It had been weeks since the little red wanderer had escaped again from her family's lair.
Following a small, fleet footed hare, she'd lost her way. The snow only adding to her problems.
Cold!, shivering, she had spied a cavern, one which had proven warmer then the outside, and abandoned.
Surely her family would come when they realized she was missing. Days came and went as the hatchling hunted the depths of the cavern, surviving off of small rodents, and the occasional bug.
Neither was very appetizing, but they kept her hunger away, if only for a short time. Water was lapped from a small puddle that formed when a trickle of melting snow found it's way inside.
Days came and went, turning to weeks. Each day, she'd creep toward the entrance of the cavern and peek out, each day was the same.
The hatchling's view was greeted by the cold, white snow, sometimes it danced and swirled around outside. Other days, it just lay there, but it remained.
Maybe she should have stayed closer to her family's lair. Every day, she'd wait, just inside, for any sign of her daddy.
