it down amongst those gathered in the nesting chamber, silver eyes glittering. "Ah found somethin' in one o' th' deeper passages.." She tilted her head settling herself gingerly, the dim light catching on what now was as she confirmed was an egg. "Tis nae one o' icer's an ah dinnae know where it came from." She looked curiously at those gathered.

Darkmere Alcar

Darkmere happened to be visiting the lair, with a gift for the still growing hatchlings. Some meat for each one which he was handing out, when Moon returned with the egg. Getting him to turn to face her, and without a word picked it up. He then started down the hallway. "I will return shortly." As he disappeared down the hall.

Once in the room, he would set the egg on the bed and he pulled out th gem he found after killing Oz. Holding it out towards the egg as he started to murmur a few arcanic words to himself. Getting both the egg and gem to glow a mix of black and green.

The room filled with powerfull magic, and could easily be felt to those in the lair with a hint of magical ability. As a small white orb finally emerged from that gem, and floated over to the egg. Helped by the swirling black and green glow to enter it.

The glow around the gem faded, as Darkmere slipped it back into his cloak. He would hold onto it to keep it from falling into anyone's hands that would use it again. As for the egg, it continued to pulse with magic, with it becoming the new home for Shiva.

Once the deed was done, and with a touch of foresight by Darkmere. Shiva would be reborn without any memories of what Oz had done to her, or any scars the man had placed upon her. Slowly picking the egg up, as he moved to join the others again.

"I need someone here to watch over this egg untill it hatches. I will answer any and all questions after that has come to pass. Not before." Looking over those gathered as he carefully set the egg down. Those present would note that the egg now held life within it. Yet he put a spell on it to keep them from knowing who's life was in it.

The dragon's spirit had mercifully been transferred to the egg long lost and forgotten from ages ago. It would affect her body of course, but her mind, now that was another story. She would have no memories at all of her previous life, as had been ensured by Darkmere. The new life within the egg shifted subtly.

No memories of endless hours of torment and torture that had mutilated and finally ended her young life. The egg remained where it had been placed, but where the light shone through, if one looked closely enough, perhaps the translucent form of the unborn might be seen.

She had been helping her uncle fed the young ones, waiting until everyone else was settled before tending to herself. Duty it was to her family until Momma was found.

She looked up at Grammy as she brought the egg over and spoke with Uncle. She watched Uncle disappear with that egg. As she was bathing one of the hatchlings, she felt that fissure of power and shuddered.

She was curious as to what was happening, but held silent. It was best she stay out of the way and keep the hatchlings cared for.

Then her uncle returned with the egg. She peered at the egg and her uncle as he set it down.

"I need someone here to watch over this egg untill it hatches. I will answer any and all questions after that has come to pass. Not before."

She was in human form and curled herself close to the egg. One more hatchling for her to protect and care for.

Later that night, the brooding one returned to the lair with a small hatchling craddled in his arm. Yet he'd leave it here with the other hatchlings, due to Darkmere not knowing how to really raise one. So it would be better for it to be raised witht he others.

Carefully making his way to where the others were, before kneeling down o set the hatchling down. He then turned to head out without trying to wake the others that were there. Once out of the nursery where the hatchlings were, he shook his head slightly.

"Just my luck. I seem to have adopted a hatchling as a child. She'll be better off here, where Icer and the others can rasie her as a dragon should be raised." Of course he would make sure Shiva and the others were protected.

The young dragon blinked wearily as her uncle returned later that night with another hatchling. She craned her serpentine neck to regard the little one and wanted to cry.

She needed Momma now more than ever. It was getting to be too much for the young adult. She was immersed in helping her siblings and over her head.

She laid that silvery head on her coils and watched with sad eyes.

Come moring, Drake would slip into the lair. Whistling a tune just loud enough to be heard. Trying not to wake the other hatchlings, as he started to clean up the lair. You know...where the hatchlings went and all. Yeah..it so needed to be cleaned out and aired out.

If he happened to wake any of th hatchlings, he'd stop what he was doing to pick them up and rock them back to sleep. Seems he had been taught how to tend to babies by his mentor as well.

Momma had been gone so long. Daddy didn't seem like himself, keeping out of her father's way, the small gold was doing what she could to help her sisters and brothers.

Once only keeping track of her twin, she now moved through the lair, green eyes peeking around the corner. she didn't know Drake, so she would stay out of his way as well.

Occasionally she would move closer to the coiled silver, keeping quiet, though just being there, help would be offered as needed.

I can watch, spoken quietly to her sister.

There was a nuzzle and a purr to Solaria. She was truly grateful for the help.

~Thank you, sis. Keeping up with the clutch is hard.~ She sighed softly. She eyeballed Drake as he was helping clean.

The little silver looked over the sleeping hatchlings. ~Just wish Momma was home.~

Drake paused to offer the two a smile, before getting back to work. Finally cleaning that area of the lair up, before moving onto fixing food for the hatchlings for when they all woke up. As well as fixing some food for the two that were already awake.

"Here you two go." Another smile as he had gotten them some water from the lake to drink. As he moved onto the next area of the lair that needed to be cleaned.

A bit of a smile as she was nuzzled, nodding her gold head to her sister. I do not know how momma and daddy keep up.

Green eyes lowering a moment. I miss her too.

Green eyes lifted as she heard the voice."Here you two go." She looked at the food that had been prepared, and the lake water, before looking back to her sister.

I do not know that one, spoken softly to her sister, she may even have moved just a little closer as Drake passed by.

Scotty

The three whole steers arrive before the Scot does as night falls; freshly killed, they're offloaded by the butcher's assistant from the cart at the entrance of the lair before the nervous looking man who brought them scurries off again.

Scotty's not terribly far behind, though, and despite seeming quite on the subdued side, he looked ready and willing to help out the massive Shimmerscale family for the night, at least until dawn sent him home to get cleaned up and ready for work. His husband Harold also agreed to come over — and that, of course, sounded like it's going to be fun — so both Lees would be there tonight.

He stopped just outside the entrance, near to the recently butchered steers, and waited for permission to come in, for his husband, or both.

Harold Lee

Date: 2010-11-14 22:48 EST
Harold turned up not long after his beautiful Scot, bouncing a little for the prospect of babysitting.

There was a little bit of a 'buh' face for three dead steers, but you can bet it was overridden by seeing his husband.

She had been sitting near the lair's entrance again, when the sight of a cart brought blue eyes blinking. What was that?, and why' It was stopping nearby.

The little dragon watched as the cart was unloaded, fresh meat, a delivery, and behind it came not one person but two.

Looking back inside, daddy was deep within his chamber, a place she would not go, a glance to the guards, whispering something to the silver that stood just within ear's reach.

"You both may enter" the silver guard's green eyes on the pair. He moved aside to make enough room for Scotty and Harold to pass.

Scotty

Date: 2010-11-15 08:58 EST
"Aye, thanks," Scotty replied to the guard, taking Harold's hand to carefully head inside. It had been awhile since he had been here, and he had never actually been inside.

Still, Elektra needed some help, and what better way to do that than help wrangle hatchlings so she could get some rest' Well, and bring by plenty of food, just so that the family wouldn't need to be quite as concerned with hunting for the moment.

Once he was inside, he spoke up, smiling, though on the quiet side, "So, who wants dinner, snuggles an' bedtime stories?"

Drake Jones

Date: 2010-11-17 21:06 EST
Drake looked to Scotty and Harold, with a nod to the pair. "Thank you for offering to help out. Even if it is only when you two have time." Bowing his head to the pair, as he moved to show the pair around. Just incase they were asked to get something. They would know where it was at.

Scotty

Date: 2010-11-17 22:00 EST
"Nae a problem," Scotty answered, on the quiet side, with the best smile he had. Harold nodded in agreement with his own little grin, and they followed Drake on the guided tour.

Naturally, neither of them had ever been into a dragon's lair before, though they had been outside of a couple. It was only prudent to see what all there was to see.

The walls glowed lightly, lit by the soft glow of crystals embedded within as Drake had lead the pair on the tour, the little blue and yellow dragonling now not far behind.

The promise of snuggles and stories drawing her away from the mouth of the cavern, and the roar of the waterfall that served as another protective barrier.

Down the pathway to the inner chamber of the cavern, from here Scotty and Harold would see numberous tunnels, most having rooms upon each side with doors that might open or close.

She would follow them past the rock blocked chamber that housed the cold and warm pools, and another that housed the indoor pond where momma sometimes had tended to the fish.

"Snuggles would be nice." she had glanced toward her parents chamber, now silent, where her father most likely waited, she wouldn't disturb daddy.

Harold Lee

Date: 2010-11-18 00:02 EST
Harold had been busy spellbound by the sights, though he didn't jump for catching the words.

"They usually are." He stopped to smile at her, squeezing Scotty's hand as he did. He offered his free hand to her by way of offering one, followed by the same offer from the Scot. Hey, it never hurt to pause the guided tour for a minute.

Drake Jones

Drake looked over his shoulder as the pair stopped for a moment, before turning to watch the pair. As a hidden and brief smile crossed his lips to watch the scene. Seeing Moonlight open up a bit to the pair was a good sign.

"This is Moonlight." A gesture to the dragon they were meeting. "Moonlight...This is Scotty and Harold. They are friends of the family." Might as well introduce the three to each other.

Moonlight Shimmerscale

There was a pause as Harold held his hand out. "Pleasure" softly spoken. A glance back to Drake, before moving closer to the pair.

She was still wary, but still, snuggles and even hugs would be welcomed, it had been so long.

Scotty

Of course, the moment that it was all right to do so, the intrepid married duo wrapped Moonlight in for snuggles. Both of them had been loving on the various Shimmerscale hatchlings pretty much from the moment they were dropped into Rhy'Din; in fact, Icer was the first dragon they'd ever laid eyes on in dragon form.

...mostly because Darcy had been in human form and had definitely been eyecatching.

"It'll be a'right, love," Scotty said, and aye, he was sending every good wish he had for this family. "She's strong."
