::There were times when Alexander regretted some of the things that he had done, and often contemplated what the past would have been like, had he done this or that. But as he watched his children Kirya and Drake play through the halls of his palace, he couldn't help but smile, and think that it didn't really matter. Of course, he had caused pain, and taken much himself. However, he had tried to atone for his past mistakes, and that left him frowning, even as he watched his children frolic in happiness. He thought, of course, of the mother of his children, Lasherette. It seemed so very long ago, the two of them meeting, and against all odds, becoming mates. A dragon and a human, who would have thought? They had seperated, had BEEN seperated for some time. He was with Winter now, and he couldn't have been happier. He had no children from her, but she treated Drake and Kirya, as well as Aurok as if they were her own children. Alex had tried to make amends with Lasherette, at least to a certain degree. He had spoken to her one last time some months back, and offered that she should take Kirya to live with her, as that was what Kirya had wanted, and Lasherette had refused. Alex settled down upon the throne and sighed, closing that single crimson orb as he tried to relax. That was all in the past now, and not even worth thinking about. He and Lasherette were through, and he was with Winter now, so there was no hope that there would ever be reconciliation between them again. Besides, he had as of late heard that she was with another human, and he was happy for her. She deserved to be with someone after all, and he didn't want to see her unhappy. Perhaps in time she would have more children. But as far as he was concerned, with her refusal to let Kirya live with her, she would never see Drake or Kirya again, lest it was in passing. With his thoughts calmed, he sighed again and curled upon the throne, the sounds of Kirya and Drake lulling him into an uneasy slumber.::

Creeping along the ground behind him she watched her mate just sit there, pondering on something or another. He looked almost depressed. Frowning she waited for him to fall asleep before curling up with him and the children. Gently her head nuzzled under his jaw, snout resting against his neck as she gave him an affectionate purr.

She felt bad, things in her life keeping her from being around him as much she really wished to be. Then again if given the chance she'd be at his side every minute of every day.

She could not be happier though. She had her own family now and though she and Alexander didn't have their own children yet, he had the children from his previous mate that she would kill any fool for touching. This was her family. Her brood. Her life.

"I love you, Alexander."

::He felt the weight of his mate settle next to him, and he gave a happy and content sigh, draping his wing over her and pulling her closer to him, nuzzling into her neck affectionately. She was just the comfort that he needed now, the one that he needed to help him forget about his past and move on, to look to the future, and not what could have been.::

"I love you, my dearest Winter. It is good to have you back home."
