~Void~

Darkness.

All had become darkness, a never-ending void in which it floated, suspended, free from everything.

Free from pain.

Free from doubt.

Free from everything.

How had it gotten here"

It doesn't matter. Nothing really matters.

~Shimmerscale Lair~

The flickering of light in the air near the ceiling of the Shimmerscale Lair would be the first indication that this was not going to be a normal day.

The flash of light that explodes into being as the vortex of the Nexus opens, deposits something from its maw, and closes once more with a sound like a thunderclap.

What falls from that vortex is a geode, dark in color, crystalline sparkles of light bouncing from its faceted surface as it hits the floor of the lair hard enough to send a shard of it spinning across the cavernous room.

The crack of the crystal hitting the floor is shortly joined by many other, softer sounds of fragmenting crystal as several other cracks begin to show along the surface of the stone all at once, spreading in crazy spiderweb patterns.

Momma had been napping. Ice blue eyes snapped open and ears flattened at the sound of thunder, within the lair.

Blink, attention now turned to the geode that lay upon the floor nearby.

Slowly she rose, moving toward the crystal strewn rock, the tip of her snout coming within inches.

Settling around the shiny crystal rock, she curled around it, head canting, watching now as the web like cracks spread throughout.

Strange indeed, but something told the dragon to stay.

~Void~

Something different, now. Yes, something definitely different.

What's the difference" This darkness is everlasting, could have been floating here forever in this darkness.

But now, for the first time, something different.

The sound of something cracking.

What is a crack"

And now, there, interestingly, a beam of light.

What is light?

The question is pondered as even more shafts of light begin penetrating the darkness. Not even conscious of what it is doing, it reaches outward, trying to touch the light...

~Shimmerscale Lair~

The cracks in the crystal begins spreading with alarming rapidity, and it is only moments before they have covered the surface of the crystal in such profusion that it seems if someone should touch it even with the lightest whisper of a caress, it might disintegrate into dust.

For a moment, nothing happens.

And then the light begins seeping out of the cracks of the crystal, brilliant multicolored light that grows brighter by the moment, although curiously it is not giving off any heat.

A flicker of darkness passing over the light, and a final, brilliantly flaring flash that seems to consume the crystal. There is another crack as the Nexus opens once more, sucking the crystal and the light into it as it closes.

Another moment later, it opens again, dropping a young, unconscious male human, mercifully clothed by the Nexus in clothes of a deep navy blue that almost seem to be like pajamas of a sort.

He lands right where the crystal had been only moments before, out cold but very much alive.

She had continued watching the cracks spreading across the rock, arching an eyeridge ever slightly at the light that seemed to be coming from within.

Until the rock was swept up once more by the Nexus. This definately was turning into one odd day.

Starting to move again, she had just sat up, when the young male was deposited upon the lair's floor.

Another blink, gaze moving to the ceiling, then back to the uncontious child.

She couldn't very well leave him on the floor.

Carefully, as if he were her own hatchling, she slid a forelg beneath the boy, picking him up and carrying him to one of the empty rooms.

It wasn't much, a bed and a trunk took up space, along with the usual glowing crystals within the wall. They lit the way as the dragoness carried the child over.

Tucking the boy into the once empty bed. A smile given, as she settled on the floor by the bedside, taking up watch over the uncontious one.

~Void~

Warmth.

A sense of self, no longer in darkness but instead a soft, soothing place of feeling, of sensation, where before all there had been was nothing.

Terrifying in that nothingness.

And now a sensation of movement, of a tender touch, of something soft beneath.

Light again, not harsh and bright as it was before but soft, rosy in color.

Moving now, moving into the light, trying to find a way out...

~Shimmerscale Lair~

He opens his eyes, finally, after a long period of motionless slumber.

For a long moment, he remains that way, eyes open and staring at the ceiling above, not moving.

There is nothing familiar about this place, and as he searches his memory, he finds that he does not remember how he got here.

In fact, it now occurs to him, he does not remember anything before opening his eyes except darkness.

And endless black void in which he had been trapped, helpless, unable to see or hear or taste or touch or smell.

It is a longer moment before he looks around, turning his head.

The first thing he lays eyes on is a rather large, reptilian shape, scales a light blue in color with matching eyes.

A dragon.

The word comes unbidden to his thoughts. He knows what a dragon is, and knows that what he is seeing is indeed a dragon. And he also knows that this one has been watching over him, and that he doesn't need to fear her.

How he knows these things, or even knows that this dragon is female, is beyond him. But he does know it.

Strange.

"Who...who am I?"

He doesn't know why he's asking, and certainly doesn't expect an answer - in fact the tone with which he asks is soft, as if he's asking himself rather than anyone else.

A smile given as the boy opened his eyes, no fangs shown. Still she lay on the floor by his bedside, guarding the young one, and naturally being motherly.

Hello there, speaking softly herself, doing her best not to startle the youth, nostrils quivering a moment. Picking up the faint scent of dragon, kin. I'm nae sure who you are, or where you came from.

But you are welcome here. Perhaps you should rest, then we can show you around the lair.

Starlight moved quietly through the halls of the lair, looking for either Mama, or Athena....Or any other sibling she could bug. Someone was extremely bored. She continued on down the hall way, untill she noticed one of the doors ajar. Curiously, she peered through the small crack of space with icy blue hues, and blinked. She saw mama....and another. A boy, probably around her age.

"Mama" Who's he"''

Was asked softly, before she pushed the door open, and stepped into the room quietly. Then she shut the foor behind her, and stepped closer to the bed. More than likely to get a closer look at the new one. Once closer she leaned foward, and studied him quietly, thoughtfully.

''Hi.''

Was said softly to him.

He hears the words, understands them, their soft tone. Kindness he can feel, and...so much else that he can't seem to make sense of.

Strange.

For a long moment he merely sits where he is, trying to understand. He can tell, somehow, that they are underground, knows nearly every detail of his surroundings. He knows that there is water somewhere nearby, rock beneath them - strong bones of the earth - and somewhere above, soft dirt, growing things. Fresh air let in from somewhere. As his eyes fix on the light blue dragon, he can - somehow, though he knows beyond doubt that he doesn't know anything about her - that were she of a mind she could freeze the very air around them.

He closes his eyes tightly, shaking his head. Too much input, too fast. It's as if the very world is speaking to him, and his hands come up to his ears, trying to find a place in his own head that is peaceful, quiet...

"Mama" Who's he?"

Was asked softly, before she pushed the door open, and stepped into the room quietly. Then she shut the foor behind her, and stepped closer to the bed. More than likely to get a closer look at the new one. Once closer she leaned foward, and studied him quietly, thoughtfully.

''Hi.''

The soft, young voice of a girl manages to distract him from the odd sensations rushing through his mind, and he remembers the dragon nearby as well, remembering her saying he should rest. Suddenly, though, he does not feel anything like resting. In fact, he feels completely energized.

He addresses the dragon first, bowing his head respectfully. "I...thank you, m'lady dragon, both for your kindness and the place to stay. But...well, I don't really feel like I need to rest."

He turns to the girl, relieved to see that he is not the only human about. A smile is offered, tentative and shy. "Hi...umm...I don't think she can tell you who I am...I don't even know my own name."

At that moment, he realizes that the girl had called the dragon 'Mama.' Confusion returns to his face, looking back and forth between them. Looking at the dragon, then, he speaks, confused. "She's...your daughter...?"

Ice blue eyes fell upon her daughter for a moment, before returning to the boy. Remaining settled upon the floor she tilted her head, watching as he covered his ears, and closed his eyes.

When he opened them again, she smiled, still showing no fangs. Please, you can call me Icer, and if you need anything, just ask my mate Aurthur or I.

The confusion noted as he looked between Star, and herself. Yes, this is Star, she is one of our daughters. A soft chuckle then. She often times prefers a more human form, to that of her true self.

For a long moment he looks back and forth between the two, apparently more confused than ever. Despite the fact that it would be apparent to the two of them that the young man is, in fact, of similar kind to them, he is himself unaware of the fact.

It is a long moment before he speaks again.

"She's...a dragon too?"

He shakes his head, confused and yet amazed as well.

"I...I was not aware that dragons could take a human form."

As she introduces herself, he smiles, ducking his head, again shyly.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Icer. I...I wish I had a name to give to you as introduction of myself, but I...I am not sure I have one..."

Azzure-Starlight

"Yep. I'm Starlight....Or Star for Short."

There was a quiet pause of thought from her, before she made a face at mother and continued to speak.

''I Enjoy either form. I Just....tend to feel comfortable in this one....Plus I can fit in smaller spaces."

The last words were said inh a teasing tone, and smile was flashed to the both of them. Then quietly, she let herself study him quietly, her gaze intent and curious.

"If you don't have a name...Couldn't you always find one?''

Aurthur Shimmerscale

Date: 2010-03-10 08:01 EST
Now now, a name is not something that is simply found, daughter. A name holds great importance, you know. *Aurthur appeared from fairly much nowhere, he had been passing by in the hall when he had heard his mate and snuck in undetected.* "When I was a hatchling, I didn't have a name either. I had to look inside of myself and find my own name through much soul searching. *Looking at the boy as he settled down next to his mate and gave her a tender nuzzle of affection.* Perhaps you must do the same.
